Hi,
I read on a blog that somebody was able to use a 128gb formatted to FAT32 with his Streak (I cannot post the URL). I've tried the same, but have got the message that the sd card is damaged. Any ideas where I am going wrong?
Thanks.
The Dell Streak 7 only supports up to 32GB cards. Period.
Hopefully I can post this link:

Did you not read what I read?

why not just have 4 32gb cards, they're hot swappable, I doubt you'd fill them all with apps (dont challenge it as you will only make yourself look like an arse for downloading that many apps and never using them) and probably use them only for videos, in which case just put the ripped movie or series on an SDC and enjoy that, honestly its hot swappable for a reason.

if you did manage to negate the kernel support for NAND sizes on the SDC less than 32gb only, I doubt you'd have much stability.. also you spelt sweet wrong
For the doubting Thomas's - especially Nocturnal_50. I guess I'll be accused of photoshopping this....
I think we owe the guy an apology. Read around the internet and it does work.

I think that Noobies are treated a bit too harshly at times and I'm glad to see one strike back! ConGrats on that one.
I blame misinformation from Dell. Windows only supports formatting partitions up to 32gb with FAT32 (however you need a 3rd party tool to partition beyond windows limits, but hey thats why Gparted was made), stupid Dell representatives giving us useless information, the representatives should know all the information about the products hardware support instead of just giving us a standard "we didnt get it to work with sizes larger than 32gb so it must be NAND handling restriction"
The biggest difference is that android currently doesnt support exFAT (though it would be nice as fat32 has many limitations)
According to wikipedia though, SDXC is electrically and protocall-ly backwards compatable. BUT you lose some of the benefits of the new capability bits (such as the higher speed interfaces)
Also apparently the S7's roms support it at the software level. This was the part that was tested.
The fat32 format limitation is completely artificial as older versions of windows will allow formatting up to like 127+ GB, they did it because (at least on standard HDDS) it's a really bad fs to use. It's terribly inefficient as you have to use 4k blocks.
It's usually easier to say "it's not supported" then it is to say "we havnt tested it, we dont know if it's compatable" for support and liability reasons.
Doesnt benefit us as the customer though, but it's a fact of life.
Thanks giveen. Have to admit - the amount and rate of apologies is deafening

Thanks wptski - being a noobie - completely agree. I joined the forum to a) get help then b) hopefully give help. To be sniped at in a completely different post about this issue makes me feel that I am not getting a) and unlikely to give b)
As I received no apologies from the sniping from what I considered were experienced members (Nocturnal_50 especially, ElfinJNoty & Archer), and no help apart from pointing me to posts I had already read and didn't answer my queries - I'm leaving. After less than 2 weeks, that's a damning inditement of the way that some people answer and reply to questions. If those people continue in this manner, the forum will simply die.
I thought the point of forums was to help others - not to assasinate them at the earliest point - and give condescending answers.
There was some work involved in getting the 128gb drive to work (if you remember originally I asked how to make it work). The SSD type, how I made it work, will remain my IP.
Remember, if you want others to help, you need to help others.

I posted links to a free Diamond unlocker on here last week and subsequently recieved a 7 day ban.
The ban stated the reason was "posting other peoples work".
I didnt know if the software was working, fake, safe or easy to use as my device is already unlocked but in the nature of xdadev forums i posted it in case it was of use to anybody.
I most definately didnt claim the software as my own nor did i try to profit from the work of others.
I guess it upset somebody as like i said i recieved a weeks ban for my efforts which i think was kinda harsh considering.
Wouldve have been a bit more civil to have just removed the post, links and PMed asking/demanding that i dont post the software here or anywhere else and i would have happily complied.
**** i still dont know who banned me and for what reason exactly but i aint complaining about a poxy 7 day ban that was easily bypassed by logging in as a guest to browse the forums, just wouldve been nice to been asked a question before being shot.
Just for the record
If your post was legitimate (which I don't know if it was), surely somebody was jealous and wanted his own work promoted.
Wouldn't surprise me if he even wants money for it.
It's cuz the devs are charging money for unlocking the devices. They say it will be free later, so I guess until then nobody else can start giving out codes for free.
There's a couple of posts about it in the ROM Dev thread

