I have searched a lot, spent time trying to figure everything out.
I have Hero that I am trying to make BA for my little bro. I have the evo now. Rooted and tethering. Not much else I need to mess with on it. Fast enough for me. But my old hero is now rooted and has the app to tether. I can't figure out how the heck to over clock it. It is slow and I want to kick it up a couple notches for him.
I have searched and all the codes that you guys use at the top throw the searches off, or maybe I am searching for the wrong thing.
Any links to other threads would be great. That way when someone else searches just over clocking like I did it will come to this thread and then link to the useful threads.
Thanks in advanced.
I see you are rooted already, is the phone running a stock rom? If so think about installing [ROM] cyanogenMod 6.1 stable (<<<<search). Then you flash a [Kernel] [GPL] DecaFuct [2.6.29.6] (<<<<search) and install a app called OverClock Widget, it is easier to use than the other one you can use called SetCPU. Thats pretty much it, somebody may chime in that can put a few links up but I am on my phone right now so I cant.

Okay, so I need to back up my phone? Can I use the app on the android market MyBackup by Rerwarre, LLC? Then I need to download the files you linked me to in this thread? And then what?
Okay. I am sure you are all tired of hearing from me. But I am going to flash a ROM that has a over clock on it. I have a question tho. When I download the files. It unzips them. By that I mean I can open the folder and explore all of the files. Does this make it impossible to load that ROM? Thanks for your quick responses in advanced.
You dont want the file unzipped. Leave it zipped and put it on the root of SD card, that means just on the SD card, not in another file. Then reboot into recovery by powering phone off, then hold down the power button and the home button at the same time, keep them down until recovery comes on. If a white page comes up instead of recovery that says clear storage, pull battery and try again. Once in recovery you should see a few options. Nandroid, select this by clicking track ball while highlighted, this will back up your current system. After that choose install zip from SD card, then select the rom you loaded on SD card. After is says done, choose reboot system now. Then find Gapps 12-18-2010, I think those are the latest ones. Put them on root of SD like you did the rom and reboot into recovery the same way, choose the install zip from SD and select the Gapp file. Then reboot system amd you will set phone up with google like you did when it was new. You can then install one of the kernels linked for you, I recommend the 768 one, download OverClock Widget from the market and set it to 748, if your phone reboots for no reason lower that to 729, 710, wherever it becomes stable for you.
Okay, I did nandroid, I cleared everything, and I loaded the zip'd file ( I was trying to say earlier it is my mac's default action to un zip the file when it downloads. So I re compressed it. This might be attributing to my later problems) ANd then I rebooted. And it looks and behaves exactly the same as before.
Any pointers or ideas why it did this?

Since you re compressed it, it may need to be resigned before flashing. I could be wrong though
What does resigned mean?
ANybody have any idea why my ROMS arent loading at all?
Not quite sure if this will work on mac, you may need to find a XP pc to do this from. Here is a link to a zip signer though, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805766&highlight=zip+signer
Another thought...
Can you download the rom using the phone, then move file from download folder to root of SD card, using a file manager such as Astro or even better E Strongs File Explorer? I have read where some members have rooted, installed roms, kernels, theme, with no PC at all.
awesome idea on doing it from my phone. I didn't know it was a Mac problem. I can just run boot camp and boot up my mac with windows OS and try it on that. Thanks again.
Okay, i am trying to do it all from the phone. But the file is too large for the phones memory. And I can't figure out how to download righto the SD card. Any pointers here?

Ok what rom are you running again?
I just go to settings then cyanogenmod settings then application settings & it will let you choose
The factory ROM trying to get the first custom one loaded.
use the xda app and navigate to the thread that has the rom you want to install. from there click the link of the rom and it will go to SD card in a file called downloads. after completed plug phone into PC/mac and move that file/rom to root of SD card. Then reboot recovery and flash, done. There are literally 100+ threads on installing a rom, search, read, learn. What recovery do you have installed?
Okay downloading it to my Windows 7 bootcamp worked like a charm. I did the red dawn ROM. Isn't that one already over clocked?

