[Q] SGS i9000 can't read sim and no IMEI? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My SGS can't recognize the sim card and has no IMEI number. I am not running on any rom but the official gingerbread. I have not used this phone for a very long time like about 5 months or more but the last time it works fine. There is also an instance that i activated the flight mode thinking it will fix the problem but it won't deactivate so i factory reset it and still can't recognize my sim. So how do i fix this?

Try to flash any rom which has modem part separately. AFAIK it's problem with modem.

insert the SIM card in the proper direction, if that was not the problem check out My Android Solutions

I installed root explorer and looked at the efs files all files are still there. This is not rooted so what else are the solutions?

1) clean Sim Contacts, insert sim in correct direction
2) use a rescue kit from My Android Collections

I already tried the 1st one but the second one i dont know which should i use? i don't know why the imei is not there but the efs files are complete on the root? BTW thanks

Reflash stock rom
I lost my IMEI when flashing a Jelly Bean ROM and was ready to chuck the phone away. I learned the hard way to always back up /efs
A few people reported that the IMEI can be restored by flashing a stock ROM, so I tried using Odin and these instructions to restore Android 2.3.6
Search for droidangel.blogspot.se/2012/01/i9000xxjvu-android-236-upgrade. I am not allowed to post links on these forums yet.
It worked fine and then I reflashed to CM10 (this time saving /efs first) and the second time it worked.
If all else fails then flashing the stock ROM might work for you. The only frustrating part is waiting half an hour between downloads of the files you need.
ps
Xsenman has all the files you need via the links he gave in the post above, just follow the instruction. The phone is useless as it is so you do not have much to loose. It is possible to hand edit the IMEI files with a hex editor to use a generic Samsung IMEI, but that is a more complex approach as you have to root the phone first.

Read the EFS problems and solutions link, in My Android Solutions to see, how you can make it stick, in case its lost after reboots

it says Restore actual IMEI. This requires that you previously backed up your /efs folder. Restoring this is documented better and more thoroughly elsewhere. I went into my /efs backup folder and copied nv_data.bin to /efs. This is easy with Root Explorer. Press the filename, select copy, navigate back up and to /efs. At the top of the screen, click Mount R/W. Delete everything in there (menu, multi-select, select all, delete). Paste the file. Long press the file, change permissions. Make it 644 (Owner is Read+Write, others are Read), save. Long press again, scroll toward bottom of menu and Change Ownership. Make it Radio (1001) and Radio (1001), save. Click to Mount R/O and exit. Does He mean that i need my original efs what is i didn't saved it?

Have you read this so saving/backup your EFS folder is a must when you want to use a custom ROM. why?

try to do the same process using Odin or use heimdall, download from My Android Collections
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card, after flashing and reboot , insert them back
Tips before Flashing:-
Backup all your important files, contacts, SMS, game data, images etc to PC or Ext SD card. or make Nanadroid Backup If you have CWM
Backup your EFS Folder to PC or Ext SD card
Enable USB Debugging on Phone. Touch menu> Settings> Applications> Development>
Charge your battery to more than 50% before you attempt any sort of flashing.
Disable Samsung KIES when using Odin. Kill Kies.exe, KiesTrayAgent.exe, & KiesPDLR.exe using Task Manager on PC
Use only ROM and solution for your model and Wipe x3

I can't restore now my IMEI. I followed this site http://srjraman.wordpress.com/2012/04/07/recover-fake-imei-and-restore-original-efs-galaxy-s/ so i could recover my original IMEI I choose the asia because I'm from the philippines but still no IMEI i tried another one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17587351#post17587351 put does not work also tried to flash to ezbase again but the imei is not recovered. Is there still another way?

[Q] Anyway to restore 100% stock

Please don't say Odin 1 click as it does not go 100% back to stock.
The nv_data.bin and bml3 device are not as stock. I have FFFFFFF where my unlock code used to be and my unlock code no longer works.
Master Clear and then JF6 restore doesn't change these either. I find it hard to believe there is no way to get 100% back to new.
Any ideas?

Well it seems like this Phone is a bit like windows 95 when it comes to wiping and reloading it. Bits and pieces of other installs are left over? Wish I knew how to help you. Perhaps someone out there has a completely stock nandroid they could send you. I know there's one for the Vibrant.

