Yes, install that app and turn wireless connection on after selected wireless position... even if you aren't connected on a router, it should reduce fix time
Sent from my Optimus 2X with Paranoid Android. Thanks button is here ↓ !!! Just use it

And did it solve your problem?

Need some advice before modifying my device

Hi all, This is my first post at XDA so please kindly correct me if there are something wrong.
I have purchased SSGS around 3 week ago and found that there are some minor problem with my device. The phone still usable but some of these problem are quite annoy. Below are some problem with my device.
1.) There are some lag when opening/closing apps
2.) If I turn on "Use wireless network" in Location setting sometime my Wifi automatic turn itself on and fail to automatically turn off (The wifi status at notification bar turn green and said "turning off" forever and the only solution i get is to restart)
3.) After restart sometime my EDGE connection will not working properly (the "E" symbol is appear at notification bar but the data is not flow, can not connect to the internet) the solution is to restart again or connect to Wifi network that can access to internet and then turn the wifi off.
4.) GPS seem to be very slow.
5.) When turning off Wifi sometime EDGE connection is not auto reconnect (need to turn on and off flight mode to reconnect the EDGE)
After reading this forum for some time. I decide to try to solve those problem permanently however I would like to have some advice from all of you who have experience first.
My device is running on Asian stock firmware I9000DXJF4 and already rooted. Below are my plan for modifying and also some question.
1.) Backing up all of my apps and data. Which backup apps should I use? Titanium backup?
2.) Flash to European firmware via ODIN. Which firmware is the most stable JG5, JM2 or I should advance to Froyo JP2? Are there any problem flashing from Asian to European firmware?
3.) Rooted and installed busybox
4.) Restore my apps and data. After restore, my apps still be able to updated via market or not? Especially some paid apps
5.) Apply Mimocon's Lag fix.
Does above procedure seem to be ok? Am I forgot something?
Thank in advance for your advice

I have this problem too. I'm on stock XXJF3(?) firmware. I'm thinking about switching to XXJP3 froyo firmware.
I have read some where around here that this problem have been fix in new firmware but my problem now is that I don't know which one should be used.

us.pool.ntp.org and supl.nokia.com

I live in Northern Utah, and I get reception from 7-8 GPS satellites on average and a >30 sec indoor GPS lock with the stock gps.conf file, but with this gps.conf configuration

XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin

[Q] Is anyone able to locate yourself with GPS alone?

With data from network I can identify the location instantly. However, if I uncheck "Use wireless network", I have never located myself on Googles Maps. Is it a defect on the GPS?
Thanks in advance!
Google maps doesn't includes world map installed, it only store some caches.. you still need network to download map data & network based location, GPS is used for more accurate result & yes it's true p970 gps is not so good.

Thanks for your help! In fact, I already have cache of Google Maps, then turn off the wireless connection, to figure out the performance of the GPS alone. It sucks!
BTW, I used HTC Touch before and its GPS could identify the location very quickly.
have you test with the GPS fix (in hidden menu) ?
Actually you are wrong, GPS in very good in OB.
I used it for a trip of 700 KM and it has difficulty only the first time when it aquires a position (this is normal if you don't use AGPS) like 3-4 minutes...
On the road I turned off GPS by simply locking the screen (IGO8), and on relaunch the GPS position will not take more than 30 seconds. I don't have any data on my contract so it was purely GPS!
The first time it's normal to take a very long time because a large number of sattelites have to be aquired to for pin-point accuracy. Afterword I think it works with 2-3 visible sattelites!
My previous phone was a HTC Diamond, and it was exactly the same if I dind't used the GPS app every day that downloaded sattelites in advance.
It works but it's slow (as it should be). For me it's around 1 minute in hidden menu. Best place for testing outside hidden menu is Compass app (If you don't have data connection for maps)
For hidden menu:
1. Go into the LG hidden menu (3845#*970#)
2. Go into GPS Test
Test it (you need activated GPS of course)
if it's really slow, try this (I think it's if you use network to pinpoint but everyone is suggesting it, so I will too)
1. Go into System Settings
2. SULP Setting -> SLP Server Setting
create new:
Nokia (slp address: supl.nokia.com, port: 7275, no cert and no TLS setting)
If it still doesn't work, try other variants (LGE SUPL, Spirent, etc).
Thanks everyone!
It works now! The. GPS is quite sensitive!

In the gps test in the hidden menu, there's not such option as gps fix.
Me too, I'm interested in using my gps without the assistance of the network cells. I've already tried the three supl servers and it doesn't seems to work for me. So, if someone knows how to use it without network assistance I'll be really grateful.
Thanks in advance.
It should work out of the box.. afaik, you don't need to mess with the SLP servers unless you are using some sort of assisted GPS mode (with wifi or 3g connection). I'm using it straight out of the box (after installing the fresh firmware) and it works normal in the car (1-2 minutes first fix, a couple of seconds for any other subsequent fix). Getting a first fix while on foot does take a bit longer, but that's true with all the other non-android devices I've had. the OB has normal (no more, no less) sensitivity when it comes to GPS.
i think there it`s a problem in OB mine has problems with gps too , and already o try`d all kind of apps and even use the gps standalone from the fresh new update soft and nothing , fix the gps for the first time and after then i can`t travel with standalone gps

[Q] Get many satellite ,but GPS locate so a long time

Hi!
I use Topogigi 2.0, sp1, sp2 and sp3 with Neoblaze kernel ,and finish GPSFIX.
My setting about gps.conf is below:
NTP_SERVER=tw.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.nokia.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
And my setting about GPS test (1809#*990# Hidden Menu)
MOLR Protocol = User Plane
SULP Setting part
SLP Server = Nokia (port 7276) without TLS Setting
SLP Auto Provision is on
Misc. = Auto Cold Start is on
Get Position setting part
Session type = Tracking
Open Mode = MS-Based
That's all about my GPS setting.
When I open GPS , it can get 5~7 satellites in 10~15 seconds.
But it finished locating in few minutes ,not in few seconds.
Before flash this rom ,I can get GPS position in less than 1 minute.
So I think some settings I have problems or need to fix.
Thank you!

I can quickly get many satellites, but finish position need to take a long time.
It's about wifi or 3G network?
It's Wifi, you can't lock satellites while Wifi is on.
Have you tried to turn GPS on, then reboot your phone? It works for some people, and then you have to leave your GPS on, it dosn't drain battery as long as no app is using it.

[Q] Rebuild of Leaked V20o Gingerbread - 3g + Gps Issue

Hi All,
After Insteall the rom (Rebuild of Leaked V20o Gingerbread Update), I've realized there is an annoying issue with my 3g and GPS.
When I'm using 3g, and I try to open any kind of application that uses GPS, my 3g connection is automatically disconnected and after a couple of seconds it returns, it's a small issue, but in the end it's a crap!
Is there anyne else having this issue? Do you know any kind of solution?
Best Regards
Jeferson
