Hello everyone, im fairly new to the rooting scene and I had a question about CMW. I would like to apologize in advance if the question appears to be off-topic.
Anyways after rooting my GT-N7000 and installing CWM, I wanted to backup my current stock rom before trying out the Jelly Bean AOKP ROM. I found a tutorial that explains the proper way of backing up your phone. So i followed them and powered off my phone, held Up volume, home and power buttons, however unlike in the tutorial video ClockWorkMod recovery didn't show up on my screen but the stock Android recovery did. I would like to know if I made a mistake during the rooting process, or is smth wrong with my phone?
Can somebody please take the time and answer this n00bie question because I wanna try out new roms as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance.
I have included a picture of how my screen looks like when I followed the aforementioned instruction.

first of all, what ROM are you currently on?, second... It might be my browser or me but I can't seem to find your picture on your post above....
Just to verify, no picture available.

It may be that you have root, but you do not have CWM. You can use Mobile Odin to load safe kernel (Speedmod, Notecore, Hydracore). You can also upload a secure kernel using Odin PC, but you will have a yellow triangle, which can be removed TriangleAway.apk downloaded from market. This way you get full root and CWM.

In on a stock ICS ROM 4.0.3 by Samsung, rooted of course, as for the picture here it is I can't post a direct link and the picture insert doesn't work , so I inserted it as an attachment.
Same was my issue, i rooted my phone and i thought i csn directly install cwm from app store and can flash roms. But installing kernels is something i cant take risk . My note has that emmc cap brick bug.

You've got root ok, just flash hydracore kernel which has cwm in built. Flash with mobile odin and you shouldn't raise flash counter, even if you do you can use triangle away to remove, then you're set to go.

If you have rooted and on a stock kernel.. then installing new roms are of a greater risk as this involves full wipe.. which triggers the erase...
its best to flash the hydracore latest version 5.1 using mobile odin... as this has latest version of CWM and is safe for wipes.. do a nandroid backup in recovery and then u good for other roms
With the root files which I downloaded from downloadandroidrom.com was included the franco kernel which upon flashing grants permanent CWM recovery.
Hope it helped.

OK I bought an used Captivate is firmware is 2.3.3
baseband i897uckf1
Kernel 2.6.35.7-i897uckf1-cl273832
build.number gingerbread. Uckf1
My problem is that I think it's rooted but no superuser.apk. so I downloaded it from the market, but it tells me that the binary is outdated. I tried to update the binary but su force closed. I tried super one click method, also many other ways to root but when I got into recovery there's no options for reinstall package . Also it doesn't have the 3 button combo to boot into recovery. So I want to go back to stock and go from there and see if I can root and start using custom roms. What can I do? Wolf's toolbox already soft bricked my brothers captivate so any options so I don't go blind here.?

I would use odin to put the phone on a stock firmware. I've done this on an epic 4G, a sister to the captivate . I'm sure there's a guide to use odin and stock firmware somewhere on the forum. After its stock reroot and blah blah etc. That way you know everything is done right if you did it yourself.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
ok but do i need any boot loaders? because i read that going from gingerbread to stock you need bootloaders.
also theres 3 stocks f6, h2, h3 so which one is the safest one to flash? i really dont want to brick the phone
You already have gingerbread bootloaders so you don't need to touch them (its safer to not mess with bootloaders). If your looking for gingerbread stock its KH3 use this one with no bootloaders http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269524

OK thanx for that now with my problem rooting the phone. Theres no option for reinstall packages and when i try to update the binaries it FC, What can I doo to root and flash Roms? Thanx again
If your going to Flash a ROM on it there is no need to Root.

Im kinda confused..... in order to flash the rom I need rom manager and ton use rom manager I need root permissions so, any other way?????
Man thanx alot, I flash H3 and my recovery changed, I'm such a dumbass, well trial and error as they say, right. Many many thnx.
If you follow the link captain Nero gave you it is to an Odin packaged GB ROM. You don't use room manager for this, you flash you're phone using Odin from a widows computer.
Also you don't need root to flash with Odin.

