[Q] - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just installed JCSullins' September ROM; despite mounting on both OSX and Windows 8 partitions, and trying on my other computer, it won't mount as a USB drive on the computer for me to transfer information
Otherwise, I'm using Sullins' , Gapps, and CWM Recovery package
I'm sure its something simple and stupid, but it's not really immediately apparent on the interwebs. I couldn't find a recent FAQ either. Any hints?

I don't even remember the last time I mounted my TouchPad to my computer. I always use FTP to transfer files back and forth over WiFi. When I did though, I remember having to go into recovery and mount USB from there. Or boot into webOS and mount it. I think mounting it in Android is buggy or something from what I remember.

The last time I did this was CM9 (I think?) days, before data/media builds, and I had no problems mounting Android volumes then

Well sorry. I don't mount my Tablet. Use FTP. It's fast and no cables.

I've had this problem a couple of times, after enabling Developer options (10 taps on build in About Tablet at the bottom of settings) remove the ticks from USB debugging. It's appears to have worked for me but I'm not saying that this is the answer.
All the best, let me know how you get on.

I figured it out.
OSX doesn't support MTP. The volumes won't even show up on Disk Utility
The popup I was getting was just indication that OSX recognizes something plugged into the USB port; however, since there's no support for MTP, it won't mount the partition it contains.
It probably wasn't popping up on VMware is because it won't even mount on OSX, and therefore won't load onto VM.
I downloaded Android File Transfer and all is well.

Help my SD Card Wont Mount

I can access my sd card through a reader but I can't access my phone through usb (but it still charges). I have 2 partitions, one is fat32 (with some music, pictures and stuff) and another is ext3 (i reformatted it last night thinking it might be that but it wasn't)
Basically, I've tried it on xp, vista, win7 but win7 and vista it says it has malfunctioned and then when I go device manager its called unknown device
I have used swapper and most likely did try to mount my phone which I've heard screws up your card. So before I do it do I need to reformat my fat32 partition and if I do have to should I reformat it to fat32 or fat?
Or is there another solution?
Thank you
Have you tried formatting it from within the G1. settings->sd card -> format? You'll want Fat32 if formatting elsewhere, also if you want multiple partitions I'd try formatting the whole card first, then partitioning/formatting again.
Make sure you have a drive letter assigned to the FAT32 partition. (Eg. F:/)
hmmm
On xp it just says unknown device, I've reformated from my pc (the fat32 partition) maybe it would be an idea to do it from the phone. I just don't know what to do tbh I mean its weird. Do you think its to do with app2sd?
hmm
And I can't sign a driver letter because it doesn't come up with mount on my phone all it does it charge

Are you using the data cable that came with the phone? I lost mine a while back and tried using just a regular USB to Type A (the port on the phone) on the phone and got the same results. It'll use the power from the USB drive but won't mount or even connect.
Also, you might want to try to install the Android USB Driver for Windows. It's floating around here somewhere, just do a search for it.
If you have adb installed there's a command called ?adb kill server? or something like that. Sry on phone right now but a google search should help. Sometimes this process has been knows to fix similar problems where the pc doesn't recognize the phone. Not sure why it woult effect mass storage tho. But wth worth a try I suppose.
Well I'm using the data cable that came with the phone, adb remount just gives error:device not found and I have usb drivers because I have used this phone on this laptop before so you know
This is annoying
I've tried reflashing my spl but still no dice, I just dont get it :S
Like everyone else has stated, Format your entire card to fat32 and setup your partitions again. That should do it. the SPL doesn't really affect it. GL
Ill have a go
Right I'm going to have a go now
Ill tell you my results
Good luck Kushion!
I had the same problem only my sd card would actually show and mount for a second then unmount. I finally gave up and went and bought an sd card .
this is what I do now.
vm ware player http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
I believe with this running and a guest os I can mount the sd card.
I know for sure that I can do it with ubuntu but im not completely sure with windows 7.
This is also good for "sandboxing" programs or testing files to see if they have a virus. by running the guest os in the virtual software you are not infecting your main os . I use it when i wanna test things but dont wanna run the risk of borking my main os.
god daaaaaaaaammit
right I have deleted the ext3 partiton and then reformated it all to fat32, I then wiped, I then reinstalled cyragon firmware and booted and guess what...
doing the same thing :|
It lets in power but doesn't let me mount, doesnt even give me the option
I am having the same exact problem. My work computer, have always used it, same cable, same everything, then all of the sudden today I came to work, had some downtime was going to mess with my phone and it won't recognize my phone. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers at least ten times but to no avail. Any help greatly appreciated.

I know this is a bit old, but the topic got bumped and I saw this one... I do most of my "work" on my phone here at the office, and just use a standard MiniUSB cord with no problem. Not that you're the first one I've heard say that, but I don't think your phone (or PC?) is working right if that is the problem.. The ExtUSB cable that comes with the phone has standard data pins, just extra headset pins - that's the only difference.

