[Q] Cannot send GMail attachements from SD Card (CM10) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using CM10 on Galaxy Note, and cannot send GMail attachments when the attached file is stored on an external sd card.
The logcat has the following error:
file:// attachment paths must point to file:///storage/sdcard0. Ignoring attachment [obscured file path]
In gmail app, attachments looks like "real" but when a message is sent, no files are attached.
I tried that many times with different file types. It does not work when I pick files with root explorer, neither with total commander.
Strangely enough, QuickPic doesn't seem to be affected by this problem, but it can only attach pics and video.
This bug was confirmed on yet another Galaxy Note with the same setup (cm10, totalcmd).
Any ideas? is this expected behavior?

i too have the same problem
if anyone could look into this

may be its a mount point issue, seems the storage is not mounted to the right place.

"Messages" wouldn't run

Hello,
incredible but true, on my P3600 "Messages" would not run any more.
I cannot access the whole Messages software (inbox, draft,...): no sign of life clicking on the icon (the envelope), neither from Start->Programs->Messages nor from SPB Phone Suite.
Calendar and Notes in Pocket Outlook continue working well.
So now I cannot access to email nor SMS.
When I send an SMS from another mobile to my P3600, I see the P3600 screen becoming active (only the brightness) but no notify message appears. It seems that the Messages software doesn't load in memory any more even if I click the "tmail.exe" file in file Explorer
I am using WM5 (with official ROM) and in last days I have upgraded Pocket Plus to 4.0.1; I also use other SPB software as Phone Suite (1.1.1), Weather, ...
Unfortunately there are no changes removing Pocket Plus
Anyone faced a problem like this?
Thank you
Are you storing attachments on the miniSD?
Yes
the SD (Sandisk 2GB) seems to work
do you know how to modify the settings? I couldn't reach them because they're in Messages.
thank you
I'm not sure if that's the cause of your problem, but my Mail directory got corrupted once and messaging refused to start, like it happens to you. Try to rename the directory to Mail_ so that messaging recreates the dir again. You can change the attachment storage location on the messaging options.
thank you Apoc,
anyway yesterday evening I made an hard reset. I have tried to install a backup but the problem arose again so I decided to re-install all without backup.
I take your advice for the next time...because re-installing all I had on my P3600 there is a chance to face the same problem soon
thank you, really
I have same problom...
Please help

Did you try to run mailaccountrepair? You can download here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328467&page=2

This worked for me. Thanks!!
Did you store the messages' attachment on SD?
if you haven't fix the problem with mailaccountrepair, you could try formatting the miniSD (first copy all the files on your PC).
I have read this advise on another forum
It seems that it could be a problem of corruption of the attachment stored on SD.

I try to make a list of action from the Apoc's advice:
1. Using file explorer, rename the directory (probably on your SD) where Messages store the attachments (from "Mail..." to another name)
2. soft-reset
3. try to access Messages again (the envelope icon in Programs)
4. if Massages opens, it will create a new directory named "Mail..." in which the attachments will be stored, but you will not have the old attachments in Messages
Then you could try to copy the files that are the dir you have renamed to the dir that Messages has just created
if Messages doesn't open, try mailaccountrepair (as written by emay) or hard-reset (as I did)

Need Help - Problem with Mail Attachments

Lately I have been unable to open mail attachments via either my yahoo or xpress mail. I have tried the obvious (uninstalled / reinstalled my mailboxes, deleted the self-creating Windows/Messaging and Inbox.mstxxxxxxxxxx folders). No success. The attachments appear to successfully download (I can see them on the storage card) and the email contains a "live link" to click the attachment, but when I do so, I get a message saying 'unable to display attachment'.
This is really frustrating, because it used to work perfectly. I have spent hours trying to fix this without success. All my mail is saved to my 8GB storage card, so storage should not be an issue.
Any thoughts or help would be really appreciated. I REALLY do not want to do a hard reset. Thanks in advance.
Bump. Anyone? Any help would REALLY be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
you have deleted folder "Connections" in program files folder.....create this path in program files folder of your phone memory(not memory card) connections/mail attachments.
That worked. Thanks you VERY much for your help. I really appreciate it.

[Q] Cannot exclude folders from Album app

Hello,
Can anybody tell me how i can exclude some folders which contain images from showing up in my Album ?
i found a few replies regarding this in other forums but none of them worked and I tried asking in talk.sonymobile.com but it was useless.
I tried the .nomedia file creation method, Quickpic method and adding dot to the folder name method.
I tried all those methods to prevent the pics that i get via whatsapp from not being shown in my album. As you may know the pics that we download via whatsapp gets stored inside "Whatsapp images" folder.
I tried to put a blank .nomedia file into the folders and then cleared cache and data of both Album app and Media storage. Then after doing all that i rebooted my phone. I can still see the pictures in there in my Album app once i add a new pic into the folder.
Am running .253
i would really appreciate it if anybody could help me out
I am 100% positive that there are many people who would love to have a solution for this.
If you need anymore info then do please let me know.

the .nomedia way worked for me. but the trick is cleaning data and cache of the media server/media storage (don't know the exact name at the moment) in settings->apps, and then restarting the phone.
after a restart, album will be empty and start rescanning your storage. when finished, you'll see that there won't be the .nomedia folders included anymore.

