Will there be a Vehicle dock? i really loved the N1 vehicle dock but cant seem to find anything about N2 dock other than a universal one.
liked how the microusb easily plugged in.
It still amazes me when manufacturers keep hush hush on accessories when they could probably sell more if they announced them or listed what is coming right after they announce a device.
^ i agree

I bought this for my Note+Hybrid case for my mounting bike. It must be perfect for Note II too.
i hope it is like the one for sgs2, that's a great active holder

Dont matter what manufacturer but i want the Microusb to be able to inject, im an active car user in and out 20 times a day everytime i put it in the charger, doing so by manualy putting a cord in to the bottom will probably destroy the phone after a while.
With this you easily put in and slam the charger in i a sec without ware and tare, they have so far existed for S2, Tab7, Nexus, Note1. S3 didnt get any

At the moment I am using a passive dock from brodit for my desire hd. But my note 2 is here. Can't wait to use that in my car.

Which "official" Samsung car dock do you have? Is it the universal one?
I'm still waiting on the official Note 2 release at the end of the month, but Note 2 specific car dock is my #1 priority and I'd hate for it to be Universal, like was released for the SGS 3. I prefer having a dock that I don't have to plug the USB in, after mounting the phone.
Here's todays reply from Brodit, when I asked about the Note 2 passive holder:
Hi
I can gladly inform you that we are going to make holders for Note II.
We have now started the work with it.
We probably need two or three weeks before launch.

TO CLARIFY: Im not looking for great deals, im looking for a solid, higher end adapter.
I bought a cheap one from amazon a while back, but it was so poorly made that it didn't even fit my Nexus- plastic was extruding through the micro USB plug.
Pretty straightforward, post any recommendations for an N7 USB OTG cable.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FUNYSA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
They are fairly cheap, but they feel just like your average usb cable. I like the fact that the micro usb portion is as an angle which allows devices to be standing up in portrait mode.

Well, mine came with a small amount of plastic coming from the slits in the micro USB input. It also did not fit my gnex, so we tried to cut it, and mangled it beyond repair lol.
I was thinking about an otg adapter that has no cable, but is more of a mount. It's hard to explain. I picture something akin to a plugin- one end is a male micro USB plug, and the other is the female USB 2.0 input.

now that its been confirmed stickmount will play directly off a flash drive, does speed matter when considering a flash drive for this sole purpose? is a micro SD card fast enough? i'd like to get a 64GB drive/card that's only purpose is use with this tablet.
Micro or standard SD has nothing to do with it. Class 10 cards are designed for fast large file transfer like movies or pictures.
I do think you may get better performance out of a flash memory stick, in addition to not needing a SD card reader. SD speeds can be limiting. Real data would be interesting.

That's what I was asking, should i stick with a thumb drive, or can i get an SD card, I guess i'll stick with a thumb drive, If speed won't matter too much i might get a slow 64gb, if it does maybe i'll stick with 32, thoughts?

Don't take my word as Gospel, but I'm sure if you're streaming, a slower one would probably work fine. If you're looking to transfer, faster is, well, faster (depending on the write speed of N7's internal memory). Might do some research when I'm not on the phone.
Planning on testing movie streaming through OTG on a cheapo thumb drive but I don't anticipate any problems.
will this allow me to hook up my dslr and transfer photos?
depends on how your dslr mounts. worse case scenario you get a usb SD card reader (assuming its sd and not cf).

Hello to everyone! Thx,
If anyone knows the pinout for Con3 (rear camera) that would be a great help as I don't have the equipment to test and will cost me money to have the board scoped for USB data+/- and a good 5v+/- by a local shop. If anyone has the tools or all ready knows the pin out for Con3 that would speed things up a lot.
Thx.
Update pretty sure con3 is out of the question (mostly grounds and a couple low power lines)if anyone has any ideas please feel free to share. Could tap into microUSB, but not what I was going for.
are you trying to get power from that is that for data, could possibly using the battery harness for power work at all?
Yes could use the power coming from he battery but it is a bit to high voltage so would have to run an in line resistor to bring it down to 5v. I'm hoping to find the simplest way so most people could do it them self's but also other ways swell.

