Hi all
How are you guys manage to get whatsapp notification almost instantly when the screen is off ? I have no 3G (data plan) and the "always" option on WIFI shoould be a solution but it will drain battery. i f you chose "never" or "pluged in", then you wont receive notification until you unlock the screen.
if i put syncronization ON, on the device settings, will i get the whatsapp notification, since it will conect to wifi?
Install NoLed and you will have notification for email, SMS, Whatsapp,........even when the screen is off.
notification isnt exactly the problem. i want an app that makes wifi goes on and off in intervals, so it wouldnt drain battery with wifi ALWAYS on...
Try easy battery saver, i think it has a feature to turn on the wifi at intervals to sync data.

I use this solution (wifi never off in standby) and it doesn't affect battery much. Wifi goes to some kind of low-power standby mode but still connected, so it does not use really more enegry than often switching between 3G and wifi.
Or get a 3G data plan...

Than i might have one problem with my phone because my batt drops 5% every hour when locked/sleep with just wifi on always on, but without syncing and stuff.
Does it drop less % then this to you?

I've always had my data on in all my phones.. .I got fed up of the gnote's battery life so I decided to turn it off when I was not using it and God I was surprised, I watched a whole movie and played that train game and I lost only about 15 -20% of my juice.....
so today I turned off my data and WiFi before i went to sleep and when I woke up 6 hours later I had only lost 1%
that has never happened before...
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
wifi has been known to be a great battery hogger on the note, interestingly enough it should be the other way around
as for the data, the phone works extra hard in lower signal areas to boost reception, hence drinking juice
I always disable wifi and data when I'm not using them.
I use the Go Power Master widget to switch between different profiles I have set up for wifi, mobile data, wifi with autosynch and no data.
There are other widgets that do the same thing. Just saves you having to toggle each setting separately.
If I stay connected with wifi, it's not too bad, but if I move out of a wifi area, and leave it on, it seems to drain battery faster (I'm guessing because it keeps rescanning for connections?).
I have somwhere describe this
Any way you will find this solutione better.
Use phoneweaver, you can describe the time, it will stop data at defned time, as well switch on too at your describe time. So if you set data off time just after your time to sleep, N switch on time just b4 your wake up time, you even need not to bother do do it manually
same way this can be triggered by location too, you can switch on/off data/wifi at perticular place.
And there are lot action you can set.
agree to rechlum if you are connected to wi-fi is consume less battery thn you are connected to net with 3G, N keep wifi open with connected to data is draining battery too fast.
could it all mean that I wasted a lot of time trying to reduce my battery consumption with WiFi on?
so far by disabling the unnecessary apps strartups (Autorun Manager) and turning off non-essential syncs I was able to get down to ca. 7mA (Battery Monitor Widget estimates) in standby mode, BUT only when WiFi is off.
When it's on, the power consumption stays at ca. 60mA in standby mode, which is something I cannot comprehed - using CyanogenMod on my previous device I was able to stay below 15mA regardless of WiFi state.
Turning off data is pretty stupid. I don`t about you but my phone is actively working in the background.
checking email every 5mins
gmail syncing
facebook notifications
twiter syncing
Linkedin updates
ebay notification
3G data monitoring
weather updates every 30mins
Latitude monitoring
stocks updates
sports scores updates every 1min with your choice of espn, score mobile, fox sports...
bottom line is gotta use a smartphone as a smartphone. With data turned off notifications are not happening.

If I know I'm not going to be looking at my phone for a while, it's not much use wasting battery having wifi or 3G turned on.
I'm a teacher, so I often have 3-4 hour blocks of time that I won't touch my phone.
I just turn wifi or data back on when I'm ready and my updates still come through when I'm ready to view them. Any updates that might have come through if I had left data enabled, I wouldn't have seen any earlier...
If I'm watching a movie I'll often switch off data because I know I won't be looking at my phone for 2 hours.
I don't see how conserving the battery is "stupid".
One could argue that leaving data enabled when you aren't in a position to use it is "stupid"...
Just out of curiosity, is there some pre-made application that allows me to turn data and wifi off after 5-10 minutes after then screen has been turned off and then turn both back on when the screen is turned on? Or should I just code it myself?

there's an option in Settings / WiFi Settings / Menu key to turn WiFi off when screen is off,
besides that there was one to do exactly what you need, but cannot remeber it's name, if you don't find anything satisfactory then try Lama - it has quite a large range of location-based triggers
Leaving wifi on when you're not using is awful. It completely prevents the phone from going to deep sleep.
I get awesome battery life simply by leaving wifi on only when the screen is on. My battery ranges from 18 hours to 1 day and 23 hours, depending on my use (temple run )

Greenpower will do exactly that. You can set it up so it turns off wifi and 3G/data after a set amount of time after turning off the screen and turn it back on when the screen is turned on. You can have it sync once every n minutes/hours so you still get Whatsapp, emails and other stuff without having to turn on the screen.
It's working like a charm for me, before I used to lose 15 to 20% every night, now with the same usage I've only lost 30% in 67 hours.

