Ghost touchscreen Problem - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I'm using Motorola A853 I had this weird problem of ghost touch problem ( Touchscreen responding to ghost touch literally touchscreen goes crazy ).
1.I wanted to If this is caused by some software errors or its real hardware failure ??
2. If this is a s/w problem how can it be solved ?
3. If this is a h/w problem then how can it be solved ??
4. Assuming the problem to be with the touch can I buy digitizer and repair this problem ?
Digitzer I found for A853
http://www.ebay.in/itm/Motorola-MIL...Accessories&hash=item3f1b1a903d#ht_2012wt_905
Is this right product ?
Do I have to buy the screen separately or is it included in this digittizer pack ?

Ghost touches are often caused by too much moisture.
You could try drying your phone by putting it in an airtight box full of uncooked rice, silica gel or something else that absorbs moisture.
Some suggest using a hair dryer or even putting it in an oven - personally I don't think those are good ideas.
If nothing helps, you'll have to replace the digitizer.
I don't know the exact procedure - but there are said to be some tutorials on Youtube.
Furthermore, there's a lot of people here with the same problems and lots of them were able to fix it - maybe they find this thread here and can give you some advice.

Touch Screen not working - Digitizer issue?

Have got a strange issue with my diamond
touch screen is not working, it seems to be tottaly out of alignment
have tried calibrating again, but the calibration tool just loops around and around, and doesnt complete
i had this issue the other day but was fixed after calibrating the screen
any ideas what it the fix is, or should i send to htc to repai under warranty
i have tried searching for an answer, but cant find anyone who has had similar issue
Digitizer issue?
maybe have a look at this

Hi,
I am in the UK and found my touch screen started responding on the other side of the device, then it wouldn't respond at all.
It was pretty much all over the place until I called them up.
They sent a courier, collected the phone on the Thursday, returned it Wednesday so 5 day turnaround collecting and returning to my home.
I would strongly suggest going through them
re
i heawe same problems with touch, bath only fix in service ,it takes 2 weaks 2 repeair ....g.b.
A refresher - I had the same problem, but it turned out to be very simple to fix - dust around the screen.....
It is possible that between the screen and the cover there will sneak some dust and other particles. They will exert the pressure over the screen, fooling the touch-sensor. You need something thin and preferably firm (like bit of plastic screen) and go around the screen - GENTLY - there's electronics inside!
I did it, and all returned to normal... And I was scared that I will be forced through the whole "servicing" proces....
Anyway - worked for me!

Screen problem, any clues?

Hi people,
I'm having this weird screen problem:
http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a360/eclinck/diamond/
Does anyone have a clue?
It could possibly be a bad connection between the lcd and board. Or, your lcd could just be bad. Either way though, it's definitely a hardware problem that needs repair (meaning not just a simple software fix).
Hmmm...
i had a similar problem when i booted it up the screen went gray and (white or black i forget) but the day before it was in extreme heat (40 degrees C) luckily it repixelated and came back to normal be warned of heat.
Have you had it in extreme heat as that may also be a cause of the possibility Phantom1275 pointed out.
(PS: i hardly go on this forum as i dont have much time on my hands)

HOW TO: fix Droid/Milestone touchscreen lack of responsiveness and Ghost Touch issues

