Hey everybody, I've been looking around here and Amazon for a car mount for my nexus 7 that will also shrink down enough to fit my Galaxy S3 if I forget my nexus. Has anyone seen such a mount?
Thanks,
Justin

I use the mini suction mount version for the siii but this will also do http://www.google.co.uk/products/ca...a=X&ei=nSCRUMOkDKmN0AWowoHABQ&ved=0CDMQ8wIwAg
Thanks. Does it hold well in the car?

This is the one I have. It worked great on my most recent trip. I was on vacation for a week and stuck it in the rental. Stayed on so well I almost forgot to take it with me when I returned it after a week. Fits the N7 in landscape and can rotate for it to be in portrait in case you want to use your polarized sunglasses. It held my galaxy nexus with androidtified case just fine as well from the top and bottom of the phone. It's cheap enough to test it out for yourself.

I have the same mount. GREAT for the Nexus 7, not so much for my HTC Sensation with a tpu case on. .
I backed a kickstarter project the millimount to see if it would fit both. I guess if its for a phone only, it wouldn't be a total loss. The kickstarter project, if funded successfully, will ship out by Jan 2013 though, but I think they have all the supplies needed when funding comes through.

It does yes, it works better in portrait mode though. Ive had it a couple of years and its been fine for all my phones, saves having to buy new mounts.

I see no guarantee that it will fit the nexus 7 in landscape. Also the nexus 7 weighs about 4 times heavier than any phone on the market so I'm a little concerned about the weight pressing in he CD player. If you can vouch that it does indeed fit in landscape and holds well I may order this today. Windshield space is in short supply for me.

I agree, I doubt that would fit the nexus 7 in landscape, it's "compatible" because it would fit portrait, which is counter intuitive if you ask me.

it doesn't fit. at least from my research it doesn't. there were a couple people who said it didn't fit. i actually have one on the way for my galaxy nexus and i will give it a try with my nexus just to confirm that it doesn't fit.
I've been looking at Halfords...found this which DOES fit the Nexus and can hold a phone as well....

does your phone slip out? I actually have all 4 prongs installed and it's a tight fit for the GN but it works.
I just ordered the following tablet mount and should be receiving it next week. Will most pictures when I get it.
I was originally planning on building a custom mount that covered my radio but that would have cost me a lot more money and this seemed like a quick solution as a gap-fill.

My sensation wont fit at all. The phone is too long with the case installed. So I am on the hunt for another mount like the exogear or the kropsson models. The kropsson model I am looking at has charging options built into the thing, looks very interesting...a two fer!

Would you also possibly measure how small it is when it shrinks down? My GS3 is just a bit shorter than my N7 when the nexus is sideways, I'm hoping it'll fit, if so I'll probably bite on that one...it looks pretty sturdy.

In my car (Peugeot 107), there is a cut out area on the dash which I would mount the holder to rather than to the windscreen.
It's not in the way either....

I was always skeptical about the sticky thing in these holders, if they'd be able to hold the streak.
Bought the Arkon Universal mount and got it today. Must tell you that streak is too heavy for it. No way I can mount it and charge it as well.
I also have a belkin 1A charger for my streak.
I'd love to see a holder that can hold the streak in landscape mode and can charge it as well, in the same position.

The slipgrip mounts can do that and come in various configurations to match a case. A bit pricey. You can also find them on eBay.

Checked them. They are so damn costly. more than 50 bucks for a holder Thanks but no thanks.
Will probably try to mod the arkon thing I've before trying anything new.

Ya if you don't use a case for us case users this sucks!
Re-Using old dock
I bought this dock from Best Buy a long time ago and it was the setup that hooked up in your vent. It worked great in our van until the kids lost one of the retractable hooks. As you can see how my vents in my truck move side to side, I could never use the hooks because when I would make a turn the phone would just flop around. It sat around for quite awhile since I couldn't hook it up, then I decided to get creative with it and now it makes a great holder for my Evo in its Otterbox Commuter case.
This thing is solid. I see this is a Dell Streak forum, but I was directed here from another topic and thought I would share my set-up. This universal holder actually expands alot and I wouldn't be surprised if it couldn't hold a Streak.

There's no doubt that the official unit works well. But for me it's a bit too tight - getting the phone in and out is tough, I've pulled the whole thing off the dash more than once trying to get it out. Unless you're off roading, I think it's over kill.
Are there any other holders with the same bracket mount?

I waited for such a thing to come from someone other than Dell, but finally bought Dell car dock after long wait. I'm glad I did because it's just it's natural fit.

The only problem is that it can't be used with the commuter case on. I've currently a make do arrangement with Arkon universal mount. Only works in Portrait mode. The landscape shakes like hell.

Im looking for a small backpack for when I want to travel ultra light and just have my nexus 7, plus a few other bits and pieces.
I already have a 13" laptop backpack.. the only things I can seem to find online that are small in size are messenger style bags... as I do a lot of cycling to get about, I prefer backpacks though as messenger bags tend to swing about a bit whilst cycling.
Any links would be much appreciated!