Reboot the PC? Maybe an obvious question, but just in case. And.. It sounds like you have a reasonable level of admin access to the PC, but just in case - are you sure your employer hasn't blocked mass storage devices? I'm in IT myself, so I can use it on my PC.. But if I tried to plug my G1 into any of our other PCs here, it would happily charge away but never mount the drive, due to our security policies.
Wow old thread but similar problem...
My wife's G1 won't mount to pc as a mass storage device, however mine does without a problem. I have the drivers, sdk. I can see the phone through adb, it just won't mount. Also, I've tried it on both our pc's which are win7 x64. Check sig for phone details.

[Q] CM7 USB storage issue

Hello,
recently I flash my O2x with stable CM7 and from then I have issue with usb mounting. I plug the usb on the pc and a USB composite device appears with problem (device can't start). This happens also if enable/disable usb debugging or press the button for the usb storage support. I have try the 173 nightly same thing. To be sure that there is no problem with the pc I have try it on 2 different laptops.
Also to be sure that is CM7 issue and not my mobile I have restore a backup with the stock rom and everything works perfect.
Do we have any idea what is the problem?
Have you installed an LG Mobile driver pack?
in 2 from the 3 pc was installed (the third one is from a friend that has a LG laptop(!) and HTC phone)
I have a similar problem with CM7. I flashed first with NB 157 and now I'm with the latest one but I've never figured how to mount the phone as a usb storage. I use the default CM mounting points. SD card is mounted as /sdcard and internal is /emmc titanium backup, rom manager and all other software works fine with the sdcard, but every time I try to mount it as storage the windows popup that the USB Device cannot be recognized. I've installed the latest drivers from LG'w website. Also I've tried on 2 different PC's both with windows 7 but no luck. Also I've read somewhere in the forums that Dual Mount SD Widget can mount the SD card, i purchased it from the market but it doesn't work.
This is generally an issue with cm7 based roms. It's only reported on Windows and I haven't seen this problem in Linux.
If you have CWM, use it to mount your disk from recovery
Thank you for the tip but I've tried mounting usb storage in recovery and it doesn't work on Windows 7 64 bit. Also I've reinstalled the LG drivers but no luck so far.
Actually in recovery the OS recognize the phone and installs about 4-5 drivers including the Mass Storage one. Unfortunately there is one unidentified device in a list and when it fail to recognize it doesn't mount the phone as storage.

I'm thinking this is a driver issue. Any chance of getting your hands on a linux?
Anyway, CWM mount works for me in win7_64. It's weird why it doesn't on your setup. I've read of USB tethering issues on GB roms like cm7, but not on stock-based GB roms. Could be a driver issue fixed deep within the kernel to work on the specific board.
Try using topogigi's or paul's rom. USB mount works on both.
I've tried it on Ubuntu and it works like charm. Actually both emmc and sdcard are recognized and mounted as separate flash drives.
I'm seeing some mounting fixes in here: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=p990
This might fix mount problems on next latest release. Haven't tried it yet though. You might want to check the kang thread if someone built from the latest sources

My bad. I meant the next nightly release at the time of my post above. I'm now on nightly_177 but haven't tried mount on Windows. Works as always in Linux
I can confirm that cm7.1 stable through 177 the usb mounting doesn't work under windows but only under linux.
Does anyone know where i can put it as a bug?
Its working for me, had a problem when I tried it first, after that, power cycle phone, reinstalled the SD card and after that everything worked...it might be also that I reinstalled the LG drivers yesterday before doing this.

It's a difficult one, as it doesn't affect everyone. My USB mounting is still fine.
For what it's worth, I'm using LG United Mobile Driver v3.4

[Q] USB won't mount/detect on ParanoidAndroid custom Rom, but works in recovery

EDIT: Well slap me sideways and call me a salamander. I just tried restarting the nook *again* after getting out of recovery... and lo and behold, the computer recognizes it. It can see both the emmc and sdcard drives. It recognizes it as a "media device" but, oh well. At least I can swap files (hopefully).
Sorry for the troubles! This thread can be locked, deleted, burned, whisked away to the 10th level of hell, etc.
---------------------
Hi all,
I've searched around the forums for "USB MOUNT" issues but couldn't find one that address my problem. Apologies in advance if this has already been answered before.
I just installed the paranoidandroid 1.6 rom, and have been running it. I really like it, and thank you to everyone who made that rom possible.
I'm experiencing a problem where the USB just doesn't mount or even detect that it's plugged into a computer. I don't see any options in the settings on this rom to deal with USB connections.
I can boot into CW recovery and mount the SD card, which works flawlessly.
I'm not sure what the issue could be. Does this rom simply not support USB connections for some reason? I couldn't find any mention in the development thread about USB not working. Unfortunately I don't have enough posts to post in the development forum, so I thought I would try here.
So just to recap: I can mount the /sdcard when I am in recovery. Computer detects the nook just fine when connected through USB, and I even have access to ADB commands and such.
When running the rom, however, USB only reports as being a power source. I get no USB connection options, no "mount storage" menu or anything. My computer, likewise, acts as if nothing has been plugged into it. No little sound or any hint that any usb device has been plugged in.
Thank you so much!