Yea thats what happened as far as I can see.
The software I aquired is being sold by the dev/devs which is fair enough if they feel its worth the asking price and theres a market then **** it
let them eat cake.
My reason for this post was just that I didnt care for the way the matter was dealt with by banning me with out so much as a valid reason or reply to my attempts to contact them over the last week.
I also posted to state the fact that i didnt claim the software to be mine or attempt to gain financial or kudos rewards for the post.
If like I stated I had been approached with the facts rather than just getting banned I would have happily removed the link and file from my hosting and even blagged that the software I had was a fake if that would have appeased the powers that be and kept the coin rolling in for the dev/devs.
The fact is the unlock solution is now in the wild and its probably pissed on theyre chips.
Also im now getting unsolicited PMs asking for the software and I aint the ignorant type.
I can understand people being pissed off as i was unintentionaly offering for free what they was selling but i just think the matter could have been dealt with differently.

I think that the software author in general has the right to ask for a remuneration for his hard work, if he feels like it.
I know exactly the feeling.
But what bothers me, is exactly what you've described: the WAY it's been delt with.

I also agree with you regarding the unlocker is out in the wild. It’s available on bit torrent and various online forums mostly in foreign languages...
I do like the idea that they have come up with which is to give it out for free to people who support this site and charge the ones that don’t as its most likely these people who will go on to profit out of the software by selling it on as a service.
hint hint:
well, one of the names it goes by is libera_diamond.

can someone supply better instructions, for this unlocker....
Works on Vista Ultimate Perfectly!
The unlocker works on vista. I should know. It worked perfectly on my phone.
The last step's hit and miss. For some reason (i'm guessing the dev had a twisted sense of humor), the app'll close instantly unless you try and freeze it open. The best way to do this is launch diamunlock.exe and press the UP button on your phone REPEATEDLY. After about 5-10 tries, the program will stay open and you can take your time.
I do admire what the dev was doing by selling this but TBH from what i've seen about XDA-Dev, software is given away and donations are asked for later. This new approach of charge first and that's it, while expected, doesn't seem to fit with the ethos of xda-dev and as such, i don't feel like i should promote it by paying for the software.
Now if it had been donationware? Hell yeah you best believe i'd have sent 10-20 bucks the dev's way.
Hy,
With this solution I've unlocked severall phones, and since I believe that knollege should be payed, I've given already 2 donations to this forum in general... of course I refuse to pay to anyone in specific if the solution is out for free!...
And I think everyone should recognise this forum's usefullness with some sort of donation, either knollege or money.

Well, this thread surely doesnt serve any purpose other than simply gossiping (in a polite language) about someone else's work around here. So thread closed and I dont think its wrong. Will be moved to trash soon, just wanting the OP to take his time and read this post. PM a MOD if you feel otherwise
What happened to the honeybunches thread? What was the reason it was deleted??
OP requested that his thread be deleted.
Huh okay, thanks.
Was a reason given? Is he working on a newer version? I donated money and although I understand that a donation is giving someone money without precondition, an explanation would be the polite thing to do.

You donated money to someone for a small tweak on the Honeycomb SDK port that deeper-blue had created... Your loss.
Not really, I appreciated his work. And since I cannot contribute to the community with expertise, I choose to do so with money since I am generally a fan of the work put out by others on this board. Trust me, if blue had a donate link I would be one of the first to kick in some cash. But he hasn't and despite being a "minor tweak" the build was still quite good.
I DENIED ALL DONATIONS... NO MONEY WAS TAKEN. I didnt want any legal issues with google. I saw in deepers q&a about the market.

Not a problem, I apologize if I stepped on your privacy.
He deleted his post because it was becoming quite apparent that he was blatantly copying someone else's work. Taking a "picture" (diskimage) of a working version of someone else's work with a couple of apks added to it does not make it "your custom rom". He had no business giving advice on technicalities of Honeycomb that he had no understanding of, and it's no wonder that Blue wouldn't give this kid the time of day and "work together" on future builds...I'm really surprised no one called him on it earlier than now...
I do believe the reason for the OP deleting was merely the fact that you aren't meant to include GApps (Market, Gmail, Maps etc..) inside ROMS or devices that aren't licensed by Google. That's why you don't see cheap Android tablets with the Android Market on - Google hasn't licensed them too. Same applies to ROMS.
Actually Marcusant wasn't just adding "a few apks." He tweaked DB's release to make an image that would fit a 2gb card for those that didn't have access to bigger cards.
Yep--makes it even shadier-- Here is his math, in base form:
(Deep Blue's build) + (Google's Gapps) + (LauncherPro) = ("MY CUSTOM ROM" WOOT?)
It was wrong on every level.
Zeroing out space and using a partition tool still leaves you with someone elses exact work underneath. Not an excuse. Fine (IMO) to post as a image of DB's build, but NOT as 'my custom rom'. Anyone else agree?