Everybody has different needs. If you need all this and to be aware of what i going on in your no-doubt busy social life, then you can do this.
On the other hand, it is utterly useless if you are not going to pick up the phone and see what the weather is (instead of looking out the window) and who is doing what on Facebook (or writing things in Facebook instead of actually doing things) as soon as it beeps at you. In those situations, turning of data will save battery with no loss of information.
Personally I love a 'pull' digital life, rather than a 'push' one. I have far too much to be getting on with to be constantly hassled.
Of course, in actually writing this, I am proving myself completely wrong, but what the hey?
I only care about my Google+ account and my e-mails, everything else matters only when I personally decide to check it. As such I've set my phone to turn data back on every 30 minutes, sync e-mails and Google+, and then turn data back off again.
I use Timeriffic (free from Market/Play) to disable Wifi/Data etc based on time of day.
I don't really care about emails when I'm sleeping!
A must have application IMO.
Hey, does anyone know a good Wifi app that makes que conection goes on and off from time to time?
I explain; On my old iphone 3g, when wifi was on, it would conect it self from time to time when the screen turned off, so i could receive my whatapp messages. But on ICS, if i put the wifi on "always" in advanced option (wifi during sleep), the battery will drain, if i put never, than, well, i wont receive any whatsapp messages until i unlock the phone. So is there any program that makes your wifi conect from tim to time so i will receive my whatsaapp messages without draining my battery?

What about the second option, "only when plugged in" (I don't know what they mean with that...)...
maybe responds only when the app request the network... otherwise there is no difference between that option and the 3rd "never".

only when plugged in is like having the wifi on ONLY when the chager is charging the phone, got it?
"always" is good but drains battery, there should be a app that made the wifi goes on from time to time, rather than all the time. But "always"option is the only option that works if i want to receive my whatsapp message instantly
If you are willing to dive into a complicated app, you can do that, and a whole lot more, with Tasker.
strange thing..
if i set "keep wifi in sleep" to never it just stays on.
i got cpuspy to see if it really goes into deep sleep but the wifi just stays on.
i know i had this problem with customrom JB on my LG optimus black but now i have official JB on my XT and got the same problem here.
i need to install a app to control the wifi like i want it too..
(i always set wifi to disconnect when the phone enters deep sleep, my experience tels me that 2g data drains less battery then wifi)
however i didn't really test drain level of wifi/2g data on my XT.
Picked up my phone yesterday afternoon and after receiving the OTA and factory resetting afterwards, my battery life has been fantastic on the first initial charge. My screen on time is at 6+ hours and still going.
I haven't done anything special. My phone is bone stock with only T Mobile bloat disabled.
Is anyone else getting ridiculous screen on time?
Is this just leaving the screen on and not doing anything?
No...Just my regular usage on a lazy Sunday night while in bed.
I'm on wifi.. with Wifi calling on, web browsing watching videos on youtube, a couple phone calls and heavy texting. Also have 3 gmail account with push notification.
Stats look funny with the cell standby on top of my usage. Usually it's the screen that's on top
I've been really impressed with the battery on this device. It's been more than enough to get me through an entire work day. The fast charge feature is great for a quick top off before a night out.
I don't think this is out of the ordinary, I think the question was standby + SOT. It's easier to get high SOT times if there is no standby associated. So 6hrs SOT while the phone has been off the charger for 7hrs isn't as big of a deal as 6hrs SOT + being off the charger for over 24hrs.
That Cell Standby too, damn...that's caused by having VoLTE and WiFi Calling on. Agree with what everyone else said, 6hrs SOT with the phone being on for 7hrs41min is not really a proper measure of your battery.

