Hi again guys, So heres the thing. My boss brought me this LG Thrill 3D(p925) i think it is. Problem is that the phone has no IMEI and or baseband showing. It will turn on but will not enter recovery no matter what i have done. So my guess is that it was flashed with Froyo having the gingerbread baseband(not sure about that). Anyways, I decided to try to flash it with gingerbread and have follow all the tutorials i have found in here and google. But no luck at all. When its flashing or updating the phone it will stop communicating when it reboots to download which is a completely black screen lol. And the updater reads that there was a problem communicating with the phone. Question is, is there a workaround so that at least i have a recovery to flash it? And or a way to force the update proccess? Perhaps the phones is bricked even though it turns on and wifi works and all that. Also btw, the phone turns on only if connected to a charger, but it wont connected to the usb cable from the computer and or simply pressing power on it. In order to turn it on, i need to insert the charging cable and press power. Any ideas?

True that, but the phone seems like download mode is not working correctly. When i put it in download mode(pressing volume up and inserting the usb cable) The phone seems to be there, at least it vibrates and show as serial on device manager. But then when firmware flash starts it will stop on 15 percent and then send a message about problem with communication. I dunno what to do since i cant get to recovery neither. My guess it maybe because of the corrupted IMEI and no bb showing but im not shure of that. It maybe be bricked someway somehow. Funny thing is that it will turn on normally if i insert the usb charger and press the power button, but it wont turn on without the charger. After that it just works normally, except for the no imei stuff. It even connects to wifi also.
Someone posted a fix to recover imei number look in the o3d forum it is the same phone as thrill

I was getting ready to flash a new rom and flashed back to stock using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439. When I first tried, it got stuck on "Setting partitions". So I unplugged removed the battery and killed kiestray on my pc. Then I got the phone back up and into download mode and tried again. Everything went through like normal, and it said something along the lines of success device rebooting. The problem is, it never did. When I press the power button nothing happens . Nothing I do seems incite a response from the phone. Any suggestions? Have I completely bricked my phone?
Remove battery for a couple minutes try dl mode again
If no, search jig, forces dl mode

From what i've read, the usb jig wont help you if nothing shows up on the screen when you press the power button. But I sure hope I'm wrong.
ps. I just tried leaving the phone with battery removed for a few minutes, and no luck
this happened to me once I put the phone on the charger overnight even though the charging symbol did not show up I thought it was fried but the next morning i got it into download mode tried odin again and success hope it works out for you also if you do get it into download mode try a different usb port on your pc for odin

Yup, thats actually my current plan. I figured that the phone might be freaking out because the battery is too low.
I totally just did the same thing, pulling the battery, sim card, and sd card, then holding both volume butons with usb plugged in, and inserting the battery got me back into download mode
Nope ... Nothing

Nevermind I got it to work!

Okay, so as far as I am able to find... This problem is pretty unique...
I'm running Cognition 4.5.3 with no software issues. I have had this problem since Cog 3...
Most people have trouble getting their phone to boot into download mode, but NOT ME!
My phone randomly (I can find absolutely no cause or trigger and I'm not really a novice at Android) will shut itself off. Now normally I would not have an issue with this, but when I go to turn the phone on... it boots straight to download mode, and no key combo or anything will avoid it. So I have been testing this out and I can reboot the phone from the enhanced power menu, I can boot into Recovery from enhanced power menu... But when the phone shuts off or when I shut it down, the ONLY way that I can get it to power on correctly, is to plug the phone in and wait for it to show that the phone is charging. Then I can power it on normally...
Now, this issue arose the same time that my phone began to refuse to be recognised when plugged into a computer via USB... and at times the USB debugging and USB connected notifications will remain in the notification bar until I reboot the phone...
Naturally, my first instinct was to try and restore to stock... But since no computer will recognize my phone (even with fresh drivers installed) I cannot use odin to flash to stock.
So to summarize my problems:
1. My phone will not be recognized by a computer. (USB device not recognized)
2. My phone randomly shuts itself off. (Not a big deal, I can live with that)
3. My phone ONLY boots into download mode unless plugged into the charger (Incredibly frustrating when I am not at home or I don't have my car charger)
4. USB debugging and USB connected notifications stick around until phone is rebooted. (Using enhanced power menu. Again, I can live with this minor annoyance)
have you tried reflashing that rom...or trying another?
it could be the random shutdown issue that some cappys have paired with a failing usb port.
try changing roms.