hi guys, so as the title states, i'm new to the droid scene and i have a streak 7. i have been reading for a few days now and want to root my streak. i am unsure about how to do this, i have seen gingerbreak and superoneclick. based on the fact that i dont know crap, which would you guys recommend? i have some other issues that concern me. maybe some of those fixed would be a good start?
issues:
1. i cant seem to connect my streak to my pc, running windows vista
2. i have no idea what all these acronyms mean?
3. i dont know what ROM to use, hell i dont know what a good ROM is
4. i cant connect my streak and my iphone via wifi
maybe some one can pint me to a basic, newb users guide would be good also. if some one is willing to help me, i'd appreciate it! sorry if this is the wrong spot
hello and welcome
1) did you install the dell drivers?
2) which acronyms are you referring to?
3) rom flavor depends on your needs... streakdroid is awesome but has bluetooth issues...on the flip side......is is overclockable. Im using custom 2.2 ...I need bluetooth sadly and can't sacrifice it for an overclockable kernel.
4)you need to modify the wpa supplicant file in order to tether via adhoc ( device to device )
Steps on how are in the forum.im typing via my ds7 ....otherwise id look it up for you. Its easy to find though.
Hope that helps!!!

Thanks for your reply. Here is what I found:
1. The drivers I found won't work with vista but I was directed to another method I hope works
2. All the "apk, rom, wpa" stuff like that. I mean I figured out a rom is what you use as a front end of sorts
3. I don't need overclocking, don't need speed at all as it's just going in my truck as an audio source, gps, video player, Internet thing.
4. I'll use your post to search this method out. Might need some help. I'm assuming I need to have the devise rooted first?
On a rooting note, what's the best, easiest method for a newb such as myself? I am on 2.2.2 and it's a t-mobile streak 7.
Again thanks for your help.
With 2.2.2 use gingerbreak. Its one button and your rooted.

Thank you. Seems as I'll be home later tonight so I'll be able to try and at least root the streak tonight. I hope it goes well.
ok so i rooted my streak 7 tonight. wasnt so bad i used gingerbreak.
now i need to modify the supplicant file in order to tether my iphone to my streak via wifi. i found all the info and the files, but i dont know how to "flash the zip in recovery" i read through some 16 pages and still cant figure it out. can any one point me to a step by step on how to apply the patch? or just write it out step by step? i am getting the hang of this stuff but i dont know enough and dont want to mess up my streak and not be able to use it all via wifi.
thank you again guys, you are a big help to a newb

2. moved to sd card
3. opened up clockwork recovery
4. ran rom up date of said zip file
5. asked to make back up
6. rebooted in recovery mode
7. dont know if it worked??
8. still wont see my iphone using mywi for tethering

You don't need to do any of that....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970219
You are rooted. All you have to do is use any file explorer which allows writing to root and copy this file to /system/ bin (back up your old one by renaming it to wpa_supplicant.old first. Restart wifi by going into settings and uncheck / recheck the box. You can now tether
The file is a zip. Extract the wpa_supplicant file from it and copy......not the whole zip itself...just the extracted file

Wow and I thought about copying the files. But I kept reading about "running" a patch, so I thought I had to let the script do something. Thank you very much for your link! I will try it hopefully tonight when I get home from working.
ok i am trying what you posted pyraxiate, but i cant seems to rename the files? i have tried both es file explorer and android file explorer.
ok i dont think my root went through. i re-read that the gingerbreak has to be on the devise and i had it on the sd card. problem is i cant get the gingerbreak apk to the eternal memory of the devise. my computer is only 32 bit and the adb files wont work on 32 bit, only 64 bit. so it seems i am stuck until i find a computer with an OS other than vista! damn it, unless some one has solution guess i am stuck unrooted for now
Do yourself a favor and use the super1click via tether to a laptop. Its easy. Install the drivers they give. Also I bought root explorer. Well worth it!
Also you can use the xp32 bit driver. It worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939921
That's how I did mine
If you have the gingerbreak.apk on the SD card use a file manager and install it. Then open in in the app drawer and click root. The device will reboot if it worked. Might take a few minutes and look like it froze.

Thing is I emailed it to myself and it still saved it to the sd card part, even though I removed my sd card?? I did the gingerbreak and it did reboot, I also did the clockwork recovery. I still don't know if it worked? Seems as though I try and rename the wpa files and I'm not allowed, does this mean that it isn't rooted?