Internal/external cards won't mount + No rom to boot

Hello, Finally made an account after lurking and flashing for a few months. This one is really stumping me...
SO.....
I was going to do a new install and wiped everything. I was trying to get the full size of my external 32gig card back after partitioning it for a app2sd setup and formatted it with disk utility(OSX). I ended up formatting the internal(I Know) by accident being a fast-click McGraw. I caught my mistake and formatted the external like originally planned. I think I formatted them to vfat.
After all this formatting, CWM and ADB won't mount my disks. CWM will not format them either because they won't mount. I have no rom loaded to boot into and I can't flash a new one because neither drive will mount.
I have been trying what seems like so many different things to include trying to make an EFI bootable Linux Live usb(didn't boot). This issue would probably be fixed by now if I wasn't using OSX but hey, it's what I have to work with. If anyone can help end my multi-day madness with a solution, great appreciation would be had.

Yea i understand im not a big of ms. Running Linux isn't really beneficial since you can do everything in osx. You can even compile but getting some packages is a pain. Anyways can you not push anything to / or does that partition not even exist? You could try mounting USB storage from recovery but i doubt that would work. We don't have hiemdal for this phone or you could use linux. Windows might be your only option find an iso somewhere if you don't want to register or download enterprise 7 by providing whatever the info it asks for, make it up.

Use this command or something similar.
./adb push /file path of ROM /
But if USB works then when its mounted just put a ROM on drag and drop and flash it.

Got it fixed!
While my Exhibit was down, I started using this Blackberry Curve I have as a backup. Decided to put my microSD in it and formatted it. I saw that it put the card back to its original storage space and got rid of the non-accessible partition. Loaded my backup onto it, CWM finally mounted it, and I flashed it.

yeah, i don't get it this thing must be defective and very well could be since i got it from Amazon Warehouse.
I have even tried using Stickmount which supossedly mounts these drives for Nexus devices and it will not mount. i can't see it no matter what i try. just tried reformatting as well and nothing.

i want to say it is formatted in NTFS but i will try fat32 as well? i know ive tried two different formats as well. doesn't show up anywhere. from all the yotube videos i've watched minimally it is recognized with an icon when plugged in. i've never gotten that
EDIT - ok went and made certain to format to fat32. had to download a tool to do it in windows since my drive is 64gb. still will not recognize this drive. i rebooted, nothing. damn, no idea why.

I'm not sure if ntfs will work or not, I'm almost certain it will not, but I haven't tried it. I'm only suggesting fat32 because that's what mine is. When I plug it in, an icon shows in the status bar for just a split second.
Edit: Just seen your edit. I have no idea why either. I can't imagine anything being wrong with it, since it works fine on your computer? Will twrp recognize it? (If you have twrp installed)

in TWRP i assume it is not recognizing it either, but it does list USB-OTG (0MB)
there is nothing on the disc at all so twrp must just list usb-otg by default and it won't let me select it either

Just to make sure, for it to mount in twrp, you do need to have the USB plugged in before twrp boots. Twrp does list usb-otg by default. When it's working properly it will show the amount of free space in place of the 0MB.

ok yes, i definitely had it correct then. had it plugged in before going to twrp.
essentially, i bought a return at a low price off of Amazon warehouse. i don't understand how this thing could be fine in a pc or my chromebook, but it definitely will not show up on android. it must be defective. it would help if there were a light or something on the flash drive to show when its connected though.
i just tried it in my galaxy mega and it didn't show up either.
so i'll return it and try another one. i appreciate you trying to help.

Yeah I guess it might be defective. Maybe try another fat32 formatter? (Probably won't help any) I used 2Tware to format mine. Good luck anyways though!
I don't see any mention in this thread of EXFAT. I say this because I was having problems just yesterday (coincidentally) with TWRP 2.8 not recognising my OTG USB formatted as NTFS. Although TWRP showed the NTFS USB in the backup destination list, I couldn't select it. When I formatted as EXFAT, it worked in Windows, Lollipop & TWRP.
Method - Windows 10, Tools, Format - dropdown box select EXFAT.
(I believe that Stickmount provides an extension for reading & writing NTFS USB volumes, but that doesn't help for TWRP.)
Give it a go - nothing to lose...
I found I had to install Stickmount to mount my usbotg drives. I did install the supplemental files that allow ntfs and it works fine to mount/unmount external memory including an external 750Gb hard disk. [Edit] Didn't try with TWRP.
