hello ppl,
I'm planning to buy Samsung galaxy S soon but I heard that Android gingerbread is coming out soon too so I want to ask:
1-will it be better to wait till Gingerbread to be out and then buy a device that has it already? if yes how much would this take?
2-would there be a huge difference between Froyo which we can get on the Sgs and gingerbread that will worth the waiting if its long?
3-is there any chance for Sgs to get gingerbread as an official update ? or its hardware cant run it?
4-any remarks about the price of the devices that will come with it when it comes out?
btw I'm normal user and my usage isnt that heavy or needs very high specs but still if its worth it to w8 please answer the questions
P.S srry if i'm posting under wrong section or asking an already answered stuff
thanks
2.3 (gingerbread) wont come out to SGS till next year beacause of SGS screen problem. <-------- What screen problem?!!!!
So you might aswell buy a SGS OR HTC DE HD.

Did i miss some news some where?
I've never heard of a screen problem on the SGS
there have been single instances here and there, but nothing major like the internal SD problems...
back on topic
1) it will depend on the manufacture, don't count on Samsung, HTC will have it out before Samsung as usual
2) is hard to say, unless we can play with 2.3 there is no way to compare it to 2.2
3) yes it can run it, and eventually it will be released just like 2.2, knowing Samsung and their horrible customer service, 2.3 will be out like on 2012, if it took them so long to release 2.2 (2010/2011)
4) prices are all guess work, there is no way of knowing until the device is advertised by the carriers
thanks to all who replied but can u guys plz just stick to the 4 questions i asked

Well, to answer all 4 at once:
GingerBread is not out yet, only speculation are made as of now.
Nobody knows if it'll be out for SGS, nobody knows what will be the Nexus S (or 2), no one can tell if it will be released to the public.
So, basicaly, if you'r waiting on speculation, you can wait a long time!
And, when it's out, another device will be rumored and will be the next best hype!

1) If you have the patience, then maybe wait for gingerbread. Only thing is tho, when gingerbread comes out, im sure something new will be leaked out and then you're gonna want to wait for that. Gingerbread is to be released soon i believe.
2) I think for differences on the SGS, gingerbread MIGHT not be as smooth as froyo or eclair, mainly because who knows if samsung will release an official update, or if it will have to be a ported version. Having said that, i find froyo to be much smoother than eclair (using docs bell rom V1.1)
3) I think the SGS will be able to handle gingerbread hardware wise, seeing as how the tab is supposed to get it, and the SGS and tab are somewhat similar in the hardware department
4) Prices will likely be similar to the prices of the phones that are out right now, anywhere from 300 - 600 i would say, depending on if you take the contract way or buy it outright.
well so to conclude
should i wait for a gingerbread device to come and buy it or just buy Sgs now ?
- If I were you, I would buy the SGS now.
- Who cares if it gets gingerbread or not, its a very nice phone as it is.
+1
Get the SGS, its an excellent device out of the box. If you want a little monster just add Lagfix; if you want to experiment, upgrade to 2.2 and so on until you brick it and you end up in these forums crying for help lol jk
If you "wait" you will WAIT forever, cause when you get a device with gingerbread 2 days after you will see a new device with honeycomb. If you wait for honeycomb then you will have a dilemma with Icecream, or waffles or LOLCAKES or w/e the next release is called
and so on... you will spend the rest of your life "waiting" ... like a slogan says.. JUST DO IT!!
Hope that helps

Exactly.
I don't even understand why they would do this...do they not realize that there is a pretty decent amount of customers who buy their phones based on the fact they're completely open to customization?
I feel like this would hurt them more than it could ever help them.
It's coming home, it's coming, my Blackberry's coming home, it's coming home.

I've been thinking the same thing.
There goes the only developer-friendly phone maker..
I guess that means we want see any root access/development/custom roms for the Incredible S.
Not neccessarily, as I've already posted in the rooting thread, this was already known about and hasn't stopped us yet. Please be patient and stop spreading FUD
Does this mean we will never see csutom roms, or does this mean we'll have to wait until it's cracked?

I Fully agree. It's a pitty HTC wants in on the control over my device game...
I also hate that they want to control our devices. My next device probably wont be an HTC anymore also, however i do like the fooling arround with my phone. id rather would have it rooted quite easily, but i dont hate it they require some manual actions, since it saves a lot of people from having malware on there phones, but hell.... this one is over the top.
Probably have the IS for the next 2 years, so got enough time to play with it haha.
@DaanJordaan
having a motorola milestone with a signature-locked bootloader i can say, that custom roms ARE available... the key-difference is, that the signature-checking bootloader only boots signed kernels. everything else can be replaced with custom-made files. as an exaple: CyanogenMod ist available for the milestone, but without the enhanced kernel.
which in essence means:
custom roms: yes
custom kernels: no
i don't know how big the difference betweet the moto-bootloader and the htc-bootloader is. but if it's somehow similar, custom roms without custom-kernels will work. which indeed sucks... but that's still better than no custom roms at all... let's just hope htc produces very well coded kernels...
I dont think its "HTC" who wants to control rhe device, i've heard its the carriers that are asking for the bootloader to be singed, so they dont have to replace a brick device someone tried ro hack,
Just be thankfull they only signed it and not encrypted it like motorola.