Do you think that Google would sue the guy over a rom on his nook color he was using for personal use? I don't. I could see it if he was selling the rom or selling nooks he rooted and put the market on. If Google were going to sue it probably would have started a long time ago with all of the devices that have been rooted and the market was put on. Or it would have started when the nc was first rooted and the market was put on it.
Why would they sue? As long as people are using it like they should then google is just MAKING MORE MONEY by us having the market on another device to buy apps with.
Marcusant did google ask you to take your thread down?
Just to clarify, deeper-blue was fine with my work...

By your assessment, Deep Blue is just copying someone else's work too (i.e. Google). I thought the point of this forum is for people to find ways of making our devices work better, or making it easier to make our devices work better?
The only real issue, that I can see here, is that he included the Market. He also made several tweaks (tweaks Deep Blue did not make), including raising the DPI and making it fit on a 2GB card.
This is not supposed to be a site about egos or who's copying who. He gave credit to Deep Blue and this is all that is necessary. He never claimed to have created the whole thing himself.

Really???? Maybe you should rethink that statement. There is no record whatsoever of deeperblue ever responding to one of your posts, or questions needing help from him on Xda. Having to communicate with someone that is 'fine with your work' by posting "DEEPER BLUE PLEEEASE READ" messages in their thread should be all the evidence you need. You might want to actually talk to him before making these claims.

Ok from the recent accumulation of information, lots of confusion, and lots of false info, i have seen on here finally has made me to decide to post here again in order to help clean up all of the rumors and such and give an update on the status of unlocking the device...
1. Bootloaders- are locked and as of now will be for the forseable future bearing we don't get some of the info we need one being the proper sbk. there are other methods we have been working on but i guess the easy way of putting it is we have gotten to all the final doors and have all the tools , how ever the locks on these final doors are at this point still un-pickable. My current suggestion for anyone wanting to help, unless you are a good crypto guy , in which case by all means message me, for the rest of you our best bet is a hot chic a tight dress and a even better B - to some one that has access of some of the stuff we need if you cant offer any of these things than just be patient so that next time i dont have to write this and once again we wont have to publish what we are doing for everyone to read and defend against, before we are ready too!! Remember they don't document online how the built the lock , so we should not publish how we want to dismantle it until it is done!!
2. Nvflash - Yes it exists on our devices, yes it can be accessed , yes you need a Dev. cable to do so. Yes using it theoretically we could re flash our devices with unsecured images , yes with it I could make our devices free , How ever this all being said there is a problem currently, and that is that its is signed with a sbk value, this value is unknown to us it is a AES key and is in this format 0x00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000. With out knowing the value of this key anything anyone wants to tell you about nvflash is complete and entire BS!! You can not even read from the device, any command that is sent via nvflash will return an error and than disable the connection to the device in order to prevent a brute force attack. Find us this key by sleeping with the enemy i will give you an unlocked device by tomorrow
3. Dev Cable- Yes they exist, yes you can make your own, You need to send 5v to pin 4 also known as the id pin, the battery must be removed from the device when using this cable, you will plug it into your phone hold the vol - button and goto nvflash mode than your computer can see it as well as nvflash. Is there any need for you to have this cable ? As of now probably not, as there is not much you can do with this cable unless you have a dead or damaged battery and need to reflash a sbf to fix your phone so that you can than charge your battery again. And yes TBH is offering to sell you one of these cables for $50, if that seems to be a fair price to you and do not wish to make your own and do have a use for a cable that as of now is not helping a retail atrix to much than by all means order one from there web page.
Anyhow despite our lack of posting here on XDA there are a few of us that still dedicate our time everyday to this ... We are not constantly updating people here because A) Anything less than a guide on how to unlock your device is a disappointment, B) We do not think that making our info publicly available would be beneficial to anyone, and increases the likely hood of a patch or block attempt. C) Its not a oh were almost there type of operation, there is no clear cut path. Anyhow i Hope this helps clear up info and stops foolish attempts and ridiculous comments lies and posts like i have seen the past week, keep faith and enjoy your device as is its a great devices just severely crippled thanks to AT&T thats right AT&T so if your board write to them, call them, sign the patition, file a complaint to FTC blog about it and from now on only buy devices listed like here, http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/root_friendly
Have a Great DAY!!
This wake up call is very much appreciated! Thank you, sir!!

