Hey, Since Windows 8 RT is out, can it be ported to the Note? I see Windows 8 RT is for "light devices".
Cheers,

Windows 8 its closed source so you can not get the kernel to work with any other device.. Probably some freak could manage to accomplish some kind of crazy port but without hardware acceleration video, no camera, no radios, no sensors so what would be the point..

Hey,
Unfortunately I don't think this is possible due to the size of the processor in our phone.
From what I've heard the S2 only just got Multi-window working properly- and this is a phone with at least double the power of our Galaxy S.
The closest we can get is apps in Play Store- stuff such as Stick it!, Super Video, AirCalc, Pop-up Browser, etc etc.
Sad though, I'd really love to see this phone do that

We don't have the RAM in our phones to handle multiple workspaces, the phone is struggling enough as it is... (we're talking about running two desktops at the same time)

Do not create new threads with port requests!!!
Instead of creating a new thread in the forum with a new request for every device under the sun, post your ideas here. This thread can be used to discuss the possibility, viability or worthiness of a port, then to gather general interest or recruit developers into a project.
All other threads of this type should be reported for deletion to keep the clutter to a minimum.
I own two phones: the Motorola DROID 3 and the HTC DROID DNA. And both are phones I think deserve Ubuntu OS. But my DROID 3 especially, I no longer use it, and have wanted an operating system other than Android on it for a long time. Firefox OS, Open webOS, and now Ubuntu. But out of all of thes , I want Ubuntu the most.
The problem is :
I don't know how to code.
Plain and simple, I have no idea how to do anything you guys do. And so I'm really hoping you can bring a new OS to my now sitting in a corner phone. Will anyone here take the time to develop for it?
Do they meet the system requirements? You might want to ask a rom developer in each of the phone's specific forums
The Droid 3 meets the minimum requirements for the entry level version, but not the high-end version that can dock with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse..
Ubuntu on Ace 2
Is the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 able to run Ubuntu?
I'd like to have Ubuntu on my phone but i am not sure if it run on my phone

Galaxy s3 or galaxy note 2
Hope these two power houses get a port of Ubuntu phone os
They definitely should, especially considering the Note 2 has 2GB RAM.. Hell, I think the Note 2 could run the regular Desktop ARM obontoo.

It was stated that it will first launch on the galaxy nexus. However no one can confirm anything as of now it is too early

Ubuntu on Galaxy S3 ?
I apologize in advance if this may sound as a stupid question, but is the Ubuntu OS available for the Samsung Galaxy S3 ? If so, could someone possibly direct me towards how I may acquire that ?
Thanks !

Just wait and see one of the developers from your forums might put in the effort if they have time, who knows

My wife has the GIO and it is more of a low-end device..
Anyway, I know there is a lot of people saying it could be ported.
Just so you don't get your hopes up too high. I will mention a few reasons why it most likely will not be ported:
1. It is a arm v6 CPU , Ubuntu ported their core to be arm v7 compatible as a minimum, so if someone manages to port it, to armv6 which involves a lot of code changes and recompiles then the support from 3rd party apps will be very limited to QML/Javascript and HTML5 apps only..
You won't get no apps that contain anything binary QML/C++ as they would need to be ported to the lower architecture as well.. Also all packages in the repository will need to be recompiled and supported from 3rd party's to be used. There is no official support at all..
All together , we are not talking about a port, it will be more of a fork of official to armv6 hf . the effort involved is similar to what raspian has done to Debian to support armhf v6.
2. Less resources on the device.
3. You need to find a developer that is insane enough to do point 1. If you do, then there is still point 2. That can be a problem.
Cheers

The gio/ace/fit/mini devs can do anything.
Fully working CM10.1, and more.
@op
Gio will get ubuntu one way or the other, if not the devs probably worked their buttholes off.

Yea that's what I hear all the time.. You may have a running cm10 on that device. Sure, but you are comparing native against dalvik VM and that shows you don't understand. You sound like devs are some magicians, we are not, we are human and there are technical limitations on the gio that makes a port useless waste of energy so i am not going to waste time on explaining anymore.
It won't work, just get a new device ...

We don't have great device
And Ubuntu Touch is not yet released in daily driver form for any device. It's like alpha or beta.
Agreed with nishanty13 and ast00.
We don't have a great spec devices (c'mon, ARMV6 Processor, LDPI screen, 600 Mhz processor ? You gotta' be kidding me) and Ubuntu touch isn't stable yet. It still hanging around on Alpha stage.
Ubuntu Touch is just "preview", nothing works except browser. There isn't any real application on it, cannot do anything, it likes a set of screenshots of real OS.
*I know because I've tried installing and using it, but it has nothing to use *

Yeah, agreed with you. I already installed it in my Nexus, but yeah, nothing is great. It's hard porting a full blown desktop experience to a phone. Also, our Mini isn't great at all, you can't just go beyond limit, our Mini is a ARMV6 powered phone with 256 MB RAM, what's so great that you want fully blown Ubuntu Touch ?
No offence but i disagree with idea of porting it.
Honestly....porting is not impossible but really is it even worth it....

I don't think it's wort it...only if you have a SIII or SIV maybe but on a device such as our mini i would wish that cm10.1 to become stable and official that wold be more than enough for me
i don't think it would have any interrest right now
Hello friends i have been trying to port windows in xperia. Was able to run the image succesfully in windows qemu but on android it is not working, bochs2_5_1 doesnt even start and on qemu it goes to startup but doesnt start and shows options for rebooting into safe mode etc... I dont know where is the problem...

Why windows? If you have the knowledge and time why not try Ubuntu Touch? I'm pretty sure it would be much easier and more useful. We would love to see Ubuntu Touch on our XZ

Yes i would like to do that but right now i want to run some windis tasks from the mobile so it becomes one stop shop for me. I want to use windows onmobile for some light exe files

This would be close to impossible since you need a x86 cpu or something that would emulate ARM to X86... Or a arm version of windows... Not to mention the ram

CM 10.2 or Android 4.3 supports Open GL ES 3.0. But the Tegra 3 dont support it. Will it be a Improvement to also if Tegra 3 dont have Open GL ES 3 but CM 10.2 support this ? I mean GPU and Game Performence.

No. That's the same as asking if your dx9 card would be able to run dx11 games if you just installed Win7 instead of XP and didn't change the gpx. Hardware implementation is needed and T3 doesn't have it.

It won't get you GLES 3.0, but, to state the obvious, it's not the only improvement it brings. One of the important ones, for me at least, is fstrim.

Galaxy S3 exynos also dont support open gl es 3.0 right ?
Whats brings fstrim ? I read only performence tweak or so

No, S3 does not have GLES 3.0, there was no point at the time.
I think you should try internet search on those questions you have. The answers are quite easy to find, quicker and much broader than the ones you'll get here.
