Can you get into download mode?

never mind the factory reset in cwm will not erase the internal storage. check if you can find the backup in the internal sd using cwm

When I try to restore when using cwm it just says restoring system, but i left it that way overnight for 6 hours or so and when i got up it just says the same thing, it just gets stuck saying restoring system but never actually restores it. Any thoughts?

I think i found one, i download it as a zip then it says i need an application to open it. Should i have something installed besides odin?

copy it on pc on pc and check if it has a tar file inside. If yes the you can use it with pc odin. but if not then you have to use cwm

Problems adding CWM after root

Hello.
Ive been trying to root for hours and tried different methods, but no goodies. This phone was originally with 2.2 froyo. I tried 1 click roots, but unable to install CWM. I used Odin (one click download one) to downgrade to 2.1 and still I can't get CWM to work after root.
I just want a stable root method so I cant just install any recovery that lets me backup+flash roms =]
Any help will be apreciated!
What method are you using to get CWM?

Well, I rooted with super 1 click and tried to apply the update.zip (CWM) and still got an error.
Thanks for replying.
EDIT** I also tried this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734163, but the link provided is dead.
Download ROM Manager from the market and use that to install CWM. I've had good luck that way.

I tried that too. When I flash CWM with rom manager and reboot to stock recovery, I choose "reinstall packages", I get an error.
What's the error?

I don't have the phone with me right now, but I'm pretty sure if was something about the SDcard. That it couldn't find something. Do I have to add an update.zip to the sdcard before flashing CWM with rom manager?
You don't, ROM manager puts it on there for you. It's the same process as doing it yourself, just automated. Let us know what the error was when you get back to your phone and we'll go from there.
Does anyone read any more?
2.2 has recovery 3e. you cant just install cwm from rom manager....
if you would GOOGLE the actual error message, you would see what the problem is, and that there is a sticky that covers the issue....
And if you read the whole post, you would have read that he downgraded to 2.1.
ROM manager is poop for our phone.
Just Odin flash a kernel with cwm baked into it if you're gonna be flashing a ROM...

I agree that it causes more problems than it fixes for ROM installation, but it does work reliably for getting CWM working.

any version that is not a one click. you manually put the kernel .tar into the pda slot.

there you go, i have attached one.
most things go in the pda slot. and unless you have a .pit in place make sure repartition remains unchecked.

It will brick your phone.. When ever i flash
I make Nandroid Backup..
Check I can get into BOTH recovery & download mode using ONLY 3 button combination..
Then I will go ahead and flash..!!
Depending your phone will get boot loops, stay stuck in download mode or computer & exclamation mark logo..
DON'T EXPERIMENT LIKE YOU HAVE STATED ABOVE
I did it already lol nothing happened cause i used the .512 pit file...
That file arranges everything to flash the fone itself correctly

welcome,
to flash a kernel, you just enter into download mode, connecto to computer, open odin, browse the kernel as PDA, hit start, and let it work. after that you're done. No need to wipe or anything else. just flash

Even if you flash the kernel in the wrong section, there's no reason why you can't enter download mode to reflash everything again.

Prob:Restoring nandroid stock rom backup

Hey guys im using miracle v4 (cm7)
But now i want to revert to stock rom...
I tried to restored backup of original stock rom via nandroid (cwm) but my ace got stucked on logo
..
Can someone pls give a step by step guide on how to restore it only via cwm (not odin)?
Please
If you used the search button you would have found the answer. In a nutshell, cm7 and stock use different file systems so you cannot use can to revert. Either change file system or use Odin......

Then that's weird . It's impossible to make a backup of an rfs filesystem

Well same problem here. "You can't restore a rfs based partition backup on ext based partition."
You have to flash with odin to go back to Stock.
Or try this, i'm not sure if it'll work:
Download "ext4 manager" app by cf-root team> then convert filesystem to rfs> Restore backup after that.
Hope it'll work
1. Flash original firmware with Odin.
2. Install CWM recovery.
3. Restore original firmware backup.
It's the easiest way and it worked for me.

[Q] why is cwm recovery not working?

I have installed cwm on my friends phone (galaxy mini) via odin. When i booted into recovery it said he couldn't mount /cache/recovery. So i installed root explorer on his phone and i saw there are no files in that folder! In my phone there is a file... so i was wondering if someone has installed cwm (i believe it was 5.2.7) and knows how to solve this. Maybe i could try using this file of someone else with same recovery.
Long story short: does anybody know a solution or does anybody wants to upload this file?
Sorry for bad english if i made any mistakes

simple way is to download file and usb to phone, the zip file. Do Not unzip it.

Dont use CWM on stock if u dont want to flash rom
It will give problem
Well... first i had tried installed cwm using a normal .zip file. Same problem. Then was when i actually installed via odin. After that i gave up and asked for help here. So i think it isnt the fould of the recovery. So could anyone upload the file in the next location, just to try : /cache/recovery
So i can put the file inside this folder and maybe it will work again.

don't worry error in mounting cache is normal, you can use it safely for installing and wiping
However also in the my stock recovery give a error in the cache partition but to me give the error of unmounting, says unmount(/cache); attempt 1 unknow error=0 rc=0, and later i must and will inform about this error.
