They said they would sue Apple if the iPhone 5 would be introduced with LTE technology, and voila, it did. So, Samsung, your move. We're waiting.

From today:
Samsung, HTC to block US , EU Sales Of iPhone 5 Using LTE Patents
"It turns out that the iPhone 5 will be using the LTE radio standard for high-speed data transfer – a standard based on hundreds of different patents, some of which are held by HTC and Samsung. According to an industry source, “Samsung Electronics has decided to take immediate legal action against the Cupertino-based Apple. Countries in Europe and even the United States"
"On the HTC side, the legal battle is already under way. HTC has presented its patent claims before a US International Trade Commission Judge. The legal battle is still playing out, but Judge Thomas Pender has let Apple know that “Clear and convincing means something to me; I have to be pretty darn certain a US patent is invalid,” when Apple lawyers disputed the validity of HTC’s LTE patents."

samsung owns 20% of the whole LTE patents,
i dont know how much HTC has,
bottomline,
samsung has a standpoint but not as much legal standpoint as what apple had against samsung on the trade-dress
I'd be so happy if iPhone 5 gets banned here where I live. But why would it be banned in Europe anyway? There's no LTE here as far as I'm concerned?

Had a lady come into my workplace (where we sell ATT, Sprint and T-Mobile) and told me that her iPhone 3gs, that she had on T-Mobile prepaid, could not make phone calls. I told her to just take out the battery and put it back in. She didn't know how to do it and demanded that I do it for her. Since she didn't buy the phone from us, I didn't want to risk damaging the phone, and because I was busy with other ACTUAL customers, I told her that i was unable to do it. She then claimed that because I couldn't open an iPhone, my store must be "technologically behind" and that I was slow and wouldnt understand how to use something like an iPhone. Skipping the part where I embarrassed her by showing how my HTC inspire dominates, I am just pointing out how she is an average iPhone user.

i think most ppl have heard of it but anyways:
a (swedish?) study pointed out, that a lot of these apple-fanatics show the same symptoms as ppl diagnosed with the stockholm syndrome. they defend their iphone against any kind of criticism and are somewhat deaf for reasonable arguments like the iphone having no extendable storage, removeable battery, supports no flash and so on...
have to say that not only iphone users show these symptoms but also nearly any person being strongly fond of one of their posessions (car, hifi etc).
the iphone is a nice device but way too expensive and i rather stick with a phone i have more control over.
but i dig my ipod+itunes. works great.
An actual conversation that I had with an iPhone user:
iPhone user: What is that, an iPhone?
Me: No. It's an HD2.
iPhone user: Oh. My iPhone can probably do more than that thing.
Me: Oh really?
iP user: Yes.
Me: Can it turn into a WiFi hotspot?
iP: Yes. But I have to pay more for it.
Me: But can it run another OS?
iP: no

Fight Back: Congress Pushing Broad Internet Snooping Bill
"A direct assault on Internet users" is what the ACLU is calling it. A U.S. House committee has already approved HR 1981, a broad new Internet snooping bill.
They want to force Internet service providers to keep track of and retain their customers' information -- including your name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses.
And get this: It's authored by lead SOPA sponsor Lamar Smith.
The ACLU, EFF, Demand Progress, and 25 other civil liberties and privacy groups have expressed our opposition to this legislation. Will you join us, by emailing your lawmakers today? Just use the form at right.
ISPs would collect and retain your data whether or not you're accused of a crime. Supporters shamelessly dubbed it the "Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act," but our staunchest allies in Congress are calling it what it is: an all-encompassing Internet snooping bill.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, who led Democratic opposition to the bill said, "It represents a data bank of every digital act by every American [that would] let us find out where every single American visited Web sites."

Anyway, American woman in the US goes into an Apple store with her Iranian uncle and speaks to him in Farsi, sales guy hears, asks what language they're speaking and when they tell him it's Iranian he tells them they can't buy any Apple products.
When they complain to Apple they're told to order online so it doesn't happen again! Great vote of confidence in their shop staff!

