If I do a factory reset in recovery while safe system is enabled, does that only reset the Rom on that side of the partition? Or does it reset the other side where I have 232 installed (safe system disabled) as well?
A little background: I was having issues on 232 with reboots after a month or so so I decided to give liquid a shot which seems ok so far.
Any help would be appreciated.

No, anything you do to the safe side only effects the safe side.

Thanks. So would it help at all to do a factory reset on the 232 side? Does that side serve as the base for the Rom?

I think the main thing that is used from the "non-safe" side on the "safe-side" is the kernel. I was having some problems with 232 and did a factory reset and it helped, but you will loose all of apps and data, even safestrap. You will have to install it again and flash a ROM to your "safe-side" again because it will delete the preinstall where your "safe system" is stored.

No prob. There are a few new CM10 and AOKP based Jelly Bean builds that are pretty stable and very fast if you're looking for some new ROMs. I running AOKP and loving it.

Question. If I nandroid on the safe side, factory reset on the 232 side. A) will I lose root B) if I won't lose root can I just factory reset, reinstall safestrap go to safe mode then restore the current nandroid?

A) No you won't loose root.
B) I'm pretty sure you can restore a current nandroid.
Just make sure you don't restore a "safe" backup to the "non safe" side, and if you are going to try out Jelly Bean on your safe side make sure to format "/system" along with wiping when coming from ICS.

Try rebooting into safestrap and clearing cache, clearing dalvik cache, and fix permissions. Then reboot. It will take a couple of minutes for it to reboot the first time you reboot.

No, the only time you should format /system is when you are flashing a new ROM on the "safe side", and NEVER on the "non safe" side.

And always remember to keep a good backup of the "non safe" side! I have had a couple of stupid moments when I accidentally formatted the system on the non safe side and having a good backup saved me a lot of trouble.

Alright. When I did the factory reset it removed all those apps like lets golf etc that are pre installed. Is that going to cause any issues fxz'ing back?
Also, do I just follow the steps like in this guide to FXZ back?

Hey guys,
I have a nexus one currently running cm7 rc1.
I heard that rc2 came out.
Is there anyway that I could upgrade to rc2 without loosing anything that I currently have on rc1?
What do I do? Could I use rom manager?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Just flash it over but do a backup first just in case.
Yes, just use ROM Manager to flash to RC2, just don't do a factory reset / wipe and all your settings and apps will carry over.
Depending on what kid of user you are, you may also want to look at Titanium Backup, its a pretty amazing tool. It has a slight learning curve but it really lets you take control of what you want to carry over from one build to the next, specially when you are going between different rom products that require a complete wipe
Soooo, all I have to do is to download the rom and gapps, and only do a backup- no wipe. After I do that will I have the same layout as rc1 but it will be rc2?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes, but be careful, flashing can be habit forming and RC's are a gateway drug. You'll be a crackflasher in no time.

Should we wipe to move from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
You shouldn't need to wipe whenever you move minor versions, but it doesn't always work perfectly, and sometimes you end up needing to wipe anyway. Always nandroid, just in case something ends up going wrong on the new install.
So in cwm I forgot to clear the cache and factory reset when I installed a new rom (from 2.3 to 4.0) but I did not get a bootloop. So the phone is working, should I still reinstall and clear it?

I'd still recommend doing a full wipe.
You don't want to get in some sort of trouble in the future and think... Would this issue not occur if I wiped clean?...

You can use stock kernel and overclock at the same time.
I finally tried it last night but I.got stuck in a loop I believe.. I tried flashing thriller.. lucky I installed cwm recovery and had backed up my last phone. When I flash a.new Rom do I have to return the phone to factory settings? The tutorial I was using was for the old version on cwm recovery and didn't translate to the new one so I basically had to make an educated guess.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
This is exactly what I did. I installed cwm recovery. I.backed up my phone. I downloaded the thriller zip. Connected my.phone to computer and cut and pasted the thriller zip folder onto my SD card. I booted in cwm recovery. And clicked install from SD I found the thriller Rom and downloaded it. Once it was done I clicked re booted normally and when I did this it only showed a bunch of colors coming.g together into and x and did that for 10 minutes until I booted into cwm recovery again and restored from my latest back up. Anything I did wrong or didn't do? Any help would be appreciated.

Extremely unnecessary wipes.
Factory reset does these three things.
Wipes /data
Wipes /cache
Wiping dalvik-cache is useless in a factory reset as "dalvik-cache" is stored in "/data".
OK so from your experience am I doing it right except for the factory wipe? Or are the wipes unnecessary? Thanks for the print responses too!
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
Its important to know what version software your running. I believe the thriller rom only works on android software version 2.2 aka froyo. If your phone is running 2.3 gingerbread that would be the reason why the rom didn't work. Check in settings>aboutthisphone>androidversion to see which software you've got. I'm relatively new to all this also but I hope I helped

I'd suggest always doing a wipe when going from ROM to ROM.
This is how I do my wipes.
NANDROID current ROM
Flash new ROM
If I even see one force close, I factory reset.
@lestat.. but when I do wipe it.. doesn't it wipe the SD card too? Like when I hit factory settings does it clear SD as well?