Why did you send it back? I am curious how the /EFS directory gets built - it stores the IMEI related stuff and lock code data, but it doesn't get wiped with a Odin full restore.
I would think that if you put your phone in recovery mode, there should be an option to format the internal sd card. After you do that, just do a factory reset, and then run Odin One-Click back to JF6
Edit: There's not even a need for recovery mode. Go to Settings > SD card and phone storage > and then under Internal SD card you'll see "Format SD card".

Format SD card only formats the ~14GB that acts as an SD card that the user has access to. The 2GB that makes up all the system partitions is not touched. Some of it is rewritten when you do 1 click install - but not all.
With JF6 your NV_data.bin is not created like the original and the IMEI and BT files are dated from June - so the EFS partition is never rewritten. Maybe if you delete it is recreated, but i doubt it.

I bricked mine trying to go to Froyo. They sent it back to me with JH7 so no go :/ Sorry.
did anybody try calling att if you are a att cust they will give you the code for free.
over on the i9000 forum they say when froyo first came out if you left your sim in the phone when you flashed it would relock your phone.
can anybody verify that if they goto froyo with a unlocked captivate without the sim do they still get locked.
if so it might be a measure to prevent people from messing with the beta to much

Actually I did try it. In July, they said wait 60 days. Yesterday they input my IMEI and their system told them that the phone can't be unlocked - due to AT&T exlusivity. i am in the process of escalating, but it is hard to say what will happen.
It certainly appears that it is not as simple as waiting 60 days.

I'm curious about this too...it seems that once you mod the phone in any way it's never 100% stock again. I wonder if having the SIM in when a mod is done has anything to do with it - does anyone know if the SIM can be written to and, if so, if anything is written to it during a mod?
I've tried everything possible to get this phone 100% stock again in an effort to get Kies Mini to STOP giving me the "unrecognized" error, including cleaning Windows registry and trying on my Windows XP Pro partition - no go. Something, somewhere, is providing information to Kies Mini.
---Edit---
Dumb question about writing to SIM; but question about something being written to it during a mod - if left in - still stands. Anyone?

The SIM can only hold contact data - and very limited amount. I can almost guarantee that nothing is written to the SIM card.
Is Kies not recognizing the phone is plugged in , or refusing to upgrade because it is the wrong type? Unrecognized device by keys is usually due to Samsung drivers and reinstalling them has helped me.
But it seems that the only way to revert to 100% stock is via Samsung repair service.

The installed ROM's were:

I also tried reinstalling these two, but had the same problems.
Has anyone found the solution to this problem?

So, No I have installed 2 more... and both have the same problem, is it my phone? Do I need to format the partitions better? What I have done is:
-Wiped data/factory reset
-Wiped cache partition
-Reset permission
Installed:
-cm-9.1.0-galaxysmtd
-cm-9-20120826-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd
-cm-7.2.0-galaxysmtd
As well as tried installing the cm-7.2.0-galaxysmtd mentioned above, not in all installations though.
I am located in Iceland... dont think that should play a part in it but perhaps I need to change some settings to find the networks?
Hope someone can help me with this... really is too bad not to have my "good phone" any more

Lucky me! I found a backup of my efs folder... what crazy luck! Im guessing that ClockworkMod Recovery auto backed up the efs folder.
But it was just like you said, the "My Android Solutions" pointed me to this thread which listed more than I expected of my problems.
Currently, my efs folder looks empty, but I think its just unmounted. How would I go about restoring the backup efs folder that I have? In "my android solutions", they suggest copy/paste via Root Explorer, followed by reboot and wipe cache, which I did without luck. The efs dir is still empty and probably because it is read only. There must be a simple solution to this since the backup must have been thought for a reason Do you know how I would copy/paste or restore this efs directory?
I figure its best to create a new thread about this, since this one is very old. For those that want to follow that thread, its right here.
Thanks again for your help

no service on SGS I9000

Recently, I flashed my SGS I9000 with DarkyROM v11.0 Black Edition and all went smoothly. I did this while I was in Pakistan for the holidays. When I came back to the UK, I found that my phone wasn't getting any service, not from my old sim or my new sim. My new sim had been activated on the day I got back and it just showed the crossed-out triangle. My old sim was supposed to be working but it wasn't working on the phone for some reason. After a fair amount of hours spent on researching on the problem, I figured that my efs was corrupted. A symptom of this was that my imei had changed and I'm not sure how to get it back.
Samsung Services decided to shut the door in my face and I haven't any solutions as of yet.
What's your take on this? Do you have any solutions to this problem?
All help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
Any one have any solutions to this problem?
Why you did not backup of efs folder before flashing? ...sometimes flashing official gingerbread rom helps in getting imei back, so try that :/

