I've got the screenlock password on my Galaxy Note. It's in English layout (it was originally entered in Swipe keyboard). Then I've changed the Settings to Samsung keyboard and French layout (same latin letters) and switched off the screen. Now my pass is not working as I cannot change layout to English (the settings button on keyboard is grey). So would you recommend any solution as I don't want to wipe all the data. Is it possible to change layout to original English or reset password somehow? Thanks a lot in advance.

Yes. How could it help me?
and if on a safe kernel only ?
make a full nandroid backup and do a factory wipe.. although i am not sure if that will bypass the screen after restart..

the best way is to do a nandroid backup or use titanium backup to backup all your apps and data and flash a rom again if you are flashing ICS rom remember to use a safe kernel before flashing and do a complete wipe, hope this help

As far as I know Nandroid Backup is an image copy of the system. So will the restore overcome my screen lock problem? Anyway could you give me some sane links on Nandroid Backup procedure for Galaxy Note (or maybe it's the same on all Android devices). And what do you think maybe partial restore could restore everything but language (layout) settings?
BTW some people say that I should try hardware keyboard connected - will it help?
its the same. boot in Cwm, backup and restore, backup.
After this when you reset, and able to log into the phone, just go to the keyboard layout and check how to type your password your password in French.
Then do a restore and get access.
partial restore may work or may not

Sorry, I didn't get your point. I thought that French symbols just have dirrerent ASCII (or whatever) codes in comparison with English. Because my pass it's just several letters and 2 numbers.
i dont know if i am making sense, but what i wanted to say was
if i type abcde using english keyboard
will the french keyboard use the same buttons too
any way, first get your phone booted
oh yeah.. may be a usb keyboard will help... worth a try definitely

Alas, it didn't work out. I've made backup, wiped everything, then restored my backup. And here I am again with my f..avorite French layout. Could there be any different ideas?
after the wipe , did you try to reboot the phone before restoring the backup, does the phone bypass the lock screen. offcourse, if you chose to restore you will reach the same point.

Sure - it was absolutely clear ROM. Without anything. And the settings were all on english.
then you should try to restore your apps using titanium backup

I used to have an Captivate associated with my google account, but I bought a Nexus S and now the Captivate is my mom's phone the only issue is that apparently I can't change the main google account without doing a factory reset.
This is where my question actually starts, will factory reset block the cellphone again?(I unlocked it with the code) I'm in Brazil right now and I'm not sure about where is my unlock code;
My second problem is that I have installed the cognition ROM so that I could finally have flash on my phone which means that I can't get the unlock code again right?
So will factory reset block my cellphone or reverse it back to 2.1? If it reverse back to 2.1 will I be able to get the unlock code?
Thanks for the help and sorry for my english
I could bv be wrong, but i Believe that after a flash you cant go back to stock by hitting that button. what it should do is re-install your latest flashed Rom fresh.
I don't actually want to back to default, just change the google account, would be great if I could change the main account and keep both the Cognition and Unlock

You will keep unlock and the ROM will still be Cog. You will lose all personal data.

Now you can restore google account and sync. Gmail will be OK. But as for apps only manually restore. For future install Titanium Backup and use it for apps backup before flashing.

look at this, you can read all about it.
with clockworkmod recovery.
it's realy the best way to backup you'r rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007863
You don't need to backup the ROM, but if you want to be able to recover all your apps and system data then pickup Titanium Backup from the market, and do yourself a favor and get the paid version its totally worth it. If you get the free version its slower, also you have to verify each app that it restores as it goes through the process. With the paid version its faster and you don't need to verify each app as it restores. Hope that helps!
titanium is only to backup you'r software.
wil not help if you mess up you'r rom

From what you posted , i gather that you where having booloops after a restore, this is common, so the fix most times are to flash the kernel.

is that boot loop? because it only stucked in that logo. if i tried to charge it, only the loading "little circle" yes, i already know the process on how to fix that . just flash a kernel again,. so restoring may cause bootloop? like how many %?
After you change ROMs you dont restore your CWM back-up.CWM is a back-up just incase something goes wrong. What it does is makes a copy of the ROM settings your phone was on before the flash so if something goes wrong you can get your phone back atleast. To flash a ROM and then restore CWM over top you will end up with your old ROM again. If you only back-up certain things then you are trying to restore certain apps that have settings from your old ROM that probably are not compatable with the new one. Before a flash make a complete CWM back-up just incase something goes wrong but also make one with Titaniun of all your app, contacts and what ever. When all is good and done replace with Titanium and thats it but dont restore your CWM back-up cos your restoring your old ROM again.

aww.. didn't know that, well after that boot loop problem, then i flashed XXJVS 2.3.5 kernel, and the rom was gone, it's just gone back for a new phone but 2.3.5 though. so the titanium back up is the best app to restore game app+additional data, contacts and other apps? because now i installed some gameloft games, and they requires 500mb+ additional data(depends on game) that's too lot to download again, our connection is just not that fast for it. i download the additional data for like 6hrs (612mb).
sweet. No worries. There are 2 titanium apps on the market.A paid and a free one.For what you want id get the free one as i dont think you need the advanced settings the pro version has.Titanium backs up whatever app you want with or without data so in your case you can save your games and data aswell and flash new ROMs and wont loose anything. It also links them back to the market again incase of updates.Need to be rooted thought.Do a CWM back-up just in case.flash your ROM and dont forget dalvik cache and cache partion wipes before rebooting.Root your phone reinstall titanium, load your google account and then reinstall with titanium. It installs all at once so you dont have to do one at a time.Good app to have.If something ever did go wrong with the flash and your phone was left semi-bummed or whatever and you didnt know what to do or couldnt fix it then you boot to recovery and restore your CWM back-up to get your phone back to the way it was before the flash.that is what its there for.Its a saftey net.

Hello, I really need help, I was using system/app mover to move apps from normal to system apps so that they are considered as system , and would be there when I factory reset. This app works in both ways, it changes apps to system apps and vice versa, now I was clicking on the app to change to system , then they ask do you want to reboot , if you press no, the order of the list will change. If you press on the call app foe example, the one bellow it is selected , and doing it fast I didnt recognize that , only before I changed the messaging app, nfc service, something related to camera, notification bar , and maybe more that I didnt see yet. The problem is that these apps are removed from the phone permanently, they are no longer on the list, installed as normal apps, or even in the system folder, or apps folder. I need someone to attach all the apps in his phone under system/apps , so I can paste them there, please help. For faster ask&answer consider contacting me on my email : [email protected]
Thanks alot

Just reflash the ROM, or use your nandroid backup, and don't make the same mistake next time.
Much quicker than waiting for someone to upload all their apps for you.
First rule of messing around with your phone;
"Be prepared to fix your own mistakes."

You should advise daily/regular backups, and before messing about with anything that requires root and modifies your phone take a backup, backups are your best friend in the android world, however if your boot loader is still locked and you can't reflash a ROM or even have recovery flashed, head down to the Themes and Apps and I remember (I think) seeing a system dump for stock 4.1.2, go there and you should find everything you need

How can I make a backup before installing CWM ? My bootloader is still locked, and I tried to unlock it using the toolkit developed by OS_hacking , but when I hit unlock bootloader the phone shows me a warning that the warranty will be lost , I press agree, it opens the download mode , and then I try to flash the CMW but it does nothing. Now I cant access the recovery mode.

You could utilize "adb backup", or use Titanium Backup. If installing CWM worked fine, first thing to do of course is a Nandroid backup
