[Q] How to Unbricking Hard Bricked Samsung Galaxy Ace - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I have Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830), recently while uprading the my ace with the Cyanogenmod10, i had bricked my phone, now it never goes into the download mode so that i can flash the firmware with Odin. Actually yesterday, i used Rom Manager to Install the Custom Rom, and when said yes to install the custom rom, phone shutdown, and never started again, i googled around for some way out to go into the download mode, tried all the key combination, but could not go into the download mode, i tried the Home + VolumeUp and connected the USB to PC, with this method, my phone was detected, but because it was not in the download mode (i guess), so Odin just stucked at setup connection... and does not go further. Have anyone went through this dilemma, can anyone help me out of this, my warranty period is elapsed, so was thinking to get phone back to life myself.
Please anyone help me with this, i love the phone... I know that was my mistake to use Rom Manager to Install the Rom.

take it to the service. there is no other way. i tried everything, belive me. repairing costed me 200hrk (around 45$).
and
DONT USE ROM MANAGER

By taking it to a service center...Only way to recover it

i know that could be the way to back my phone to life, but just wondering, what the servicing guys would be going to do, which i cannot do.

They'll use a JTAG. You can do that to but they're really really really expensive.

actually i know they will be going to use that, but they says they will be replacing the motherboard and according to that they are charging, but i know they will not be going to replace motherboard, is there any way i can check whether they have replaced the motherboard or not, or is there any other way to make it work without going to the service center.

I don't think being in-warranty would have made any difference, it would have been void anyway

check the back of your phone.when you remove your battery you will see 3 gold squares..when you take it to the service center and it becomes 9 silver small squares it means that they didnt change the motherboard they just solder it to connect wires to the motherboard they used jtag...:cyclops:

Check for imei no. If they use JTAG it won't change since the motherboard/chip set of the phone is same.

Don't know where, but its more expensive than a brand new ace (and lots of low-mid range smartphones)

I bricked mine 1 week after getting it. I took it in and said it shut off and I can't turn it back on. They made sure it wasn't the battery, then replaced it under warranty. So if you still have a warranty, it's worth a try. The guys at the store won't know you've been screwing around with it.
To use Rom Manager you need a CM-compatible rom installed. It says that right on Rom Manager's download page. DO NOT USE WITH STOCK ROMS EVER!!!

is there any other way to recover my phone other than JTag, its really costing me a lot, can anyone help me with any other possible solutions, my warranty period has been expired. I really need my phone get back to life, missing my ace a lot. Can anyone please help me with this.

[Q] Help! My phone was bricked! (and i think that's a hard brick)

I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Mini, then I installed ROM Manager. After that I accidentally selected a wrong clockworkmod and now my phone have black screen, and won't power. I tried to enter in download mode but not working. I saw a comment with a guy that have the same problem as me and jig mode also not working. But I found a method, it's called jtag. Anybody knows about this method? Or i have to take the phone to the warranty service? But the warranty is void because i rooted the phone, may be I can lie and to say that i dropped my phone in water. What can I do?

I'm sorry to say but your phone is DEAD! You need to replace your mother board. Claim your warranty and tell them that you were playing Angry Birds and suddenly it died. Or tell them that at night it was working but in the morning it wasn't booting. NOTHING CAN SOLVE A ROM MANAGER BRICK!!!! I think I should make a sticky just to explain this.

+1.. @tfk97: at least do search in the forum about ROM Manager before you install it.. OKAY?!!!! countless stories about bricked phones using this app.. :banghead:
Yeah a sticky is really needed.
I am just wondering why there isn't any till yet.

I don't think that rom manager can remove bootloader from device and it may not be hard brick try going in to download mod by removing battery then press combi buttons and while pressing buttons insert the battery
and if you get into download mode just flash via odin
Don't use rom manager on mini, it has bricked far too many phones.
That said, you'll need to bring it in to the shop and claim warranty. Don't worry though, they can't see you rooted or anything because of the state your phone is in. Because of that, they'll simply replace the motherboard and ship it back. 2-3 weeks and you'll have it back.
Hy.
I read to that RomManager done many briks and i sugest it should be removed from te cyanogen mod instal wiki or taged whit not recomanded methode
Just say that then you woked it was off and dont turning on. I get it twice. So dont worry. For me changed mother board twice. Be happh, and go to waranty service.

Have you tried holding down the three keys for donload mode (volume down, home and power) while inserting battery?
Of course, you can clear the rom manually but it is risky.

