Hey all,
Im in a awfull place right now, my droid 3 does not boot up anymore..
This weekend i organised a party for all my friends and with all the hassle i forgot my phone outside and it got rained on for about an hour...
I does turn on in the sense that it emits light from a black screen but then it shuts down again and if its on AC it keeps doing that but never gets to the "motorola" "dual core" logo...
Do you guys need more info? or can't this be helped in anyway?
Btw, im dutch and bought this thing from negri. Ill be traveling the US in about a month so maybe i should just send it in for repairs??? its only a coupe of months old so the warranrty is still valid.. Do i send it to negri or moto??
Thanks for any and all help.

Moto won't repair rain damage, that's not covered under manufacturers warranty. Whether negri will depends on what coverage you have from them. I have insurance on my device through my carrier that covers water damage, but costs me 150$ for the replacement device(which is better than buying a new one)

Your best bet is to soak your phone in a jar of chemical alcohol overnight. The alcohol displaces the water.

Hi guys,
i had just got back inside the dive shop's speedboat when my wife thought the she should check whether all had gone well during the dive.
I unwisely went to pick up the call, and dropped my tilt on the floor of the boat which had about 2 inches of water. I opened it up wiped it clean and left in the sun for about 3-4 hours. When i put it back together, it fired up and i thought i was home free.
Sadly, it somehow restarted itself and stuck on the tricolor screen. I tried a hard reset and it worked fine, booted and worked ok for about 2 days, except that sometimes it would auto-dial the last caller, like the green button was pressing itself.
Yesterday, it put itself in an endless restart loop where it would boot up and then 3-5 seconds in the boot sequence it would boot again, like someone was pressing the reset pinhole. I took the battery out once again, and when i put it back in, i just get the tricolor but the hard reset "trick" doesn't work anymore and i am stuck in the tricolor.
I just got back from my vacation and saw the various threads, so i thought i might add mine. I would appreciate any insight or ideas into how i would go about saving my phone...
Thanks a lot
I think your only chance is to take it apart and clean it -- salt water will corrode things quickly and lead to all kinds of nasty stuff.
I would open it up clean it with alcohol then put the parts in a bowl of uncooked rice for a day (works wonders on fixing wet watches and electronics), after putting it back together I would flash it to a STOCK rom, then flash to a ROM of your choice.
Thanks a lot for all the tips guys. Unfortunately i cannot open it up before the weekend, but i can do the rice bowl thing immediately and hope for the best.
I will keep you posted.
Thanks

Say bye to your phone then.. Salt water is extremely corrosive to electronics and even a few hours and then cleaned could be the end of it. Days? Well.. Let us know how it turns out.

Well put. People often don't realise that the usual tricks which may work if it's fallen into very pure water, won't work with salt water. If the o/p has insufficient time to do a proper job of it himself right away, then he may consider paying a professional to do it for him (even then he may be to late though).
Edit just realised my post number is 666 - sorry if this seems similarly harsh and cruel but its true.
Thanks for all the input guys, but i dont have a choice. I am somewhere without access to my tools or anybody else's tools for that matter.
Its now been a week since the phone fell in the drink, and that's that.
It still switches on - but stays in tricolor - so i hope that its not completely dead. Still, if it dies then it dies, and i will have to get another one. Maybe the HTC Leo when it comes out.
I will keep all of you posted.

Unless you're somewhere without a postal service and telephone service you still have choices. In fact thats how HTC in the UK arrange and receive many of their repair jobs.
???
Well if you are in the middle of nowhere without any modern equipt. except for the ancient internet, why would you even ask anyones advice if there was nothing you could do except put it in a bowl of rice. Everyone keeps trying to help you but you just keep telling them you can't do anything. Go buy your Leo and don't drop it in the dink mate. lol
Hello everyone,
I am now back home, where all my tools are available. I opened up the phone and cleaned it thoroughly with pure alcohol.
Dried it up and reassembled it, crossed my fingers and fired it up: And there it was!! It worked perfectly, and it has been doing so for almost 24 hours now.
Thanks once again for all your help.
@ Martinjv71
Thanks for your constructive comment. When i asked the question, i had no way of knowing that opening it up was just about the only thing i could do to save my phone. If you dont have something productive to say to people when they post something, just be quiet then. I asked people's help, not for your criticism, nor your wiseguy comments regarding my lack of access to tools, while having access to the internet. Your comment had absolutely zero added value in this conversation, so why did you even bother? We'll see how funny you think it is if you ever drop your phone in the drink.
If you must know, i was on holiday and then went on a business trip in a place where it was impossible to buy the tools and the hotel i was staying at did not have something i could borrow - while internet service is available in most hotels, size 6 torx screwdrivers are not.