i'm 10 years older and i speak however the situation requires. not everyone has to be polite and cordial 100% of the time; in fact the internet is probably the least likely place you will find that. if there's a problem, tell the mods or report the thread. citizen's policing will often just lead to backlash.
anyway, i suggest we sticky this thread to the top of the forum.
Developers rarely speak curiously our sometimes even understandably. So asking devs to speak in your preferred style will likely lead to devs ignoring you or walking away. They're very fickle that way.

Hm.. I'm very new to all this Android stuff so I have no idea what all of that means. If you could give me more input on how to do that and where I could find all of that, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks for answering though guys
Allow me to be very frank and honest... the fact that you ask for the information to be spoon fed to you allows us all to assume you haven't done near enough reading, the LAST thing you should be doing is rooting. The act of looking for the information will acclimate you to the things you should know. There are several threads on modifying the Streak 7 and what to do should you run into a wall. Until you read AND UNDERSTAND ALL OF THOSE THREADS you should flash ANYTHING to your device, please heed the warning, if not you'll be one of the hundreds getting flamed because you refused to educate yourself before tinkering with your device.
Yes, I at one time was a noob, and each time you buy a different device you are somewhat of a noob. I just purchased a Galaxy S2 and a Note to replace my Streak, I spent 2 weeks reading articles, skimming through ROM threads and devouring hundreds of pages before I flashed anything so I wouldn't have any trouble...
I for one did lots of reading but could not find all the answers, so I posted in the General Section. Well, over 500 views and not one reply. Nobody has done a Nandroid backup/restore???

A needle in a big haystack! I can understand not wanting to explain with every move but all my question required a Y/N answer. Does that fit your repeated "spoon feed" answer?
As one posted, we are expected to read hundreds of posts to find one post where our question is answered. Is that just because that's the everyone is treated, so your expected to pass it along?
To answer your question would be a big fat YES! YOU ARE expected to read through those hundreds of posts that noobs such as yourself create because the answers to all your questions are in just a couple of threads posted by the more experienced. I read through those hundreds of threads to know what I know so what exempts the rest of you from the same adherence to the forum rules?

I read through those hundreds of threads to know what I know so what exempts the rest of you from the same adherence to the forum rules?

Well Mr. more experienced, so far not one of the more experienced hasn't answered with a simple Y/N. Must be too difficult to press a few keys, I guess or it's the "I had to learn the hard, so they'll have to also" mentality? You are one bitter person!

