I've got an i9000, and I've followed the instructions on the site..
Enter CWN
Wipe data
Format /system
Then mounted /system.
Then install the zip and get this error:
"E:Error in /sdcard/Slim-I9000-2.8.0-OFFICIAL.zip"
"(Status 7)"
"Installation aborted."
"Can't mount /emmc/"
I took out my removable sdcard before doing the install so that accounts for the last message.
I had this problem with 2.7 as well.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Someone wrote something about installing 2.6 first after doing the data wipe and system format since it reconfigures the directory structure. Not sure if this is true. Any help?
i've got the same problem. i mounted system,SD data but i received the error status 7 and an error on file install.sh. now i search possibile solutions

I did have luck installing the SlimBean 2.6.0 zip file first, then the gapps.zip. Then upgraded to 2.7.0 doing a cache and dalvik cache wipe. No problems... but still can't seem to get 2.8.0 to work. Though 2.7.0 works quite nicely it seems.
I think there's an update app that is supposed to let you do it from the phone itself, but I'm not sure if that's working properly yet.
yes, i have no problems on old version. Now i'm writing through my galaxy s with cyanogenmod 10 and i want to try again slim ROM.
Had the same problem, it was working with 2.7 just fine, tried to update to 2.8 and it didn't work, read there that updating semaphore kernel would work.
Installed semaphore kernel 2.4.4s (via heimdall) and got bootloop.
Tried to flash stock (xxjvu) via heimdall; everything went smoot but
100%
PARAM upload successful
Ending session...
Rebooting device...
Re-attaching kernel driver...
phone never booted, now I can't get to download or recovery mode, phone just stays off, no lights, nothing, I think is bricked.
Just ordered a usb jig via amazon LOL
If you came from another rom then slim 2.6 or 2.7 you have to flash 3 times

i flashed again the slim bean 2.8.0 for my i9000. I come back from cm10 thus i did wipe data/factory and format system. I mounted the system partition but i have got the same story. Error status 7......problem with install.sh and all aborted.
Is this a problem with the partition layout of cm10 after the cm nightly available from 26 september?
How can i install the slim bean 2.8.0 on my galaxy s?
edit: i can't install slim 2.8.0

How to install Slim 2.8
Yes! that error is a normal step of the installation!
When you install the zip of 2.8, you get the error. Then install it again and you will reboot. Power off your phone and restart CWM, then install again the zip! after this, you can install the extras!
If you are coming from any rom apart from slim bean 2.6 and 2.7 you will need to flash it 3 times although I think the advice is to flash 2.6 and then flash 2.8 rather than flashing 2.8 directly. I am currently on 2.5 and I'll updated to 2.8 on saturday but will do it step by step 2.6 > 2.8.

What's not clear to me is when they say flash 3 times, do they mean just try installing the 2.8.0 zip 3 times? Or do a wipe cache/dalvik cache between each try? Or reboot between tries?
I've got 2.7.0 running fine but it gives me an error on the 2.8.0 flash even if I try 5 times, and that's trying both with and without cache wipes between attempts.
I went from CM10 to slim bean 2.8. All I did was factory reset, wipe + cache and dalvik cache (I didn't mount system or anything like that).
ROM installed normally, no errors and no reboots. Been using it fine for the last few hours now.

I solved the issue in this way. we assume that it is correct to try mountind the system partition but if the error continues then it isn't the solution!
The slim bean team, cunningly, modified the file "Slim-I9000-2.8.0-OFFICIAL.zip"! they changed at 2012-10-25 00:07:28 thus, all those who download the file yesterday, they have the error status 7 etc...
You redownload the slim rom and then to follow the standard procedure:
- enter in recovery
- wipe data/factory
- format system (in mount and storage menu)
- install zip from sd (or external) card
- install slim gapps
- install optional gapps
- enjoy

You are correct. Just re-downloaded the 2.8.0 zip, SREC update and Gapps update files and everything installed nicely over 2.7.0 with just a cache/dalvik cache wipe.
Nice!
very good. i like very much this ROM. fast and with many RAM.392 mb ! it already includes the semaphore kernel 2.4.4s.excellent.

