I noticed when i put to charge my RAZR I with its AC power supply, there is a strange effect on the touch screen. My phone dont responds well, the problem in touchscreen when i roll up the menus, the programs nd browser is ok but the menus dont work fluid. The problem only happens when i charge in AC. In Usb(PC) doesnt have problem.

anybody?
yes, I also noticed that. But its not always. This may be caused by the cahrger or the socket itself, if there are other devices plugged in as well. Touchscreens do react very fast on any kind of unnormal powersupply. I have 3 of those original Motorola wall chargers. but i noticed that only on one of those. maybe its the socket where it is plugged in or the charger itself. i will test is later while recharging my phone.

I change my charge for another but LG. Same problem. My city is 220v is not 110v.
I know if was more of a common issue on older phones..... perhaps this lovely problem is back with the Intel chips.

What firmware version have you ?
I upgraded mine with latest EU firmware here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1936512
My Razr was not up to date.
Not a big update but I noticed some improvement: No more lag when zooming out/in the home page, NFC notification get an icon near the clock, before it was a " standard app notification".
I never notice the sluggish touchscreen, maybe this issue is solved on this firmware.

The last version. I update in the last week. FW: Brazilian version 87111012012.XT890
I've had this problem on a number of Motorola phones (and others) and believe it's something to do with earthing/grounding. That could be why it varies from one charger to another, or even perhaps how much current is flowing through the charger.
I'm not an electrical expert, so I might be talking nonsense - but I don't think it will be firmware related.

there are problem with charger or is my house? Here is 220 volts.
So finally i got my battery empty after 2,5 Days
Just tested it with my old charger from a Mielstone 2 and the new one.
There is no lag or slowdown with the new one, but with my old charger the phone reacts very bad especially to light touch gestures. So i guess its a problem with the AC charger. I have 230V here in Germany. Or the Touchscreen (digitizer) is just too cheap and can't handle a non perfect Current/Voltage.
I tested with diferent charger and same problem. I pick up a Samsung SII and some problem with my chargr and I use anothers charge with Samsung II same problem too. I have a LG P500 and dont have problem. Whats happens? Samsung SII and Razr I there are delay in touch but LG P500 I dont have this problem USB never problem.

I recently discovered the lower portion of my touchscreen isn't as sensitive whenever I am charging the phone with the original charger and cable.
It is so bad that I am unable to complete the sliding motion to unlock my phone since I am using the white bar for widgetlocker.
Just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and should I be worried?
Thanks!
According to the quick start guide, (yep that small paper nobody reads) that could be caused by unstable current when you are charging. But i am not really sure since i don't have that problem..

I know this may sound weird, but I have heard that some have found using another charger helped similar issues. Maybe try another charger and see if that alleviates the issue.
I can confirm that it's due to the charger or the wall outlet. I have my SGS2, and I've experienced this multiple times. On my iPhone 4 I also had this issue all the time (I think a lot of people complained about the screen sensitivity while charging), and Apples stance was "change outlets" and that fixed my issues, my friend's issue, and my roommates issue on our iPhones back when. Make sure you're using the correct charger as well, with correct voltages.

thanks for all the replies. i've now tried using the various powerpoint outlets in my house and as well as a few iphone plugs but all of it yield the same result, my screen still remains the same.
in fact, this issue seems to have gotten worse after sending the phone in for servicing 2 days ago and samsung service centre claimed they changed the lcd screen and the motherboard.

Hey man, Did you got the issue ? I would suggest, if your phone is rooted, you must be knowing how to change kernels. Do that. It should definitely solve the issue. This thing is called, deep sleep or ghost touch.
Hi everyone, this is my first post!
I'm having this issue since I bought this phone (used). When I put it to charge on AC, it starts to heat. The real trouble comes when I'm calling while charging. It overheats so much, and eventually reboots. I have a call plan which lets me talk 90 minutes paying only the first, and I often have to charge it while I'm talking, so this is a true problem for me.
I've been thinking about this for long time. First I thought that could be the screen, but I discarded that possibility. Since the mayor overheating occurs when I'm using call app, I thought it could be an antenna issue. However, I think it could be the charger plug too.
What do you think? Could you help me?
Thanks in advance, and so sorry for my crappy english...
This isn't antenna or charger. The heat comes from the SoC (the "main" phone chip) itself. Is the cellular reception bad where it overheats?
Phone's reception is ok when it overheats. The most heated zone is down the screen, around the trackball, plug charger... As I said, it only overheats when I'm charging it...
@JEMACHEHI . its normal to get heated while charging. but if it reboots regularly while charging n calling then there is some hardware issues. my n1 behaved in the same manner and it died 1 month back
PS - is your's a SLCD variant? ??

In first place, thanks for your interest, n1newbie, and sorry for my late reply. My n1 is not a SLCD variant but AMOLED variant. I was thinking about something. Maybe the plug charger is the problematic hardware. Everyone knows that phone heats more than normally when you're calling. So, if we combine the defective harware with the calling, we got the overheat and reboot issue.
What do you think about? Could I open up my N1 and try to replace the plug charger and see if it works?
Whatever, thank you so much again. Greets.
The plug doesn't heat up - it just can't, physically impossible - there's nothing to heat up. Either the charging circuit does, or the charging circuit is off and you get overcharging and the SoC ("CPU") is overheating. And it's also possible that your battery is overheating when charged and causing you the trouble. I'd suggest starting with battery.

