[Tweak]Speed up your REVO to warp speed!!!!! - LG Revolution

What up ppl? Got a cool little trick.
Here's is the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877183
Basically this is a tweak to the egl.cfg to force the device to use the gpu for all graphics rendering. This is for the Adreno200 graphics set, which we have. Been running this tweak and anything dealing with graphics is a whole lot faster. Even 3d games run a lot better. Dead Trigger runs just as good as Halo does on the xbox. (when oc'd to 2.0 )
Make a backup!!!!!!
Check it out. You will not be disappointed.
***The flashable zip does not work. Unpack the zip and copy/paste to /system/lib/egl.***
I noticed the tweak'd file is half the size of my egl.cfg. Replace it. No frets.
Enjoy!!!!!

Thank you for the suggestion! Does this affect our battery life?

Honestly, I haven't been paying much attention to batt life. But now that you mention it, I guess it hasn't affected it too much either way considering I haven't noticed any differences; at least on stock kernel and blitz3.0 beta.

did you delete libGLES_android.so ?
and Open build.prop and add the following
change dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y TO
dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y,o=v,u=y ?
I couldnt find dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y. So I didn't add the extra line. But should I?

If you can wait till tomorrow some time, lol it's after 1 here, later today i will update about the dalvik tweak.
I'm still waiting to hear back about deleting the .so file. I didn't and have no issues. the phone seems a lot quicker.

thank you!

Renamed the EGL and SO file to .old and just added the new EGL file things are quicker in some areas and the same in others on stock LG Home. Transition when swiping from desktop screen to desktop screen there is still a slight stutter but the apps list is smooth. Angry birds over all feels smoother but there is still the occasional stutter. I am going to try the build prop to see if it adds anything more.
NM neither of the dalvik related items are in my build prop and I prefer not to add them with out knowing what may happen.

Ok, don't have to delete the .so file. But batt life seems to have gone a little south.
And the build.prop tweaks work fine. At least I can say there are no issues that I notice. Can't really tell if it made any difference. I've seen the dalvik tweak in a Rom for the esteem so I'm guessing that it's safe.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda app-developers app

As time goes by the tweak seems to be more noticeable. Day 2 and over all things do seem faster and smoother. I am going to put in the dalvik tweak and see how it goes.
I have not noticed any difference in batter usage. I have noticed that the phone seems to have more free memory. I seems like about 100Meg for me which always makes a huge difference in performance. Either way it seems good. Should tide me over till Verizon gets a Lumia 920 and I can jump ship. I am up for renewal in February. Going WP8 which fully integrates rendering on the GPU out of the box, windows phone always has which is why it has always been smooth on even crappy hardware like the trophy.

Hm. Not too big of a diff to me honestly.

Ok 2 days in and it does seem to eat a slight bit more battery when idle. The dalvik mod made no noticeable difference but since it does not appear to be hurting anything I will leave it. ADWEX runs exceptionally smooth. Screen transition is buttery.

[DEV] [Progress towards DATA2EXT]

So this is the future thread of DATA2EXT.
Basically this is a hack to mount part of /data onto the SDcard, improving I/O thoroughput, as data will be written to internal NAND and SDCard. (Theoretically)
I've currently gotten really close to a functional DATA2EXT.
About to flash the next test, and I think I got it this time.
Progress will be posted here.
v1: Failed. Not that easy.
v2: OOOHHH. Still failed.
v3: Mhmm. THAT should do it.
v4: Heyyy! Found an error! *fixes. Trying now =] Failed as well.
v5: Failed failed.
lots more fails.
v17 Trying new idea now!
Bugs go herreeeeeeeeeeeeee
Maybe some random stuff here xD
Thanks man I'm excited about this thanks for looking into it.

EDIT: Haha... I realize that this quote has nothing to do with cyanogen's warning xD Oh well
Yup yup. I respect cyanogen, but from what I've read, it seems his main issues are:
1. Doesn't actually help anything.
2. Doesn't get wiped, so errors between ROMs will occur.
However, theoretically, it SHOULD help. Read / write is now spread across NAND and SD, so should increase I/O. But again, real-world difference has yet to be looked at.
Wiping it IS possible. One could delete the partition, and the recreate it. Wipe. What cyanogen seems to mean is that it's not baked into clockworkmod. It means that a separate zip will have to be included for those who want to wipe.
But again, I've yet to get it actually functional. Once it's functional, the performance vs risk can be weighed.
On another note, I've seen talk about DATA2InternalStorage. It certainly makes sense, we've a whole 6GB to play around with, and it should be really fast. However, the added r/w that occurs with DATA2X should drastically reduce life. And since we can't change it out... not a good idea.
The SD card can be changed out very very easily, so a shorter life shouldn't matter too much. And I'm not sure of the logistics, but if internal storage is on the same NAND as /data, then moving writes over to there really won't improve anything.
Anyways, I'm testing v4 now after my phone charges a little more. *crosses fingers.
.
What partition layout is needed for this? Maybe you've already seen it, but I've been following THIS, also.
hopefully this helps with real life performance too. When I compare the inc to the crazy fast new devices out there, I feel a bit jealous. If I see some increased speed/smoothness, it will certainly be worth it for me. Also, will it be possible to get this in a flashable zip format? 1 for AOSP Roms, 1 for Desire Z/HD/MT4G Roms, 1 for old sense based roms or am I smoking the wrong pipe in thinking this way?

