Hi everyone, this is my first post in the forums!
I have two questions:
1) I am going to update my Galaxy s I9000 from stock GB 2.3.3 I9000XWJVH with no root to 2.3.6 using Odin The thing is that i dont know wich firmware shall i use, I9000XWJW6 or I9000XWJW7. Which version of odin do i have to use?
2)Do i need to do a factory reset before installing it? if answer is yes, do i have to use the 3 combo key to (home, volume up and power) in order to wipe data from there?.
Thank you!

Firmwares are based on your location, and it might be easier to just download the latest KIES and let it update your phone for you without worries automatically, but do backup your contacts images etc to your PC or to a Google drive and KIES also has its own backup...follow instructions as given in KIES carefully
KIES used to be problematic, but its improving lately

The problem is that kies keep telling me that 2.3.3 is the lastest firmware for XEF. I live in south América and there is not any New firmware for my region, and my actual 2.3.3 firmware is from france. Thank you for your time!

ok, if you want to use same France Firmware, you should download XWJW5/XXJW4/OXXJVC/Sbl (MultiCSC) or any other for Europe from Here and follow that guide using Odin3 1.85 or latest
Make sure your phone model is not i9000B (South America) with DMB TV as firmware for that would be different
Formatting SD card and factory reset would give you clean installation, but make sure you move all your important files and backups to PC or ext SD card for save keeping first

First UNDO any lag FIX , you may have applied, before doing any factory reset,
to Format SD card, you can do>menu>settings> storage> unmount Internal SD card> Format SD card
to factory reset, menu>settings>privacy>factory reset ,
yes also do the full wipes (depends on the recovery you have) for a clean installation
IF formating SD card is not your preference, you can skip it

The idea is to do a clean installation so i am thinking of formating the sd. This is my first experience with rom, odin and everything so i dont have recovery root or anything. I saw in the faq and in the forum that the metod to do the wipes is 3 key combo (home volume up and power) is that correct?

I've searched all threads and even threads from different phone models.
Here's the problem, after upgrading my N7000 to ICS stunner, I decided it wasn't for me, so I downloaded LA6 (my official stock firmware), and now every time I try to run it through PC Odin, I get stuck at factoryfs.img.
I have tried wiping everything; data, cache partition, delvic, system etc before flashing it but the problem persists.
I have even tried ticking partition and then putting a PIT file in the PIT section i downloaded off of a certain website, but no luck.
I have also tried downloading different stock roms with anti-virus turned off, as dr. ketan had suggested in one of the other threads i searched before making this one, but no luck again.
I have also tried using the back USB port of the computer and even different computers but same problem.
Is there anything I can do at this point or is the phone totally bricked?
PLEASE HELP thanks!
NOTE: I am able to get into download mode and CWM recovery mode just fine. I wasn't able to get into recovery mode before but after I flashed an FM kernel, I can get into CWM recovery mode.

That doesn't work. I flashed the abyss kernel, then wiped everything like you said, and then using PC Odin, tried to flash stock firmware but it's still stuck at factoryfs.img.
You shouldn't have formatted /system from cwm recovery.
In all probabilities, you damaged your hardware.
Sorry!

Of course.
But this kernel is not for Note. So /system partition definitions are different.
Search for the thread "No Flash ********" by angelom. You would know.

No i did not wipe system before flashing absyss kernel.
Sorry I am not getting what exactly you did.
If you formatted /system using LP1 or LP5 kernel then you are in trouble.
Otherwise, you might not be. But from what you are facing and from my experience, I think you might have a damaged flash drive.

I did system wipe before I flashed absyss kernel. After flashing it, i wiped everything but system.
Btw, since you're in india I want to ask, can I bring this phone with me on my trip to india and take it into samsung store and would they replace it or fix it? The phone is EURO model and it has the same style prongs found in Indian phones (rounded), but I bought it from an international ebay seller. You think they would touch it at all?

They would definitely repair it, but not too sure if they would honor the warranty. You will have to pay.

I do not think Samsung has international warranty, yet.
The official repair costs would not be more than INR 10K. If the you could talk your way through they will give discounts up to 70%.
Again, this differs from city to city and from service center to service center.

On what firmware was your note before update (e.g. 2.3.5, 2.3.6, 4.0.3, etc) and how long did you wait? Try rebooting first either with battery pull or without.
Just flash any GB ROM (Find it on first link on my signature, post #2)
and wipe cache and data from recovery.
Dont wipe on existing ROM, may be you are on ICS after update.

You have two option, one as i said in previous post
OR
Flash safe kernel (like hydracore/speedmod) using PC odin
then wipe cache and data from recovery, but you have to reset counter later.

If you are not experienced then i recommend
visit this post

download and flash any GB ROM using PC odin. Steps are already mentioned there.
after flashing (you will find force closes, dont worry for that)just enter to recovery by vol up + home +power)
and wipe cache and data
your device will boot normally
Then
visit this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20963707&postcount=1
download and flash any ICS ROM you like and flash same way
BUT DONT WIPE after flashing ICS(if you have followed as said above, you won't need to wipe after flashing ICS), if you want to wipe flash safe kernel first.

Hello,
I recently rooted my phone and flashed it with "PhilZ-cwm6 v5.00.4 with CWM 6.0.3.1 based recovery" and then flashed "Avatar ROM 3.0"
Before flashing ROM, i followed these steps:
1. Select ‘wipe data/factory reset’
2. Subsequently ‘wipe cache partition’
3. wipe dalvick
The installation completed succesfully and after reboot i face following problems:
1. Can't open gallery, camera, theme chooser etc as it says no external memory found.
I have a micro sd card of 2 GB and the internal phone memory is 8GB.
But in the storage i find this:
Internal storage
Total Space: 1.97GB
Available: 1.88GB
Internal Storage
SD Card
Total Space: 1.90 GB
Available: 149MB [As i have songs and other files in the card]
USB Storage
MOUNT SD Card
Insert an SD card for mounting [Cannot click on this option]
Please help as it was my first time that i flashed a ROM.
Flashed new ROM but still the same problem with memory
I tried flashing ParanoidAndroid ROM and then CM ROM but still the phone memory is not detected and hence cannot open gallery, camera....

Cm based roms do not include any Google apps such as play store, or anything, gapps includes these. You need to flash that first, then deal with your memory issue which I don't think you have.

Dear Sir,
I have installed custom ROM SuperNexus 2.0 milestone 1 at my gt-n7000.. I have rooted my cellphone using Philtz 5.0 version with CWM 6.0.3 version..After successful completion of custom Rom, my cellphone is not showing file manager, or my internal and external memory is not detected.

Other thing I want to tell you that before installing above custom ROM, I took the backup of my jelly bean 4.1.2 ( I had installed it using odin to upgrade from ICS) using Philtz 5.0.. and when I used to restore to 4.1.2 JB from SuperNexus due to facing above mentioned problem, gallery is missing and setting option is also missing..