Hehe... I tried a different rom for two weeks and had similar and/or more problems...
Reflashing doesn't help either.
I've tried my best to troubleshoot this on my own, so I'm not shutting down your attempt to help. Just letting you know I have tried it.
I hadn't heard about a failing USB port problem... I'll read up on it.
Thanks for your help!

like i said could be a short or something in the usb port...or somewhere in the hardware. if you experience this problem across different software then it has to be a physical defect someplace. cause if it were software related it would fix once you flashed something different...
you can try for a warranty replacement, that requires a little loose morals. you will have to do something to cause it not to boot, or only boot to the at&t screen otherwise they will have proof of root and/or custom rom and void your warranty. once thats accomplished mention some crap about kies failing and they should replace it.

Hmmm... a few months back my original USB/Charging cable broke and for a couple of days I was forced to use a generic MicroUSB cable to charge my phone... Could that have cause a short/damage to the port?
My phone does not have warranty as I bought it refurbished. :'(
(Plus my morals aren't that loose.)
Had a similar issue, eventually determined that it was a short in this usb port and did a warranty return. (Only when plugged in could I turn on, etc.)
If that isn't an option for you, you could try flashing CM. For some reason, the cyanogenmod build won't let the phone charge when off. ( Automatically powers back up once the juice flows.)
I flashed a nightly and somehow, magically, my phone would power back up normally ( but wouldn't turn off, unless plugged in without power. So strange!)
Even more weird? I flashed back to stock and the new powering and rebooting stuck. The short wasn't fixed, my phone simply seemed to reverse the problem.
Plus, you would be using cm.

Thanks! You guys have pretty much answered my questions...
I don't want to leave my nice DG Rom though.
Since I have determined that it is a hardware problem... I think I'm just going to live with it for a few more weeks until I can afford to go ahead and buy the newer build of the Cappy... (Might even wait until the SGSII comes out.)
You should be able to get warranty replacement, just make sure the device is in a stock condition when you take it in!

hi this is a bit strange for me. Me, my associate and a friend got a galaxy s i9000. My associate and me are always upgrading and downgrading with odin, trying last firmwares, kernel and more, no problem at all.
My friend got his stock kernel 2.2.1 on his phone. Two days ago he bring me the galaxy, totally dead. No combination, no download mode, no signs recharching, no signs attaching to the pc
He says "non ho fatto niente" (italian version of "i am scared of what you can think so i lie and gave the problem to you")
i searched the forums and tried some solutions (like vol+ and vol- while attached to the pc and insert the battery) but nothing happens. I have tried the battery of my phone, nothing. I have tried with the jig usb, nothing.
So, there is something else i can do? Some trick? I read in this forum that someone have solved with the jig, but how? I just put in, put in and tried to turn on the phone, nothing.
There is no sign of life at all. It's a paperweight?
Had the same thing, got in to download mode this way:
Hold menu+vol down+power and then (still holding the keys) insert Micro USB in to phone (Odin running). You need at least 13 fingers on one hand (finally visiting Chernobil payed off )
I tested it three times, only this worked (phone was totally dead, failed at flashing Sbl.bin).
Mine is still bricked (something wrong with my USB on comp or the cable) and at the moment I can not get into download mode this way (failed at param.lfs). Previously the phone was of battery for 24h+ and I'm waiting to see if this does something.
Good luck, you'll need it
nothing happens :S
tried odin 1.82...
there's a youtube video that shows a modified home made jig and it worked!give it a try
Are you still holding the keys after you connect USB cable? You should for some time.
How long has it been disconnected from power (removed battery)?
i put in the battery of my galaxy that was a 60%...it is better to use the original charged?