Okay, I've hit a new low. You can blame my stupidity for this.
I was looking at xsenman's suggestions and I asked about one of his methods, he told me to use the M110S Repair kit which I downloaded. I opened it up and it shows a bunch files that I had to flash to my phone. While flashing my phone and eventually bricking it, I realised that the M110S is the Korean version and I just tried to flash that firmware onto mine, resulting in a brick. Basically, I hold the power button and it shows the Samsung Anycall logo and that's about the extent of the boot and my capabilities. I cannot go into download mode or recovery mode (via 3 buttons) it just tries to boot up the phone.
I have realized my complete idiocy at this point but I could use anything just to get my phone back up so that I can atleast continue trying to sort out the IMEI.

Ok, this is rather strange and sad to hear , as you made a post in the Korean M110S Forum, my suggestions were for you to use the Korean repair kit at Today, 06:13 AM in response to a post made at Today, 03:07 AM.
But by Today, 07:39 AM, you responded I am referring to the wrong model and by Today, 07:46 AM, I advised you to use the i9000 froyo ROM instead .
So it sad to hear you still used the M110S repair kit knowingly , even after I advised you not to use it, at 07:46 AM today?
Anyway, what you should do is first power down, remove battery, remove SIM Card and Ext SD card, , press power button for a few min, than reinsert battery only and try for download mode or use Methods mention on MY Android Solutions, link below to achieve download mode .
Forget about recovery mode, get download mode and use PIT and full i9000 ROM package, use JVZ or JVU with boot loaders
I, Personally had tested i9000 ROMS on the M110S and spend a few hours flashing M110S repair kit over and over again to recover, so as long as your phone can get into download mode or with a help of a JIG, its not bricked.

I, Personally had tested i9000 ROMS on the M110S and spend a few hours flashing M110S repair kit over and over again to recover, so as long as your phone can get into download mode or with a help of a JIG, its not bricked.

At 7:39am, I had already flashed. At 7:30, I discovered that it was a different model. I spent some time trying to fix it before I sent that message.
Also, I'm going to try that jig method, see if it works.

download combo keys may change when OTHER firmware are used on a phone, so you should try different combinations for download mode . For M110S , download mode is home key +power key...give it a try or
1) To enter download mode [volumedown+home+power] or home +power
2) While in this position, insert the battery
I once lost mine, and to get it back, I flashed back the last known good configuration.
Unfortunately sometimes these things happen.
Right, the phone is back onto Gingerbread 2.3.6 after a cheap jig that I ordered forced it into download mode. I then flashed froyo then gingerbread and now I'm back to where I started, no service and a missing imei.
I've had a development!
Okay, so after playing around with the phone, rooting and stuff. I managed to get my 3g working somehow but still no imei, texting or calling. Really strange how I can use internet but not be able to text or call anyone

From what I know of rooting, my warranty's void by now. (It's like the tenth time I've rooted it)

if you get back on stock rom, wipe everything - samsung won't know
So my question remains
I would try figuring it out via google searches etc - but if you can't you could always send it into samsung.

[Q] GT-I9000M Remics-JB 2.0 Rev1 NO SIM CARD SEEN

Hello,
I have a GT-I900M bought from Canada, unlocked. I think it was locked to Bell Canada but I bought it from Pacific Mall. I am right now in Romania and I use Vodafon Romania as a carrier.
My wife was nagging me about the phone for quite a while. Honestly I did see nothing wrong with it. I decided to upgrade it to the last ROM. I am no expert. I did my home work first to see what and how I was supposed to do it. Lots of thorough reading not to get a brick phone. That did not stop me to brick the phone. I am not going to bother you with the whole story. Here is what I did:
1. Installed XXJVU,
2. Rooted the phone with CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS. Then I bricked it, following instructions when I checked Re-Partition. I went away with it putting the phone again in download mode and removing the battery and reinstalling it with Re-Partition unchecked.
3. I backed up the system
4. Installed XXJW4
5. Installed CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS
6. Backed it up
7. Installed Remics-JB 2.0 Rev1
Until 6. everything was fine. After installing 7. which was with no problems, I could not find the contacts stored on SIM card. I could not get or make calls but everything else was OK.
I decided to return for the moment at 6. My wife would have not appreciated a nice working JB but with no contacts or not working pone part, women...
The backups did not help me to get back at 5. I have to reinstall it from 1. to 6.
It is working fine now but I am still curious if there is a way after 7. to get to my SIM card, see the contacts and have a working phone.
Any help would be appreciate, thank you