Hello,
I tried to update my galaxy s via the integrated update screen on cyanogen mod to todays nightly rom update but during the android install animation it got about a third through and then went into quick recovery screen data which i couldnt read and then rebooted but to my existing version...in other words it didnt install properly.
Can anyone guide me through how to get this to update properly?
Thanks

A few nightlies ago there was a bug in the integrated CM-updater...
Have you tested it with download the zip-file ,put it on your device and flash it via CWM-Recovery ??? That`s my favorite way ...

It should work ,but i know with some of CM10.2-nightlies there was a bug and pawitp (the dev) makes a warning not to use the inbuilt updater ...but i think with the last nightlies it should work ...my way is flashing over CWM with the zip-file and not "over the air" ...
Is there any error?
You need 2 posts then you can report a bug here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385178 or i would do it for you ...

SOLVED
Thanks for your help.
I managed to flash via CWM and now everything is great - and it sorted out my earlier problems which included lack of mobile internet, constant rebooting when turning on and problems with receiving sms texts.
For all those people having similar problem - here are the easy steps to get the new nightly 10.2 rom up and running on your Galaxy S:
1) Download the latest zip file for nightly ROM and latest GAPPS zipp file onto your computer.
2) Connect your mobile to computer and turn on the storage function so that you can see your phone's storage option on my computer.
3) Copy your 2 zip files from above to your phone's storage as zip files without extracting.
4) unplug your phone from the PC, turn off and then go into CWM via volume down/home and power buttons.
5) Select install zip from SD Card and then you should see error message something like 'partition is incorrect/different and you need to wipe data - don't worry about this as you will keep all your apps, ringtones, pictures etc.
6) Install zip from SD card a second time - this should now start the install process. Install the GAPPS file once this is done.
7) Reboot and you should be faced with a Cyanogenmod registration page. Go through the completion process and then your ready to go.
8) check in about phone in your settings to see the latest update in your settings.
I hope this works for you all but as always...this is what worked for me on my Galaxy S and any mod is at your own risk and I wont accept any abuse.

Hello
I have the problem that I cannot update my i9000 from CyanogenMod 10.1.3 to 10.2.0. After the update, Cyanogenmod doesn’t start anymore. It gets stuck at the boot animation: The blue CyanogenMod-mascot within the round rotating arrow. I waited 15min for it to start, then I left the phone for 2h and it still didn’t start.
I did the update as follows:
First, I tried to update with the automatic updater from CyanogenMod, but that didn’t work. It aborted and restarted CyanogenMod 10.1.3.
So I tried it manually with ClockworkMod (v6.0.3.6):
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
This message was shown: E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Dalvik cache wiped.
- install zip -> choose zip from sdcard -> cm-10.2.0-RC1-galaxysmtd.zip
It aborted and the following message was shown:
This ROM uses an incompatible partition layout
Your /data will be wiped upon installation
Run this update.zip again to confirm install
- Did it again: install zip -> choose zip from sdcard -> cm-10.2.0-RC1-galaxysmtd.zip
Now the zip-file was installed completely.
- reboot system now
The result was that the phone got stuck at the boot animation.
Remarks:
- I didn’t do a backup of apps and data, because I didn’t have important data on the phone.
- I didn’t have root-rights in CM 10.1.3.
I tried it again with the stable version of CM 10.2.0. I didn’t have to install the zip twice anymore, but the phone still gets stuck at the boot animation. Wiping cache and dalvik cache again didn’t make it start.
I can still boot into ClockworkMod and it was also possible to go back to CM 10.1.3. Just CM 10.2 doesn’t start up.
What do I have to do to make CM 10.2 start up?
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards
Tomy
@Tomy_Delmar
Tomy, CyanogenMod is already custom ROM, there is always root access on it
Try it this way:
download Gapps for CM10.2x (Android 4.3.x) and paste them on your external SD card
put the card in your phone
run it in recovery mode
wipe cache and dalvik cache
flash Gapps for 4.3
wipe again cache and dalvik cache.
reboot
Post if it worked.