Thanks Scotty
Regards,
This is an email that I received from change.org. I find it quite startling.
My name is Li Qiang and I lead a group called China Labor Watch that investigates and exposes worker exploitation. As a rights lawyer committed to knowing every detail of China's labor laws -- and how they're ignored and broken -- I was shocked when I learned what's happening in the Chinese factories supplying electronic giant Samsung.
Children as young as 14 years old work 11 hour night shifts, 28 days a month and are denied medical care and even pay.
The exploitation of workers at Samsung's supplier factories must stop now -- and I'm confident that if enough people speak out, the tech giant will be forced to respond just like Apple had to earlier this year.
I started a petition on Change.org calling on Samsung to end worker abuse in the factories making its products. Click here to sign my petition now.
When 14-year-old Xiaofang (an alias, for her protection) got hurt after she fell down a flight of stairs at the factory, the owners and managers wouldn't even let her see a doctor. They wouldn't give her sick leave to recover and docked 6 days of her pay. Then, she was fired without any compensation.
Our investigators heard dozens of similar accounts from employees at the factory --even workers being hit by managers or forced to stand all day as punishment for a mistake. In addition to laboring in dangerous conditions every day, we discovered that children like Xiaofang working in this Chinese factory are paid only 70% of what adults are paid. The factory owners know it, but create fake IDs for the children and exploit them with lower pay and part-time hours so the authorities won't find out.
A few months ago, I saw the tremendous impact that a petition on Change.org had when it called for Apple to improve conditions in a supplier's factory. More than 250,000 people signed that petition, started by an Apple customer in Washington, DC. It was also covered by worldwide news media extensively. And in the end, Apple listened. When we found out about the horrific working conditions at Samsung's supplier factory, I knew we had to start a petition on Change.org right away.
I'm confident we can make a difference in the lives of these workers and in the way Samsung's products are made. Please click here and sign my petition calling on Samsung to stop labor abuse in factories making its products now.
Thank you.
- Li Qiang Executive Director, China Labor Watch
I love Samsung's products, but this isn't right. Sign the petition of you agree! Link - http://www.change.org/petitions/sam...campaign=10982&alert_id=JVUbGCTRtt_QLvUhQeLDP

Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
They are a reliable site, but any "news" that comes out of China needs quite a bit of vetting before it's taken as fact. When I see some real evidence I'll step in.
Do you guys honestly thing Samsung would do this? It would give Apple one more thing to sue them for because they blatantly stole this idea from Apple and even I can't deny that
Whilst I obviously don't support child labour in any way, this forum really isn't the place for this topic of conversation. There are many far more politically based sites out there where this would be more suitable.

No, it doesn't. It's a remnant from the days where TV's were still new and unknown. When the governments still funded the only channels.
However, most of that licence income goes to the funding for the channels. Which in turn pays for the shows they create.
Isn't Europe in the middle ages or something like that?
The License fee, currently £145.50 per year, pays for the BBC television and radio channels which have no income from commercials. They also produce regional programmes, both radio and televison. The BBC is supposedly "independant" from the state but there is still a fair amount of interferance if you'll excuse the pun.
All other channels are run commercially funded by advertising.
There is an enforcement regime mainly based on a database of some 30 odd million properties, they assume all houses have a TV, you have to declare that you do not. Fines for not having a license can go up to £1,000.
http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/detection-and-penalties-top5/
A license is per household and covers all devices. It is still required for devices capable of watching or recording live TV even if you don't have a TV! This could mean your phone if it can be used to watch or record live TV, but not if you watch the program via their catch up service. Then it all starts to get a little blurred.
The page above claims they have hand held detection equipment, and detector vans to detect operating equipment.
Do they actually work or are they a complete bluff? The jury is still out.
Fines and convictions appear to have been the accused actually admitting their own guilt, when the enforcement officers came banging on the door.
This topic can run and run...............
*********************************************
Enforcement Officer: "Excuse me Sir, could I see your TV license?"
Householder: "Certainly, here it is."
Enforcement Officer: "But Sir, this license is ten years out of date!"
Householder: "So are the bloody programmes!"

As has already been stated, the license fee funds the BBC.
It's worth every penny not to get advert infested TV programs on the channels that the BBC run. The advertising on all of the other channels is intrusive in my opinion.
I've been to the USA and tried watching TV there. It's a dead loss as there is even more advertising than on the commercial channels in the UK. Rather than programming interrupted by by advertising it is more like advertising interrupted by programming! I found it very frustrating.
And don't get me started on $ky TV. You pay a subscription AND advertising pushed on you! No thanks!!!

My deepest condolences.
Are you forced to or is there just something very wrong with you?

I wonder why so many people like it. I have tried to get myself to watch it (BBC Persian airs it), but every episode I watch just makes me wanna claw my eyes out.

I hate that show.
The truth! I'm really a girl!
Doctor Who may be a bit cheesy on occasion, but i'd pay the license twice with a bloody bow attached on top if it meant we'd finally get Sherlock season 3!

My wife has been watching that on Netflix...seems decent.

I turned on Dr. Who for a few minutes and had no idea what I was watching. On the other hand, we have to thank the brits for Top Gear on BBC America
