From Droid-LIfe the VP of Product at Motorola (recently moved over from Google) recently made some statements that they know we got screwed. Here is the excerpt.
Punit Soni has only been the VP of Product at Motorola for a few weeks and already has taken to Google+ to interact personally with current customers to try to fix some of the company’s past mistakes. One of the topics he is actively involved in includes the DROID Bionic and the fact that it still has not received its Ice Cream Sandwich update. As you all know, Motorola previously promised to the world that the update would be here in “early Q3,” however, we are now days away from the end of Q3 and the update is no where in sight.
Soni admits that Bionic owners have “gotten a raw deal” thus far and that a new plan is being formed, but also wants it to be clear that with the new Motorola team at the top, they are doing everything they can to eliminate situations like this from ever happening:
"We have a plan for Bionic. I am currently solidifying things to ensure we can publish it, commit and follow up. I think you guys have gotten a raw deal and we could do way better. But you are one of the top few things I worry about when I look at Upgrades."
The Google+ thread of his that we have linked below continues on for quite some time and is filled with Soni’s responses to all sorts of customers. One comment of his that stood out was the thought that his team now knows to “take your complaints seriously” and that in the future, they will be transparent and stand next to upgrade timelines:
" Again..I totally understand how you feel. And this should never happen. I am not going to throw out the argument “we just got here”. We are taking responsibility for this. And we will engage with you, listen carefully to your concerns and most importantly, try to FIX things.
So we are doing that. My team knows to take your complaints seriously, we are working hard to update the Upgrades timeline pages to reflect the right data, and then we WILL stand next to those timings and will meet them. As far as what is in our control, we will be transparent and we will commit to your happiness."

Yea, I saw this. To really make up for it. Just skip ICS and surprise us with Jelly Bean. I would love Motorola forever if they did that.

Well, making it right would probably be one of two things: either some type of subsidy toward the purchase of a new device, or Jelly Bean. Either way, it's better than nothing!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
At this stage, a subsidy for a new phone would be what I want. Over a year and no ICS OTA. Time to get better hardware running JB, than wait for Verizon to maybe send it out.
I can't make up my mind if I would rather want an update to JB or having our bootloader officially unlocked as a form of compensation.
this whole ics thing on the bionic bums me out. I love the phone, bought ALL the accessories like lapdock, hd dock, standard doc and every case you can imagine, then this! Moto, there is still time to prevent us from being thrown under the bus. you know what to do, NOW DO IT!
How much of the no ICS is Motorola and how much is Verizon? I'd bet Verizon has a big hand it. They want you to buy a new phone and a new 2 yr contract. Motorola gets paid no matter what and will keep developing phones.
All I have to say is that it better be Jelly Bean. A credit of $100? Big deal, that $100 is a credit towards a different Motorola. I don't want another Motorola again after this experience. Next will be either a Samsung or HTC.
Fyi apparently Bionic owners won't get the credit of $100.

Well despite the delays I still love my Bionic, even if ICS is not yet officially available. Regardless the lack of a $100 rebate is not the end of the world for me. I'll probably get a Samsung when the time to upgrade comes along. Oh well..
I think it is soon time to leave Motorola for a while. Maybe I will return in the future
Get Razor HD MAXX Dev
When will that be out early 2013?

Not to mention that VZW is trying very hard to get people to dump there unlimited data plans. If they have one and are on the Bionic with JB and the 1.2Ghz bump why would they need to upgrade?

Is that because the Bionic is "supposed to" receive ICS "at some point"??? or for some other reason? (the article doesn't clearly explain)

The dude said that you would get the $100 if you don't receive Jelly Bean...so I suppose that means we get both?
You obviously did not read my post on page 1 and as of an hour ago we are 100% getting ics. I got a soak test email

I would like to do a time frame. Where we could talk about our years here. Lets see who is the oldest and what we have gave to this forums.
Personally Ive been here since 2004-05. And basically since its started when it was hard to read the texts on my razor and this was basically Htc only.
This site has been great for me and sometimes missed the simplicity of the starting years. And I believe this forums are the true shapers on the mobile era.
Please post youre time. and a story
I have a few but ill start with loosing my first account. Dont even know how it was called!

And another reason I would like to make a timeframe so please talk about youre device history and how its been youre experience in each thread.

I got my first android in September of last year, within a month I was on xda, and by November, I had an account cause I thought I knew enough to help some folks. I do enjoy the community, even though leeches are always making devs angry (IMO, both their faults). I haven't been around as long as OP, but I know my way around the Nexus S, and android itself!

Next time I catch you posting a ridiculously unnecessary "IB4L" post I'm going to ban you. There are more pointless posts from you around here than there are pointless threads, and that's quite an achievement.