You'll have to try the ROMs for yourself. I can't say for myself as a dev.
I personally like thrill seeker. The original developer had to give up on it because he's been busy, but another dev (Bdadd34) has picked it up and is continuing to work on it. I like it because its stable and very simple to flash and I don't have to flash to a different baseband (which I've never tried). Also from reading on here for a while I know lestat's acidhazard rom is a favorite among most not only for the thrill here in the US, but also for a lot O3D users. His is a rom kitchen so you pretty much build the rom with features you want. its still a little over my head but lestat has a great reputation on here for being super helpful. I'm sure he'd explain it much better or just check out his website which I'm sure a link is in the post for his rom.

I'm using Dark's acidhazard rom with acura's beast 1.3 extreme low voltage kernel. I have no complaints and the support from dark is incredible. I'm on v20p too and I haven't experienced any ghost calls yet. *knocks on wood* I would definitely recommend acid hazard..

Did you use one of the ics-leak specific builds of CM9 and install safestrap 2.0 after you installed .232? If not, you need to do that. Also, you should wipe the cache and dalvik cache again, maybe even just do another factory reset/wipe from safestrap. Also, often when installing a new rom, it will go to the black screen on the first boot up and you may have to do a battery pull, and the second try will work.
Yeah I didn't download the leak version lol. I'm a noob to the bionic lol

Did you follow the directions word for word? As stated above some roms require you to do certain things to get beyond certain points. I have yet to install an ICS ROM as I'm quite happy with .232. Every so often we think we follow directions down to the "t" but we miss 1 little step. I do it all the time and I am not new to flashing new roms/leaks etc...You just gotta go back and retrace your steps and see where you might have gone wrong. I know I've read some of the steps for one of the rom and the spot you're at seems like the point where you need to do a battery pull as suggested.
I overlooked the whole leak rom thing lol. I'm back on .232 cm9 wasn't really as smooth for me as the leak .232

I read all that last night - also droidforums.net. There was never a solution beyond reflash, and nobody ever reported back if they were able to solve it. I don't recall having this problem with Safestrap 1.08 when I tried Liberty before.
Oh well. I'll keep playing around. I tried the vending.apk from Maverick 4.5 but that didn't seem to help either. I also tried turning ads back on in ROM Toolbox. It may be time to go through build.prop or something.

Ok, I got it working. What worked for me is to skip the initial setup of Liberty by doing the four corner trick (i.e, on the "touch the Droid to begin" screen, touch the four corners of the touchable display in the order upper left, upper right, lower right, and lower left; this will skip the setup steps and bring you straight to the home screen). Touching the market after that asks you to log in to a Google account, and this successfully starts the market/play store without a force close.
Breaking my usual rule of not changing two things at once, I also switched from the first ROM slot to my third (I have three slots.) I doubt that made a difference, though.

Hmm, that could be why. I always skip setup via 4 corners, although back when liberty first came out I probably didn't. Although it could be coincidence, as stated in the thread, it seemed kinda random, appearing for some, and being fixed via multiple reflashing.
I've been giving some consideration to going back to liberty for awhile, switch it up. I'll put it to the test if i do

Oh well. I'll keep playing around. I tried the vending.apk from Maverick 4.5 but that didn't seem to help either. I also tried turning ads back on in ROM Toolbox. It may be time to go through build.prop or something.

I flashed it with safestrap 3.5 and everything works perfect for me. Are you sure you guys used the right gapps? Everything works on my phone.
P.S.......And thanks for updating Liberty to work with Safestrap 3.5..........

Oh, cool. I'm just used to flash my own GApps with Liberty, like before.
Weird, not sure why people are having an issue with it then?

You only need to flash GApps on aosp based roms like cm and aokp. This is due to legal issues, android is open source, gapps are not. Since liberty is heavily modified blur base rather than being compiled from source, gapps are included.

Thanks, I'll have to keep that in mind. I'm not sure if there's anything in a CyanogenMod Gapps that would be bad for Liberty.
Anyway, the four corners trick works, and everything else in setup is easy to re-do. Restoring apps and WiFi access points I do with Titanium anyway, so I don't need to restore from Google.
I have to say that I set this up but went back to Minimoto because I was traveling and I wanted to have a known-good setup. I'll restart with Liberty in a day or two and see how things go.