As the partition layout is different in cm10.2, you should flash it at least 2 times and wait for system to be stable for about 15-20 minutes
Tetakpatak and Rohitdahiya, thanks for the reply and advice!
In my previous post, I forgot to mention that I installed CyanogenMod without the Gapps. I’d like to try if an android-phone without the Gapps is still useful. Somehow I don’t like the data-collecting-mania of Google.
I tried again the update from CM 10.1.3 to 10.2:
- I downloaded cm-10.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip again and copied it to the internal SD-card of the phone.
- Restarted the phone into ClockworkMod recovery.
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- install zip -> choose zip from sdcard -> cm-10.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip
- install zip -> choose zip from sdcard -> cm-10.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip
(Did it twice. Don’t know if necessary.)
Didn’t install Gapps.
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- reboot system now
Unfortunately CM still gets stuck at the boot animation. The arrow has been rotating for over an hour now.
To my knowledge the Gapps are not mandatorily required to install CM. I could install CM 10.1.3 without the Gapps without any problems.
Could a full-wipe solve my problem?
ClockworkMod -> mounts and storage -> format /system …?
I have never done this before.
Or is there something else I can do?
Regards
Tomy

First of all, don't forget to quote the user whom you want to contact, because he don't get any notification until you quote. I was just checking around the questions and thus I saw this.
Sometimes, there is requirement of g-apps for the core system to be working ( Not sure in case of cm10.2). Try with g-apps (you may choose light package).
In my opinion, it should work. If not, try from the start ( flashing gingerbread with Odin with repartition ticked, then its root and finally cm10.2 from recovery)
Also make sure your handset is i9000 and you are using cm10.2 for the same.
And finally, All the best
CM doesn't neccesarily need Gapps to boot up. In fact most custom roms don't - they are still usable, just that everything Google-related doesn't work.
Its a bit odd seeing as how you've pretty much done what I would have done if I was installing CM to a Galaxy S. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work.
As far as I know as well, formatting /system is more of a last-resort method, not something you'd immediately do.
However, I had a similar problem installing a rom onto my tablet - different device, I know, but try this anyway and see if you get anywhere:
1.) Go back into recovery if its still bootlooping
2.) Wipe data, cache, Dalvik (and this is after you've flashed the CM10.2 zip twice like you did)
3.) Reboot device without flashing Gapps - this is to see if it boots up.
Let us know what happens.

Tomy, now it is getting clear- of course, I tought you already had Gapps on your CM10.1.3 installed so in such case they would definitely need to be updated to 4.3
Yes, the ROM shouold work perfectly fine also without Gapps
Your workflow sounds correct, but just to make sure: after first attempt to flash CM10.2 build, there should be a warning that all your data will be wiped, right? After that you must again choose the option "install zip" and install CM10.2. It will work this time.
If it doesn't work, download again the CM10.2 zip as it may be corrupted file. BTW, I didn't like that build for several reasons and returned to RC version.
If nothing helps, flash back your CM10.1.3 and restore your nandroid backup if important files were there. If the downgrade won't work for different partition of the /system, use my unbricking guide and revert to stock, then to CM10.1.3, then to CM10.2.
Keep step by step on the guide if you use it, it has important points to control before flashing. Flashing with re-partition needs always a PIT file, or with other words: without that file re-partition option mustn't be checked. Doing it simply by clicking the re-partition (like @Rohitdahiya adviced you to) without a PIT file checked under "PIT" would brick your i9000.

