Now that the stock chrome browser no longer supports flash, I wanted to set the user agent to iPad to avoid mobile site and to play html5 video. Chrome perfectly supports html5 video, so here's how to change the user agent:
Do this using a rooted device and an explorer with superuser rights:
Allow to see hidden files through Explorer
Navigate to Device root/data/local
Make a new file (with no extension), or do this on a computer and transfer the file, called "chrome-command-line"
Fill the file with the following :
chrome --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B334b Safari/531.21.10"
(Setting the user agent to iPad)
For other agents replace by the following :
Desktop Chrome: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_3) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.151 Safari/535.19
Desktop Safari: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_3) AppleWebKit/534.53.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1.3 Safari/534.53.10
iPhone Safari: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543 Safari/419.3
iPad Safari: Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B334b Safari/531.21.10
Thanks to the person who posted this, and I'm just sharing it with you guys.
Thanks for this, I'm trying it now.

Thanks for posting this. Trying with your standard ipad user string. Hulu is working! I rarely use Hulu but it is a good test because it notoriously doesn't work on anything. Only slight downside is that if you click the icon to go full screen you get a message saying "Sorry, this video cannot be played." Not the best but seeing as how I couldn't play them at all before this is a huge improvement.
Tip: whatismyuseragent.com will tell you for sure what agent your browser is reporting. Also be sure you've closed all browser sessions.

You could try different unmentioned user agent strings for iPad and/iPhone and test those.

Thanks. Just tried them all and I think ipad works best with hulu. That said, I set it back to stock for now. I just renamed the file and restarted chrome. Easy to reverse if I want to try this again.
Here are a couple other user agents if people want to try them:
Chrome in Windows 7:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/22.0.1229.79 Safari/537.4
Chrome in iPhone iOS 6:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/534.46.0 (KHTML, like Gecko) CriOS/21.0.1180.82 Mobile/10A403 Safari/7534.48.3
Is possible for this to be made into a flashable?

It can be more than just HTML video watching. Many sites optimize for ipad so it renders nicely on their screen. While leaving anything else that's not a windows/osx/Linux browser with a horrible mobile site.
I have played with it before and it makes a lot of web pages easier to use with touch

Chrome has a lot of powerful tools, why would you change browsers if you can tweak this one to make it perfect?!

Has anyone tried this yet? Been using since last night and I have to say... wow. It's what the android browser should've been. Opera 10 was smooth, but this is even better with flash support now. Runs buttery smooth (iPhone like... smoother than any other android browser) even when I'm underclocked to 800mhz =)
Yes, better than the laggy stock browser, more smooth and support flash, for me the better mobile browser with safari.
you know yes....! Opera - need to be original browser in Nexus S
I'm liking it a lot more.
Tried it and uninstalled within half an hour, word-breaking for Thai characters looks terrible. Super lag compared to Dolphin Mini & stock browser...
I dont seem to get any reactions to anything I touch on webpages:S?
Wait reboot and fix permissions sorted it...BEST BROWSER TO DATE! I use the psx scene site as a benchmark which one dolphin and stock lags like a *****! On opera its perfect..very very smooth!
To enable desktop view:
opera:config>UserPref>Custom User>Agent-Agent>Type:Opera/9.80 (Linux; en) Presto/2.7.81 Version/11.00 >Scroll down the list untill you find the save icon (quite a way down the expanded user pref list) then restart and there you go
I have to agree. Opera 11 is awesome. (click for browser shootout)
dude is fantastic! !!!!
Thanks for this! I was wondering how to get the full engadget site to show. =)

I've just tried the V11 and ... WOW :O
Absolutely perfect, lighteningly fast, no checkerboards at all, no lag, etc... The fastest browser I've ever seen.
The best mobile browser ever!!
Thanks to Opera team for this fantastic work on Android.

that's true!!!! I hope Cyanogen gonna change original stock laggy browser, for beautiful and performance Opera 11.
I love this browser as well, but some of the pages don't look like they should. Like m.db.no and mobil.aftenposten.no. (these pages are in Norwegian, but you'll see what I'm talking about). Any tips? I would like the mobile version, not the desktop one.
Edit: the m.db.no seems to be working as it should now, but what I wrote still holds true for mobil.aftenposten.no.

It's the old-mobile version of Google. You have to change your user-agent to default Android browser or iPhone browser etc. to see proper mobile version of Google.
what should I put for the user agent in the opera:config to get the android user agent?

Ya that is quite nice. I've used previous versions and none of them were quite perfect but this might just do the trick. Its quite a nice piece of kit, if I'm honest. I use Bank of America and can't use their mobile site in my area or even load their full site on the standard browser for reasons unknown to God himself but this using the spoofing lets me do just that which makes it completely worth its weight in Gold.
The lack of a user-agent preference in the settings area is a big downside. The browser's fast, but that's a setting that should be easily accessible. Going to the config page address and what-not is a pain in the ass.
I had an I pad for a while but the lack of being able to do any type of file manipulation or use flash is maddening. If anyone used the netflix AP originally, you may have noticed that it was the html 5 version of the site. Recently that changed, so I do not know if anyone has a way of testing this. Since the android browser supports html 5 we are able to visit the netflix website and use it normally until you get to actually watching a video. Since someone was able to get flash plugin to work with netflix, maybe its posibble to see how and why netflix works through safari on the Ipad. If the html 5 version of the site could be tricked or not is beyond me. Just throwing this out there to see if it sticks to anyone.

The android app (http://mcdn.netflix.com/us/mobile/android/45/netflix-45-release.apk) also is just a web interface but the actual video playback requires a native library (which doesn't support Xoom) as I'm sure the iPad and PS3 app does as well. You can browse the various netflix mobile sites with any browser.

It is the same as what you see on the iPad
I didn't think about having to develop it for the tegra until now. Hopefully with the glut of tegra devices we will see it shortly. I hope the tegra is capable of the same type of device encryption as the revolution. I don't know if the device encryption within the xoom is honeycomb or the xoom itself.

let's see what's new..!
EDIT: something tells me that it'll be 2.3.3 (Android 2.3.3; zh-hk; LT15i Build/3.0.1.A.0.126)
search google for 3.0.1.A.0.126 and you'll see
Another one added 3rd May 2011
Is it on SEUS already?
Nop, but I guess it will be in the next 10 days!
something tells me that it'll be 2.3.3 (Android 2.3.3; zh-hk; LT15i Build/3.0.1.A.0.126)
Is this a hong kong firmware?
2.3.3 won't surprise me, the N1 and NS are getting 2.3.4 in the coming weeks
The site also makes mention of a '3.0.A.2.182' firmware version.
I don't remember seeing that mentioned around here, I was just wondering if anyone else had and I'd just missed it.
Also, I'm curious as to the nomenclature SE employ for their firmware versions - this new one has an extra decimal place, so to speak, which I'm curious about.

If memory serves, a couple of Arcs were pictured running 2.4 at the likes of CES and MWC.
It was sort of concluded that either it's some sort of messed up name and 2.4 will never exist or that it will still be Gingerbread in the same way that 2.0 and 2.1 were both Éclair.
Does anyone think this update will disable the current Gingerbreak hack?
In my experience with SE updates they made it impossible to hack Satio&Vivaz firmwares
First let's get this update;-)

All I want is to have the HD video recording freezing/sound sync issue fixed... its the most annoying bug in the phone till now!!!
May depend on the SD .... I've heard of some people who have had this problem with other SD ....
what Sd you use?
We used to record in 720p with the N1 without lag, but again audio was horrible and perhaps SE is using higher video bitrate...

I have tried class 2 4 and 6 they all have the same result
I think its a RAM allocation issue cuz if u try to record after u reboot the device then there is no freezing , But after u use the device for a while the freezing happens again.
I hope this firmware will fix this because I also find it, that the voice isynt sync with movie... unless SE fix the problem with draining battery, I will sell this stupid phone:-\ I cant understand how SE could started selling Arc with so many issues:-\

Maybe I should have clarified. I am looking at purchasing a tablet that will support Internet Explorer 8 for work purposes. The web program we use is only compatible with IE8 (not IE9 or any other web browser). I would like to get the tablet through Verizon to have the 3G/4G service when Wi-Fi is not available. Does anyone know if the Samsung Galaxy Tablet, the iPad2 or any other tablet they offer could be rooted to allow IE8 as the web browser instead of the factory installed web browsing system?

Is not posible, IE8 is for Windows. Android and IOS have a full diferent system.
And even if you bought a tablet thats compatible with Win8 (WeTab etc.) It will not run an "old" IE8... so most liekly no IE8 on a Tab

I have a LUmia 520 build update
You could probably charge me 50 bucks for this app and I would buy it. I really like my WP compared to the other two alternatives. But I absolutely have to have full blown firefox with adblocker on my phone. Heck I might pay as much as 100 bucks.
Get a kickstarter going and I will donate and link it everywhere. This project must happen.
hope it goes ahead with the project!

I would use over Edge any day. This project has to happen.

I do know how to convert the ipa file to an appx file! I am testing the app and it works great! I am working in the app to run on PCs and tablets!
This thread needs to be moved into the Windows 10 Mobile forums! So many people that this would be of interest to, will not get the chance to see it if it stays here.
