Hi!
I don't know much about smartphones but I want to learn how to customize mine.
I'd like to install this firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836116) on my xperia X8, but I'm stuck. I've spent countless hours trying to do this, resulting each time in a brick.
So, that's it :
This firmware needs this :
Latest 2.1.1.A.0.6/2.1.1.C.0.0 SE firmware / Baseband: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015 >> OK
Unlocked bootloader >> OK
Latest version of the 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel
Okay, so I want to install this kernel, so I'm looking at this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136211
It needs MiniCM10. I don't exactly understands this part. This requires 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel, and 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel requires this ?
I'm pretty sure I'm misunderstanding something here.
If someone can help me, that would be great !
i'm assuming you're still on stock kernel and have dl'ed the kernel and rom for minicm10. amd rom is on sdcard.
1. flash .32 jb kernel via flashtool
2. boot to recovery (cwm), full wipe, wipe dalvik, wipe cache.
3. still in cwm, format system, cache, and data.
4. flash minicm10.
5. reboot. wait for a few minutes.

So the other day I tried to flash Slim ICS on to my i9000 but I failed. There's like three methods you can try between if the first one doesn't succeed... Non of them worked for me. I still got the same boot loop on every method, every time. What am I supposed to do? Can someone please be so kind and write me a step by step tutorial of how to install Slim ICS. Worth mentioning is I'm on Darky's gingerbread rom JVQ v10.2 RES.
You flashed ICS Kernel first? Tried to install the Rom twice? First to install Kernel and second to install Rom?
Step 1. Boot into CWM recovery.
Step 2. Wipe data/Factory reset.
Step 3. Mounts and storage> Format / System.
Step 4. Advanced> Wipe Dalvik cache & Wipe Battery stats.
Step 5. Install from SD card...
i. Flash Base_3.6.zip
ii. Flash Base_3.6.zip again
iv. Flash 3.6_I9000_Essentials.zip
v. Flash any other .zips you require like face unlock
**Step 6. Flash an alternative kernel like Siyah or NEAK, SOD reports from users of stock kernel. I flashed Siyah from the beginning when I updated to 3.6 so can't comment.**
Reboot.
Happy days!
**EDIT: SORRY don't flash Siyah or NEAK because they are GT-I9100 kernels!! Ma bad!

I tried to install the rom twice without any luck. I haven't tried to install ICS kernel first though. Do you recommend one?

I've followed step 1-5 with no luck whatsoever. I haven't tried step 6. I will probably end up in a boot loop after step 5 so how do I install the kernel? Should I put the kernel on the SD card together with the rom and the essentials and flash the kernel before the reboot after step 5?
You could flash your I9000 with another ICS via Odin and then try??
PLEASE NOTE I edited my post above, blasted Tapatalk.

OMG! I'm panicking! I just cannot get it to work... I've tried everything! Done all the methods recommended. Flashed semaphore ICS 1.1.1 and it still won't work! The only taste of this "well spoken of" rom I can get is through slim ICS v2.6, it doesn't boot loop but when booted I can't seem to get any 3g or signal. So not even that works. I WANT THIS ROM SO BADLY! Please someone help me!
Follow a thread like Team ICSSGS for dummies or ICS333 to get ICS on your phone then follow steps below (from Slim website).
From another ICS ROM
1. Download my latest Base + Essentials (from downloads page download zip not md5)
2. Enter CWM, wipe data, format system ( in mounts and storage)
3. Flash Base*** AND Essentials, Reboot to system.
*** - If the base flash is too quick ( < 5 seconds or so), reflash base before flashing essentials.
You can also clear cache & dalvik cache, clear nstools & init'd (advanced menu). You should clear cache & dalvik cache, nstools & init'd before flashing semaphore. Also once in ROM it is best not to actually use nsTools but rather use semaphore app.
No need to clear battery. My battery is as good as ever and I've never done this and I've flashed a lot of different ROMS.
if you are coming from gingerbread you will need to flash a modem.