It can't, neither can CWM.
It can screw with the boot process though so unless you already have flashed a proper CWM i don't think you should use it.
If you have, all it is good for is backing up and restoring and it does that via CWM installed anyway.
It just leaves callse for CWM.

Press the Thamks button if helped.

How about using jig?? if i didnt get success will jig do any harm to my mobile.
or may be i should go to the samsung center and get it done by them.
Anyways thanks for the prompt reply.

if you don't know exactyl how to do use jig, I wouldn't do it, since you may loose your warranty again. I sent my bricked Galaxy Ace that didn't boot to Samsung, and they didn't notice I installed a custom rom in it, so maybe you should try.
I've found a thread like yours, maybe the solutions there will help you

Naa... They don't!!! Once the phone went off(bricked) no one would be able to find what happened before. But even if they enquire about it, behave as if U R a NOOB to all this. This's all what U need 2 do!!
Be cool & have patience!!
EDIT: Also, motherboard is not damaged in most(~all) cases. It can easily be cured by Riff Jtag box.

How to unbrick samsung galaxy Mini GTS5570

My phone, (Samsung GT S 5570) Just died a few days ago while I was installing some software. The software was Clockwork Mod. To install this, I used an application from Google Play called -Rom Manager. After installing the app, I clicked something like flash clockwork mod, and a list was brought to me, from which I was to select my phone model, but unfortunately my wasn't among the list. So, I picked the first Model type and proceeded. The clockwork Mod was installed correctly and so I went to the next attempt and that was to Partition my SD Card. Consequently, my phone went off and I thought that it would restart on itself but....! I tried to restart it on my own but the LCD didn't even turn on. What do I do? To make it worse, the phone won't even go into recovery mode. The phone was already rooted, so no warranty. I suppose the phone is Bricked. Someone please help.
My email address, [email protected]
Thanks in advance.
Your phone is bricked and it's because you were trying to install CWM for a device that was probably not even remotely close to yours. Also wrong section I would suggest posting in this section forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1311 and seeing if they might be able to help you.

NEVER install CWM via rom manager it just isn't compatible with our device and 99.99% of people brick their phones because of it. And yes, your phone is probably bricked, hard brick. What u can do now is to try a usb jig method which is available in the guide in my sig.

You're totally out of luck on this one mate, now you have a very nice paper weight if you still have a valid warranty, just bring the brick to the service center and they'll fix it for you, but never ever mention flashing, clockwork mod or anything related it happened while updating with kies, that's it and guide for making usb jig provided by tietganFTW works, I made one for myself already and tested it on mini, so there's nothing to worry about on this one

Bricked N7000

Hi guys, here's the story... I'm using ice cream sandwich 4.0.4 stock rom and attempted to upgrade it to jelly bean. I downloaded the custom firmware slimbean 4.2.2 for n7000. I rooted my note first using exynos apk file and it was successful. I placed the downloaded rom with gapps on my external memory and began puttng the phone to recovery mode. I flashed the slimbean and it says that it was installing so I thought everything is working fine and then suddenly the phone shuts down and it wont turn on anymore. I have tried several attempts getting the phone into download mode or recovery mode but no luck. Phone is not booting anymore. Yes, no splashscreen or whatever just blackscreen and its totally DEAD. I made my own jig and thinking this might work for me but unfortunately phone is not reacting but when I tried putting the jig on my s3 its working fine so its not the jig but the phone and when I observed the phone when battery is on, the phone gets hot meaning my phone is not totally dead. My battery has a charge so its not the battery at all. I've seen several article about this jtag thingy but dont have any idea how much will this cost but not planning to buy the jtag tool because I wanted to take it to a local repairshop here in the Philippines but i dont know how much will it cost me. Can someone please help me? Im really seeking for assistance here because warranty is already expired.

Yeah.. you flashed using stock recovery and stock kernel... ERROR
There will only be 2 options > try JTAG ( not 100%) or a motherboard replacement. JTAG is much cheaper that Mobo replacement,.
Not 100% for jtag? Aaaw. Im hoping not the MoBo.

yes JTAG always doesnot work. But try your devices luck.

Hi, the same thing happend to me on the n7000 of a collegue of mine. I already found a shop that can try a jtag. It costs about 50 euros. He said to take the phone to him and after he looks at it he will be able to tell me if he is able to repair it or not :| I'll keep you posted about the results. This n7000 was on 4.0.3 but the same slimbean rom. Imagine, it isn't even my phone. Hope i don't have to buy her another one :| If this goes well, or even if not, i am not touching any other phone again in my life !!! except mine ofc. :| Hope you will recover yours. GL to us both.

