if i were to 'upgrade' cwm 2.1.0rc1 final to 2.1.3rc2 final, what steps should i take? my IS just wouldnt receive fastboot writing procedures, so i installed my last recovery by renaming it to pg32img and installed thru hboot.
before i upgrade to 2.1.3 , do i need to do anything? or just flash it normally
thx
im xtc s-off
You can just boot into recovery and install any zip you like now, including an updated recovery.
Hi all
i've bought a new HTC incredible s (vivo) from Canada.
i've got it with android ver 2.3.3 and 2.1 sense ver.
this is the baseband version : 20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27_M
i've checked the phone (holding volume botton down and pressing power) this is what i see:
vivo pvt ship s-off rl
hboot-1.13.0000
radio-3805.04.03.27_M
eMMc-boot
so i guess i've got S-OFF but no root.
how do i root my phone? i want to replaced it's room to CyanogenMod 7
can anyone please help me?
I think you just have to flash CWM or 4EXT recovery and flash the latest Superuser, since you're already S-OFF.
You will have got root. What happens when you boot into recovery?. If it shows the red triangle then you have a the stock recovery and you will need to change it in order to be able to install cyanogenmod.
I would just boot back up Into the rom you have now and go to 4ext.net and install the updater and then install 4ext recovery. Then go to cyanogenmod and download the rom for the incredible s and put it on your card. Go back into recovery wipe everything and install cm.

you are right, when i boot into recovery i get red triangle. i understand now that it means i have the stock recovery
i don't have root.
when i download 4ext and press install it says i dont have busybox and i need download "busybox installer" from the market. moreover it notes that i need a rooted device for this app.
what should i do?

You ClockworkMod from here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img
and then flash it in FASTBOOT USB mode using the command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img
Is there a way to enable CallRecorder on IncS to record clean sound from both sides from line, not from mic, because the sound is very bad? I found THIS site and there is sad that "Requires the kernel with 2-way call recording patch"? I tried but cannot find anything about that, anybody know where to find that kernel, or is there some other application that can do call record with clean sound? I tried couple of them from market but none is good. Thanks.
Unity kernels have 2wcr patch. There's app in first post and mirror in last.
Thank you. You mean on THIS therad? I have Incredible S v.2.3.5 sense 3.0, stock ROM, rooted, unlocked bootloader with HtcDev, S-ON. Is this compatible with my device? I just need to flash form CWM/install from zip? Where i can find stock kernel, if something go wrong to return to stock? Thanks!

Yes sorry I forgot to post a link. As you are s-on, the easiest way to flash this kernel is to replace your cwm with the latest version of 4ext touch recovery. To restore the the stock kernel, just restore the boot.img that you backed up as a nandroid in 4ext before you flashed unity But you should have no issues.
Thanks again. I never used 4ext touch recovery, is necessary to flash kernel with that tool or i can also do it with cwm? I already done nandroid backup from cwm.

You cannot flash a kernel with cwm on a s-on device. 4ext is very easy to use. You will have to redo your nandroid as I don't think the cwm backup method is compatible with 4ext.
So i just install 4ext, beside cwm, wright?

Download the app in the 4ext thread and flash from there.
I downloaded 4EXTRecoveryUpdater.apk and install from there, everything went ok but when i boot into recovery it's still CWM, not 4ext, what to do?

You need root access, then select online install. I don't know if you have done either of these things as your post contains insufficient information.
Yes, i have root access (superuser) and i selected online install, and installation went well, installed 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC3 (latest). But, when i want to boot into recovery (power+volumedown), phone boot in CWM (which i installed 2 days ago) instead of 4ext. What i am doing wrong?

The app should give you a copy of the 4ext recovery in your downloads folder, you might want to flash it manually. The app gives options to reboot into recovery, you might need to use it.
I use the option in the app to reboot into recovery, but it rebooted in CWM. How to manually flash the 4ext?
Ok, i used 4ext file from download folder on phone and flash the img with fastboot flash recovery command and now i have 4ext touch recovery. Now, i boot into recovery, choose install zip from sd card, and install UNITY_V9_2.6.35.14 from my sd card, and i will have unity kernel, right?

Use the app to flash the kernel. Make sure you have s-on smartflash enabled in the recovery settings and create a backup first.
"S-On: 4EXT SmartFlash - This setting is unavailable for your device". This option is greyed-out and i cannot select it?