Clearly your efs folder is corrupt. Whenever you flash a rom, your efs folder gets backed up. If you search your internal sd card, you will find a folder named "Backup". In there you will find your backed up efs folder. Copy that folder in the root directory and restart your phone. Hope this will make your phone A-OK

If you did a progressive upgrade, you will not have this problem, its like from GB > ICS > JB, or you can read MY Android Solutions, link below to resolve it

S3 mini boot loop problem

Earlier today after the installation of a music player from google play(i include the music player part because the incident occurred about 2 hours later), my phone has been doing constant boot loops.
It was working perfectly until it just suddenly blacked out, restarted itself and it makes it as far as samsung logo until it restarts again.
This was a pure stock s3 mini. When i came home, i decided to flash TWRP and change to a reputably working PAC kitkat. However the boot loop persists.
Any ideas? i'm at a loss.
Thanks in advance.

multiple times. Unless TWRP isn't getting the job done, which im sure isn't the case. I read a few threads where people had similar problems and it was suggested to do a battery change so ill try that and see what happens.
Guys i need some answers for a few questions please, or if possible, a link to thread(s).
1. Phone versions: Is there a way to identify your phone's version, example "I8190XXANC2", without having to turn on the phone. Im trying to locate my stock 4.1.2 JB.
2. I found a guide to unbrick soft-bricked S3 mini's. My problem matches one of the characteristics which is rebooting on its own after samsung logo. The guide includes the files, (and the stock ROMs hence why im trying to find my phone's version) and a param_I8190.tar file, which they say is to be used should the phone be stuck in a boot loop. My question here is, should i try the param_I8190.tar with Odin without flashing the stock ROM (i never rooted or customized my phone by the way)?
Again...thanks in advance for any assistance.
Just leaving this here...
The phone is apparently constantly unmounting the system and efs partitions. Whenever i reboot in recovery they are always unchecked. Is that normal?
Also it appears the phone works normally WITHOUT a sim card.....but i obviously need it to work with it.....i am baffled here and desperately need some assistance...any assistance.

Of course it's normal if system and efs are unchecked in recovery. So you mean your phone only booting without a sim card?

yea pretty much, thats the only hiccup. Would that have anything to do with the efs itself? Im still trying to understand what exactly it controls.

EFS is a folder that is saved in our smartphones. It controls IMEI number, serial number, WiFi MAC address, Bluetooth MAC address and many more. it means it's a very important folder and if you delete this folder then you can't call someone, turn on WiFi (because you don't have a MAC address anymore), Bluetooth etc. Only Samsung devices have an efs folder

flash the official firmware through odin. it should fix your problem. if it doesn't work then i don't know what to do else
ok thank you both. i also just found the official stock rom for my firmware. I did some digging myself and i believe i know what the problem is now. It appears the phone is missing it's nv_data.bin file, which i read induces a bootloop if it isn't present.
I will attempt the flash with odin and report in later. Hopefully it works.
It doesn't seem to be a problem with param or cache because the phone bots without sim.
Most likely is't something wrong with baseband or modemfs-folder.
Try to flash stock rom first and report back please.
DON'T do anything with your /efs. i8190 does not have NV_data.bin in efs like most sumsung devices do.

will do, thanks.
@xXPR0T0TYPEXx they didn't have the one from my region. had to get it from here http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I8190 instead. it's already downloading.
Unfortunately, the phone is still bootlooping with the sim card. Works without sim. This is rather frustrating.

Then it's maybe a Hardware problem. I think your sim slot is damaged.

As I said, we don't have a NV_data.bin
What happens when you try to enter recovery and/or download mode?