Yes my bad, I meant custom roms, because when I booted into recovery before flashing the GB Rom from the link, all I got was the original recovery as I posted on the photo. But now thanx to you guys everything is up and running. Again many thanx
Just use a kernel with CWM cooked with it. You can use Boog's KH3 cwm kernel or Design Gear's KF1 cwm Kernel (step 2)
After the last ICS leak yesterday came out for the Samsung I9220 Galaxy Note,
we now come with the first ICS leak for the Galaxy Note N7000.
The Galaxy Note N7000 is more popular than the I9220.
This is of course because the I9220 is actually only for the Chinese market.
Luckily we got our hands on the first ICS ROM for the Galaxy Note N7000.
This ROM is based on Android 4.0.3 firmware number as N7000XXLP1
We expect this ROM will still have many bugs.
Especially since this is the first leak.
BEcause this is a CUSTOM rom your CUSTOM binary will walk.
Below are all our screenshots plus a little video of the rom …
If you want to talk about this firmware you can do so through our forums.
Downloading is also ony via our forum topic.
On our FW page you only can find OFFICIAL firmwares by Samsung.
This rom is a early CUSTOM rom by Samsung based on Android 4.0.3.
Samsung did the same by the Galaxy S II. (I9100XXLP1 – I9100XXLP2 both CUSTOM by Samsung.)

hi, how to install this rom safely?
I'm on the cinese rooted+cwm one now, is it worth to flash this?
So if im reading correctly, this is a different rom to the chinese yesterday ??
Because this rom here is on sammfirmware for the i9220, yet you say its not for that phone, so you can see why the confusion, so any further info would be appreciated, as i suspect this is just the same rom that chain repacked ?

Use mobile odin - this is not a CWM zip as far as I can see.
So, can this be updated with CWM without losing root and keeping CWM?
I'm guessing:
1. Update ROM using CWM but keep old kernel.
2. Update Kernel using CF-Root kernel LP1.
Will that work??

I use the original rom and I really don't know how to find "lagfix" original for my phone anywhere. Now I need a solution to get back capacity. Pls.
That is the problem, lagfix goes on custom kernels and roms. You must install original rom again, i don't think that you can just uninstall lagfix.
You need stock rom for you tab. Try to search around so you can find it. Also you need the correct PIT file to reformat your partitions and restore your storage space.

I did go back from CM 10.1.2 to a stock 4.0.4 ROM. But now I'm unable to 'browse for a zip file' on the sdcard in the stock recovery.
-I did a factory reset + \data & \system format in the CWM recovery
-I installed the Samsung P7310XXLPP_P7310PHNLP1_PHN stock rom with Odin 3.0.7
-In the stock recovery when I try to "apply update from external storage" I got an error
Does somebody know what is causing the error and how I can fix it?

There is no possibility to install zips with stock recovery on any 4.0.4. It worked only on 3.x. You need to flash CWM/TWRP to install updates. After you've done with root/updates, you can restore stock recovery back, but it still won't be able to flash anything.

You can get original stock ROMs from : sammobile.com/firmware
Type on dailer *#1234# to see your current AP, CSC and MODEM version. Notice or note your AP,CSC and MODEM version (you need it if you want your original firmware back)
If you want your original stock ROM back then go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ type your noticed version in the fields (PDA, CSC, MODEM) and download it. done!
Check Screenshot!
Note : you need a SamMobile account for downloading firmwares
Thanks! One more question, I have read that the kernel also changes when I flash CM11, if I would like to revert to Stock do which file is the kernel? Is it the PDA, CSC or Modem? I'm now downloading my stock rom from sammobile thanks to you!

In PDA
if you install a custom recovery example TWRP or CWM then you're able to backup your current Stock ROM and safe it on your PC, laptop or external SD card till you want it back . If you want your Stock ROM back then you can simple restore it via custom recovery
Note : a backup of the Stock ROM take very often more than 2GB!
Good luck with flashing
