Clean install of CM9 problem - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to do a clean install of CM9 so I ran ACMEUninstaller from a Windows box. Now I can't access the TP via USB from either Windows or Linux either from webOS or by holding the volume button while powering on the TP. Linux sees the TP but can't mount it. Says there it is an unknown file system. Is there a way to restore the USB drive in webOS? Or can I use my Windows or Linux box to reformat it? If so, what file system does it use?

Nexus One Mass Storrage Windows 7 64 Bit

I've been having trouble getting my nexus one to work as a mass storage device. I will mount sd and then it unmounts on its on. Tried on 32 bit system and it worked perfect. I can mount in recovery fine and i can use adb fine but not mass storage. I tried installing the drivers on here for 64 bit and it works for a little but if i restart my phone it starts unmounting and i have to reinstall drivers. i also tried installing pdanet and it works but same issue after restarting phone. any help would be appreciated
i've had no issues on win7 64bit mounting it, ive only done it once though, i prefer adb or i ftp files from pc to phone.
Using Win7 64bit here too....no probs...hmm..
Same here using Windows 7 64 bit no problems to report. I copied 3 gig music at one time to the SD and it worked fine.
I had the same problems.
The only way I could get it back to mounting again (and the not-mounting problem hasn't returned) was to:
1) Go into 'Devices and Printers'. (Start Button/'Devices and Printers'
2) Right Click on Nexus One and eject.
3) Disconnect usb cable and reconnect and then try to mount from N1 again...
I was thinking that the problem probably started because of my network mounts and then my usb hub on my monitor with all the card reader options as well. I think my drive letters got a little conflicted.
I had to fixed all that first in the Disk Management.
Hope that helps. I was really frustrated with not being able to mount the last couple of days.
Using Win7 64bit here and no issues. Mounted a few times to transfer music and pics.
i have no idea whats wrong. it works fine on my 32bit laptop. mass storage works in recovery. Its confusing
Manually seek and install driver?
I couldn't get it to work on windows 7 pro 64bit with administrator rights. With a user without admin rights, it worked fine!
I already tried manually installing and i have admin rights on windows 7 64 bit ultimate
there are 2 drivers you have to install from the androidsdk. device drivers and usb drivers. install through devmgmt.msc, browse to correct folders in android sdk to install.
You don't need the device drivers to use mass storage. You just need the usb drivers, which should have installed when you first plugged the phone in.
Have you got the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver installed on your pc?
I have the exact same issue with win 7 64bit home premium. No problem on winxp 32 at work. Also no problems with my ubuntu 64 bit set up. It also works fine in recovery mode.
a long time ago I called HTC about this, because it happened right after I got the phone in January and the official HTC response was, 64 bit os's are not supported!
I had the same issue. It all basically came down to not "safely removing" the storage before unplugging.
Did your computer flag the micro SD card as not safely removed and does it want to scan it for errors when you plug it in? This was happening to me. Apparantly Nexus was somehow choking on the attempt to "repair" and it simply unmounted the card. One day I took the card out of my Nexus, put it into a card reader and let Windows check it for errors. After that, I didn't experience any auto-unmounting anymore.
Actually I'm lying
Another problem was the underpowered USB hub which I use. If you use a hub, try connecting directly to your PC.
Ironically, since flashing back to stock rom (just fiddling around cos I was bored ) I've just had this issue of Win7 64bit not being able to recognise/access the sd card of my N1. Here's how I fixed it:
1. Plug phone into PC.
2. Turn on USB storage from dropdown menu on phone.
3. Go to Device Manager in Windows.
4. Find 'Android Phone' in Device Manager.
5. Right-click and choose 'Update Driver Software'.
6. Choose the 'Browse my computer for driver software' option.
7. Choose 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer' option.
8. You'll now see 'Android ADB device' and 'USB Mass Storage Device'. Choose the latter and click next.
Windows should reinstall the mass storage driver and the sd card should mount in windows.
If you haven't installed Android SDK in the past then you'll not have an 'Android Phone' in device manager. In this case look in the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers and follow 5-8 above but right-clicking 'USB Mass Storage Device' instead.
Note: I'd done a format of my sd card before plugging in the phone so if the method doesn't work try that (assuming you've nothing on there that you want to keep).
^ that's what i was trying to say

[Q] Touchpad won't mount usb storage anymore

So, i installed CM9, and... well, i can't mount USB mode anymore on Android, WebOS, with power+vol. up or with Clockmod...
Windows and Mac OSX says that storage is damaged and needs a format (But i can turn on the device and load Webos or Android)
So, what can i do?
Thank you guys.
Ok, i'm doing webos doctor 3.0.5
This tools is great... lol.
Go to Clockworkmod to format sdcard, this will delete all of your data
Then you can mount and install CM09
My touchpad did the same exact thing. Called HP to have it exchanged, as I also have the cracks in the case. My touchpad however, would not recognize the OEM charger within webos, connect novacom/novaterm when in bootloader mode, or connect usb in any scenario.
Hope you have better luck than me.
i solved the problem thanks to the doctor. So i reinstalled webos with doctor 3.0.5, did ACMEUninstaller and then erase data safely on webos.
i had the same problem and i found the usb cable is stuffed,i connected my samsung cable and everything working fine again.the charger works fine with samsung cable.

