[HELP] Samsung Galaxy S - Bricked - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I had a lot of HTC and have never experienced with any problem when upgrade to custom firmware.
And now I tried to play with Samsung Galaxy S (if it is important, it was an Anycall logo reference during the boot).
Due to I'm a dummy with Samsung, something was going wrong.
And now the only thing I see during switching the phone on is the message in Korean. No load mode, no recovery mode.
Please help to unbrick my phone.
Thanks in advance.

It looks like download mode(the picture is identical with mine when i'm in download mode). Download odin and see if the phone is recognized

What is the correct sequence of actions?
I used this one:
1- Start Odin v 3.04
2- Attach the USB cable to the PC (DO NOT ATTACH IT TO THE PHONE)
3- Press and hold "Volume up" and "home" buttons
4- Attach the USB cable to the phone while holding both buttons
5- The phone will enter in download mode
The picture as I attached appears ("download" mode). Odin does not detect device.

Does it start in download mode by itself without the 3 button combo? If that is the case this would be a first! Anyway as duly noted in the sticky thread in the beginning of the forum you must have skipped, searching and reading prior posting here is essential. Check out the following thread: [GUIDE] Recovery options for "bricked" phone.

Yes. If that korean message means "download" mode that it starts in it without 3 button combo, just using power button.

Thanks for the proper thread, I will investigate.
Please do not close this topic so far.

I tried abc options and none of them helped.
I translate that korean message. It means "Cellular phone Reset Please wait a moment"
Could someone point me what should I do in order to resolve this issue?

Did you install the samsung's driver or Kies? because if you didn't Odin wont recognize your phone.

[Q] Phone-!-Computer on i9000 firmware

My Captivate works very good, the buttons combinations (to enter download mode & recovery mode) works, I have flashed stock JF6 ROM (from [STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY) and several versions of Cognition ROM.
But, one day,
I upgraded my Captivate from stock JF6 ROM (from [STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY) to i9000 JPJPA ROM (on i9000 Galaxy S Android Development forum) using Odin. The phone boots up successfully but there are some problems like the home button acts as back button, the orientation always to to landscape, so I flashed [kernel][froyo] I9000 reoriented v2.0 10.14.2010, with Odin too..
(I enter the download mode by using "adb reboot download" command from my laptop (Acer Aspire 4740G with Windows 7).
But, I realized that there's no Market so I want to go back to the stock JF6 ROM (from [STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY), but the Odin stucks at "Don't turn off target", then I closed Odin, and when I turned on the phone, the screen shows "Phone-!-Computer", and I can't get into the download mode by VolUp+VolDown then plug USB and Home(capacitive button)+VolDown then plug USB methods.
And now the phone still stucks at "Phone+!+Computer".
Please help me...
Sorry for my English, I'm not native English speaker.
To get into download mode, it's only volume up and down then plug in usb. Whatever else you were doing isn't going to work. It might take a few attempts if I understand what you're saying. Keep at it, it will work.

Unless His Batch Number is 1008. If it is, theres no hope unless you send it back to Samsung.
Note: you can check Batch number by checking under the Serial Number behind your battery.
Good Luck!

@ Patrick: Sorry for the late response, but the answer is NO. If your Batch number is 1008, then you will NOT be able to use "3-button" menu to go into either 1) recovery 2) Download mode. <----I come from first hand Experience. TRUST ME. I wish this was something i could say: "well don't take my word for it..." but its not.

Edit: There are rumors that the OTA update will supposedly fix this issue (derived from the same link above)
My first captivate would go into download mode by holding both vol buttons and plugging in the USB cable. After I flashed an I9000 rom (and ultimately later on bricking my phone from a failed modem flash) that method (or any others for that matter) no longer worked to snap my phone into download mode.
In the past when i flashed i9000 kernels.the button combo changed. Try this.
Remove battery.
Remove sim.
Put in battery.
Hold volume down only.
Plug in usb.
If that doesnt work, do the same only use vol up.

Curious.....what's your Batch Number?

Hmm, what do you know...1008. I suppose this is why the actual 3 button combo never worked but vol buttons + inserting USB cable did?