Somehow I managed to install cyanogenmod 9 on my phone yesterday, don't know what I did really. But now when I tried to install Slim ICS again, using your guide, it worked! Thank you so much!
i'm having the same issue......but i have no way to boot in recovery mode
same here... bootloop and no way into recovery any1 able to help?
Hi everyone,
Newbie posting here.. I've had my share of flashing Roms a few times (say 4 or 5 times) but i stuck with cm 7.2 when they released the stable mod for the i9000.
Now i see that the cm9 stable mod has been released and i definitely want to try that out however, I'm not sure on how to go about it and I don't want to do anything stupid. Don't get me wrong, i've tried reading around through different sites and forums but all the mix and match methods of flashing and installing has gotten me confused..
My main question is, how do i flash to cm9 from cm 7.2? naturally i have cwm installed and can boot into cwm recovery. Am on the XXJVK baseband with the pawitp kernel. Not sure if i have to donwload new drivers (since the base ROM is going to change)...
Do i just place the zip file for the cm9 mod in the internal sd storage? could you guys help me out and let me know if this process is correct:
1) save zip file in internal storage (both cm9 and gapps)
2) do a nandroid backup
3) boot into recovery
4) wipe data and dalvik cache
5) install the package
6) wipe data and dalvik cache
7) install gapps
8) reboot
Once it boots up, i'm assuming it'll be running cm9 already.. could you guys help me out and let me know if this procedure's correct? sorry for the noob question but i'd rather just make sure and ask you guys first.
thanks in advance guys! cheers and more power!

wipe date
wipe cache
wipe delvik cache
then flash rom nd gapps
wipe cache nd delvik cache again.. good luck..
Best and most reliable way to do this is flashing through stock rom via Odin. Then flashing kernel with CWM Recovery via Odin. And only then flash CM9 via CWM.
thanks for the quick reply guys. will try it out tonight and update this post. hope all goes well.
cheers!

and if u want u can try chimera rom from team passion.. it s combination of cm9 and AOKP.. It s stable and fast..
took me less than 10 minutes to flash to cm9 and it's as snappy as i thought it was. now to fix up everything and check if everything's okay.
so far, wifi and network signal are working fine and dandy. might just have a go at that chimera rom.
Hi there, as stated ICS RR V10 is installed with notecore v14 std kernel, the system crashed after trying to connect to the bluetooth headset: the screen switched to full brightness and because nothing was responding i pulled the battery. Since then no boot was sucessful (only until the android logo), cwm (5.5.0.4) was kind of slow when i booted into recovery, cache and dalvik cache got wiped - the flash of RR v10 itself was successful again but still the system doesn't boot (same behaviour, back get's prettry warm).
Before i do something stupid, i ask you guys what to do next:
-flash abyss 4.2 and try flashing again? ( + full wipe ?)
-flash notecore v14 and flash again?
Thanks for your input.

No need to flash Abyss kernel, you are already on safe kernel, try flashing some different kernel, Speedmod or different version of STD Notecore.
If that too doesn't help flash rom again.
its issue with your kernel, Notecore version 14. fix is coming, in meanwhile try speedmod indeed.

thanks for the input: tried notecore 13 std and speedcore k3-13 separatly, installed the rom and kernel again, situation didn't change, still hanging at the kernels boot animation (android/samsung logo + no sound ?)
out of despair i just redownload rr v10 and give the new file a shot.

ok then I dont know, how a system crash is preventing bootup. Others had issue on v14. Maybe instal was not vlean to start with. Maybe emmc is corrupt, many maybes.
first, on safe kernel wipe cache and dalvik cache. Also fix permissions, Reboot. Fixed it? No continue:
perhaps starting new, cleanly could solve it. Like above you can start from gb, Just to check you dont get stuck at flashing it.
or you can start from save kernel recovery, On notecore or on speedmod. The install of rocketrom went good first time right? if not, then redownload rocketrom as instal file could be corrupt. Check md5s if it doesnt install.
You can format system from mounts, then data from mounts, then wipe cache and dalvik. Then install rocketrom, then instal kernel of choice, wipe cache and dalvik for fun again and reboot. All of course from safe kernel kernel recovery.
If this didnt fix it, start new from pc odin and flashing a gb rom. For this to succesfully boot, it maybe needed to format system/data before flashing from pc.

solved (partly - data lost)
problem got solved by installing the pre-rooted gb rom (dr. ketan) via odin 1.85, afterwards i installed abyss 4.2 (probably not necessary), rebooted into recovery (advanced), wiped cache data and dalvik and installed rr v10 again. Of course i lost all data, but at least the phone is up and running again.
thanks to dr. ketan for his effort and jeetu1981 for personal help
i really need help on those Root Gurus out there.