I know es file explorer wont work for root. You need a root file explorer. Also, it would be a good idea to download a rom ( either streakdroid or custom 2.2.2), put it on the internal storage, and try booting into cwr to flash it. You boot cwr by powering the streak off first. Hold volume up in and push / hold power. You will get a recovery boot menu. From there choose update from zip ( this is where cwr is) and cwr should boot. From there follow guides to wipe data / cache / delvik and then go to install a file from zip. Choose the rom zip ...sit back...and relax as it flashes to a fully rooted rom
Hope that helps!!
First, I apologize now if this has been answered before. I searched through the forum and couldn't find anything that worked.
I have a Nook color ( not sure if is blue-dot, it is firmware v1.2 ). Using the instructions on this forum, I imaged an SD card with the latest CM7 ( cm_encore_full-232 ), put into Nook, booted, and all worked. Shut down, and copied gapps file (update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip) onto card. Booted into Recovery mode, it did its' thing, and shut down. I re-booted, connected to WiFi, added my gMail account to the e-mail icon, and all seems to work.
Except, I have no Apps icon. I tried re-flashing the gapps file and suggested in another thread, with no change. I saw another post that said, when I add my Gmail account, it should download the marketplace automatically. It didn't. I saw another post that said to check a file is in the /apps folder, or something like that. I don't know how to check that.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Try this:
The Google apps zip is usually named gapps082811.zip. You can get it from ron manager or goo-inside.me. Flash that (that's the gapps file) and you should get it working.

It is the CM7 7.1 stable ROM, not GApp.
Redo the gapp and see what happens.
That did it
When I followed the link about the gapps file, it said to find the one for my version of CM. That was at the top of the page. Unfortunately, that was for an update to CM7. The gapps file was at the very bottom. Found it, installed onto the Nook, went crazy looking for an "Apps" icon, finally figured out it is actually "Marketplace", and have just gone nuts downloading apps. Even Netflix looks OK.
Thanks for the assist.
Good
Glad I could help.

Isn't there a war going on practically next-door to you! I wouldn't be worried about your Touchpad...
But nevertheless, did you create a "cminstall" folder with CWM, CM9, Moboot, and GAPPs; then run the AcmeInstaller2 from the command prompt?
Perhaps you got a bad version of CWM! I would try AcmeUninstaller and do it again with a new download! :good:

Brings up a good point for posterity. Make sure you are using ACMEInstaller2, not just ACMEInstaller.
I have had a similar problem, installed CM9, ICS and moboot, didn't realise that I needed to change the Clockworkmod file name to update and didn't get CWM on my boot list.
I have, subsequently, edited the file name and re-run the installation from the novacom step, but this hasn't resolved the issue. Do I need to do a complete un-install and then try again? If so, is the ACME uninstaller the way to go and are there any instructions I need to be aware of.
Thanks in advance

Thanks for that sstar, only problem is that the file is not accessible due to bandwith issues.
I also already have the tenderloin file, (cm-9-20120923-NIGHTLY-tenderloin) but when I tried running ACMEInstaller 2 again, after renaming to updte-cm-9-20120923-NIGHTLY-tenderloin, it still didn't add CWM to the boot menu - I have to admit to being a bit confused, as a noob, so not sure quite where I've gone wrong.

ok youre naming the Clockworkmod Recovery wrong. remember theres CyanogenMod nightly roms and then theres ClockworkmodRecovery. the recovery never has nightly releases.

I need to get rSAP working with the phone for my Audi car kit to work. I also have an added issue that my phonebook contacts don't sync at all.. (apart from that its a great bluetooth connection...lol)..
I've located the rSAP program but apparently when its downloaded from the play site. it doesn't work correctly. In order to get it working correctly, you have to manually load the files into the recovery section of a rooted HTC one. im using this program www.android-rsap.com
I've got a fully rroted HTC one. and I have downloaded the files from the above site. I've just no idea how to get the files onto the phone.. any pointers would be very useful. thanks...

Hi thanks for the replies. Actually i have now found out how to do it and yes, i do feel a fool.. It was so easy.
For anyone else having the same issue..
simply download the files you need to load to your phone, Store them where you can find them.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode (your phone must be unlocked and rooted for this)
Simply pick install files and direct to the stored location of the files you downloaded.
Reboot the phone.