Distilled water
You may have saved it. I usually go a bit further by removing the battery and soaking it for at least 30 seconds in distilled water.
If you have it apart at the time, only the electronics need the soak. Cards, Boards, switches, contacts. Water with salt or chlorine needs to be diluted and rinsed away. I have some long surviving Nokia 6800s to show for the effort!
I guess wiping it down may do the job for sealed parts/components.

Then you should rush out and buy a lottery ticket because you are very lucky - especially so having powered it on or had the battery in it while it's wet with salty water.

The problem is that many people think they can get away with just drying it out and it'll work but when water containing minerals has contaminated the device, even when the water evaporates mostly away, the salt/minerals remain and as already mentioned can be considered a corrosion time bomb - I wouldn't say your out of the forrest yet either because there'll be areas you couldn't get at properly to clean (such as under ICs and in some switch contacts) so only time will tell. It's the same as cars which have been in floods. Even though they will be dried out and cleaned, they're still a huge corrosion risk compared to cars that have not been submerged.
I asked people's help, not for your criticism.

I can certainly understand peoples anger about your response because it did appear to me you weren't taking the urgency of the situation seriously. Even if you have no tools to perform a repair yourself, there's still the ability to post it to a repair centre. Where theres a will, there's a way.
I hope your Kaiser lives long and prospers - my fingers are crossed for you

My old man stuck his hero in the washing machine once..
I left it sit out in the sun for a while to warm it up, then let it sit on a plate of
rice, covered with a paper towel.. The rice helped suck up some of the moisture.
I'd have used Silica dessicant, but didn't have any at the house.
His screen looked funny for a couple of weeks, but eventually returned to
normal. I did have to replace his battery, as lithium batteries do not like water.
Lithium in general reacts to water, and as such, I had a hunch his battery was
toast, so after I got the moisture out of the phone, I tested his phone with my
battery to make sure it powered up.
Can't say that your phone survived the water, but I will almost guarantee that
your battery did not survive the water.
any idea on the bad esn phone???
First Thing To Do If That Ever Happens Again (Hopefully Not) Is Immediately Take Out The Battery, Then.... What You Still Probably Can Try.... Get Out The Old "Hair-Dryer, & Get To Work!! If You Can, Blow The Air Into The Slot For The "Usb Cord" **It Worked For Me A Few Months Back** ??Might or Might-Not Work?? But It's Worth A Try!! Good-Luck!!

I second that, Hair-Dryer can/will mess it up. As far as BAD ESN, wont work, esn is stored in NV RAM on the motherboard.
I plugged my phone in before I went to bed, it had 57% left and I need a full charge for work each day. I woke up 45 minutes late due to my alarm not going off, I immediately grabbed my phone and pressed the power button a few times and the screen would not turn on. It was then I noticed the led was not orange or green or whatever it is when its full charged. I grabbed my girlfriends charger for her S3 and plugged it in to see if it was the cord, no luck there so I took it to work and tried a few outlets there to no avail. The phone is dead, or sleeping really ****ing hard. I called sprint who gave my the number to asurion so I could file a claim, they charged me $150 for a new phone to be shipped out and they want my old one. Which seems kinda crazy considering I bought this phone full retail on pre order for my birthday. I've also tried booting to the boot loader, through the button system and adb on my pc. Anyone have any clues as to what happened? did my phone seriously take a crap a little over a month of owning it, I'm also another $150 in the hole on it and I'm just crossing my fingers it does not happen again, can't afford this. But if anyone has any insight, suggestions, or experiences please share, thanks.
I saw this it's worth a shot

+1 This isn't an insurance claim. This falls under warranty and wouldn't be subject to a deductible. You should take it by a store and get it replaced.