The real question is...why is cell standby the highest battery user if you've been on wifi with wifi-calling? this is what makes no sense.
I am able to last a full work day just streaming satellite radio and always on and off it throughout the day and still have a lot of a room to spare. Pleasantly suprised with how great the battery life is. Short of watching video's I am still at 30% range come night time. My S4 would of bottomed out at some point in the afternoon. I have to train myself to not have this phone plugged in every outlet I can lol.
That screen-on time.....
I get 4 hours max....... With whiped cache, VoLTE off, wi-fi scanning off, and wi-fi calling off.
Spotify and maps both slaughter the battery, but still.
Wifi/VoLTE calling
Yeah I've noticed that when on WiFi calling (with or without VoLTE enabled) phone never shuts down the radio. As in, I actually see both the signal strength indicator (crappy at my office) and WiFi calling, which never happened on my Lg G3 -- as soon as it goes on WiFi calling it'd turn off regular radio.
I bet that's the reason for big cell standby energy consumption.
Did anyone else notice this?

Whipe your cache and disable wifi-calling and volte. The radio won't consume so much battery afterwards.

i get the wifi calling and no signal type indicator (IE 4g, LTE, etc) but i do get signal bars. This is exactly how it functioned on my g3 as well though with the lollipop update. If you want no bars showing, you have to change your wifi calling prefs to "never use cellar network"

Yeah my G3 before lollipop would simply remove the cellular indicator after about a second on the WiFi calling. I wonder if it's something that just changed in the system.
It's really annoying as previous behavior was exactly the logical one -- found WiFi, WiFi calling kicks in, regular radio gets turned off in a bit (hence no bars any more), if you go outside of WiFi coverage it turns back cell radio. Signal is so crappy at the office
Hopefully they'll fix it. I guess for now I have to keep switching "no cell at all, WiFi only" and back to "ok, cell but no WiFi calling". Ick.
I got 3 hours sot with 53% left to go. I have to say i am getting close to my note4 on this. I am very impressed so far.
Mine is doing well today. This is with Spotify and Snapchat usage.
Mine is getting better
So WiFi calling and volte on?
Yes to volte I don't use WiFi calling
I have airplane mode on, wifi calling, while I'm at home. Saves the most battery.
I was wondering if the battery would be good if it was used without a sim card and all the cellular features? I'm considering this watch because of the design. It does have a huge 570mah battery and I wouldnt use its cellular features. Thanks

so it seems there isnt much of a difference compared to my sony smartwatch 3 which i get 2 to 3% loss an hour and it has a smaller battery at 400mah. I'm guessing probably that cellular hardware modules are draining the power, even though its not being used. it would be great to see the same watch without cellular function and same large battery. thanks

By cellular off, do you have it in airplane mode or just left the SIM out and cellular set to automatic? I have mine in airplane right now, figuring that would save more battery, because I couldn't find a way to change cellular from "automatic" to "off" unless it was bugged or something.

I just turn cellular off. When I leave the phone behind I turn cellular to automatic to activate the SIM. When paired by bluetooth I just toggle cellular to off. Occasionally when I go out of bt range cellular will switch back to automatic on it's own. Most of the time mine will stay off. I never use airplane mode.

I was able to turn off cellular without putting on Airplane mode after restarting the watch.
I used it heavily this weekend for GPS navigation, tracking on a 5K, notifications, phone calls (via BT), and ambient display always on. The watch never went below 50% during a single day of fairly heavy use. With the display off, I imagine it could get 2.5-3 days easily. 2 days should be do-able with the display always on, but I turn it off at night just to combat any chance of screen burn since we don't know how well this P-OLED will handle it.
Today my battery is at 98% after about 8 hours of use.
I get email notifications, etc. This is with cellular radio and wifi off.
It shows remaining battery of 3 days.

That's impossible. Even if you disable the always on display. Your watch just isn't reporting the battery correctly. Might take a few cycles to get the battery level settled in. And if nothing else, I have noticed mine stays above 90% for awhile then drops off quicker.
You guys are doing much better than I am. I can take the watch off the charger, goto the office and be at 90% in less than an hour with LTE on. I can't get more than 4 hours with LTE on on this watch. I think it has to do with crappy signal strength, but what do I know? I just leave cellular turned off. Taked to LG and might send them the watch back to take a look at it.

I'd say if the signal reception is bad, that's definitely the reason. I've read several posts with this being the reason the battery drops fast. An example, I lose about 25%-30% an hour when I'm tracking runs with GPS, playing music through bluetooth and with cellular on paired to my phone that I leave behind. The cell signal in my area is good. A friend loses 60% an hour doing the same thing in a poor signal area. I lose about 3% an hour with normal usage and cell radio off.