...anyway, back on topic, the SD card mod is very intriguing. I love my N7 tablet, but the memory limitations are a constant roadblock.I don't care about the lack of a rear camera, I don't use an HDMI out too much, but 16gb (or God help you, 8gb) is just not enough.
I'll be following this project closely. Thanks.
Interesting, I've been planning on doing something similar. Instead I'm going to wire in a thumb drive. HP makes one that is so small it's about the size of a SD card. I think the read and write speeds are faster than a sd and it's also cheap for 32gb

Many of the traces from J4 - the connector for the front camera (which is the same connector and camera used in the ASUS Transformer and many other devices) - route through CON3 before veering off to the flash (for storage) or the networking chips (direction connection for Skype, maybe?). Some of the data signals have unconnected resistors at CON3, presumably because there is currently no back camera. Some of the traces run in length-matched parallel (for differential signaling and/or timing purposes); some of these have terminating resistors and decoupling caps at CON3.
CON3 is almost identical to J4, just with the pins in one row rather than two so a flat ribbon cable can be used instead of the plug/socket the front camera uses. CON3 has 4 additional pins. I haven't scoped it all out yet - I haven't been wanting to tear my N7 *quite* that far down yet - but I just bought a whole unit with a cracked screen that I intend to do unholy things to as I experiment with cool mods.

If you go to staples you can pick up a module just like you're describing (only 16GB) for $12. It's a staples brand, but once you open it up, it's got Sandisk written all over it (literally - laser-etched on the chip).
If there were a 64GB version like that and it was possible to have it work along with charging...that would be perfect.
Here's a photo of the one I'm hacking up. Right now it's just going to be wired externally. If it's discovered that it can be used at the same time as charging I'll be putting one internally.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I wish I had that talent. LOL would love to add a 64gb internal chip to this thing. Alternatively, if you could design a case with chip in it and allow for pass through charging, that would work too.

I Found this little USB HUB and it fits perfect.
This is it before it got striped
Still just in mock up and not connected yet, but it does still close up fine. So I'm pretty sure a hub is a go(for me anyway) and still have room for some flash storage that will go where the rear camera should have gone or just beside the hub
I've been following your work here and elsewhere. Questions...
1. This is the first reference I recall to using a hub. I assume to get around the simultaneous problem? Good idea. Is the hub you chose recognized /working natively? And with an SD reader' with a card loaded?
2. Unrelated... I noticed a couple screws missing, along the left side (top in your pic). And the foam between screws 2 (missing) and 3 (still there) is gone. Did you do this, or was it shipped like that? Is this a recent C8 model?
Nice work BTW, I'm following this closely....

Not sure if it's smaller or not, but they're both close enough that they could both fit where iAppleDev has his hub at in his photo. If we can figure out a way to get the external flash setup installed AND functional while the nexus charges, I think i'd go for a 32GB or 64GB and put it where iAppleDev has the hub.
Hi Guys,
Galaxy Note 2 seriously needs a bluetooth headset if you are talking a lot on phones. I have tried many bluetooth sets but none was perfect, either not good for music or clumsy n difficult to handle.
Then I came across this LG Tone HBS-700 and trust me its awesome.
1. Awesome sound quality (calling + music)
2. Form factor - very easy to carry.
3. Good battery.
4. Acceptable price.

The jaybirds are lighter and dont have the rounded stiff cable. Just 1 wire from bud to bud that rest on your shoulder. I run and play basketball with the freedoms and there perfect. Plus there lifetime sweat warranty. Idk how much the lg headphones are but if there over $70 i say just pay the extra $30 for the jaybirds

I have to disagree. I know too many people who have destroyed theses because they get sweat in them. One guy has had his replaced 3 times already (he runs Ultras).
I have the HBS-700s and I have run in the pouring rain .. and lets not even talk about running in the summer here in Louisiana ... and these have lasted me for over a year with NO issues.
I've had the lg 700 for over a year...
Ups n downs... More ups though. Very comfortable, excellent battery life, light weight, good volume levels...
The down side is it's not the best call quality and that varies from time to time. Sometimes call quality is good and other times people can't even understand me. It's even harder talking to someone with another 700! Most of the time it's ok for call use. For music it's good not great. Bass sucks, and bass button doesn't help out that much. Over all i would highly recommend them. I did my research when buying and I'm very happy with them. If they broke I'd buy another set. That should tell you for the money it's a smart buy