Are you charging via mains socket i.e. fast charge? You could try a USB charge (slow charge) when you're talking on the phone, USB charger from PC or even via mains socket. This should help reduce the level of heat on the battery to some extent. Might be worth trying.
Also if you're rooted you could try setcpu and reduce your max CPU a little when on a charge e.g. 800MHz
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA
@Jack_R1
I did it. I changed my battery some time ago cuz I thought this could be the problem. It's not. Battery reaches around 37 degrees when phone reboots. When not charging, It can take up to 43 or even more. About plug, I know it can't heat, but I've noticed that any male plug fits correctly into female plug, so I wandered if that could be the problem.
@cpm
If "fast charge" means "stand socket", nope, I don't charge that way. I said I do it via AC. As you said, if I charge via USB my phone will reduce the level of heat. However what I want is to fix that problem, and can charge my phone pluging in a wall plug. As Jack_R1 suggested, I'm starting to think that is the charging circuit the problematic...
In any case, thanks a lot guys, you rule. And sorry for my English again

Last night I was calling and charging through AC, and I did what you said. I underclocked to 806 MHz and it didn't rebooted. I did it before opening this thread, but I underclocked to 900 or something, and it rebooted. Thanks a lot man, your solution worked for me as a temporal solution.
However, I'm still concerned about that overheating issue. I think this could damage my phone , and I have no money for buying another one. Anyone have any permanent solution?

Permanent solution is to send it off to htc under warranty. First flash the stock rom. They can see the serial number, and then see if it is still under warranty. Email them the problem and serial number...

My phone is out of warranty, so that's not an option. I'll take the previous as a solution, then. Underclocking worked fine. Please someone, close thread or whatever.
I'm using the charger that came with the phone. I also noticed my phone discharges while charging sometimes. Is this normal? I didn't wanna make another thread for another question so here I go, auto brightness has my phone at 100% regardless of lighting, is that normal?

Both circumstances definitely not normal.
There seem to be serious QA issues with the genuine HTC chargers recently. Both myself and my wife have been through several in the last year. They just don't seem to be as reliable as they used to be and I've given up buying them. If you contact HTC they'll just send you another pup. Try a Samsung/Sony charger. There is nothing special about one charger or another, other than the having the data pins shorted out so the phone knows it's plugged into a wall charger and not a PC, and rated current output. Avoid un-branded cheaper ones as these do not have decent voltage regulation or smoothing, and do not need to meet the same standards for manufacture. These CAN cause damage to your phone. I have used a Sony charger for the last few months on HTC phones without issue. I use my friend's Samsung charger whenever I go over to his house without any issues too. Just make sure the charger you pick can handle the current output that your HTC charger states.
Auto-brightness stuck is also not normal. I take it you have tried manually toggling it, and I factory reset? Are you unlocked/rooted? A bad kernel flash perhaps?
If you've tried all this and it's still stuck, look to see if you have a faulty light sensor. Download an app called Elixir 2. You can check all phone's sensors from there. Select the light sensor, then cover and un-cover the sensor and check you can see the light values changing.

Would I be okay in buying a note 2 charger for my phone I know it pumps out 2amps instead of 1. I'm fully stock and I downloaded elixr 2 and it shows my light sensor works fine. I just have to manually uncheck the auto setting for some weird reason to get it to work.

It should not be getting hot for average use. Gaming maybe, but web browsing and navigating menus definitely not. I seem to remember my One X suffered this in early firmware versions. Later versions fixed it. Which version are you on? Have you had the 1.29 update yet?
I know factory resets are a pain, but it will be the first thing HTC ask you to do before sending it back for replacement, so it's best to to get it out the way if you are already on 1.29. Failing that you can put your faith in the good people here to provide a kernel and base that solves any heating issues. That is what I did, sacrificing my warranty knowing I have phone insurance should the worst happen.

Hello Everyone,
I bought a new charger for my phone since the original one was damaged. Unfortunately I bought a cheap one although I told the the guy i am buying it for an S1. Its charging properly, but the screen/phone is acting funny. Only when charging and using it, the phone would start opening apps on its own or not respond to the my touch.
I am guessing its the incompatible voltages of phone and battery, is there a way of fixing it without buying or exchanging the charger?

Yes thats right mate...I think our S1 uses a charger whose output is around .7mA to 1mA our if its a faulty then also this happens...
I face this issue when I charge the phone in trains so its definitely its voltages and nothing else...go and buy a good charger.
Shame, so there us nothing I can tweak, perhaps using the voltage section on semaphore manager? Actually the strange way the phone reacts happens for 15 minutes,

Sometimes chargers have too high or too low current? Try a multitude of chargers, look for 1amp. I've had high current chargers heat my phone up and freeze the os and low-current chargers make my screen flicker and not turn on. Sounds like to me you have a low-amp charger issue, but who knows.
Give it a try, hopefully it helps.