CDZO72 is completely correct in that you SHOULD read hundreds of posts, not nessecerilly hundreds of pages.
How much is 100 posts? by default 1 page is 10 posts, so it's 10 pages of a thread. Usually you only need the OP and mabye the last 5 posts in a thread.
Then add in you should read half a dozen or so stickies. 50 posts of the RIGHT posts or so and you already can get an idea of what's good/bad, right/wrong. You can easily read several hundred in a sitting as skimming counts as reading for unimportant posts.
Who's fault is it when someone bricks their device because they didnt read everything? I'm pretty much the go-to guy for generating documentation and I rarely ever get any real suggestions to change/improve stuff.
All my stuff is medium-difficulty instructions as I refuse to hand-hold people though as most of my stuff is stuff that WILL BRICK you if done incorrectly. Many other guides tend to be easily broken, due to changes in stuff as hand holding is highly specific, generalized ones arnt easily broken, especially the ones I make.
The phrasing and tone that cdzo I dont agree with though, but until a certian threshold it's none of my concern. It's strongly worded but not rude yet. And he's completely right about the points, if you mess with a device and dont read everything, what is the next post you make? "HALP MY THNG DUN WORK"
I am assuming OP is new to android as a whole and now he's been pointed in the right direction to learn more.
OP hasnt implied he's refusing to read stuff, he merely implies that he has no idea what he should be reading. he SHOULD have read the stickies as they do cover most topics, he could have possibly read it and not understood it.
I always assume that the vast majority of users simply read the stuff and never post as they dont need to/have no issues with it. Often time the posters are the ones that dont understand/refuse to read for various reasons (and some of them could be legit reasons such as language barriers)
tl;dr: the vast majority of posts are issues that can be solved by thourghly reading the stickies, if they arnt they should tell me and we'll figure something out
Thanks to TheManii and explanation of my behavior
Thank you TheManii for backing me up to an extent, and I will be the first to apologize for my somewhat harsh answers at times but the points I want to make are the following:
1) If you don't have the time to do what TheManii just suggested then NO, no one should mod their device without feeling they can reverse what has been done
2) I have several devices.. my Streak 5, the Streak 7, Transformer Prime, SGS2 I9100 and an iPad 2... and lemme tell ya, comparitively speaking, these Streak forums are sleepy compared to the stupidity you see in some of those... especially the SGS2 forum, there are at least 100 NEW threads daily and 99% of them are JUNK, and 99% of the posts in existing threads are JUNK, so you can imagine how frustrating it is for someone such as myself when I acquire a new device and then have to weed through ALL THAT to find my answers, because I almost refuse to start a new thread because I doubt that anything I come across some developer has not already addressed, I just have to find it
3) so let me apologize to whoever may be offended by my sarcasm and rants, but if just a few people are motivated to alter their forum behavior by it, well I am more than willing to bear the burden of being lashed out at by the noobies that resent my responses
4) once again thank you TheManii for your support (I gave you a thanks for your post , once again you have proven you are TheManii
I dont believe you're doing it to be malicious, sometimes you dont really realize it until someone points it out.
Forums are always baised towards having users that are having trouble, as it's just as unproductive to make a post that says you got and understood everything. (unless it's some sort of thank you thread)
Actively saying you dont want to read is grounds for getting tarred and feathered by the mods (as in heavily chastized but nothing serious unless it's repeat offenses), I am not a mod though and fortunately dell devices dont get millions of posts an hour.
Just to repeat though, I always assume good faith in the OP, and he hasnt stated anything towards that yet.
hello friends, I saw the post and read because I thought it would help me to be root, I thought to find some link, I believe, and if they let me say that with a single link would suffice, or just see and pass by, I also have revealed with my htc and what would happen if they become damaged, and finally because of who will? for me is a language barrier, and read only the interesting threads but do not know much, a greeting
Enviado desde mi Dell Streak 7 usando Tapatalk
I've read 100's of pages of posts after reading some of "cdzo72's"" rude rants to noobies. I believe sombody else mentioned why does "cdzo72" even reply to a thread but only to rant?
TheManii, I really like the one where you told somebody, "Well, I'll toss you a bone". Really??
Then there's a response from "giveen" where I questioned his video(s). His answer was a link to Google! I know you guys are developers and you guys make this Dell S7 section for the most part. I shouldn't be agitating you guys but neither of you are going to win a Mr. Congeniality Awards.
Do you guys have children? If they ask you a question, do you give them the same kind of response that "some" noobies get here? Gosh, I hope not!
I'm a moderator in another forum and you would have heard from me long time ago because this rudeness just isn't allowed, no matter who you are or even what you bring to the plate.
In reference to my replyless thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516530, I don't really see how a simple yes/no would have killed you?
I am not a dev, but I CAN speak for some the old devs that left the S5 area, they stopped replying/deving because they kept getting inundated with stupid questions.
When every time you get bombarded with questions that were clearly answered somewhere else it tells you it's simply easier to not release something publicly. I personally know one dev that stopped making releases because he kept getting asked stupid questions.
I'm hesitatnt to release anything if I'm not willing to fully support it, hence why the great majority of my roms are never released/only released to a small group.
Anyone who's on xda is by definition not a child (even this isnt the case, I would be surprised if there wernt devs on xda under 15, but I expect that many of them learned entirely on their own at that age), there's a point where you should be able to learn on your own without assistance.
The State Of Our Site – Not An Official Statement But A Perspective this sums it up to a degree. I could have sworn there was an official announcement that xda was for devs and users were simply along for the ride, not the other way around. I cant find it, I may be mistaken though as that link isnt a binding statement.
Just as much I've seen forums that outright instant-ban you for a couple days for even the simplest dumb question. With the size of it I dont really blame them. Keep in mind some like somethingawful requires PAYING to register and the users know beforehand that being probated is really easy for making bad/dumb posts. Yet they still register and pay to do so.
I noticed that the 6.2 inch S21 has it's own dedicated forum with the typical group of threads that XDA always offers - Questions, News, Development/Roms, Accessories. However, I have not been able to find a dedicated forum for the S21 Ultra? There is only this thread - which only allows us to combine our comments/requests/news or whatever into a single thread - which obviously does not offer any kind of organization of similar threads like XDA usually does.
Am I missing something ? Is there a forum like the S21 Forum for the S21 Ultra? If so - Link please? If there isn't one, why not? Why would the basic S21 get it's own group of 4 threads while the S21 Ultra only gets one? in case I am not making myself clear, here is a link to the S21 Thread - S21 Dedicated Threads let me know if you know of something similar for the S21 Ultra.
I couldnt find one too
It is definately needed. This is very messy

