I'm not gonna always use the Hard Drive.
I usually have things on a hard drive that I need and don't transfer to my phone so I could use this..
It's not a 24/7... People should purchase this though as many people are complaining about storage.
Will it handle regular files like text and doc filres or is it just for streaming media?
I posted this earlier in Q&A. More choices (but obviously fewer opinions...)

It'll handle any file not only media.
I best storage solution would be for Google to offer 32 and 64Gb variants.
I can understand their reasoning for not wanting to use sd-cards - and I'm fine with that. I would actually prefer not to use an sd-card myself. That said, if they are going to go down that path, they need to make damn sure that there is adequate on-board storage. Considering storage costs bugger all, it's really quite surprising they are only offering 8Gb and 16Gb variants. 8Gb is just a joke actually!
I know.. this is just a really nice solution.
Uh yeah I have a 9TB NAS box on my network at home that is not the problem...

Seems like overkill....you can install es file explorer which is free and use it to access smb, ftp etc shares to copy, move, stream files from any pc on your local network.
Lol cloud storage would be alot more simple

No.. I absolutely detest the iPhone.
I already have my diamond, but tonight (as I put loads of music on my device) ive been thinking about it more and more... why didnt HTC put at least 8GB in it or add a Micro SD slot.
Other than that, I absolutely adore my diamond. Its a fantastic device and a great upgrade to my HTC Touch.
The whole 'mine is bigger than yours' thing doesn't bother me.
It's a phone, not an entertainment system for me.
I always carry a usb drive and am rarely far from a real pc.
When I ordered it I hadn't noticed the lack of card slot and I've only ever had a 2gig card in my previous smartphones. Maybe I just don't understand the concern to have so much on a media player but then again I did used to buy C120 tapes for my walkman

I cant remember the exact figure but it would add several mm to the device to put in a MicroSD slot so that's the main reason they didnt. There may also be power savings and speed improvements but i beleive the size issue was the most important.

I'm syncing my diamond to my iMac(itunes) using missing sync, so I'm not really sure whether this is possible using media player on windows, haven't been using windows for years so I have no idea as to it's playlist capabilities...
I've got two playlists that I'm syncing (everytime my diamond connects, basically every night) the first one I add music to as I please (songs I have to actually add to the playlist)... The second however consists of songs played less than three times... I have a pretty large library and my diamond pretty much always have music on it that I'm not tired of, hence I find the 4Gb quite sufficient. This is also available for videos, or video podcasts (if you use your diamond as a video player)
They'll comeout with one with more memory, until then, go to www.modmyifone.com:)

I absolutely agree. Everyone knows that the Diamond has 4Gb and is not expandable. Pretty pathetic really if they buy it and then realise they want more space.
I have stored 100+ pics, 15 hours of music and installed all programs in the internal storage - and I still have 2,4 GB free.

Not really. Its like anything else, you buy it thinking it'll be fine - its only when the space runs out that you realise you want more.
And no - dont go suggesting the iphone as an alternative, to me its a compromise. I want a kick ass Windows Mobile device. The diamond is damn near perfect apart from the storage issue. Curious HTC went this route as
1) Flash memory is very cheap. Hardly any cost difference between 4GB and 8GB
2)A Micro SD slot will not impact size that much
Do any of you think there will be any third party solutions (adaptors of some sort?)

The forum is for trying to solve a problem and sharing information.
Moaning - perhaps understandable to a certain limit.
Now, you know there is nothing you (or anyone else can do) about the 4 GB internal sotrage that you got with your phone.
If there is a new version of the diamond, with more memory or an external card slot.. someone will definitely share that info.
Unless that's what you were doing, I don't think that moaning is going to get you anywhere or achieve anything.
An exercise in futility.
If you just want to share your opinion, there are plenty of places where you can do so.
Doing it on a forum where people are looking for solutions, not exactly the best approach.

Hi everyone!
do anyone of you know if the Optimus Speed Supports SDXC? (or any Bigger memory cards than 32 Gigs?) Officially, LG said, i believe, it Supports only 32Gigs, however, i`ve read somewhere, that the only Difference between SDHC and SDXC is that SDXC uses the "exFAT" Filesystem! Hardware-wise, even a "old" SD 1.0 reader should be able to read both, SDHC and SDXC its just the right drivers u need... so do anyone of you know, if Android supports the exFAT Filesystem? if android Supports it, i believe so, Android should be able to read/write the Big Cards?

These cards are confirmed working in several Android's now:
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/09/sandisk-64gb-micro-sdxc-cards-confirmed.html
Am guessing that all that is needed for using an SDXC card, is just a driver. As simple as that.
I remember like 5-6 years ago i used to have a pocked pc and it was when SDHC standards arrived, and by just installing a 2kb file or smthn, they were completely usable on any old Device. So am guessing the same thing applies here...
I could be wrong of course : )

This is true. There is technically no difference between between the SDHC and SDXC-cards, just the size. You need a file-system which supports >32GB-cards. (I have a transformer, which has built-in support for NTFS, and will happily accept SDXC-cards larger than 32GB provided it's formatted with NTFS.)
I haven't tested if any ROM for the O2X can mount SD-cards with anything else than FAT, but it's easy enough to test I guess. Just format a(ny) card with ext2/3 and insert it. If it's recognized it should be possible to use cards >32GB.
Did neither of you guys see my post? These are working in Android devices, no special drivers needed. I don't think anyone has tried in a 2x specifically, but I would be surprised if they didn't work.

Thank you for the video. I learned a lot. I'm new to xda and I've been looking for the answer to this question everywhere, but have yet to find it. I bought a 64gb sandisk cruzer usb drive to use with my otg cable with the stickmount app. Because of limited storage, I was wondering if I could actually save installed applications to the flash drive. In other words, if I can use a feature similar to "save to sd card" for apps, but have the apps save to my flashdrive. If anyone could make a video or just type up a response, I would really appreciate it.

I've done it several times. It all depends on the laptop and wether or not you can even access the Videocard. Most high-end Asus laptops can easily be customized.
Best go to a computershop if you've no experience with it yourself, it isn't always easy.

Thanks most likely going to do this.
I was very dissapointed that I could not use an External SD card with the S6 - but recently read a post that explained how to use OTG to provide working external storage that integrates with TWRP.
You have to be on the lastest version of TWRP for this to work TWRP Version 2.8.6.2
Then you have to have an OTG Device that you can connect to your phone - I personally chose this one - I am not suggesting you buy this - only showing you one of many different options - this one is a micro so it is very small
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RBGYGPG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
and then you will need a USB Storage device of some kind - Thumb Drive - or whatever. I found a very small micro USB storage with 64GB that I am using.
Once you have everything you need - the Correct TWRP installed - reboot to recovery and plug your OTG-USB Storage into the S6.
Go to MOUNTS and Mount the OTG
now you can flash roms if you have any stored on it- you can create and restore Nandroid Backups - everything you could do with an Ext SD card on your previous phone.
I believe it is important to UNMOUNT the OTG Device before you unplug it. Probably is safest if you do - to avoid data corruption. I have only been using mine for a day or two - but i have backed up and restored from OTG and it works beautifully. Might be a tad slower than using your normal SD Card.
WHen flashing roms or creating or restoring backups - be sure to choose OTG as the storage you want to use in TWRP just like you did when using an EXT SD Card.
It is not the perfect solution to replacing an External SD Card - but it comes damn close. And personally, with the MICRO OTG and USB it is very small and not cumbersome at all. Works Beautifully,
I hope this helps you

I have the 32gb and I have all the apps I need installed and I still have 19gb left and I want to keep it that way so I figured all the pics I take I can just put it on one of those.