NOTE: THIS SOLUTION IS POTENTIALLY DAMAGING AND MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE
PROBLEM: touch screen acts erratic, notification bar keeps opening, screen appears to be touched by someone else continuously (Ghost Touch), and parts of the screen DO NOT RESPOND TO TOUCH.
MY OWN SPECIFIC CASE: I had the Ghost Touch issue for 3 days suddenly without intro, which often used to go away after a reboot or two, then phone worked normally after I removed the battery and left it in a dry area (in a closed drawer between books, no air entering, very dry atmosphere), however the RIGHT SIDE of the screen (Search button, rightmost letters [L and Delete and sometimes ENTER] do not work. If the phone is in normal landscape, you cannot open the notification bar by dragging it normally.
DIAGNOSIS: for some people, the problem is more severe. The Digitiser itself could be malfunctioning and has to be fixed, while for others it could be a true problem with the screen itself. However, for MANY OF US, it is a problem of HUMIDITY. The humidity sensors are causing the phone to act like that. Some say part of this problem happens because the way the keypad affects the phone internally as you open and close it a lot.
SOLUTIONS:
1- To be safe: send the phone to the shop. Ask them to open the phone and apply an extra layer of insulation, in case the digitiser and the screen are okay.
2- If something is faulty, replace it at the shop.
3- MY OWN SOLUTION: based on something I read many times, the solution was to apply DRY HEAT for at least 45 mins. What I did, based on averaging out many experiences I read online, was to remove the SD Card and SIM, remove battery, I heated up a toaster oven for 10 minutes, waited until the temperature was at about 60-70 degrees Celsius, SHUT DOWN THE HEAT, put the phone on its screen on a plate, screen facing down and covered by a cloth to protect it from direct contact with metal, then all inside the oven. The oven is a relatively big one, so phone was AWAY FROM A SOURCE OF DIRECT HEAT. I closed the lid, then every while 15 minutes I would heat the oven for 40 seconds to maintain the temp. This is LIKE (ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION) leaving your phone in the glove compartment of your car while its parked in a sunny spot, to find it really hot in the morning and tough to touch for a while. TO CONTINUE, after the phone was out of the oven (I can't believe I am saying this), I left the phone overnight in a dry area for 8 hours (could need less time). Then, I put everything back in, plugged it, and THE PHONE IS WORKING PERFECTLY NOW!
NOTE that solution number 3 could affect your keyboard buttons if heat is too much. It may cause the glue holding the keys to melt a bit. Be delicate with your keyboard after you restore your phone.
Again, I only did this YESTERDAY. With the exception of some keypad stickiness, the phone is working perfectly now.
I hope this was useful

EDIT: Today is the First of May, phone is still working without a glitch
N.B. Press the Thank you button if you wanna congratulate me on daring to toast my milestone in the name of scientific inquiry
SECOND EDIT: Phone did it again for 2 days. Applied the same method, and it worked again. I think partially it happened because I was in a very humid location.
That didn't work for me, I had no option but to replace the touchscreen/gorila glass.
I love the idea of toasting a milestone
Thought with all my aggression against Moto, I think I just might leave it in there
Luckily I dont have these problems so I wont get tempted

I have to admit, I cared litte whether or not this actually worked. I just wanted to toast it But it did work, so
Pretty tempted to try this out, I think I will when I have free time.
My phone had the dead zone problem for 2 months now, but in some very rare cases, like when it's a very hot day, the screen will work normally for a minute or something. Then it goes back to dead part. I assume this would fix it?

If it DOES indeed work on hot days, then it means the phone is not entirely dead. But I would suggest you do something less drastic first, such as the Glove Compartment method. No responsibility though
If you're trying to remove moisture, you could also try putting it in a baggie of crystaline cat litter (NOT the clay kind!) - this stuff is sold at a MUCH higher price as a way to save a phone from water damage, but it's the exact same substance. Does a great job removing moisture. It's the same sort of silica gel that's in those packets in medicine/vitamins that says "Dessicant - do not eat".
Or you could just put it in a sealed bowl with raw rice for a couple of days... this is the best and cheapest way (and then you have the silicon "grains", the ones that you find in shoe boxes or computer parts boxes).

Pretty sure that rice doesn't do anything, I don't know how that started as a suggestion, but its not better than anything else; its not known to be absorbant, but the silicon is.
I've tried the method but the right segment of the digitizer still doesn't work.
My biggest issue with regards to "lack of responsiveness" are the 4 capacitive buttons. Pressing the Home key is always hit and miss. I know I hit it all the time because I can feel the vibration feedback but it only goes to homescreen 50% of the time.
Will also be testing this out as soon as I have the spare time. My screen started acting up after I accidentally put my milestone in a small beer spill at a party Hopefully this will work out for me too!