When I tried to flash CM 10.2 the first time – at that time RC1 was the newest version – I was asked to flash it a second time, which I did. To be precise, the following message was shown:
This ROM uses an incompatible partition layout
You /data will be wiped upon installation
Run this update.zip again to confirm install
This message hasn’t been shown again since then. I flashed CM 10.1.3 again and tried to flash 10.2 a second time, but the message wasn’t shown again.
Going back to CM 10.1.3 worked without any problem.
------------------------------------------
Now I have CM 10.2 on my phone and it starts normally
I flashed Stock-Android 2.3.6 with Odin (v1.82). Tetakpatak, thank you for the excellent guide and the video! As written in the guide, I used "s1_odin_20100512.pit" as PIT-file.
(I executed Odin on an old computer with Windows XP 32bit, as the guide says Odin 1.82 works better with Win XP.)
Then I installed CM 10.2 over Stock-Android 2.3.6. I followed the official instructions:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd?setlang=en
(I executed Heimdall on my new computer with Windows 7. Heimdall 1.4RC2 doesn’t work on Win XP. If one executes Odin and Heimdall on the same PC, I could imagine this could lead to confusion, because Odin needs the Samsung-USB-drivers and Heimdall needs WinUSB. I’m not sure if this really leads to problems. But one should keep that in mind.)
I didn’t flash CM 10.1.3 before 10.2, because I didn’t need to restore a nandroid backup previously made with CM 10.1.3. There were no important data on the phone.
Many thanks to all who gave me advice and helped my solving the problem!

This is the forum for the original Galaxy S, not the Nexus 5, sorry mate
However I think your problem can be fixed by doing a full data/cache wipe so it might be worth a shot
Flash Boot.Img. This might solve the bootloop!
I think, You just need to flash the boot.img (available in the Cynogen Bundle Zip Folder) after installing Cynogen Mod. Me too got stuck on the animation part for a long time. Then I found out this:
CyanogenMod builds for endeavoru currently do NOT support any bootloader version number below: HBOOT 1.28. As the device is S-ON (security-on bootloader), for a working installation you must extract the boot.img from the installer zip and run fastboot flash boot boot.img from fastboot mode.

I havent found any fc
Hoping that the sim bug will be fixed soon
I dont mind using the Single SIM as I use it for single sim most of the time. Thank you for sharing it here. I'm downloading it now.
an awesome rom
This is the best rom I have ever used on my Sparkle V. Very smooth ,
but I found a bug - while backing up data on local storage the phone hangs and reboots itself in a minute, but that's not a major issue.:good:
guys, I tried flashing, but failed. ,
- first I tried wipe everything, and then flash. But flash or rom failed, giving sole softlink issue. I tried multiple times, but failed. Finally, fixed issue by having another 4.4.4 rom installed first and then flashing this rom without wiping system
- once flash was successful, I rebooted device, but it keeps looping wihout booting up. OP suggested multiple iterations of (battery remove, goto recovery, wipe dalvik, boot) , but I am in my 7th attempt and device not booting still.
How many times you guys had to wipe dalvik? Very much anxious to test this MIUI rom !
Flash why philz
Do not flash gapps it was bootlooping

thanks @yadavdharmendar, I am installing from philz, and I avoided installing gaps as well. Still not luck. I get Simlink error.
I am coming from FIUI rom. Not sure if that matters (as anyway I am wiping everything before starting rom flashing).
I was on Fiui too
Then i flash cm11 ,then miui

thanks! But why you installed CM11 first before installing Miui. OP didn't asked for it. Just curious to know!
And where you got CM11 from? From Cyanogenmod download page for "sprout"?

Thanks all. Installed cm11, then installed ROM with the patch, and avoided flashing any gapps. It worked! Just one bootloop, which went away after wiping dalvik.
Thanked OP!!
BTW, any ways to make the navigation buttons look big. And possibly increase bar height?

Just one problem seen :

Did you perform a „factory reset” wipe? Changing ROMs kind of requires you to - a factory reset wipes the old sd-ext, and you still have it.
And are you sure you downloaded the right ROM? I can't access the RR site now, but they don't have ROMs for Thea.
What phone do you have, actually?

I have xt1045 4g
I've done all the procedures to install the rom .
but gave those mistakes.
try putting on a rom 5.1 stock xt1045 according to what I found here on xda but I do not install it .
the phone did not stay at the logo and not as most do.
Then you need to flash this ROM: CM Peregrine
Or this one: RR Peregrine
See the ROM's discussion thread here.