They are a bit hard to find now because they stopped making them but I have yet to find someting as good as my Plantronic Pulsars 590s. Bought them 6 years ago. Guys,
I can see many suggestions and opinions but trust me LG beats them simple because of its EASE TO USE & CARRY thing.
You dont have to put it in pocket or some bag, simple wear around your neck.
No hanging ear pieces.
from the Giant Killer Samsung Note 2
Does the LG kit (either the 700 or 730) have caller ID announcement, or just a vibrate function?
Also the 730 has gotten some bad reviews on Amazon lately for range problems. It looks like they pulled it for awhile and now it's back; maybe a bad batch?

As much as I delighted by new innovation, but I had to say sorry and disagree with you about LG HBS-700. Your claimed about no hanging earpiece not quite truth too. If you read various feedbacks around the various website, I'm pretty sure you'll be getting something else.
I've noted this set before, prior to my moved from SE MW600 to a new stereo bluetooth headset.
I had shortlisted many new headsets like, Sony MW-1 Smart Wireless Headset pro, Senheisser MW100, Moto S10HD, Jaybird Freedom , including LG HBS700. But after tested them, I almost got a hook by Sony MW1 but in the I gave up all of them.
It was not until I've found Samsung HS3000. It totally change my mindset for stay put with SE MW600, which is now ended in my drawer for good after the many glorious days serving me.

may be...i know the first set of 730s i got did not have near the range of the 700.
lg has an app in the market that will announce callers and txt.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
The 730 range is weird. When I am outdoor, the music will skip if the Note 2 is in my pant pocket(shirt pocket or jacket pocket is fine). So when I am mowing the lawn, Pandora will skip. However, when I am indoor and moving around and jumping to get it to skip, it will not. Can't figure that one out.
Other than that, it is fantastic. On off announcement, connected announcement, control is well thought out and you get use to it very quick. I have hanging around my neck when in my car and can skip track with ease.
The phone audio is also very good. Callers said I am as clear as a whistle. Also the battery last very long and the micro usb makes it easy to charge since I have those laying around everywhere.
Music audio is very good, when it doesn't skip that is. The range is at least 20 ft indoor and it won't skip unless the phone is in my pant pocket.
i have the new 730s and i love them. comfortable to wear, music sounds amazing and battery life is great. highly recommend these to anyone.
I recently purchased a Patuoxun Multimedia Dock advertised to be compatible with the Note II, S3, and S4. Please see the bottom of the post for product information.
I am quite happy to report that this $24 dock functions almost exactly as I expected. I have only seen videos of the Samsung Multimedia dock, but from what I can tell this off-brand dock works nearly the same. USB ports and HDMI output can be used simultaneously. For example, I can watch Netflix on the big screen and control the phone with a mouse at the same time.
The two USB ports can be used for standard mice, keyboards, USB drives, SD card readers, and unpowered generic USB hubs. Just for fun, I chained three USB hubs together, plugged in a mouse, and it worked flawlessly. (Not sure if this proves anything, but I thought it was cool.) I have read that NTFS drives are usable after the installation of a special kernel or driver.
However, there are a few points worth mentioning. There is ever-so-slight, but perceptible HDMI lag. (My standalone MHL adapter exhibits this behavior, too.) Mice and keyboards are definitely usable, but you can tell the lag is there. I have a few hypotheses: 1. Perhaps the dock indeed lags some. 2. Perhaps my ROM/Kernel/whatever is a part of it. 3. Perhaps a bit of both.
Also, when a USB mouse is plugged in, HDMI output auto-rotates to landscape, the phone screen turns off, and roughly ~1/2s of HDMI lag occurs (presumably due to a software bug that occurs when a USB mouse is used). Many threads say this happens with the official Samsung dock also. This issue does not occur with ShareKM (due to the nature of the app), and others report that Bluetooth mice do not suffer the 1/2s of lag.
If anyone knows of a solution to the HDMI lag and USB mouse lag issues, I'd love to hear them.
I'll do my best to respond to questions about the dock if anyone has them.

