Today I decided to root my captivate and was unsuccessful with the super one click. I then decided to do it manually with the update.zip. After I finished rebooting with recovery mode I saw the su app. I then tried to use titanium backup and it said that it could not get root permission. Could someone please help me figure out what went wrong and help me get a successful root so I can enable normally apps.

Did you enable USB Debugging for the one click method? Is your captivate I896? More info please.
I did enable usb debugging and my model number is I897

Should I flash back to stock with odin and then try to root
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
What ROM are you running?
Titanuim Backup probably wasn't given su permissions.
1. Have you tried rebooting it. Sometimes all it needs is a simple reboot and when you start TB, it will ask for su permissions.
2. Go to superuser. If you see titanium backup, click on it, forget, and reboot.
Just oneclickstock, load your ROM, and root again.
Maybe it's an app that's getting in the way?

Seems like you are still on stock kernel, so do not wipe or factory reset again, it will brick your phone. Check recovery, if its still stock then go to Dr.ketan's thread in android dev sticky for rooting and root your phone using method 1. First flash root_supersu zip only (may be you already have busybox installed) and if that doesnt give full root then flash root_busybox zip as well.

Try installing chainfire su app from play store. And download root checker app to see if you have root access.

I suppose he flashed cfroot kernel....AFAIK it looks more like a stock kernel with stock recovery. So you cannot confirm by see if its rooted or not.

Try flashing speed mod kernel. It has a feature which roots the phone at first boot if the phone hasn't rooted already.

Got it, your problem is just that you have uninstalled supersu, you can flash the latest supersu zip from chainfires thread or directly flash speedmod or hydracore kernel using pc odin but only if you are on ics.

No!!!if you go for the su.zip method, put the zip in SD card, reboot into recovery, flash the zip.
If you go for the speed mod/hydracore method, download the kernel of your choice which in tar extension and flash it through ODIN.
Edit:I have some doubt that there maybe a conflict between the su binary and super user app.If you have supersu and open it,does it ask for binary update???And after clicking update does it say update failed by any chance???

OK all sorted i had to install chain fire super su instead of chain dd super user but all worked wel and i have a sped mod kernal to XD thanks for that
CANT THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH FOR ALL YOUR HELP LEARNT SO MUCH
im definetly sticking round here!
If you want to use super user, just install it from the market or make a restore if have one, and open it, than it will ask for updating su binary. Only after that you can uninstall super su. Actually Chainfire mentioms this method on his supersu on the market.

Just reroot with bin4ry's latest root tool. It fixes the issue. Some roms still use the old root files where there's an issue when you mount rw, forcing your phone to reboot.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
I've tried rerooting with bin4ry's latest v30 root, but I have tried several times, but in Superuser app I get the same thing : su binary not found and then I've unistalled the Superuser application, and flashed from CWM the SuperSU.zip from Chainfire, now SuperSU is working, BUT I have the same problem : the phone reboots when mounting.
What should I do?
Thanks
Might not work but try binary v26
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Ok I will try it now.
L.E. : Thank you, it worked!
Yesterday was working fine, but now isnt working anymore the only difference is that I've installed through CWM the PureX soundMOD. Guess I have to reroot again? ) Any other solutions?
Solution :
adb shell
su
stop ric
then mount system with root explorer and delete /system/bin/ric
After that OTA doesn't work anymore.
Am I the only one who has this problem? Today after trying to paste an apk to system/app , forced reboot, and then another one after the SONY logo.
What should I do to get rid of this idiot problem?

Same problem here. Root Explorer to change R/W of /system, or copy a fire there make a reboot. Just re-root with Easy rooting Toolkit for XPEIRA Z SO-02E (ver 1.0.2) and works fine by far now, but not sure if it will happen again. (Rooted with bootloader BLOCKED)
I got another problem now, I've fully unrooted the phone with the SuperSU option, and now neither of rooting variants works. They stuck at here :
http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/8058/24461260.png
So no root with those methods, it worked by flashing through CWM the SuperSu.zip, but still I get forced reboots. I don't know what to do. Guess the only option is to do a full wipe, but I don't want to do that.

When you stuck there, try this: kill process adb.exe with task manager. Good luck.
Will try it when I get home. Thanks for the quick answers.
Not working : /system/bin/sh: can't create /sys/kernel/uevent_helper: Permission denied
Ok nice ...
Maybe I will reflash the firmware and do a full wipe, but I will stay like that for a while. Thank you anyway!
i've just installed a recovery and i'm stuck on STEP 3 ROOT how do i get supersu on my phone
1) You have to write here.
2) For flash the SU, download it, copy it into recovery with mount usb and flash it.
Or you can use GOOmanager to download it and install from recovery. It places it on you sd
