[Q] Forgot Password (Can't wipe data from recovery menu) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have forgotten my Galaxy S I9000 Passcode. No google account, No security question, nothing!
I tried entering recovery mode and use wipedata/reset factory option. but then again it asks for password and I dont have anything
Furthermore, I can't connect the device to pc so I can backup my data because it asks me to enable USB debugging but I can't access the menu to do so.
Now I have 2 questions:
1- Is there anyway that I can backup my data? (Not Rooted)
2- Do I have to enable USB debugging in order to flash the device and install a fresh firmware? Is it possible that I brick my phone during the procedure if USB debugging is disabled?
Thanks

I'm not sure what's the easiest way to solve this.
What I do know is that flashing a .tar for the original Samsung GB rom through ODIN will probably solve this. You can still enter download mode right? If you haven't heard of ODIN and download mode try searching for it on google or these forums.

If you have failed to have enable USB debugging, what you can do is flash a semaphore kernel and use CWM recovery to either crack the pattern lock or use mounts and storage to copy your entire SD card to PC
you can also try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844032

[Q] Trying again: Rom with USB debugging set by default?

Hello,
I've got a stock Galaxy S ROM (factory reset - silly, don't ask) with a Speedmod Kernel and a broken screen. Do you know of a ROM (uploadable using ODIN) which turns USB debugging on by default?
Thanks in advance.
Dont know of a ROM that can do that but voodoo has a debug mode option. Its not the same as usb debug but maybe it will help. If you get into recovery i or someone else can give you directions (how many and which keypresses can get you to it) to activate it.
If your trying to access the device via ADB im fairly sure you can access it in recovery.
Why do you need debug mode? If its to replace the screen by Samsung I have read they don't care or look at the software, just replace it and see if it works..
Can't find much information about it, but it might just be a logging option rather than a control.
I haven't been able to access the device in recovery mode via ADB yet. Possibly missing recovery mode through improper key-press timing due to the broken screen, but not sure.
USB debugging enables control of the phone via the computer using ADB and utilities such as "Android Screencast".

[Q] Display broken but no USB Debuging enabled

Hi
I read some Threads already but none of them helped me.
That is why i´m sorry that there is a new threat with the same things that are already in the forum. But nothing helped me.
My display is broken but i have secured my SGS 1 before ==>
USB Deb disabled and also by connecting to a PC you have to push on the display for selecting what to do (USB drive, Kies, ...)
I can not press anything on the display because it is broken. I tried already some programs to get my photos from the phone. But every tool requires USB deb. to be enabled.
Is there any reason to get to my data?
Please help!!!
Do you have CWM Recovery installed?
You are able to mount the sdcard from cwm recovery.
If you don't have it, just flash gingerbread bootloader. You can find guide from Insanity cm thread how to do it.
CWM Recovery is not installed
I will try to flash / Lets have a look at the thread
There is also the problem that USB Deb. has to be enabled respectively to have a display which is working

My galaxy cannot connect usb

Hi All...my phone upgrade to 2.3.6 then cannot connect to PC via usb it show "hardware not recognize..even my phone go in download mode odin also cannot detect my phone..here is the step i was taken
- factory reset
- wipe
- use *#7284# change to usb in PDA mode
- change 6 usb cable.
- try 2 difference laoptop
- install latest samsung kies
- install latest samsung driver
- uninstall driver ,use ccleaner clean registry and install driver again.
- check debugging mode and mass storage
any more idea to solve the problem cause previously before i upgrade my phone can connect to PC..is it update to 2.3.6 must use difference driver?
So i decide to flash rom use external sdcard.
But my recovery mode is 3e so i cannot install CWM..
I found one method to replace the recovery file at XDA..
i try but wonder why when i boot in to recovery mode the recovery file will auto go back to the original file so i cannot install update.zip to install CWM..
Any one can help..i just want to flash back the old rom..
very thanks..
are you using an USB hub?
I noticed that my phone sometimes has trouble connecting fully functional when I don't plug in the USB cable directly in an USB port of my laptop. (only charging, no data transfer possible otherwise)
No...i am not using any usb hub...i direct connect to my usb...
So your phone is working well but u can't connect to PC or phone is dead !!!
If phone is ok then use 'SGS kernel flasher' or 'mobile odin' to flash new kernel (like semaphore kernel) to have CWM.

[Q] SGS+ I9001: Display bricked, how to save data?

Hello everybody.
My phone's display is bricked. In the meantime already bought a Samsung Galaxy Nexus but nevertheless I would like to save all the data from my internal SGS+ storage. The difficulties I have are:
1. no chance to unlock the phone after boot, cause I don't know where to push the buttons
2. no chance to get into recovery
3. no idea, if it is possible and how i could maybe save the data via download mode?!
So, does anybody of you know a possible way to get the data from my internal sd on my computer? besides i would like to reset the phone afterwards to prepare it for sale. any ideas for that?!
Thank you all for help!

is your phone rooted and can you use adb shell?
then you can dump the partitions
edit: if you have succesfully all data restored, flash a stock rom with odin, before you will give the device away (all your personal data will gone)

if you had the usb debugging active then it`s easy, just start it, download from web QtADB or Android Commander (google them), connect phone to PC and if it`s recognized then all you have to do is to copy from it all you want/need
if you don`t have usb debugging then you have to find a way to mount internal storage in recovery doing it blind isn`t hard, you just need 2 screenshots from exactly the same recovery you had installed on your SGS+ then use one of those programs above to copy from your phone. (I think recovery can be accesed w.o. usb debugging enabled by default)

yeah, my phone's rooted and i've already flashed different ROMs with ODIN - thanks so far.
but I've never used the Android SDK and adb shell before, so I have no idea how to connect the phone (via usb mount in recovery? via download mode? boot normally without unlocking it?) and how to use the adb with which commands!?

Thanks for the tools, look helpful and as I remember, USB debugging was activated. But should this even work, if my phone is still locked (with this Android-security pattern and SIM-lock as no PIN can be entered)?
Finally thanks for your quick feedbacks!

ofc it will work as long your phone is rooted (for the system access) and usb debugging on. The pin doesn`t lock you phone entirely, just the SIM
I tried QtADB and it's great! Exactly what I've been looking for, thanks! The better alternative for people who are not used to the adb shell and easy to use for some basic tasks.
edit: faced some problems while copying data with QtADB, therefore tried Android Commander and could copy all files properly

You may have to try restore stock firmware using odin. Did u try this method to get into download mode? Disconnect the USB cable from ur phone but keep the cable plugged into your computer. Then hold down Bixby+Vol Down and then plug the usb cable in.
Its not possible but before install wrong twrp i has selected options "Nand erase" and "Auto Rebooting"
OK...
Not to be a ****, but.....
Welcome to Bricksville, population - you...
IF, and it's a big if, you can get your hands on a download mode dongle it might, not 100% sure, but just might get you into download mode if you haven't deleted the bootloader completely...
You will need a micro-usb to usb c dongle as well...
I haven't tried this on my Note 9 but it might work...
Then you should be able to flash stock rom (make sure it is your stock rom with matching CSC and everything) through ODIN, DON'T tick NAND erase as this might/will delete your IMEI (if you haven't done so already)...
Good luck...