Okay heres the thing , I want to flash a new roms and I did the same old thing
Wipe data/Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Go to advance screen and wipe dalvik cache
Install zip from sd card - > choose zip from sd card. Find your ROM in the extSDcard.
Flash the ROM and reboot system.
While flashing , it took so long to actually flash like 10mins or so and I give up and I did a hard reset.
Can anyone point to me where did I do wrong ?
And I'm trying to flash this

Just download Hydracore, go back to recovery and flash it... Then go advanced options and reboot recovery.. After that wipe everything again and flash the new rom... Stay away from franco kernel that's way outdated and doesn't work with anything

i tried flashing hydracore and it took for me 10mins plus at the screen and still at the same place.
you tried to flash hydracore, and its not installing ?
may be try to flash back the stock ICS using odin and then flash Philz kernel to gain root
.boot into recovery and go to mounts & storage.
format / sytem
format / data
then try to install your TMT rom
If TMT is installed, Or even part installed then it wont boot with Hydracore kernel, The main thing is just having the kernel installed cause its safe, So, In recovery (with Hydracore installed)
Do all the necessary wipes, Flash the ROM, Then flash the kernel (Philz kernel)
then it should boot
If not, follow the above post to revert back to stock ICS / GB with odin, and then start the whole procedure again :good:
Hi all,
I know similar questions have been asked literally hundred times, but as a complete noob to roms, I want to make sure that I get a full set of instructions and then I won't brick my phone. I want to upgrade my note to this JB Rom by cronosmachine. I'm on stock ICS 4.0.4. Never rooted or did modding to the phone. No kernel change (which I know nothing about), nothing.
I'm not sure how much info you guys will need but here are the basics:
Baseband version: N7000XXLRB
Kernel version: 3.0. 15-1115729
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 20 00:40:29 KST 2012
Build number: IMM76D.ZSLPN
I know that I have to first root my phone to get CWM? My guess is to follow method 1 on [24sept12]How to Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note + CWM?
And then from there I don't know what to do in order to get the ROM onto my phone.
And is there anything else I need to be aware of?
Appreciate any kind of help.
yes first root usin 1a method using philz kernel.
Once done, you will have root and cwm and is a safe kernel.
Download the zip file of the rom you want to flash and place it on internal or external sd card.
boot into recovery now (vol up +power+home)
go to mounts and storage
format/system
format/data
format/cache
go to advanced
wipe dalvik cache
go back
install zip.
point to the rom you downloaded.. and wait for it to install. that's all. see your phone booting into jb.
hope that was clear enough

Thanks SpyderTracks.
One more question before I pull the trigger, can all this be done with the "internal" SD card? Or does it have to be an external SD?
stock recovery doesnot allow installation from internal SD. so external is required. but you can use PC odin to install it, but it will leave a yellow triangle and increase the counter. later you can use triangle away app to reset it, Final call is yours.,
So after I installed philz's root and safe kernel, I went into recovery to wipe data cache system, went also wiped dalvik. Then I went to the main menu, chose install zip, tried to select choose zip from sdcard, but it keeps giving me this error: E:Can't mount /sdcard/
Nevermind, I managed to install from internal SD. But I'm not liking the ROM that much, so I plan on flashing CM10 Nightly to try it out.
On the CM10 thread, it says that I shouldn't be on a ROM based on stock. What I want to do is to flash CM9. But in order to do that, I'm not sure if I'm already on a safe kernel (after rooting using dr.ketan's 1a method (Phil's)).

I'm not sure either, I booted into recovery, went into Philz Settings > about, and got CWM base 6.0.1.5, and PhilZ Touch 3.00 (n7000).
And what you're saying is that if I'm on Philz xxls7 kernel, I can go right to flashing CM10, without worrying the "do not flash on stock based ICS fw" (even though I'm on jb)?

So what I need to do is
put the zip files onto my SD,
reboot into recovery,
install the rom,
install google apps,
wipe data,
factory reset,
reboot into cm10
I don't need to wipe system/cache/dalvik??
once in recovery
mounts & storage
format/system & data & cache
then install rom & gapps
