With 1.5 ans Sense UI it's nice and easy for me to text everyone from a group I've set up in my contacts on Gmail. I'm trying some 2.1 ROM's and wondering how I can do it with these?
Is there a particular app that will do it for me?
Try Handcent SMS, free on the market and best SMS manager for me
Aside form the obvious customization to the 2 third party apk's, why does someone choose handcent over chomp and vice versa why choose a third party over the stock?
For me, stock (Sense) is by far the slowest interface of the bunch... it is slow to open, slow to change numbers to names in the conversation list, and after pressing a conversation, slow to load the messages and slow to load the user icons.
I haven't tried chomp, but handcent is very fast. Handcent and Chomp are almost identical. However I believe handcent is slightly more customizable in terms of visual appearance (colors, layout, etc).
You should also consider the AOSP messaging app. It's basically a cleaner, faster version of the Sense messaging app. However, if you want it, it will have to replace the Sense one; you can't have both at the same time.
I was using handcent for quite a while. I do love being able to make all the visual changes in it. I would normally add pics as backgrounds for individual contacts and the make the bubbles near transparent so messages show up over their pics. Lately on 2.2 I've been using the stock message app. No particular reason. It's simple, no frills SMS. Really the nice thing on the 2.2 Roms is that you can automatically clean your messages to a certain number per thread. That setting applies no matter which app. I have never used chomp so have no take on it.

I have used all 3 recently on cm6. I have stuck with stock because its simple and fast. I'm also the kind of person that turns off all the eye candy on my computers operating systems. Would rather it be put to speed that visuals

I haven't used chomp, well, at least not on android. But I didn't like it at all on my blackberry. I also am using the stock messaging app on cm6. I have no problems or lags while using the stock app. But when using the sense messaging app, I find it to have unacceptable and unusable lag and freezes. Which is the whole reason I rooted my phone. And I don't regret it at all!

On AOSP roms I used stock but on sense roms I use handcent.
The stock one on sense is just really slow unless you constantly delete your sms/mms. You don't have that problem using handcent or chomp.
I am not sure why I picked handcent over chomp but I didn't use chomp very long before switching to handcent. It could of been the customization on handcent.
I started using Handcent on my Hero to combat the partial wake issue the stock Messages app had back on 1.5, and have gotten so accustomed to it I see no reason to go back. Plus, I've recently discovered and fallen in love with Handcent's Quick Reply popup feature.
Also, now that I'm using the HTC_IME keyboard on Fresh, all lag when typing messages in Handcent has disappeared.
I should have rooted & ROMed a long time ago. ;P

Hello,
I am using ChompSMS application.. I text my friends a lot.. I chat through texting.. On default application I was getting all the sms.. But on ChompSMS, some text messages are getting delivered on friend's cellphone but they are not getting received on my Galaxy S (running on Eclair 2.1)
Is their any problem in ChompSMS? Anyone facing the same issue?
I've been having this issue too on my EVO. I uninstalled Chomp SMS today and made a post on fb for all my friends to text me with times and comment if I don't respond, and I seem to be getting all their texts now. It sucks cuz I loved that app
I believe it's a common ChompSMS issue.
I personally just use the stock Messaging app and I've yet to have any problems or complaints with it.
Hello guys..
Finally I found out the bug..
This is not ChompSMS issue.. I had one Auto Task killer installed in my galaxy S.. I created a autokill list.. I added Messaging application inside that..
Whenever the message was coming, Task Killer used to kill all the task present in autokill list.. So does the messaging application.
One thing, ChompSMS use the Messaging process as a backbone so killing it resulted "FAIL OF RECEPTION OF MESSAGES"
I just removed messaging application from autokill list.. and blah.. everything started workin..
If you guys have this problem, then please look for auto task killer you are using.. Make sure you don't auto kill messaging process.

Hello! Tel st15i ask. I ask. Royalty Free Stock 4.0.2.A.0.42 does not turn off sms, sms reading comes ChompSMS go out blocking the bodies hanging on the lock screen unread sms, until you come to the stock SMS is not removed from the screen. Maybe someone knows the solution?
i just got a fascinate and I love it except for ONE thing. I hate that I cant stop the preview of my text messages when they come in. For this reason alone I want to go to Hancent or ChompSMS. However, I like the style of the stock messaging app on the fascinate. Iplayed with handcent and Chomp for hours and just cant get it customized to look like the stock fascinate messaging app.
Has anyone done this that would be willing to list the settings with me?
thanks so much!
I have Handcent and I can use all kinds of skins with it including the stock style. Confused as to why you can't
I flash my phone to gingerbread 2.3.5 using MiniCM7 - 2.0.7 for X8, but i found that the messaging included in the ROM does not have chat style, can anyone help me how to make the messaging to have chat style (or some say bubble style)?
i am not willing to use other messaging app, like GO SMS (felt it is a bit heavy), Handcent (the ads make me irritating), Chomp (sometimes it will not responding).
Thanks.