[Q] TouchPad Will Not Appear As USB disk on Mac Lion

Hi.
Hoping somebody can help me with this. I have a perfectly working HP TouchPad with webOS on it (3.0.5) but since I updated to 3.0.5 it will not mount as a USB drive on Mac OS X or Windows. It will appear in disk utility but I get the message to "Initialise... " the disk as it is not recognised as a valid formatted drive.
(Note webOS runs fine on it)
When I try mounting it in Windows 7 the same thing happens - I can see it in Device Manager but not as a USB drive.
I tried formatting it as FAT32 from within Windows 7 but then when I boot into webOS it says that it has to reinstall apps. In this situation even the inbuilt email application disappears from within webOS.
It did work fine before and I could copy and paste files onto it in USB mode.
Anyone any ideas how to get it back working as a USB drive in both OS's?

[Q] Problem with Touchpad usb mounting

Here is my problem:
Friend of mine bought a dual boot touchpad and it worked until it updated webos to 3.0.5.
Now when I went to work on it (I'm new to doing installs on touchpad, just installed CM7 on mine and it went flawlessly), I knew the update just knocked out moboot.
Well I went though the paces, and hooked the touchpad to the computer, selected usb drive in WebOS, and windows says format the device, which I did not.
I just then downloaded moboot though WebOS and used XX Commander to make the directory and move the file to the directory.
The rest of the steps worked fine, novacom worked fine, touchpad recognized the cminstall directory, and it now boots up to CM9 fine again.
At first CM9 would not recognize it when I hooked it up, looked online again, and fixed the options and the computer recognizes the touchpad as a usb storage device when CM9 is running.
But when I boot into WebOS, it still will not recognize the USB Drive as a useable drive.
What I read online so far was either I re-install the whole thing, or nothing. My friend does not want me to do that. But what doesn't make sense to me is novacom with ACME recognized the usb drive directory, CM9 recognizes it, XX Commander in WebOS recognized it, but WebOS does not, so it really doesn't sound like a partition problem like most of the things I read says, more like a mount problem, but I can be wrong. Is there anything I can do besides just a flat out re-install of everything?
Its a 16gb Touchpad with CM9 Version 9.0.0-RC0-Touchpad-alpha0.5
Just to clear some of the stuff up. What you mean is that under WebOS when you attach the TouchPad to your computer ... WebOS doesn't give you the option to attach the TouchPad as a USB Drive however when the TouchPad is booted into CyanogenMod 9 you are able to attach the TouchPad as a USB drive?
I'd still go with the wipe everything out and then redo everything option which your friend discourages. By wipe everything I mean running ACMEUninstaller to remove Android then running a factory reset within WebOS. If that doesn't work then running WebOS Doctor.
If your friend is afraid of losing what's on the storage drive of the TouchPad, then just copy what he wants off to a computer while in CyanogenMod. If he doesn't want the apps on Android getting messed up then use Titanium Backup to backup the apps and their associated data. If its the WebOS apps then, I'm not really too much in the knowledge on that subject. However you can see if this site can help you out.

Sorry I wasn't clear on that. I hook the Touchpad up to the computer when the touchpad is in WebOS. The Touchpad gives the option to select USB Drive. I click on that option, then on my computer a windows pops up saying "You need to format the disk drive J: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" In CM9, when I hook the tablet up to the computer now, it will show up as a usb drive, showing the folder that webos should be showing when hooked up to the computer.
I'm guessing I will have to convince to reinstall it then. Thanks for the reply!
I see ... try following the steps in the last post from this WebOS Nation forum thread.

Thanks!
Thanks @Bharakrama that totally solved my problem of not being able to use my TP as a USB target!

[Q]

I just installed JCSullins' September ROM; despite mounting on both OSX and Windows 8 partitions, and trying on my other computer, it won't mount as a USB drive on the computer for me to transfer information
Otherwise, I'm using Sullins' , Gapps, and CWM Recovery package
I'm sure its something simple and stupid, but it's not really immediately apparent on the interwebs. I couldn't find a recent FAQ either. Any hints?

I don't even remember the last time I mounted my TouchPad to my computer. I always use FTP to transfer files back and forth over WiFi. When I did though, I remember having to go into recovery and mount USB from there. Or boot into webOS and mount it. I think mounting it in Android is buggy or something from what I remember.

The last time I did this was CM9 (I think?) days, before data/media builds, and I had no problems mounting Android volumes then

Well sorry. I don't mount my Tablet. Use FTP. It's fast and no cables.

I've had this problem a couple of times, after enabling Developer options (10 taps on build in About Tablet at the bottom of settings) remove the ticks from USB debugging. It's appears to have worked for me but I'm not saying that this is the answer.
All the best, let me know how you get on.
I figured it out.
OSX doesn't support MTP. The volumes won't even show up on Disk Utility
The popup I was getting was just indication that OSX recognizes something plugged into the USB port; however, since there's no support for MTP, it won't mount the partition it contains.
It probably wasn't popping up on VMware is because it won't even mount on OSX, and therefore won't load onto VM.
I downloaded Android File Transfer and all is well.