No it doesn't. Maybe in the US it does. I can buy a OEM Incredible S with no association with any carrier by paying full price, but seems like even these factory HTC devices are bootloader signed.

Its probably easier for HTC to just push all the incredible s's through the same production line.

Don't stress on this. ~1hour after it was identified on the thunderbolt, it was bypassed.
Don't go returning phones or quitting android over this.
I hope it will get rooted, I have just sold my HTC Desire, and am looking either to get the Nexus S or this. I have every confidence in the Dev guys to crack it.
HTC really have done something silly, the only reason the Desire sold so well was because it could get rooted so easily and allowed people to do anything they liked to it!
If this info is confirmed then the LG Optimus 2X is the best new phone!
I like HTC but I am not a fanboy fanatic to limit Android to HTC devices
Well guys im going to buy my first android on 18 July .! n im really confused by the comments n going through all the treads about the reboot related problems of this phone .! n now im really scared to buy this phone also i want a future proof phone as this will be my last phone from parents n i can buy my next phone after 3-4 yrs only ..! So guys plz help me weather to buy this phone or not .! Even if i get a defective piece will the problem be corrected in future updates or i will have to keep a defective phone for the next 4 years .! Also as in from india does India getting too much defective pieces ? or its just with some people when it comes to India ..
waiting for your suggestion ..!
Based on *my* experience I would not buy this phone again. It's unstable (over 60 recorded reboots since I bought the phone on April 18) and lacks proper support from LG (why does this not surprise me?). In my opinion, LG, again, fails to deliver on it's promises and keeps on spreading lies on whether or not an "update" fixes the reboot problem. I don't see this phone last for more than 2 years of intensive use, let alone 4 years. In that case, go for another brand although I won't start suggesting specific models.
FYI: I'm an experienced Android and used nearly every ROM available to remedy the problems I experienced.
Personally I think this phone is great. I hardly get any reboots or problems.
Install CM7, Paul's Modaco rom or the latest stock release and you'll be fine.

So mate u haven't got any problem like this before ? i mean the phone is all ok for ya ? rit ?
I'm also a happy owner of the 2x, that is however because I was able to buy it at less than half the retail price from the company I work at. As a lot of people already have mentioned the phones hardware is really good and by flashing custom ROM's like cm7 or Modace the phone becomes "ok" for everyday usage. However for a smartphone valued over 500€ it is way to buggy to stand up among its competitors in the same price range. Seriously; I simple cannot understand why anybody would buy this phone instead of, for example, the SII or the HTC Sensation. The 2x is a nice phone, no doubt about that, but I would seriosly save a couple of bucks and buy one of the other phones I mentioned = better hardware and working software + working customer support. (btw the camera is also lousy compared to the SII and Sensation - even with the HD mods...)
I'm not a LG hater, and I'm really happy with my 2x - seriously most people are still pretty much amazed by my phone when I'm toying aroung with it running cm7 with SPB Shell 3D, [email protected] 1,5ghz, dsp manager etc. but yeah It seriously cannot be compared to a Sensation or SII
I haven'd hat any reboot both with stock rom and custom roms. In my opinion stock rom was quite well usable except the battery drain. But Paul fixed it quite good, which makes it possible to charge the phone every second day with reasonable constant usage
kind regards
I cant compare to a Sensation or a SII since I haven't touched them but for me at this stage the LG is SUPER. Hope you made a good choice and that you are happy with it!
you buy't
I am a new user of this wonderfull phone. i have waiting a lot of time this phone because is like samsung s2 on the performance but on a price much afordable. On this phone you pay only the hardware and software of the amazing android but on the HTC and Samsung a 10% you pay the logo, the brand. good luck and from my experience i recomend't
I´m very satisfied whit my LG and haven´t had any problems whit it