No mention of cost so I will recommend chrome bags. I have 3 different styles that I use and they are well known for making bags that work well for bike couriers.
I use my most recent bag from them, victor, just as you describe. It is just big enough for my nexus, a few cables, a usb thumb drive and a wifi hotspot. The main pocket secures with wide strips of good, strong, durable velcro. I have no problem trusting it.
However, if you need something a little more versatile and secure, I would suggest getting a mini-metro. I have one of these as well and use it for anything and everything when I need a little more space than the victor. It is probably the best of the three that I have for cycling due to an extra strap that goes under the arm to keep the bag from moving. This one is a bit bigger than what you need but doesnt really seem big unless you stuff it.
I have the classic messenger also, but it is less secure/ loose so I would not recommend it for use as you have described unless you are just carrying stuff a short distance. This one is not as ideal for cycling.
Here are a few pics of the victor with the stuff I carry in it:

Check out the Camelbak Mule or Lobo. (sorry, they won't allow me to post a link) I have the mule and it works great. If you don't need the water reservoir you can use that pocket for your nexus 7, it is padded and fits in nicely. That leaves the main compartment for other things and the small pocket for keys, wallet, etc.

I did read it, but I'm still going to recommend a messenger... The timbuk2 ipad mssenger is really good, and the strap tightens up so that it doesn't swing and actually sites really nicely on your back. The cushioned pouch is way big for the N7, and there's also a decent sized main compartment. On top you get a passport pocket, card holders, and a zip compartment with more slips inside it. Yet it's really small! I am amazed at how much I carry with this thing. IT's become my work bag, holiday bag, and festival bag all in one. I got it from Dell for £50 in the UK.
I know it's supposed to be backpack related, but I don't think that you'll have an issue with swing on this one, and it really is amazing quality for the money.
Having read this thread though, I really want the Chrome Victor too. Looks awesome.
I use a Kifaru E&E for the purpose you mention. It is more like a pouch with straps. Light and very well built.

Ok, so I've checked them all out.
The Belkin slim too big for my purposes... I already have the incase which is great, but Im now looking for something smaller. Ive shortlsted the following (btw, I didnt realise there was such a thing as a 'slingback' until today, these also seem to fit the purpose as the sit on the back) :-
Chrome Victor
Timbuk 2 catapult sling
Camelbak mini-mule or lobo
Eddie bauer slingpack
So these should give an idea of what I'm after if anybody else has anything else to suggest.... thanks in advance!
Are you in the US or Canada?
Take a look at daypacks for rock climbing - the smallest ones are usually big enough for a pair of climbing shoes, a water bottle, a chalk bag and a couple of snacks. You won't carry any of those, really, but the point is they're small packs.
In Canada, MECs got a few choices: http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Packs...newSortType=price&newSortOrder=ascending#list (sort by price, lowest to highest). The Blitz Crag Daypack is only 7.5L (450 cu. in).
You can probably find something similar in the States at REI or EMS.
Why not try looking for net book accessories. They're pretty small and will probably do the trick.
This one is leather so it might not be exactly what you're looking for.
Amazon
How about a street pack from Dakine? They're small, well made, and usually come with a lifetime warranty. I'm thinking the 13L would be a good bet. It's cheap too!

My Nexus 7 case is one of those cases with a small pen holder and I was thinking if it could be possible to use that holder to attach a strap to it and thus wear the whole tablet around the neck when I'm out and about and need both hands free.
Anyone ever think of this or has done it successfully? I'm not sure that small pen holder will actually be strong enough for prolonged use, but maybe you guys have a better idea that doesn't involve another case?
Just thinking out loud here..

Practical reasons, of course. Yesterday at work I went outside to stretch my legs and I usually take the tablet with me when I do that. So when I was reading stuff, my boss asked me to help him carry some stuff. I needed both hands for that. Is that practical enough?

Just get a shoulder bag for a 7 inch tablet/ netbook .. i have seen some very nice ones.. And i do have one for my 11.6 inch notebook.. VERY NICE Pink floral well made.. Got mine at Target of all places i believe... Or you could always carry it your purse.. I know my purse never leaves my shoulder..
ALSO Tell the Boss your on BREAK ...
Yeah, I was just thinking that if I already had a case maybe I could multi-purpose it Carrying a shoulder bag all the time just in case I need it isn't ideal
Just put it in your purse.
I wouldn't trust the little lanyard strap on a case to hold the weight of it bouncing around your neck. Some cases have a hand strap where you could reverse it on your back of your hand to hold something. Alternatively an arm band may be better suited.
What about a belt holster even?