I've been tweaking the script to work for the DInc. I had to change the place where it mounts stuff, and I've finally got bootup. However, still a billion force closes. Digging into this...
This is all very interesting and I thank you for taking the time to try and get it to work. I just hope in the end it is worth the effort
I agree! Can't wait to test for you! And again thanks for putting your personal time toward improving our devices!!!

=[. Noope. Failed failed failed. haha, but at least I'm making some progress. About to try again now, I'm getting closer each time xP
After so many failed attempts, I am forced to give up.
It's too much work for too little gain.
The whole point of DATA2EXT is twofold: Increase /data space for apps, and increase I/O.
The Desire (what this was originally designed for) has a 150mb /data partition. That's hilariously small.
The Inc has a ~700 mb /data partition.
Hilariously huge.
So, the /data space point is moot.
As for the I/O speeds, there are no real-world benefits. Yes, I/O will increase dramatically in Quadrant, but that's it. Quadrant writes a pretty large amount of files to read I/O, so difference in I/O speed helps.
But that's not the case with apps. Apps store their data in /data/data. The whole of which is usually about 170kb. Yes, Kb. Not even an MB. If I write at 1mb/sec, I'm done in about 0.1 seconds. The I/O will increase throughput to ~2.6mb/sec. I'm done in about 0.065 seconds. That's a 0.035 second difference.
Again, that's if EVERY SINGLE app was writing at once. 0.035 seconds. Negligible.
Haha, I do realize I am making such a strong case against it because I couldn't get it to work xD
So, in the end, Cyanogen was right xP It's just a benchmark hack. Real world performance doesn't depend on I/O.
got it. Now it makes more sense. thanks

Anyone here used V6-Supercharger on their D3?

I'm itching to install it but I'd like to hear from some people who have used it first.
I'd advise against it.
No need, since no weak memory allocation and management like the DX2.
I did it worked had to get correct busybox version couldn't tell if anything really happened but why the avoid krazy?

I figured as much, but I am getting a pretty decent amount of lag, even after fully removing bloatware (about 32 apps total). I don't see how people are claiming 200mb free. Even after bloatware removal, I still only have 80-130 free at any given time, and I personally hate using an app-killer.
Don't get me wrong, I do know that Android will try and use up any memory that is free and that having a low number of RAM available isn't a bad thing. But, as I stated earlier, I am experiencing a good amount of lag from time to time (mainly due to my widgets I would assume).
I did a factory reset and a battery pull 2 days ago, and the boot-up process is twice as fast now...just as it was when I first bought the phone. But the lag is still present, and the REDRAWING is driving me absolutely insane.

not true; v6 is for all android OS released so far. It was specifically developed for Gingerbread, but works well on Froyo also.
BUT: There are still conflicting reports that changes it makes in the /system folder may cause problems with the D3, so until an .sbf is available, i'd proceed with great caution doing ANYTHING to the D3 that is not entirely in userspace.
I removed most of the bloat I was comfortable pulling off... but I must say the biggest jump in responsiveness has been from tweaking the build.prop to increase the events per second (I'm at 120) and VM memory (64m).
Please, err on the side of caution right now as we have no sbf, no clockwork recovery. I had to sbf my D2 enough times playing with things I didn't think had a chance of breaking it, that did, that I'm very careful what I poke at on my daily driver, and urge you to as well

Installed ThiaiZ O3D V1.0 on the thrill

I put this on my Thrill and it's pretty smooth, you can check out all the enhancements on the page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264023
You can't get 4g until the thrill radio gets pulled but, other than that everything is working great. The 3D button is the same except you now have to hold it down! What an improvement since we haven't gotten it to actually take pictures, no more accidental presses because you have to hold it down now.
Has new transition animations it is basically stock with a few enhancements the transitions are nice and smooth no lag. Cool boot animation, android for battery gauge with percent! Even has a different kernel. Just look at the page. No OC but doesn't matter, it's quick, it hasn't bogged on me yet. Installing apps takes literally half the time.
Just wanted to confirm another rom that is working very well. Try at your own risk of course...
I forgot to mention that wifi tethering works out of the box also.