And thats exactly why i was curious...lol....once i saw your post....i thought to myself: Man this person modified the exact same way i did! haha
So then i did some research (unfortunately it was AFTER phone was bricked "phone ! pc") and found out that batch 1008 does not and WILL not have 3-button recovery/ download mode available (thanks Samsung).
However, have no fear, because i also found a thread where DG has found a way to flash a file to where 3 buttons will work on any/ all phones. That and supposedly the OTA update has a fix as well.

Awesome, although kind of a catch 22 since if something goes wrong with the flash to get 3 button recovery, you might end up in in a spot where you need it

Same here. My point is, i was doing fine using adb to go into 1) recovery 2) downloading.....basically you can NEVER go wrong with adb.
Me <----THIS noob decided to turn off the phone when it clearly said: "Do not turn off Phone" while i was using Odin One Click to revert back to stock one day.
My defense: after flashing 2-3 Roms + Rooting + etc....i thought i had it made. Everytime i flashed roms and such, it only took less than 4-5 mins.....really not that hard or time consuming as long as you're careful. Whatever you do, just DONT EVER unplug....even if it takes longer than 15 mins...lol.

[Q] amateur in need of help!

I followed instructions on a link via the cyanogenmod website, to try and get cm7 on my phone. The instructions were on a wiki website which I now know is not reliable!
I got to the stage "flashing cyanagonmod" to find out that the zip files had to be in the internal sd card BEFORE starting the whole process!
I can still access download mode and recovery. But my phone gets stuck on the "Samsung galaxy i9000" intro screen.
I tried restoring and factory reset but still no joy...
any help is very appreciated!
Download some odin flashable ROM, and flash that in download mode.
where do I find an odin ROM and how do I know which one to use?
corrected: samfirmware.com
If you want a custom rom, then look through here however your going to have to read which is odin flashable...
This is a guide and rom i have used myself. Click here
BTW this is obviously assuming you are on SGS I9000 the second link should be quite clear...

Thanks for your post. Only problem is ODin doesn't recognise when my phone is plugged in? i.e. there isn't that yellow box showing...help!
Ok so im guessing your trying the 3 button combo for download mode (vol up + home + power). Alternatives to force download is a homemade jig, which is easily obtainable from ebay for a relatively cheap price. Other ways you can try is holding the combo for as long as you can, some have reported it may even work after 3 mins. Another method is hold the combo and then whilst holding it insert the battery. Also the last method but have the usb plugged into with odin open, then put the battery in. Many many ways... just search
Is that what you mean or that you CAN get to download mode and Odin and the computer does NOT recognise when you plug it in. If this is try re-installing the drivers using kies, its under the tools menu. Try a different version of odin, plug phone in then try the combo (with battery already in, then without). Have you closed all Kies applications background processes? (use task manager in windows). Use another computer..
Also have you read this
Edit: Forgot to add, can you get into Recovery? Then use your nandroid backup which you should always do before flashing.. If you dont have a back up try use ADB to force download mode "adb reboot download"
Need to know what options you have available in-order to help, what can you do? Is there any response from your phone with pressing buttons or key combinations??

Hey, ok first thing is you have to cheak if your phone can go into download mode. You do this by holding the volume down button, the home key and the power button at the same time.
Dude, follow this link and instructions and get your phone back with ease.

I'm not sure but this looks like a Custom ROM to me, I was hoping to get it back to Official Firmware if possible? I'm probably wrong here though.
So go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9000&r=-1#modelsa and download your disired firmware
Google Odin 1.8 and download it, then Google gingerbread (the version u were using) download xda. Follow the link, download the files then Google how to flash (version number) using Odin the android soul and follow there guide

Can't boot, getting a yellow triangle...

First of all, I'm sorry if the answer is somewhere, I searched, but I "only" found many threads with suggestions for JIG use... The three stickies of Q&A also don't present related information I believe...
After some stuck situation in odin, I can't boot the phone. I get a yellow triangle, between a phone and a computer icons. Even if I try to charge the Phone, I get that static screen.
There's anything I can do without using JIG? I cannot enter download mode (at least with the traditional way), I always get that screen. As fair as I know, the phone is still 2.1 with official firmware (i was trying to apple the 2.3.6)

I already have the drivers, they were installed back then when I tried to update the phone, so they are present now.
The problem is, I cant get out of the black screen of death.. in fact, I'm not sure if this model/version can enter download mode through combo keys, yesterday when the phone was borrowed to me, I tried and I couldn't, so I was using adb reboot download shell command - but anyway, the drivers are there.