CM 10.1.3 - Cannot open PDF or Videos

Hi,
I recently installed the 10.1.3 and I love the stability of the ROM. I recently tried to read some magazines on the Nook & I'm facing a peculiar problem where I cannot open any PDF files, EPUB or even Video files. I tried putting the files on the Nook memory and the SD Card too. All Apps (Aldiko, MX Player, etc.) return back the error "Could not load file".
I can't seem to understand what could be the problem here. All files work well on the computer, but nothing on the nook. Could it be a file permission restriction?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I can't help but I am also running 10.1.3 and don't have your issues. I didn't change any settings other than for the launcher. Could there be a problem with the gapps version you installed?
Sent from my BN Nook HD using xda app-developers app
Open the web browser and if you can read a normal pdf and view a video from youtube then your files are simply not compatible.
Suppose they could be getting corrupted. You didn't say if you tried them from the computer via the sdcard.
I transferred the files from the computer to the internal memory and the SD card, but to no avail. It says "Video could not be loaded" or "File could not be loaded", if a pdf does load - it usually comes as a blank white screen.
How do I check if I have installed the correct Gapps version? I did try and open a pdf from the web browser, I faced the same problem.

Go into Google play and download "Foxit MobilePdf". You should be golden.
[I may have forgotten earlier, that possibly all mobile web browser's can't view pdf files, or at least the one(s) you have can't do so. For instance, Firefox downloads them, but can't view them. You would still need a viewer, which I think you never installed one on android and hence your problem.]

Sweet, so this one will start binding automatically on reboot huh? Gonna try.
UPDATE:
Doesn't work mate, i tried "$bind $extsd/mangabird $intsd/mangabird", but it says "/mangabird: not found". The log said "sdcard not found".
For me to no working. Log says all ok. But when i copy some to internal Download, i dont see this file in external Download.
$bind $extsd/.fbind/Download $intsd/Download
Lig:
>>> FOLDER BINDER DEBUG LOG > Thu Jun 15 01:51:22 CEST 2017
Configuration updated. Reboot to apply changes. > Thu Jun 15 01:51:22 CEST 2017
I reboot twice.

Ok, your issue is simple, mate. If the log says, "SD card not found! Aborting..." try a higher number of seconds. That means your device just takes a little bit longer to mount the external SD card. I've added several zips, each with a different number of seconds to the Downloads page. Try the 15 seconds variant. As you may have noticed, the sooner the bind is performed, the better. I'm currently working on a way to automate that and have only one variant for all devices, regardless of mounting time.

Hmm... have you created the target folders manually in the external SD card? @khnoizer, see here? In his case, the SD card is mounted within the 10 seconds mark. Thanks both of you for the reports.
Yes. I created folder Download in extcard.

Just to be sure...
Code:
$bind $extsd/.fbind/Download $intsd/Download
means you must have the following:
Download folder in your internal SD card
.fbind folder (yes, with the dot) in your external SD card with a Download folder inside of it
is that your setup?
I got permission denied or write error when saving my edited fbind_list.txt on various text editor. Any suggestions?

You can copy the file to another location, edit it, then replace the old one. Alternatively, running chmod 777 /data/media/0/fbind_list.txt in a terminal emulator before edition the file should also help. The next version will fix fbind_list.txt permissions automatically upon installation.
Edit: @khnoizer, I use QuickEdit. It asks for root permission in your case to work properly.
Edit 2: sorry, the link is fixed now.
Sorry for a silly question but does this basically do the same as foldermount?

Yes, but unlike FolderMount, it saves your settings and runs on boot.
@op can you tell me if I bind my download folder(size 5gb) then my internal memory in storage settings will show less then 5gb size or stroage setting still include 5gb in total used memory?
The new version are great, thank you. However, when I tried to bind my android/obb folder, it does got mounted at data/media/0/android/obb, but It's empty at mnt/storage/emulated/0/android/obb. And when I tried to play some games they asked me to download their obb files.

Here's what you need to do to bind OBB:
1. Install the OBB fix update
2. You don't need to copy your setup to the newer fbind_list.txt this time. Just delete that file and rename your previous_fbind_list.txt back to fbind_list.txt (there are no changes in the template. I just forgot to disable the auto backup/renaming)
3. Add the following lines to fbind_list.txt:
Code:
$bind $extd/Android/obb/YourAppOrGameOBBFolder $obb/YourAppOrGameOBBFolder
$bind $extd/Android/obb/YourAppOrGameOBBFolder $intsd/Android/obb/YourAppOrGameOBBFolder
Or, if you want to bind the entire OBB folder, the following lines are already present in the template (fbind_list.txt) by default:
Code:
$bind $extd/Android/obb $obb
$bind $extd/Android/obb $intsd/Android/obb
4. Reboot
That's a lot of text, I know. Everything will be much simpler in the next version. Stay tuned!

That's still an ongoing issue, unfortunately. However, it has nothing to do with the module. Rather, that's a system problem, since other apps don't misreport storage space. I'll look for a workaround.
Edit: I forgot to say that you mentioned the wrong person. "op" shouldn't be there!

i tried your fix, for pairing entire obb, internal pairs to extsd but /sdcard/Android/obb appears to have vanished but I believe it is there because trying to re-create directory results in an error. if I start up a game however, it aplears to be aware of the game data existence but the game freezes. strange?
let me know is you need any specific files, perhaps fstab?