same here.. great quality and "open" like a google dev phone haha
I have it from the early begining and used only with MoDaCo ROMs , had no problems. Would buy it again.
Actualy I believe that most of the problems other have is because of basebands version incompatibility with instaled RIL...
I like my LG 2X. To me it has the best spec for the price range and good ROM from Paul and CM7. But if money is not a problem, get galaxy S2.
Hi Guyz
I like playing with custom roms & mods recently i use optimus one than Defy i enjoy both of them than i got OB i bought this just bocz its low cost with high specs but after entering to OB thread i saw that there is not much dev here for our OB and very few custom roms available for us after spending 2mnth my favorite rom & his maker lives his job i m taking about Knzo i m really so now i m got offer from 1 person on net to exchange his galaxy s i9000 with my OB so i need some advice from all of u guyz what should i do?
Thanks for ur valuable time for reading & helping me
I really don`t think that guy offerd you his galaxy S for your OB just because OB doesn`t have so much dev support, I think he did it just because OB it`s a better device and in a short matter of time will get much more custom roms than we have right now. we almost have CM 7.1 working now....I`m using it as my daily use right now and it`s awsome. be patient, OB will be a great phone
I used to have a galaxy s i9000 and i was pretty happy, but i know this same feeling is approaching to our LG OPTIMUS BLACK...and i can barely wait for mui roms, cm7 roms...and later on gingerbread update so....stay tuned....
the best for the patience one
just wait for the complete CM7
I have this phone and Samsung Galaxy S2 although GS2 beats it in every test
some odd reason I prefer the Optimus Black and it will be so much better with Gingerbread so my advise is be patient like the rest of us
I think you shoul keep OB it's great and have so many native features that you don't need to download this and that to make those things [i.e. screen shot] even the factory rom, kernel, etc, are good I don't have any of those just rooted it and works pretty awesome actually
If you love to play with roms I think you better go with Google phones like the Nexus ones. Otherwise, keep the OB.
Hey, be patient, wait stable and fast CM release
Yesterday I find a way to take 3500+ in quadrant It is a very nice score. OB look very nice, and has a briliant display, anything is good.
Thanks to all of u guyz today i found a Chinese website over there i found many custom roms for OB i m downloading now lets see how its works

Give a try of this phone man,
for this price i dont think it is a better phone at the moment Its really nice build quality really
May be thats only me,but i really dislike the feel of a Samsungs for now wtf
The difference is like You take example: cheap amplifier and the nice Onkyo one.... you feel it really when use the device itself or an Acer compared to Thinkpad
I hope this will change with Nexus Prime

Well, i have a chance to buy a P990. But when i see a top phone with low prices i suspect something is very wrong with it... and low prices are not only for the phone i found, is to all P990, so the problem should be with all of them...

the P990 is like heaven if you want to try custom roms
Even if you manage to brick it, just install a Stock-Rom with NVflash, and it is back alive in 95% of all brick-situations. The only way to destroy it is the hardware-side, like smacking it with a sledgehammer
Very large user base all over the world, and a wide bandwith of CustomRoms that run stable and nearly bugfree.
The official ICS-Stock-Rom is also running pretty good with it But if you ever used a custom rom, or tried one once, you never want to go back to stock on any device
When I ask about ICS is because I've seen some posts where users say that ICS update for this device comes with some bugs and that was worst than previous version.
But when I see all yours answers I believe that this is good phone and good choice.

Btw rvrosa, ICS is working quite good, CM7 is perfect (but oldie if you had tried JBo ICS xD) and devs are working hard to give us a good experience with 4.2.1 and 4.1.2... and yes, it is very easy to flash any rom, and its really hard to brick this phone (someone said 95% of briks are back alive? If you get a locked phone, regardless of brand or carrier, it is easy to unlock - just identify the original carrier it was locked to, get the IMEI, submit that info plus $8 to cellunlocker.net, then boot the phone with any other SIM inside, and enter the code
Good job on getting the One X, great buy and way better than the P990... I like my P990 but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone in 2013, even those on a budget, since the better models from late 2011/early 2012 would be at a decent price by then.

No... the phone is unlocked from factory
Was in different language but when i put my sim card he asked me if want to import my sim card configurations or something like that and... guess what? I get the phone in my language lololol
I've bought it very cheap for that reason and for some small scratches. The only ones that i have some scare are in the front of the camera... the worst case scenario is i have to change the phone case, but i don't think this scratches affect pictures as they are in side and not in the middle.
So far very happy with it :victory:
Hi,
I got this phone after i sold my 3GS.I really enjoyed the extra core and the hdmi out(i even sold my htpc as i didnt need it anymore!)
but missed the smoothness and attention to detail of the ios.
Having said that it took me 5 days of reading to jailbreak the iphone and around 10 minutes to root the 2x.
I kept it stock because life is short and i didnt want to loose warranty.
I agree with the friend who said its a galaxy s2 class phone.I was considering the s2 ass well but the lg had a better bang for a buck at the time.
IMHO there is nothing wrong with it except for the never ending progress of technology, its just not top dog anymore.