How It modified for better or worst?
For me it has been awesome. Ive been impressed since the beggining till mow. How guys seen to know more about devices than now.
when I started the threads were a little difficult to understand. and everything was in one main page. where you could find rhe .cab files. but you had to keep scrolling down to find what you were looking. Now its all organized and eye candy.
keep it going Lets make this thread an archive!

Bro please stop that before you get banned! youre affecting the course of this thread. Im investigating abut how old is this thread and how long its been effective on the people. I think a great part that since 2003i the % of people buying smartphones has grown from a 20% to 90% has to in great part to forums like this. specially this one. people started to know about hacks and how they affect they to bennefit the costumer rather that the company.
Xda has been the pioneer when people started to know about roots and other methods of hacking the os of their devices. making them better. and having features locked by carriers. Xda has been there to keep this idea forward. and I want people to start talking about xda's evolution. and the we could take this info and make it a news letter for people to continue the tradition which we started years ago!
Flashaholic Brotherhood
I for one part started to love this place when I had my Razor. I started to know about firmwares and hack. and every time I searched the web I ended here. there werent the hacks I needed then. That led me to my first account. but it was good to know this was there. and to read about people doing amazing stuff.
This led me to buy my first pocketpc-smartphone. a Treo 750 which I bought from second use and I still have it running a custom wm 6.5 rom with titanium.
Then I bought an Lg incite (wm) which kept me here but most of my time on lg-incite.com
the site grew and my fasination for htc too. not to be surpriced as most of the hacks where make for this devices.... check the history of the first diamond with manila. ( what we call now Sense)
So it led me to buy a Diamond 2
this was another revolution. I was a moderator on the htc-pure forums. but kept my profile here. and was as always morw and more in love with this site as I continued to know that the hacks came from here.
Now on the Dhd I had a bittersweet relation. many forum memebers dont like to keep tradition. But this continues to grow fast. Proof of this is the compact view.
We shall continue making history!

I have been here on xda since 11th of june 2012 thats not even six months. But this place has taught me how to do awesoome stuff with my low end phones (galaxy 5 and galaxy y ) but also taught me many more things, things which no school teaches.
I have learnt to be polite when I am angry, i have learnt to appreciate ones efforts. I have learnt to respect ones work.

Yes its been a great experience!
That's the purpose I want to share how we've come from all over the world. And reshaped business. We've made companies think a bit more about their costumers, although we still need to keep this going proving them wrong in every corner. Like for example Desire Hd and ics!

And I agree we've made companies think twice about their products

Please sign our petition requesting Moto to provide the Android N update to the Moto G 2015 and Moto G Turbo. https://www.change.org/p/motorola-please-include-moto-g-3rd-gen-for-android-nougat-update
You may be wondering why I am asking other Moto owners to support the G3 and Turbo by signing our petition... We are asking Moto to simply do what they said when they released the device, by providing fast updates for 18 months and not drop support for this clearly capable device. This could easily effect all of you in the future just like Moto is trying to do to these devices if we don't call Lenovo/Moto on their clear violation of what they stated previously as if they get away with this, what is to stop them from providing updates for any other device in a far shorter time span than promised.
Part of the beauty of Moto devices was the promise of a near stock Android experience with fast updates for an 18 month period, this is one of the reasons many of us purchased these devices over other choices that were available, we should hold Moto to what they sold us on and letting them get away with not doing that now will likely mean other devices will be dropped before their time in the future.
As of this posting, we have over 680 supporters and could still use everyone's support.
I thank you in advance for your assistance. Feel free to share this link in any appropriate group or community you chose.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has signed the petition... We have exceeded the 1000 signature milestone and received confirmation this be a featured story on at least major Android news outlet in the coming days.
I am still requesting everyone to actively sign the petition.
Again, thank you.

Hola Im Jose! Originally from Mexico City but now a citizen of the world. I came here by 1st time back in 2007 to find how to upgrade Windows Mobile onto my beloved and actually working HTC Universal, always loved HTC phones and became more active in XDA. With some time started to write some of the 1st news for the recent launch of XDA Portal, lately was invited to be part of the Mods team in which i had a blast of fun!, I was there to meet in person the mighty old-timer Mods and Devs back in Texas on the infamous Android BBQ 1st editions.
On that time I was so active that some called me "spammer". Getting to the first places of post numbers on XDA....
I quit my regular job back in Mexico and decided to travel the world!, that was when i lowered down my activity in the forums due to obvious reasons...
Then pandemic came and i found myself unemployed and with no chances to travel for the time being....
So.... Im back!!!
Beware high posters, Im coming after you to get my place back!
Looking fwd to engage again with old time amigos around the forums and also to understand the new XDA.