You could also try the put it under a bright light while you're booting it trick

Not sure how this works...
Anybody have any EDIT: hypotheses?
Why on earth did this moderator '' ghost '' think my thread about my phone falling down the toilet and me asking for assistance was '' off topic '' and was subsequently closed, seriously mate your well out of order closing that thread it's as relevant as any thread, I only hope something like this nightmare never happens to you!!!
Anyway again I'll start what is a very relevant thread, long story I dropped my One in the toilet managed to scoop it out straight away and it continued to work, woke the following morning and phone was dead but after charging it booted up but wouldn't recognise my SIM card so tried another SIM and won't accept that either.
Came home to find the phone dead it was on 78% battery last night after charging it, screen is washed out too as you'd imagine , so charged it and it has rebooted several times since but booted up eventually, but will not recognise any SIM I put in.
I recall reading a thread on here before saying if you put the phone in a bag of rice that sometimes works so will be doing that I do have insurance but if at all possible I'm hoping to rescue this phone.
I'm asking for any assistance from anyone who was unfortunate enough to be in the same situation.
DO NOT LOCK THIS THREAD it's as relevant as anything posted on here.
Thank you.

Hello, I have htc one which doesn't recognize sim cards, but not because of water damage:laugh:
To fix/change it, you should disassemble almost everything - it's under screen.
here is more info
Thanks mate but I'm no good when it comes to this type of thing, software I'm OK with but not the hardware side of things.

Me too. I'm afraid of teardown.
What will you do?
I've no idea mate, the phone now bizarrely won't turn off, I've left it in a bag of rice so will check tomorrow night and see if that done any good.
I put in a claim on my insurance as and its been accepted but have to pay an outrageous €95 excess which I could really do without, using my Moto G as a spare but badly miss my One.
If anyone has any suggestions feel free to post.

to be completely honest if your phone was usable when you scooped it out of the toilet, you should have IMMEDIATELY turned it off. and stuck it in a bag of rice for like a week. the reason your phone went all wonky after is probably because there was some left over water inside the phone and as you were using it, it probably moved around and shorted something.
I was in the pub at the time and very drunk.
It's not looking good at all though, Left in a bag of rice overnight and now the power button won't work, have to keep plugging in USB cable to wake the phone while I bluetooth my photos and videos, etc to my Moto G.
Gonnab just wipe the phone completely after I've taken all I need to take off it and give it to the courier who will deliver my new HTC One after I pay the excess next week (they said I have to return this phone, no idea what they'll do with it)
So thanks anyway but I'm just gonna sell the new one sealed and unlocked and use my Moto G until new HTC M8 is released.

Hi,
i am a bit let down by the IP68 rating from S6 active. i took my phone in the sea BUT NOT in the water to take pictures with my friends. probably ti got a bit splashed. My hands were wet too.
When i got back i got a message while trying to charge it. MOISTURE DETECTED. i had to blow it off with a DRYER to make it work. this was going on for some days and then all was ok. now back in town my phone started to complain about MOISTURE again. i believe this is a sensor fault.
What should i do? I am not in the USA where i can take my phone to AT&T? what do you guys propose? is there a way to limit this ? or fix it?
Since it seems that no one else has a solution, I am here to tell you I don't have one either. That being said, I can propose an alternative. A wireless charger should work.
There is no reasonable way to open up the device, and even if you could, I doubt there's any way to figure out how to repair the sensor.
You can try contacting Samsung and see if you can get a replacement. Just try to avoid the words "water damage". They don't like that.
I have had the same issue 2 weeks ago.. It was durring the hurricane and I live in tampa Fl. The phone never got wet at all but the humidity was ridiculous. For 3 days i kept getting the moisture issue intermittently. I tried canned air to blow the port out but it didn't help much. Finally seems to be okay now

It's an AT&T phone.
Take the phone back to the store you purchased it from.
..or..
Take it to a cell phone repair shop.

As long as you aren't on the east coast side of Florida you'll be fine. If you are there, good luck and stay safe.
A) hope you all made it through the storms.
B) did you ever resolve this? Mine has started the exact same error leaving me to wireless charging only
(bought phone on swappa, but for the last 7 weeks it's never seen water and all other indicators support that it's never been flooded)