My rooted and ROM'd AT&T Note II works quite fine with this dock. If you're in the market for a considerably cheaper solution than Samsung's $100 dock, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it.
In fact, if enough people are interested, I'll see if I can try it out with other Note II's, S3's, and S4's.
Perhaps the Amazon description means they do not provide technical support, because my phone is obviously supported functionally.
I don't remember this being in the eBay description, or I wouldn't have purchased it. Quite frankly, I'm glad I didn't see it becuase there was no way I was shelling out Samsung's asking price.

The distinction for Amazon however, is that if you buy something and it doesn't work, and you know there's a chance it may not work, then you pay the return and restocking fee.
I know it's not much in the grand scheme of things, but 'caveat emptor' as they say.
Ah, I see. I didn't know Amazon had that rule - I'll keep it in mind for future purchases.

Thanks for the review of this cheaper knock off of the Samsung dock. I want one for my S3. Is it possibly an issue related to your TV's HDMI port settings? For instance some Tv's allow "game mode" for the port to eliminate as much of the processing within the TV as possible to reduce lag.
Thanks for the suggestion. I do have my TV set to "Game Mode" to minimize lag, but this dock and my generic MHL adapter both still exhibit some lag.

I have official dock and have a lag and frame drop when mouse is connected. My understanding is that is due of software picture rendering to accommodate mouse cursor and wide screen movies. If you unplug mouse lag should be lower and picture quality msy be better but movies in Netflix will have incorrect aspect ratio (youtube doesn't have that issue). Depends on your primary use - Netflix, YouTube $35 Chromecast its easier to set up and allow for 1080p video.

Hi. I read this review and bought the dock for my galaxy note 3. I cannot seem to connect the phone to my TV through a hdmi lead.
Did yours just appear on the TV when you dock the phone? Or is there some setup required ?

Sorry for the delayed response. External power is required to use the HDMI and USB ports on the dock, so make sure the dock is plugged in first. Other than that, all I have to do is power the dock and plug in the HDMI cable, and my phone display is mirrored on the TV. The following works for me: 1. Power the dock. 2. Dock the phone. 3. Plug in HDMI cable. 4. ??? 5. Profit!
When I bought this dock, it was only advertised to work with the S3, S4, and Note 2. Hopefully the Note 3 uses the same 11 pin USB port that the S3, S4, and Note 2 use, but if it doesn't that would explain why the dock doesn't work.
Also, if your HDMI cable requires source power (mine does) make sure to plug in the sourcing end into the TV. I can't think of anything past that.

I think they are talking about AOSP roms. AOSP roms do not support hdmi out.... You would have to use a touch wiz rom.
Amazon wont deliver to Ireland. I have tried others but no luck. Anybody now where I can buy this.
I search how i can change hdmi resolution output.
Is it possible?
Native is 720p?
I buy a similar dock, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F6YRDBO/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8
But didn't work on touchwizz rom :/ I search always why.
Thanks
I have a few of those. The dock makes a click sound when USB power is connected; it sort of sounds like a relay switch. I will take one apart tomorrow to see what it is.
I just found the dock referenced in the OP, from the buyer listed. I was interested in this one because many of the knockoff docks don't support the use of MHL and USB OTG at the same time. The link is:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Smart-Dock-...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item3f28ef0d86
I won't be buying it. Other than the fact that the seller won't ship outside of the US, the price is now $93.99, a far cry from the $24 that the OP stated! That's as much as a genuine Samsung dock....
I bought mine for $21 from China.

Deal Extreme apparently delivers "worldwide" (what they said, not me). Their version looks the same except for the glossy finish - mine has a matte finish. Here's the link:

Mine outputs 1080p resolution by default. I never saw a setting to change from 1080/720 on my 4.1.2 or 4.3 ROMs for my AT&T Note 2 i317. I don't think I can help you there.