Hmm, did you tell the app you were s-on when you installed it?
I don't remember i sow that question during install, can i check it out now, or re-flash and tell the app that i am s-on?
edit: i just re-flashed and there is NO question at all, just installing and done!
I found this: "This is done when you install recovery and answer the question that you are s-on with "yes".
You can also change that setting later on via RecoveryControl -> Recovery settings, or by editing 4ext.prop manually"
How to edit 4ext.prop manually?
I found that file on sd card and edit it, now is s-on=yes (was NO) but nothing changed. I reboot and recheck 4ext.prop and there is s-on=NO, again. I send mail to madmaxx82 and this is what it say:
"yes it's like that. Your device is unsupported by SmartFlash, because it's technically impossible on your device, which means you need to flash kernels/boot and even recoveries with fastboot. Sorry, but there is absolutely no way!"
So, can i flash UNITY kernel with fastboot with s-on?

I guess you could try booting the recovery in fastboot.
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
and flash the kernel.zip from there, but this method is unconfirmed on our devices.
Otherwise you will have to go s-off if its that important to have this feature.
Ok, thanks. I want to try to downgrade and gain s-off.
In your thread "[TOOL][SCRIPT][20 Feb 2012]S-off for HBOOT 1.16 and above v3.1" is a link to RUU used for downgrade. In that RUU the radio is 20.2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03 and i have higher radio (20.482.30.0822U_3822.10.08.28_M). Somewhere i read that downgrade the radio can brick the device? Or that can happened only if try to downgrade with lower version of android, like from Gingerbread to Froyo? I have Gingerbread, like the RUU for downgrade. Can i safely use your script to downgrade and s-off my device?
Hi Guys,
My heads sorta spinning from information overload so I'm hoping one of you guys can help me. I have a Incredible S and I used this guide to downgrade my HBOOT and get my S-OFF using revolutionary and flash clockwork, which I did successfully. I then decided to install this ROM which requires Blackrose. So I installed blackrose beta sucessfully overwriting the revolutionary HBOOT. This is where it all starts to go wrong. I then set about doing a full wipe and tried to install the ROM using Clockwork and the installation completed sucessfully. But when I try to boot up my phone I get stuck at the HTC quietly brilliant screen. I also restored a backup I took with Clockwork with the same results; stuck at the boot screen. I tried following the steps in the thread of the ROM (listed below) with no avail.
Here are some steps you can try if the ROM hangs on the HTC splash screen
1. Download the file lib.zip from here: http://bit.ly/PwK4BH (MD5 SUM: 83dd68b32d39c994b3069d8813b3c3ea)
2. Unzip the lib.img and place it on your PC where you have fastboot.exe installed.
3. Boot into FASTBOOT USB mode and then enter the following command:
fastboot flash lib lib.img
4. Wipe Data/System Reset.
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache.
6. Then reinstall vivo_signed_WWE_4.10.405.1_ICS_SENSE36_8.zip
Do any of you guys have any suggestions or know whats wrong? Even if I can get back to the latest stock ROM while preserving my root I would be happy.
Thanks Guys!!!
BTW i would have posted in the rom thread on I dont have enough posts :crying:
No need blackrose on this rom. Just flash and install rom if you S-On flash boot.img manual via adb flash.
Before, i ve used that rom & back to my prev rom like Stock and Nik Rom.
++no need blackrose++

It says in the ROM thread "This ROM requires that you upgrade Revolutionary HBOOT 6.13.to BlackRose 2.02.0002 because of space issues with the ICS /system partition."

What version of HBOOT does your phone now show?
Did the flashing of thr lib.img in FASTBOOT USB mode show any errors?
What is the exact file name of the vivo_signed_WWE_4.10.405.1_ICS_SENSE36 rom?
Which version of ClockworkMod are you using?
Things have went from bad to worse. I uninstalled blackrose now I'm back to revolutionary hboot 1.13.0000. But now I cannot boot at all or even get to the white htc screen. I am stuck in bootloader and have lost recovery. Thereby my phone will not charge enough to accept a RRU. I tried to reflash recovery by fastboot but I keep getting a Remote:signature verify fail error Have I bricked my phone? :crying::crying::crying:

The only option you have at this point is to flash an official PG32IMG.zip file extracted from a RUU and copy it to your SD card. Then when you boot into bootloader it will find the file, flash it and that should get you going.
It sound like you need to use the 2.30.405.1 RUU from here:
