Without the stagefright tweak you can go up to 1800 . Just need to run the test few times And hope for the best. Also you can go with the stagefright tweak to 2500

Reliable ones? Benchmarks only test a specific workload.. You aren't testing how fast applications run, you are testing how fast the benchmark runs. There doesn't have to be a direct correlation

If there had been no correlation then benchmarks wouldn't have been used at all, that's not accurate.

You can easily get over 3000 with an ext2 loopback ontop of ext4 plus an overclock. But that's beside the point.
What matters is how it feels and performs day to day, that's more personal opinion. Quadrant is virtually useless IMO.
If you want a "true" quadrant score for what the Galaxy S is capable of without cheating/overclocking, you're probably looking at between 1600-1800 depending on ROM and filesystem.

I never said there wasn't. But, benchmarks are useless unless you actually know what you are testing..
Case in point, you have 1 program that does lots of writing (barely any reading), and a benchmark program.
If you increase reading speed by 6%, but decrease writing speed by 5%, a benchmark which treats reading and writing equally will give you a better score. Unfortunately, your app will be slower though. Of course, an increase in both will lead to a faster score, but so can other circumstances.
Most benchmarks aren't useless to everyone. Only to MOST users. Developers on the other hand who understand the benchmark and what they are optimising for, maybe would find them more useful..
In-game benchmarks although are useful out of the box, because they test performance of a specific workload/benchmarks. Every time someone optimises their phone to run a generic benchmark though, a kitten dies.

I just flashed and here are my results:
OC 1.5Ghz

im sure Sense brings it down alot...I was able to get ~3200 on the stock skyrocket.

Now don't take this the wrong way, I love my htc phones. But if you really want to see some blazing quadrant scores pick up an atrix, put cm7 on it with faux kernel and o/c it and you will be pushing close to 5000 if not over. I wish I had some pics of the one I had, the thing was crazy fast. I have up an international sgs2 and kept the atrix because it was so much faster.
I am stunned that the vivid score is so low being o/c so high, mine is the att version so I can't really enjoy playing with it like others can but my amaze running the stock kernel at 1.5GHz only gets to around 2770 at its highest. If I didn't love sense so much I'd flash a rom that doesn't have it just to see how much faster it is.

this is crap, on my HTC EVO 3D with Ziggys kernel at 1.7GHz ive gotten quadrant scores of 4500, and on Anthrax kernel at 1.67 GHz ive gotten antutu scores of 6500 and the kernel is just in beta stages

[Q] My x8 is no more. Help me find a replacement...

Well, this morning i accidentally drove over my x8 (it fell out of my pocket and I didn't notice...) and it's kaput.
So, I'm looking to buy a used replacement for it - I'm on o2 network in the UK,
I have around £60 to spend on a replacement. What do you recommend as a good phone?
Is an Xperia X10 a good upgrade from an X8? What about custom roms - I'm hoping to get a phone with a better camera, and witha faster processor.
Up until this morning I was running my x8 with Alfs c09c and GingerDX v30.
Any advice greatfuly appreciated.

Tipo? Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman is beter and cost about the same as tipo.
Anyway xperia x10 is good but indeed outdated phone. It has little ram and it doesn't support even real dual touch. If I were you, I would search for some newer device.

If you're looking for something in the same price range, go for the Xperia Mini. And your reply to Gogeta was rude, considering the fact that he was right posting what he posted regarding the placement of this thread.

I don't think I was rude to be honest. It's a general question, not a specific question about X8. Never mind, I'm not going to get involved in a discussion about placement of threads. I even invited a mod to move it if he/she saw fit to do so. Didn't think much of Gogetas "banghead" either - I thought that was a tad rude.

that is exactly what I am planning to do once I qualify for my upgrade from O2 in a few months! In the meantime, I'll see if I can root it and boot it. (What's the best rom for x10 mini?) yes I need to ask in the other forum for fear of being banned...

I think you can as save your cash now and depend on some old phone lying around your house and when your money increase a bit more you can buy newer phone.I think thats better than buying a phone a lot worse and outdated than X8 and wasting your money.

tipo is a decent phone, 800 MHz, 512 RAM, crappy camera. If you want a better camera consider buying miro or get second hand Samsung Galaxy S.