The thing is: why didn't you think about this before doing this? Do you have an insurance?
Maybe you should record the next meeting with your "friend".
Did you try the e2fsck check in hg42's thread? This helped in a few cases, maybe you are a lucky one.
Or the repartition trick? But you should inform your friend about the consequences.
Repartition?
I am stucked with no boot ...... Odin mode look like working but PC can not detect it when connected......
what should I try?
I installed that kernel v13.04.23 (former t8) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/maxfuacm/files/Galaxy Note/MaxFu_HydraCore/

When I boot to Odin mode and I connect usb to PC or Mac - there is nothing happens....
The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it(((( BUT here it DOES NOT SEE MY NOTE connected.....
ill go next week with it to try a jtag. idk what to expect... here in germany, its pretty difficult to find someone who can do it. at least i didnt find anyone in my city. idk what to say.

i had this problem two weeks ago...if you are still on warranty send it they will replace it for you if not you have to replace it because jtag doesn't always work
I sent it to a repairshop. They've tried jtag'ing it using medusa but there's always an error 18. Technician said that it might be the emc or just a jtag error. Im sending it again for second opinion to other tech.

[Q] Samsung Captivate hard bricked. HELP.

So the other day i was on my captivate and i had just factory reset it to original eclair. so i tried updating it with kies but it kept failing. So i then tried using Odin and accidently checked bootloader and now my phone turned off and wont show any signs of life. PLEASE IM ASKING YOU PLEASE HELP! What do I do?
Can u get into Download mode with button combo or jig ?
If ur phone shows zero signs of life, even when plugged in to a wall charger, then it is probably hard bricked and so u will need jtag service in order to bring ur phone back to life. Check out mobiletechvideos.com, they can fix ur phone.

But i dont get it. I was flashing with odin and it magically formatted the bootloader. Is there a way for me to fix it by myself like restoring the bootloader. I got my phone only 2 month ago. I dont have 40 dollars to invest on jtag service. Like how would they fix it. Could I please get instructions? Thanks and most help is appreciated

It doesn't format the bootloaders per say, it you flash a stock ROM with Odin that has bootloaders and if it gets interrupted while it's replacing them, your phone will be bricked as it doesn't have a way to boot (hence the name bootloaders).
The JTAG service basically pushes the bootloaders into the phone. It's something we can't do on our own unless we have the right equipment (riftbox).
Like 4-2ndtwin mentioned, try to get some response from your phone, anything that would show life. That means you can recover on your phone. From there, you'd have to be able to get in download mode and flash Odin KK4 without ANY interruption.
My phone wont turn on and when i put it in charge it wont even show the battery charging. What else can i do to fix my phone?

Try the button combo to get in download mode (could even try a jig). If that fails too, you'll have to get jtag service.

The only alternative I can suggest you is to find that service around your place, hopefully for cheaper.

From what I've read in your thread, you had the i9000 image working, correct? If so, why not just roll with it?
All Captivate/i9000 rom works with the i9000 bootloader. Captivate GB Rom will need to get the 2.3.5 i9000 Music Player APK, but aside from that, it all works. AOSP roms like Cyanogenmod and Slimbean will work out of the box if you get the captivate version. To install them, you'll need a slight workaround though:
Flash a kernel with CWM.
From there, flash the Captivate Glitch Kernel V13. It only comes in .ZIP format, which is why you need a CWM kernel before hand
Flash CM7 to convert the partition table(IMPORTANT. Rom will not boot if you skip this step.)
Flash anything from here on. If it throw a status 7 about device not being SGH-i896/SGH-i897, etc..., flash the Glitch Kernel before attempting to flash the ROM. You do not need to flash CM7 again.
(I know other ROM should have converted the partition table, but in reality it doesn't. Since you're flashing from Glitch, a CM7/MIUI kernel, they assumes you already have the MTD partition layout, and only resize it instead of doing a full conversion. CM7 check the partition table regardless of which kernel you're flashing it from.)
As a plus, Deep Idle works only with the i9000 bootloader. You'll get sleep of death otherwise. If you want your ATT World Phone image back, you can flash the custom param.lfs and change it manually. This can only be done from Touchwiz ROM though.