I'll put on charging...it's getting hotter so something "it's alive"...we'll see
so...i made it working, don't know how precisely...it was full of crap, so i wiped out and upgraded to 2.3.4...but:
got arctifacts while changing screens (from desktop to app menĂ¹ and turning on)
the phone shut down totally random...
I suspect some sort of hardware damage. You should put on original firmware and RMA it. If you don't put on original firmware they will claim it got damaged while flashing with an unofficial rom and you will have to pay for repairs and parts.
Could be faulty internal SD, can you run some sort of Android hardware testing software?
actually is "empty"...it doesn't have sim neither sd, is there charging...and now doesn't show the charging animation, shutdown again...bah
ok this is scary...the last 3 times the phone shutdown was because i put back the rear cover...wtf...
what about the testing tool? any name\know usefull software?
Seems we have similar problems. Sometimes when I had put my phone on desk (on the battery cover, not display) it shut down. Put a piece of paper under the battery but did nothing.
I meant internal phone memory, not removable sd card.
ahhh kk...and what about teh testing tool? you know some good app?
Today, i tried to flash my galaxy with 2.3.4 I9000XXJPY , something like that ... and i got stuck at partitioning .... So i removed battery. and now i cant turn on my< phone. I cant enter download mode, because 3 buttons are not working for me So what are my options ?? Jig? or anything else ???
try the other combination vol+ home power...i did this today and it works...otherwise try the jig, always worked for flashing brick
That doesn't work either May phone is strange. When i first tried to update it trough KIES, something blocked, sedond time was a success, after that i got MTP crashing aplication problem, that i couldn't solve i will get the Jig and try that. But if for some reason, JHig doesn't work... what are my next options ???
If phone is totally dead, jig won't work. If jig won't work, you need jtag. If jtag won't work you need to replace 'motherboard' on the phone.
If jig does not work, just RMA (odnesi na garanciju) the phone. If flashing kills it, something was probably wrong with the phone.
(hold vol+ home power and while holding them plug in USB- it worked for me, but failed again and it doesn't work anymore)
Ok, today i got jig, and i insert it into phone, and download mode pops up, but when i connect it to the computer, computer doesn't recognize phone, and odin too ??? what to do now ??
Have you tried reinstalling the Samsung drivers on to the pc?
Also make sure Kies isn't running, it's worth a try
I tried, no luck Any other solutions maybe ???
I just bought the phone and using LGmobile update. It downloaded a file about 420mB and in the process update I got a message problem communicate with your phoneme. please disconnect take phone out etc.. and turn phone on and connect.

Hopefully the battery will help...good news is if you can connect and start the flash each time it is not bricked...i have not seen this problem posted before so doubt it is hardware...does adb see it...if so i would try to wipe system and data and reflash...i would also pull sim and sd card before flash to see if that helps ?

Replace the battery with new and same problem, my phone doesn't even read my AT&T sim card.
Any button that I can do hard reset?
I had this same problem is your phone not turning on or just not downloading the update? I bricked my phone installing the update and it can be fixed but if you having problems with the connection during update you gotta keep trying it will go through. If it wont turn on at all there is a fix.

This is the problem:
1. I bought new phone on Craigslist running 2.2 and everything working.
2. Connect to PC and set up driver, software etc.. there is an update so I did.
3. Got stuck about 17-20% and message disconnect and re-reconnect etc.. and I did.
4. Ever since I can't t urn it on unless connect to a charger.
5. I will not read SIM card and kept saying reorganized when check on setting and mobile network.
I am stuck here cause tried so many time. Also, phone turn off with full battery charge but next morning when I turn on completely drained. I think software screw up some how during the initial upgrade. Just don't know how to fix it
OK try this take your battery out and plug it into your computer and hold the volume down key until you hear or see your computer recognize it. It should beep a couple times. Be sure to leave your phone off this whole time. Open up your LG support tool. Once it says your connected open the customer support tab. Click on "Recovery Phone." Enter your phones info and click the check button. It should take you through the steps from there. I had the same problem and had also bought it from craigslist. The good news is even if this doesn't fix it, your phone is less than a year old and can be sent to LG for a fix or they'll send you a refurbished phone. They will want a reciept but if you don't have it just tell them you tossed it. Same for the box if you don't have that. They will do it just start getting angry if they give you the run around. I was freaking out just like you LOL. I couldn't find anything on the web and the LG lady was just as stumped as me... I just happened to try this before I sent it in and it worked. Let me know if you have any luck.