Yes. I'm wondering if my Google Nexus S drivers didn't not conflicted with the drivers I installed. I don't know.
Well, I'll try with another laptop, if that don't work, is it advisable to use a jig connector from a "trusted" seller? I'm asking because I already saw a comment or two along the about blewed (is this a word?) up phones.
Hey mate had the same issue your gonna have to get a jig as a lot of the i9000's came with corrupted boot loaders so you can't get into download without the jig and the screen your on isn't download mode I know which one your talking about with the phone the triangle and the computer

No the jig basicly makes it so a certain voltage signal is sent to the CPU triggering download mode no risk at all

Follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
1) Uninstall your drivers, and re-install the ones following the instructions and link above.
2) Pull your battery out for a few mins and then put it back in and go into download mode (power, volume down, home button).
3) Download stock + odin from the link above, and start odin, and connect phone to pc through usb.
Your phone should be detected -- this is where you got stuck right? I'll assume if its detected, the rest you can figure out (plus its in the link above)
Good luck bro!

That would be a good suggestion if could get into download mode Tried everything, including some other solutions that I found around the Web. Looks like the bootloader was corrupted since the beginning, and now that I need it more than ever (because the black screen of death phone-!-pc), I stucked until (hopefully) i get a JIG... Already bought one, have to wait a few days to receive it. Until then, I'm going to use a old nokia.
Jig is only option then install a stock gingerbread that will fix 3 button combos

i9001 bricked?

Hi guys, i gonna tell you about how my i9001 was stuck in a bootloop. Maybe you could help me. I'm sick of it.
Cause: I installed cm10 and cwm5 or 6 as recovery and upgrade my device using Ota Updater. When I restarted my i9001, it got stuck in a bootloop.
What my i9001 can display: It can access to rampdump mode and download mode. In case I try to turn on my i9001 or access to recovery mode the Samsung logo/word is shown twice and stops showing anything else. It often gets stuck showing the typical grey battery flat (with a loading stopped) and the black screen alternately. This is caused when I a disconnect the USB cable from my computer/laptop.
Attempts: i've tried everything except for the right solution. Lots of forum threads and nothing works for me. I've tried:
1.- Boot_loader for device boot.
2.- I've flashed an stock rom: XXKQP, and 2 more: BVKPC y XXKQ1. Each one are official.
3.- And then recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4 and -6.0.1.2.
4.- I've tried, then, flashing feamodrecovery 1.2.
5.- Nothing works for me.
I've been using Odin 4.43. AriesVE in OPS section and when flashing these roms: one package. For recovery packages: one package and pda (I tried these two options).
I can't reach at recovery mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Greetings!

Yes I can, and that's the reason why I don't give up hope. However, I've tried installing some stock roms and recoveries and nothing worked for me.
Try one of the following (or both even if your desperate):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922505 (broodROM RC5 download link) [recomended]
http://broodplank.net/old/flashsamsungi9001.php (skip chapter 5 as it doesn't apply) [if that doesn't work]
edit:: USB Drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
stepie22, thank you for your help. Nothing worked for me.
First link: another typical manual for installing a stock rom via Odin. During the process my device powered off. It was supposed to reboot. After the process ended, i disconnected it from PC and its screen showed a grey empty battery (with a loading in the middle) and word "Samsung" alternatively.
Second link: this was the solution for my first brick. Then, my device showed this yellow triangle. This second time is annoying me. I haven't found any solution to change, at least, the behaviour of my device.
Any other different solution? Thnks guys.

See this ... if that is the triangle, find that part on the wiki page.
Maybe your device got the eMMC Bug?
Normally your Device would be hardbricked if you "over" flashed.
If nothing works out try this:
Have a look in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224029
Download CWM Recovery 6.0.2.8 ODIN Package and flash it in "Download Mode" the regular way (AriesVE.ops and onepackage).
Then maybe you are able to enter Recovery Mode again...
This might be not your problem, but you could give it a try:
Some people had issues with rebooting in recovery, so there is a fix in this post