Luckily for me, I was still under warranty, heh. Cause I had insurance. This is my second Droid this has happened to. Hopefully my replacement won't do the same thing.
How many times did you reheat the oven? I tried just once and it didn't help. My phone has been having this problem since January.

I feel I am on a cooking show
Well, depends on your over. Mainly I was trying to maintain a temp varying between 50-60 c. Mostly 50, but sometimes 60 to up the ante a bit and make sure things stay warm. 30 minutes at least. However, I have to say that I did this twice in 6 weeks, and after that the phone just died again, and I found my warranty card and sent it there to be fixed, and they fixed it, but ruined something else.
If you have the warranty card, take your phone and send it to them Someone told me the method worked and the phone has been good for quite a while, but most of us seem to re-experience the issue after a while.
I've been having these issues for a few days now too, and I think I know why. I've been using this Milestone for 4 months now, and I never had this problem until a few days ago. What I noticed yesterday was that after some acting up, the phone started working properly again. So I ran Touch Test. And I noticed that if I pressed really hard on the top side of the phone(where the logo and the ear piece are located) it started acting up again. My first impression was that the glue holding down the gorilla glass was loose. So I left the phone as usual on my night stand and then I tried the same thing with the pressing on the same area. Guess what? It didn't happen again. Now there seems to be no problem. So I tried to remember what happened yesterday before the screen started acting up, and I remember talking to my wife for a while when I was in my car. Yesterday was a pretty hot day and I was a little sweaty when I talked to her. Now since only that specific part with the earpiece was causing this issue(I tried pressing equally hard on other areas without any problem my guess is that the insulation between the earpiece and the touchscreen has been breached. Maybe because of all the sweat that went in there in time. You know the salt and acids in the swear are known to melt things, and poor quality glue is among them.
How to fix this? I do not know yet, but I do have a good idea that I'd like to share. I want to buy a screen protector foil, and put just a little band around the ear piece. That would probably lower my in-call volume, but since the Milestone is very loud anyway I hope it the quality of the calls won't be too much affected. After that I'll use it in normal conditions again and see if the ghosting happens again.
try completely formatting your SD CARD/PARTITION.
& then reinstalling using (FAT 32/EXT 2, 3, or 4)
sometimes traces from the previous ROM might interfare with touch codecs (maybe)
just trying to help. had similar issue & this is what i did.

Thank you for that Solution.
It fixed the Issue of my friends MS without other problems
I'll have to try and the oven methode again. My phone has started to really act up again.
I've tried to install new roms, wipe ect. and it doesn't help with the screen.
Have anyone tried to replace the digiziter? They are pretty cheap on ebay
My milestone started freaking out just an hour ago. No more warranty here but I'm not brave enough to do the oven method. Had anybody tried the Rice alternative?

How to fix ghost touches or phantom touches in nexus 7 2012

Many users including me have faced this issue, the tablet screen automatically starts showing surface touches without any human intervention!!!!
so if you are looking for a fix to this issue you are on the right thread :victory:
Here are few things that worked for me and probably will work for you too
1.lock your tablet and open it again (ie make the display go to sleep for a while)
2.Reboot your device
these were the basic steps that might help but still if you get phantom touches refer further ;
This is the most important step that helped me and many users
*Go to settings>developer options>force GPU rendering (force use GPU for 2d drawings) click on it and enable it.
reebot your device
I cannot guarantee that doing the above procedure will fix all your touchscreen issues but as far as phantom touches are concerned it might help
to force GPU rendering is IMHO useless because all system apps and most play store apps use 2D GPU rendering already. This option is only there for developers who want to test their apps with 2D GPU rendering.