Why would it matter if it's a contract phone? I have T-Mobile. Is there any reason why it shouldn't work on my phone? Has anyone used this with a phone from the USA?
OK so I'm looking at this pumpkin head unit. 32gb, 2gb ram, and of course the rk3188.
My question is will the audio still play when you turn on the rear camera by putting the car in reverse. I plan to add a switch and a diode to allow me to turn on the rear camera anytime I want even while driving. I'll be towing a 30 foot camper and putting a camera on the back of it and it would be nice to see it for safer Lane changes. My idea should work , but I hope the audio will still play when I enable the camera. I drew a little diagram to show how I will be wiring it. Thanks everyone!

It's in settings, No sound, full sound or percentage of 100%.
You have to swap the diode around or your rear selection will never activate.
Since it's +12 that will activate the rear cam. The switch will activate it, but not
rear selection.

Awesome. I was worried I wouldn't have the radio with camera on. And thank you yes I realized last night. Did that drawing in haste lol. The anode should be on the harness side. I stuck it in backwards on the diagram. This should do the trick and I'm excited to get an upgrade !!
Now I just have To decide if the 32gb / 2gb / rk3188 is worth an extra $100USD
Seems like most people here are OK with the performance of 1gb.

If you have the money, go for it. Although I've to admit there's not very much difference.
I've seen the difference between 3066 and 3188 in speed that's for sure.
Well, I went with the Eanon Ga2114. Looks like a nice unit and i wont have to cut the bezel to fit. It's the 16gb, 1gb, rk3188 unit. From all the videos online of this model, it seems pretty popular and looks like its built decently. Got it for $150 so I can't complain. Also paid another $10 for a 2year square trade warranty.
Now, to download Malaysk's ROM and get everything lined up for its arrival
Any tips / tricks I should know about? I can't wait for it to get here Spent another 150 in goodies for it. New amp / sub wiring, new rca cables to connect the rear VES in my jeep, a powered USB hub, dash install kit, canbus adapter with steering controls.... Waiting is driving me crazy lol
you can connect a dash camera to the back usb and put it in the back.

because in this way he dont need to mess with wiring
By the way, I bought this system a week ago.
The processor is a 3188T - weaker - 1.2 GHz instead of 1.6
And the system gets stuck all the time booting.
I do not know what version of the system and how to get into RECOVERY and the manufacturer does not answer my questions.
My eanon ga2114 is up and running using boroondocks ROM. Pain running all the wires but totally worth it. If you have a canbus and Bluetooth calls don't work, its probably an issue like I had. Apparently the canbus uses the rear channel for all 4 speakers because I have a factory installed amp. Bluetooth audio ( music ) plays on all 4 channels, but calls only play on the front. I had to cross front and back when i spliced the harness for a second time. It all works good now.
Side note, there is no subwoofer line control in the radio and its underpowered. I installed a gain knob and just ordered an inline preamp driver which should boost it a bit. Just giving a heads up.
Also, the radio isn't as crisp as apps like YouTube / iheart radio. Almost like the range isn't quite as high. It still sounds decent and the built in equalizer helps tune it up.

Oh, I also added a switch so I can turn on the rear camera anytime I want while driving. It will definitely come in handy as I'll have another camera connected to my monstrous camper. Merging should be a ton easier. It still automatically switches when I put it in reverse too you have to love diodes

Yep put the line on wrong side of the diode in the drawing. Drew it in a hurry lol. I put a physical switch in my middle console. I used 2 12v 500Ma diodes in parallel.

Now it became interesting again. Why two diodes? We are talking logical levels and currents. One 1N4001 is enough, 99 cent at Radio Shack.
I didn't have a 12v 1watt diode. In parallel 2x .5 watt are 1 watt. No reason other than an overworked diode heats up and fails. I figured 1 amp should be the Max draw for a reverse wire.
I already had some 12v 1/2 watt zener glass diodes laying around

We are probably talking about 0,5-1,0 mA. I picked 1N4001 because it's available for nothing.
so what happens when you hit the switch?
Say you are driving down the street, using an app on the head unit like Pandora or Google Play Music, and you hit that switch. Your screen changes to the camera, but does your music and stuff stay on?
