hello there, I have an idea already how to do this but I still want to hear confirmation from other folks here, the question is:
Im already at CM10 ROM with Devil Kernel, I want to flash the latest CM10 Nightly Builds, Can I flash this without doing the Wipe data, clear cache, dalvik etc step? and also after flashing this nightly build will I have to reflash the devil kernel?
Thanks..any idea will be much appreciated.. :fingers-crossed:
OK you will have to wipe dalvik and cache and yes you will need to reflash kernel

I have been searching around and can't find out how exactly I should go about flashing a custom ROM on the Hero. Yes, before anyone says it, I am a noob at this, and this will be my first time flashing a ROM(if i could ever figure it out). I have the latest stable version of CyanogenMod 7, which i believe is 7.1.0, and the GApps package to go along with it. Both are on the root of my SD card. I rooted with Z4root, downloaded ROM Manager, and chose the setting to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery. Should I flash using ROM Manager, or should I boot into CWM Recovery and flash from there? If possible, does anyone have a video that could help me along with this? The video posted in the video thread for this device is down. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks!
Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery and flash from there.
BTW, I'm running the latest release candidate for 7.2. Works perfectly for me.
I ended up finding a video on how to flash through CWM. I also later downloaded one of the CM 7.2 RCs, believe RC2. Now my next question is, do I need to wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache if I update to a newer version of CM, like a newer RC of 7.2 or one of the early beta versions of CM9?

Wipe cache etc. when flashing a later version of CM7 over an earlier version. Do a wipe data/factory reset when flashing CM7 over CM9.
It has always been a safe route whenever you flash a new rom to just wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik.
Yes.

Hi everyone,
Newbie posting here.. I've had my share of flashing Roms a few times (say 4 or 5 times) but i stuck with cm 7.2 when they released the stable mod for the i9000.
Now i see that the cm9 stable mod has been released and i definitely want to try that out however, I'm not sure on how to go about it and I don't want to do anything stupid. Don't get me wrong, i've tried reading around through different sites and forums but all the mix and match methods of flashing and installing has gotten me confused..
My main question is, how do i flash to cm9 from cm 7.2? naturally i have cwm installed and can boot into cwm recovery. Am on the XXJVK baseband with the pawitp kernel. Not sure if i have to donwload new drivers (since the base ROM is going to change)...
Do i just place the zip file for the cm9 mod in the internal sd storage? could you guys help me out and let me know if this process is correct:
1) save zip file in internal storage (both cm9 and gapps)
2) do a nandroid backup
3) boot into recovery
4) wipe data and dalvik cache
5) install the package
6) wipe data and dalvik cache
7) install gapps
8) reboot
Once it boots up, i'm assuming it'll be running cm9 already.. could you guys help me out and let me know if this procedure's correct? sorry for the noob question but i'd rather just make sure and ask you guys first.
thanks in advance guys! cheers and more power!

wipe date
wipe cache
wipe delvik cache
then flash rom nd gapps
wipe cache nd delvik cache again.. good luck..
Best and most reliable way to do this is flashing through stock rom via Odin. Then flashing kernel with CWM Recovery via Odin. And only then flash CM9 via CWM.
thanks for the quick reply guys. will try it out tonight and update this post. hope all goes well.
cheers!

took me less than 10 minutes to flash to cm9 and it's as snappy as i thought it was. now to fix up everything and check if everything's okay.
so far, wifi and network signal are working fine and dandy. might just have a go at that chimera rom.

Err... you don't need to flash stock ROM again... just do a clean install of aokp... or any other ROM if it gives you trouble

Hi!
I don't know much about smartphones but I want to learn how to customize mine.
I'd like to install this firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836116) on my xperia X8, but I'm stuck. I've spent countless hours trying to do this, resulting each time in a brick.
So, that's it :
This firmware needs this :
Latest 2.1.1.A.0.6/2.1.1.C.0.0 SE firmware / Baseband: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015 >> OK
Unlocked bootloader >> OK
Latest version of the 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel
Okay, so I want to install this kernel, so I'm looking at this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136211
It needs MiniCM10. I don't exactly understands this part. This requires 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel, and 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel requires this ?
I'm pretty sure I'm misunderstanding something here.
If someone can help me, that would be great !
i'm assuming you're still on stock kernel and have dl'ed the kernel and rom for minicm10. amd rom is on sdcard.
1. flash .32 jb kernel via flashtool
2. boot to recovery (cwm), full wipe, wipe dalvik, wipe cache.
3. still in cwm, format system, cache, and data.
4. flash minicm10.
5. reboot. wait for a few minutes.

glad to hear that. hope you read the 1st post of dev threads next time (all the instructions are there). and good job being detailed with your issue. helps a lot in solving stuff.:beer:
Hi guys. I just decided to use custom Roms because stock is slow. I checked some Roms and 2 interested me: CM 11 and Zaiben.
1. Could you tell me about differences between them? At the moment I have got orginal Android 4.1.2 V20B. Is it possible to flash Zaiben from V20B, I am asking because in Zaiben's thread there isn't any information about flash from v20b. There is only about flash from v20a. And I can't post in that thread yet.
2. Also what should I do before flash new Rom. Will wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition be enough?
3. And could you tell me if I want to flash new Kernel I just use install zip option? And which Kernels do you recommend guys?
Thanks in advance.

1) Zaiben is a modified stock rom, cm is a completely independent rom based on open source project.
All you need to do is have the most updated recovery and you can simply flash right away.
2) If moving to zaiben you can probably dirty flash and don't need to wipe data since it's basically the same basis
If moving to cm you will most likely need a full wipe (system, data cache and dalvik
3) Yes - you canno't ask that question
Before you do any of the above you must unlock your bootloader to install cwm or twrp recovery!
Thank you for the help And last question: If I change Kernel what do I need to wipe after this?

Flashing kernel doesn't require wiping anything.
Each kernel has it's advantages and disadvantages. You need to read through their topics and find out which one will be more suitable for your needs.
Then I will try some. Thank you for help