I can't give the reasons how 2d rendering works but it worked for me and I have searching for other possible reasons for phantom touches here is another possible reason
1.open your back panel, look at the right side, there is a black piece of foam tape on the cable attached to the touchscreen. when touching this tape or slightly pushing
down on this part of the device touch input starts to go crazy. I have noticed this also happens when the cover is closed and
you push down on the spot where the tape is.
So this probably means the ribbon cable gets flexed too much or maybe shorts when pressure is put on the back of the
tablet.
Put a little piece of plastic right under where ribbon cable comes up from the screen
and you are done
WARNING: Be careful or you might screw up,I will not be responsible if you spoil your Nexus

Theoretically it dosent help because its a hardware problem.I have ever met that probelm and fortunately my tablet was in warranty that time then i sunk help to ASUS.I witnessed how they solve the probelm:They cable-flashed a screen aligning rom into it and callibrated. Then they flashed the stock rom and everything is Okay now.youd better call the supporting center.

There are many possible reasons to have phantom touches on screen let me explain
Capacitance has little to do with conductivity and virtually no electrons actually cross the
capacitance gap (think insulator). It is a measure of a change in the electromagnetic field around
the anode and cathode...causing a change in the difference of pressure between negative and
positive electrons on those competing surfaces separated by an insulator (or ambient charge).
By bringing something capable of either holding a static charge, conducting electricity or otherwise
affecting the measured capacitance (electromagnetic field) near it, the capacitance changes and this
is how it determines where the screen is being touched. It doesn't have to actually contact (or
conduct) which is why you can place a thin cloth or piece of paper over the screen and still activate
it.
Don't believe me? Try it. Put a piece of printer paper over the screen and then try to select an app.
Don't be too shocked when it loads. Another test , even more revealing to prove it... Put your phone
in a zip-lock bag (the plastic bag doesn't conduct electricity), and zip it closed. Then watch in
amazement as the phone's touch screen works perfectly inside the bag. If this weren't true, then
screen protectors wouldn't work unless they conducted electricity.
Moisture, grease, dirt...even dust changes the capacitance and can create an unstable reading such
that it can detect "ghost" touches, or real touches can be distorted fooling the digitizer into thinking
it has more than one press going on (this is a multi-touch screen digitizer), or that the actual press
is somewhere else on the screen.
Voltage fluctuations and "dirty power" such as produced by lower quality wall adapters can also
cause similar results. There are plenty of threads on the subject.
In your case, it was obviously hardware, but just because you identified and resolved your issues
regarding hardware, doesn't mean anyone else who offers an alternative potential cause is a "weirdo". By making blanket statements like that one, you effectively rule out all but your own
hypothesis, and then you make yourself look like the "know-it-all weirdo".
My device and solution
Like stated problems may come in different forms and solutions may vary depending on the issue. However after reading a lot of different forums I decided to fix the issue myself.
The problems were a lot of "phantom touches" and not responsive to touches at all. Only a lock up and open or reboot helped until I found out what caused it for me.
I have Nexus 7 2012 model and my problems were temporarily solved. I traced the problem to the touch screen connector (the one with 2 separate heads). So every time when you press on the case from the left side with your left hand roughly in the middle, the problems started. I opened the case and wiggled the cable to verify. Then I applied an extra screw to the one possible hole next to the cable to firm up the casing and so it doesn't bend inward towards the cable and cause the connection issue. Helped for some time. I have to find a more permanent solution. The linked video will show you the location on the cable and how to open your nexus 7 2012. Only do it if your WARRANTY IS NOT APPLICABLE AND WITH YOUR OWN RISK!!! Otherwise use the generic warranty routes and follow those. I shall not take any responsibility for your bricking your device. Screen Flickering

Hey guys
I have a very strange problem with my Huawei P10
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that two purple horizontal stripes are appearing in a 3-4sec sequence
Normally, I would immediately ask for a repair, but there's a thing which persecutes me: it only happens when I don't touch the screen for longer than 3-4sec
When there's a continuous contact with the screen (e.g when writing a message) nothing happens, everything is fine and dandy, but whenever I leave the screen for itself for 3 or more seconds (e.g when watching a movie), the stripes start to appear every few seconds, and continue until the screen goes dark or until I touch it again, but after touching it it still takes only a few seconds for the stripes to sequentially flicker again
Here's what I've tried so far (no result):
- safe mode
- factory reset
- cache partition wiping
- cord input deep clean
What may be the reason?
Hey.
It's 100% a board or Display issue. send it for repairs. but i believe maybe you've dropped ur phone. Anyways Huawei knows better.

