Since moving from a TouchWiz/Samsung based ROM to a AOSP/CM base, the biggest thing I miss is Samsung's camera app. I never realized how bad the stock app is until I switched.
I've tried a few alternatives on Google Play, such as Camera360, Camera Zoom FX and HDR Camera, but none of them come close to how good the Samsung camera app is. They're all laggy, unintuitive, cluttered and ugly.
Problem is, apart from the fact Samsung's camera app is proprietary, and so can't be legally distributed, it absolutely needs the TouchWiz framework to function, and I really don't want or need TouchWiz for any other reason, even if I could get it on an AOSP/CM ROM (currently on the truly amazing X-Bean 2.0).
I've read that it is possible to "de-TouchWiz-ify" Samsung's apps, but again that still leaves the problem of licensing, and anyway the only "de-TouchWiz-ified" attempt I've found so far just didn't work at all.
So where does that leave me? I really, really don't want to go back to a stock GB ROM just to get a decent camera app.
So which camera app do you use?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
You already tried the popular ones and as you said the Samsung's original Camera App is better. So either you use JB with AOSP Camera or you use GB with Touchwiz and Samsung Camera.
Has anybody actually attempted to port the Touchwiz camera to custom ROMs or an actual decent alternative to the terrible AOSP camera app?
I take camera jb+ and its works like a charm
I use the official from the CM9 and it works great. For more I use instagram and Photo editor
I have similar thread and so far after stock camera for me is next best camera on last cm10

The camera that comes with UltraGen ( stock i guess) and CameraZOOM FX. Works fine..
I just tried FV-5: quite good but no macro mode, and still less intuitive than the Samsung app.
Cymera is just yet another of those gimmicky “service" based apps with silly effects, which is the complete opposite of what I want.
My main gripe is the severe lag on zoom, which Samsung seems to have overcome somehow (must be a driver issue).

CM10 stock camera. It has all that I need and it's simple. The only thing that I miss is save the photos in ext-sd but it's something that I can live with
I use the one from Slimbean for normal quick pics, and I use HDR Camera when I want to make a nice pic. This app sucks btw, does anyone know a better HDR app?

I also really like ProCapture. It offers more options for dealing with different lighting conditions and the pictures just look better. I prefer it to other camera apps as it does not overwhelm you with editing options.

Agreed. The only issue I notice is that sometimes it has a focusing issue. But that can be resolved by just focusing a few more times.

So I've been searching for an advanced cameras app where you can play around. So far I've come across camera v5 not sure if the name's right... The Beauty of it is that you can adjust the shutter speed to capture light trails like in a dslr... What I'm looking for is something that lets me manually adjust the focus.. The Optimus black on ginger bread had the option and it was great, any one know of such an app?

Increasing the shutter speed will result in less light coming inside the camera so the pic will look dark or even black.
Long time i didn't tried CM roms so i don't know what settings it has.
Could you attach some settings screenshots.

The app is called camera fv 5. It's a paid app on the platform store.. Also increasing the shutter speed won't capture more light.. You need to set a long shutter delay to capture light trails...