Agreed.
Be careful what you wish for. When the S20 first came out, the S20U had its own dedicated forum with sub-groups for reviews, etc. Then they decided to merge EVERYTHING, and a lot of the S21U specific posts from the previous month or two were just wiped away. Personally, I would think there should be one S21 main forum, with sub-groups that are either distinct or separate, as appropriate (e.g. apps could be combined for all S21, but real life reviews should be separate for each). I don't know why they can't get this right.
I, too, would like this.

This could work as well, but anything is better than that.

Greeting guys. While I know that the new forum layout isn't what we're all used to, this is XDA going forward since the migration to the new platform. This new "Prefix" based system should help with speed, indexing and searching once a few of the kinks are worked out. I know we are all creatures of habit, but as the saying goes, "The only constant in life is change."
I hope you will all be patient and understanding going forward, and will grow to like the new platform as time marches on, and we appreciate members such as yourselves being the backbone of what makes XDA a great place to learn, share, and do what we love doing to our devices. Even if that means creating a very expensive paperweight from time to time.
Best regards to all: Badger50

Thank you for your response.
It's good to see XDA progressing in that matter.
As a small feedback, please consider putting the filters as buttons on top of the list (of the threads), in order to select or de-select one or more categories. Should be much more user-friendly

Thanks for the follow up and detailed explanation. It all makes sense - and I hope XDA will remain open to listening to it's members for the occasional adjustment - if it is deemed appropriate.
One quick thought - assuming a group of phones like S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra, would we have a main thread that combines all the phones together - much like the S20 Note has done - then threads like this thread for the Ultra might be inside that "mother thread" ? Just a thought. In the meantime, I love XDA and will be around for a long time - "if the lord is wiling and the creek don't rise"..... Thanks again....

I just couldn't resist. Thanks for the tip my friend.

i like it this way, much easier to view new posts
instead of clicking multi sub group to find new posts.
Ive been trying to get used to the format but i dont like having all the topics in one thread.
I prefer to have the sub forums of old so i can read what i want to read in that specific forum and not have to sift through a bunch of stuff i dont care about .
Ive been spending much less time here because of this, its thats frustrating. Hopefully enough people will raise this same thing and things will change!
So many posts that are intermingled together that initially rely on the correct prefix to be relevant are causing me issues, I'll try to get used to it, but I don't see benefits .
I also thought that buying bitcoin at 3 dollars was stupid, just saying...
I mean how would prefix this, which I think is true BTW.?
Samsung money card won't run initial activation on Samsung pay unless you have chrome installed .
Samsung browser will not work, I've tried it and thought it was a bad firmware install but it isn't.
Does any body else have this issue?

That's a question... You're just prefacing it with some info.

I agree with that. And I want to add to it:
Once you filter a category (say with the proposed button which is a very good solution) and you want to MARK it READ, this action should solely mark read this category only, not the entire forum!
edit: I'll post it here too.