It's quite complicated
I once dropped it, but even after that, the previous LCD worked fine, there were no errors other than broken glass, so I guess we could exclude a board issue and lean toward your second option, as now that the LCD has been replaced, the fault occurs
What's more, I noticed that if I press the Home Key, and then put my finger in the bottom right corner and hold it, I can still use the whole LCD space without the flickering (I need to press the Home Key first so that it works after I hold my finger in the corner)
It's like the LCD needs to be in contact with your finger all the time to avoid that, which has led me to an idea: would a tempered glass solve that maybe?

I can't really answer for sure but i believe if there's a Huawei service center in your city and you try to fix ur broken huawei, your wasting your time. Whatever solution u apply on ur phone its just gonna be temporary since u hide your problem and not solved it.

I still think (or should I say believe ) that there's a solution which doesn't involve another screen replacement
As for your "temporary solution" mention, I guess if I found one, it wouldn't be temporary, since the fault doesn't progress, it's been the same for a month or so when it first occured, which gives me another reason not to replace the screen and keep looking for other possibilities
I don't need a Huawei service center, I can replace the LCD myself (didn't do that the first time though), but it still involves spending money, whereas I've been looking for unpaid solutions the whole time; getting a new LCD is an extremity

You can ask them to diagnose it and tell you about problem noone makes you pay for a lcd. And after reading your message over and over (And since i repair TVs and everything with electronics inside) i think it also can be your touch or display controller ic. Mostly it could be from touch ic since screen works fine while its in touch with something. But someone has to try your lcd or mb on a healthy one to make sure. which you can't do nothing like that. or do you?
@fengels did You bought original lcd, where can I buy it in good price?
I know this problem from older galaxy series like s5. The fix for this most of the time was disable auto brightness or higher the brightness on auto brightness. Don't know if this is the same problem, but it could be a try. Also don't know which cause this strange problem. Hope it can help you

No, it's a different problem, in the galaxy series the whole screen would flicker, whereas in my P10 it's only 2 horizontal stripes appearing in a 4-5 sec sequence whenever I leave the screen untouched for longer than 5sec
Playing around with the brightness doesn't solve that unfortunately, actually no in-device settings do, as I've tried almost every single option which is screen-related, like switching the eye comfort mode on, but still no result
The main reason why I'm still looking for an unpaid solution is that apart from this one error, the phone is like brand new, everything works fine
ok, so if I understad the problem shows up after you replaced the LCD display? So do you really think is more software related than hardware? I personally would send it to diagnose and repair.

The thing is it didn't show up immediately, I had used the phone for some time with no errors before it first occured
Also, since the new LCD was set, I haven't done any physical damage to it, I've never dropped or sunk the phone
Since you guys mostly advise me to send it, I guess that's what I will have to do

While you were replacing screen, did you turn your device off and disconnect the battery? and i think cleaning all cables coming from LCD and related sockets on motherboard can help. Use thinner or alcohol and if you wanna use thinner be careful so it wouldn't touch anything except golden contacts. Thinner is dangerous and affects ur phone color and plastic parts.

I did turn the device off, but I didn't take the battery off, since it's strongly glued to the phone's body, and I didn't want to damage it
Anyway, could not taking the battery off really be the reason?
As for cleaning, I did it by simply blowing out all the potential dirt, I'm inexperienced in thinner and alcohol cleaning

I am not sure butbon some phones it damages screen. I've seen this on laptops. But anyways its done. Open ur phone and use alcohol. put 2 drops of alcohol on each socket and flat cable connectors and brush it with a soft brush. u don't want to bent any golden contact. It's last thing u can do to fix it without paying for hardware related stuff.

Well, will definitely try it then, but what alcohol? Does it need to be something specific?