As far as the update goes I eventually did get it to work. Just keep trying. I plugged it in to try again one time and it said my phone was already updated. I went and checked and sure enough it was. The visual change isn't dramatic your signal bars turn green and you get some more bloatware like a 3d game converter. The reason for this is the phone has a custom LG UI and will not adopt the gingerbread UI. Don't freak a lot of people insist its not GB but it is. There is a lot more to a OS than the user interface.

Warranty thru LG or at&t? You mind give a little more. I didn't even know LG has a warranty in US?
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
The warranty is through LG at&t wont do anything for you cause they will know you got it off CL. You'll need your imei and your s/n from under your battery. I wouldn't tell them you got it off CL. The only way this wont work is if the previous owner registered the phone with lg which is unlikely since they didn't even have the GB update. Call 18002430000. Again do not tell them you got it from CL. The phone is under a year old and they will do it for you. If it has to be told that it isn't yours say you had a step brother or friend give it to you. They will want a reciept but you can tell them you tossed it all and your imei Ans s/n will be enough. Also tell them it happened using their support tool. Good luck.

download mode: I got a little confused cause someone told me take battery out connect phone to PC and put battery back. Yours didn't mention anything about put battery back in
Yeah when I did mine it wouldn't turn on at all even when it was plugged in so I think i left my battery in and did it bc it wouldn't respond to anything. I would try to get it to recognize with the battery in but if it turns on after you do plug it in then it will need to be out. You can try to put the battery back in after the computer and the LG support tool recognizes your phone bc after it gets done it reboots. I'm not sure if the battery is needed for it to work but mine was in but you can try it multiple times with it in and out. I freaked out too I had just bought the phone off CL and plugged it in to update and it had the connection failure a couple of times and then poof nothing no vibration no boot screen nothing. The LG people tried getting me to do a hard reset and when that wouldn't work she told me I would have to send it in and that it was still under the manufacturers warranty. I was desperate to say the least so I tried all kinds of combinations. The key is to get your pc to recognize your phone while it is off. If you can do that with the battery in I would try it that way first. If you don't have the box you will need to copy down the phones info, (IMEI and S/N) which is under the battery, for the recovery phone part of the support tool. It worked for me so I hope you have some luck with it. Also I would consider waiting until the ghost call thing gets fixed before you go to gingerbread. If I had known I would have stayed with froyo until they fixed it.

Volume down for recovery and so on. Volume up for download from tool.
If your doing the recovery method that TheDarkLestat setup then your gonna need to do the software setup and drivers step by step. Assuming you have done that. Remove the battery then plug the USB in and quickly hold down the pwr, and vol UP till it vibrates then let go. Start the loader and place the battery back in while its doing its thing . Then don't touch it till its done.
Only simply way I can think of to repair a soft bricked thrill. As long as it loads to recovery or download then our phone Is fixable. You might be able to politely ask TDL to remote in and provide a fix. He was doing that for a lot of us for a while. Though if your not gonna donate for his time then don't bother lol.

I dont' ask for donations.
It's just courtesy.
I have read through all the threads here with the similar problem, but seems like noone ever solved it.
suddenly O2X (not after upgrade, rooting, hitting or smth) turned off, and since than I can't turn it on.
SmarFlash doesn't see it (no battery, vol-down key pressed, plugging cable)
the only sign of life it shows is with no battery, both vol keys pressed and plugging cable, than device is detected as AP device (screen still blank), but nvflash always freezes on "waiting for bootloader to initialize" (before that freezing it is reporting "fastboot.bin sent succesfully").
I have tried nvflash on 3 different PC/notebooks with 4 different cables - always the same result.
is there anything else I can try?

Maybe the battery's death? Just plug in it to the charger and let it charges even if screen stay black....
After 1-2 hours, just use the KDZ Updater, Smartflash or NVFlash method to return to stock firmware...
When you're on APX mode, your screen stay black?
Because, maybe you need to reinstall the Nvidia BootRecovery Drivers...and after trying to enter in APX should be successful :good:
P.S: For ME, entering in APX mode, I just have to push Volume Down and then plug in usb jack. Maybe you should try.
Hope that help  Give us feedback.
Well if you're not able to do anything maybe they won't be able to see that you flashed CM... and maybe they'll just replace it with a new one, it happens!
Also, Jason, to use Smartflash you're supposed to remove the battery so it shouldnt't be a battery problem... right?...