Nice man thanks for posting this. I might give it a try. Just because I love flashing new ROMs lol. Nice feature to have the tethering out of the gate. I am getting 4G with gtg's Thriller as well and it is nice for sure. Thanks again for starting this thread people really seem to be getting into this phone now.
There is one problem. You can change the ringtone but it will always play the default. Im sure there will be a fix soon. Other than that no one is reporting bugs and all say it is snappy.
Ok it looks like they give you a lot more options in the menus. You can search for carriers and when i did i ended up getting 4g..... dont ask me wtf but ill post screens later
Ringtone problem taken care of and im getting 4-5 Mbps when i was normally getting 1-2 Mbps will post a screenshot of my results page if need be. So I believe I am getting 4g or it has just improved the speed that much which doesnt matter either way. Anyone else trying this one out?
Anybody had any luck using this rom and getting mms to work? Tried messing w apn. This rom and the king 3d are nice, but no mms. Ideas?
Sent from my A500 using xda premium
I was thinking if you took the mms.apk from the thriller rom and put it in the thaiz rom and set apn maybe that would work?
Also when I tried to take video phone would freeze for a sec and not save vid or camera would just crash.

"VZW" 2.3.6 ROM - UPDATED 2/23/12 Themed

INSERT USUAL DISCLAIMER HERE. I THINK (HOPE) YOU ALL KNOW THE RISKS BY NOW. Blah blah brick, blah blah not my fault, you know.
Well, using Willis111's Canadian Bell 2.3.6 build from here, somemadcaaant, ZOMBI3, and I have been slowly patching this up to work on the XT862.
I've made up a stock (tweaked for VZW) 2.3.6 ROM and a lightly debloated one as well. Both have the same build.prop tweaks for battery life, the usual wifi scan, as well as the camera video modes tweak, plus some other stuff tacked onto the end of the build.prop.
What we changed was the build.prop (IIRC, I used a Liberty3 one that I touched up to my liking), eri.xml inside framework_res.apk, and libmoto_ril.so to get this up and running on the XT862. Since, I have added in 5.7.905 system apps to get some things running (MMS messaging mainly).
I have flashed these without a wipe (over SD 4.5 I think) and it seems to be fine, although I've only had it running maybe an hour now, so I can't attest to battery life. It may be fine without a wipe, it may be better with it. IDK.
One note for HandCent users, go into HC, menu> settings> application settings> default messaging application> all(sms & mms). This should fix double texts.
NOT WORKING:
It seems the first boot bootloops. Just battery pull and restart. It should boot. I'm running this debloated build exactly.
My stock camera FCs when entering panoramic mode. 3rd party apps such as ProCapture still work. This will be addressed after I get 1% battery and power menu buttons added (Thanks to BuckMarble!)
Here's the links to my DropBox.

Oh boy! I can teach the reboot and 1% stuff(gotta dig up the code for this one, been a while) I've recently become quite the android.policy master. Lol. As for the messaging stuff, im not sure where to go with that one.
EDIT: noticed quite a few com files missing from the framework folder that our xt862 uses. Compare an xt862 vzw rom to this one and try patching in the missing ones and see if that helps with the messaging. In system/framework.

@jchenny i'd prefer a bloated version to go nuts on anyways.
Definately deserves it's own thread to be sure, you will have reboot/screenshot power menu functions plus power widgets and whatever else is needed on the weekend unless some1 else wants to get it done? Looking at you buckmarble and ZOMBI3, i'm using my phone for oncall work this week.
Again awesome release, can't wait to try it.
Edit: Grab my giant APN list apns-conf.zip from my sig link below and see if that fixes mms, most providers have been added manually... could simply be the conversations app not working correctly with the cdma buildprop commands changed and/or rot.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=1, swap out with the vzw versions of conversations.apk, mms.apk, messaging.apk, might also have to swap out the bluremail.apk, bluremailengine.apk and blursnmessagingengine.apok or perhaps use the aosp versions?
Could it be a google restoring settings thing, always gives me grief when i forget this after flashing lol.

I believe I have the freshest build on my DropBox. IIRC, I removed messaging.apk and dropped in mms.apk and that enabled MMS messaging. For my purposes, it's a fully working build. I haven't had any errors. Keep me updated if you hit any.
I think I'm going to start adding a time stamp to my .zips, I can't keep them straight. (Now I've added date and time stamps to preserve my sanity, or what remains.)
Oh yea! This is getting themed! I taught myself UOT Kitchen (it's so easy) and applied a META-INF workaround listed on their site to fix a flashing error and it's looking great. And is it just me, or does this boot quickly? Maybe I don't pay attention...

I definitely want to implement more tweaks for battery life, speed, etc. Also, the 1% mod wasn't playing nicely with services.jar and causing reboots, so I marked that as experimental.