Got my bargain basement x10 mini today. It's now running GingerDXv30 on Naa kernel. Works well, and this one overclocks to 787 without fc-ing.
Screen size is a bit small compared to x8, but I can get used to that. Camera is much better than x8 also, and has a led flash.
I think I actually prefer it to the x8 at the moment.

Its not the GDDR type since that is used on graphics card and cost a fortune compared to normal DDR type.
It would be DDR2 or DDR3 but i think i read somewhere on the forums it uses DDR3

It uses the APQ8064 S4 pro, the chipset information states this in the memory section :
Dual-channel 533 MHz (8.5 GB/sec)

DDR3 it is.

Wrong, its LPDDR2 I believe.
As far as I'm aware, S600 is the first to support DDR3.

There is no mention on the White paper or the User manual or the website that the RAM is DDR3, so I would not think it was (considering afaik S4Pro supports only DDR2 ram).
If the Z was DDR3 they would tout it as a feature since it would be the first DDR3 phone.
Hence my belief it is not. If you find documentation that states otherwise then let me know. But for now I will believe it is DDR2.

Either way. for the 8.5 GB/sec its either using the high-end DDR2 memory or Low end DDR3, you cant go wrong with either.

Has nothing to do with high end or low end.
It simply means that the ram is at 5xxmhz

The Xperia Z has LPDDR2 (LP = Low Power) like most smartphones today. No smartphones are using LPDDR3 today, but it is expected that Samsung will be the first (or one of the first) to use it this year (GS4 maybe?), and LPDDR4 for tablets will be on the market in 2014.

Yes, it has been confirmed that Galaxy S4 uses LPDDR3 RAM. It seems to be the first phone to use one, even though HTC One uses S600 but I read it somewhere that it uses LPDDR2. But for Xperia Z, it's a no go for LPDDR3 as the chip doesn't support it.
For me S4 is no CM friendly but you can expected long support from Samsung like S2.
One is CM friendly but software features and hardware specs are below S4.
Xperia Z is the least interesting of all both hardware and software but it can play with me in the bath. I might go with it.

Galaxy S4 does indeed use LPDDR3:

How fast is this phone??

Hi, I really fancy getting this phone due to its form factor, but all the reviews seem to disagree about its performance. Antutu scores (around 13500) suggest it should be much faster than snapdragon devices but some reviews say it's average....Confused!
Anyone give me some real life impressions of how fast it is? (my other options are the big boys, htc one x etc... Not sure about size)
Also do you think Cm 10.1 will arrive eventually after x86 issues are solved?

Not sure about CM 10.1 but dang, this phone is fast! Been using it for months now and it litteraly flies. And that is without the upgrade to JB even.
Testers from this forum found it as fast the Samsung Galaxy S3 so don't worry about the speed.

I agree. I'm not rooted and have ICS and I find this phone faster than any other I've had (recently Desire and Desire S)
Yes, using stock launcher can be a bit laggy sometimes but I use Holo Launcher and it's totally lag free!

I own a razr i and its the fastest phone ever seen....

Hello ALL did you discover lags, slowdown between screens after update ? JB on my mobile (xt890) working so slow. I don't know what is the problem. I didn't do factory reset after update. What you thinking, that could be a problem? I started using difference launcher (NOVA) and seem my problem gone in 80% because I really like Motorola's launcher with amazing circles widget.

The first thing I'll do after updating to JB is to factory reset the phone as I'm sure that this resets everything and should stop any problems left over from the previous operating system.

My RAZR i is running stock JB and I get a split second of lag when going back to the home screen from an app. I think that the launcher doesn't keep in memory like the ones you get from play store. So it has to reopen the launcher when you go home. Not a big deal. As far as speed, I get over 4100 in quadrant. Beats out the Asus transformer and matches the one x (according to quadrant) so yeah. Fast fast. Love this phone.

Benchmarks are just theoretical and its all about how fast the phone appears to the user.
Perception is reality after all!
And on that scale the RAZR I is up there with the best. I cant make out any difference to any of the Android flagships that I have tried over the last few months.

Thank you for the great replies, it sounds like it performs way above its mid range billing. I get the feeling that a lot of the online reviews try to compare it with the likes of the gs3, when it's real competition like the HTC one s seems at least a little slower, has no memory expansion and it's way more expensive at the minute.
There are some great deals on it at the moment, so I'll go for it. Just have to hope it ships on jelly bean. I'm sure I'll be around the forum a bit once I get it, everyone seems really helpful. Thanks