I wouldn't even consider putting anything expensive in my back pockets (can't even say I ever used the back pocket of pants to store anything ).
Also I'm sure anyone can do whatever they want with their Nexus 7, after all, did you pay $200+ so the OP could have his Nexus 7? No? Then I think he can use it at work without your approval

It mounts into the cd slot on your stereo. I wonder if it fits the Nexus 7?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/XENOMIX-CD-...der_Mounts_Stands_Holders&hash=item416dad3020
Looking at how it mounts and how it holds the tablet, it looks like it would work. But it also looks like it will tear your CD player up. It mounts by inserting into your CD slot. All the weight of your tablet and mount are hanging there off your poor CD slot. When you hit a bump and the whole thing bounces, it causes a lot of stress. If you get one of those, you'd better plan on getting another CD player to replace the one it will tear up.
I have a mountek car mount for my phone that uses the CD slot and haven't had any issues on my xterra , but I think it messed up my wife's CD player in her vw bug. So definitely be careful.
As for fitting the N7... My N7 could barely squeeze into the mountek without a case on, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah as of right now the nexus won't fit in the grabber part.

It mounts into the cd slot on your stereo. I wonder if it fits the Nexus 7?

I just got this mount 5 days ago and like it a lot! I have the smaller version for phones too (forgot the company's name) and it fits in the cd slot perfectly and doesn't damage the player at all! Very sturdy too. The one for tablets is a bit harder to get into the slot since the insert part is a bit thicker. I may try to thin it out a little. Also the one for phones has a screw to expand the insert part inside the slot. the one above has a tab to lift and push to lock in place. The N7 fits perfectly. It is also very well made and sturdy! once I thin out the insert part a bit it'll be perfect!
It did take a bit to arrive to the States from Korea but it was worth the wait!

Great find!!!
I am always looking for cd mounts so far I thought mountek was the only one.
Only issue is "Estimated between Thu. Dec. 27 and Tue. Jan. 15" & now mountek is saying they will have tablet version in early Jan 2013 but who knows if they are telling the truth. It was suppose to come out summer of 2012.
I do have the original mountek modded and it holds the Nexus 7 fairly well but not perfect. Tough decision to make as this will be shipped by next year as well.

What did you do to make it capable of holding the nexus 7? Pics if possible please?

cool find. i haven't used my CD player in the car in years, so now it'll have a function haha!
I am also interested in this holder. I'm not sure if I should go for it, or wait for Mountek to release their version of tablet CD slot holder. My CD slot is in a rather awkward place, and it's a little inwards. I would love to see more pics of this holder, if anyone has it.

Does it hold the Nexus 7 well if there's a case on it, and does it have the grippers on the long side when in landscape mode?

How do you like it?
I made a short review on this product, hope it can help somebody else
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2079563
check out the photos. I took 2 pieces of velcro, looped it on car vent in the center. placed my N7 snuggly into it, (tablet has a tpu case so it helps with gripping). non evasive and no car mods needed.
tested during morning rush hour traffic, stop and go. also tested at 80 mph driving freeway, braking and turning sharply it stays in place. very non evasive and i can take off the velcro anytime and it works great.
Installation time took about 30 seconds.:good:

i think u should stick some of those velcro on the back of the nexus' TPU case. much cleaner look. not liking the velcro loops on the front, but hey, it works. good job.
ive tried the velcro on the back. i hate that. it makes the case not clean. also you have to velcro something on your car and I hated that. especially when it's warm. so now you have a piece of velcro right on your radio lcd and it looks like garbage.

Yeah, that's good thinking.
It won't work in a lot of cars, because of the angle of the dash and vents, or due to glare, but if that works for you, you can't beat the price or ease of installation.

Its also important to take into consideration any safety aspects in the event of an accident. A flying tablet in the cabin would not make a good passenger.
Holy crap, that's ghetto.
You could find a better way.
I installed car audio for 10+ years and that's the most ghetto mount I've seen yet. But to each his own
Nexus 7 dash mount
I bought these at kmart for only $7 each. I got 2 so $14 total. They are magnetic. They clamp to you vents in your dash and then you mount your phone to them via a magnet and I small metal ring that sticks to the back of your device. I used 2 of them side by side, then 2 of the metal rings on the back of my nexus 7 and boom. It works great. It will work in any vehicle with heat vents. It is very easily removable and you have more capability of putting in a convenient spot. I have a chevy blazer in Pennsylvania and I went 4 wheeling with this on and it did not fall from my dash not even 1 time. Also as sturdy as it is it is very easy to remove to take with you when you exit you vehicle.

Wouldn't that block your vents, and make the device too hot when your heat is on in the vehicle?

If someone would create a dock for the dang thing I would have one installed in my car. One where the Nexus 7 comes out of course.
there are definitely lots of ways to mount. i said this would be the cheapest, and it's non intrusive to the car. it's also very effective meaning it won't fly out or fall off a suction cup or break off a vent. it takes about 15 seconds to do so it's by no means a professional job. and i have other vents on the sides of the dash that provide heat if needed, and cooling in the summer time actually keeps the tablet cool.
i can take off the velcro in 2 seconds and my car will be non invaded by crappy ebay/amazon mounts.
and no way will i spend tons of money for a "professional" to mount a $199 dollar tablet to my car dash. that's just f**kin' stupid. and plus it's a honda. (no offense to the guy trying to bluetooth to his mercedes).
:good:
I think velcro is one of the fastest ways for quick mounting.. just not the prettiest..
I just got myself a 3D printer so I printed myself an iPhone mount for my moped. Anyone ever try one out?
