XDA and GPS

I am thinking of getting an XDA to use incar for GPS. I have read some articles on this site but they all seem to approach the problem half way through. Can anyone suggest the best GPS device, cradle, software and anything else that is needed
thanx

Zed,
I would consider buying one of the new generation XDA's (XDA II). They are supposedly equipped with bluetooth. The main advantage with this would be the possibility to buy a bluetooth GPS mouse, or a standalone bluetooth enabled GPS reciever.
The problem with the non-bluetooth GPS mice is their need to use the serialport at the bottom of the device to communicate. If you wan't a car mount kit with amplified speaker built into the back of the cradle, they are only sold as powered mounts which use the serialport for charging.
Thus you would have to use the GPS mouse with charging capabilities and let the charging dongle for the mount with amplified speaker hang loose.
Or you could buy a car mount without power, but then you would not have the amplified speaker functionality.
The amplified speaker functionality is great for spoken directions from some the map softwares available.
Here's a link to a car mount with amplifying speaker:

I have bought one of these, but I have not recieved it yet.

Wish you will be successful in chosing one best suitable for you.
Your profile doesn't say what country you're in, and the answer varies by location. In the USA, Routis is a top-notch application for navigation. Pharos is absolute garbage. Deluo, the company that makes Routis also makes a very nice GPS receiver that works well with the XDA I and XDA II.
Bluetooth GPS receivers are rather silly, in my opinion. Totally pointless, since you need to power both the PDA and the GPS, so...you might as well wire them up. The Deluo kit has a nice arrangement with a lighter socket and a single cable up to the device to carry both power and the GPS data.
I would like to know how you get on with the Arkon, I have the same one and it is unusable, every time the phone changes to a different cell you get that doomp-de-doomp sound, when the phone rings the noise from the speaher due to direct rf breakthrough is absolutely atrocious and makes the system unusable.

Kaiser – Do I need external Antena for driving.

Hi Guys ,
I have the Kaiser ( the best device to date ,right ?)
I never drove a car with satnav before. My question is:
1. Should I Buy an antenna to get GPC reception on a Kaiser. The Kaiser will be stay in a standard holder somewhere on the car’s dashboard.
Hi 3uk!
mine works well ! East Yorkshire..
Apparently it depends on the windscreen... some are reflective....
Sorry not to be technical...
I think try it before you buy extras...

I have mine sitting in a cupholder under the windshield and the GPS reception has been strong. Try it and see if it works for you.
Mine sits very low in a brodit holder specially made for my floating console (volvo s80 new shape) and it works fine with full bar strength for tomtom/gps without an external aerial

Hands Free Bluetooth Car Kit (AT&T Tilt)

I recently got an AT&T Tilt and am looking for a good, reliable bluetooth kit for my 2005 Toyota 4Runner. I found two different kits that look good, and I want to know if any of you have any experience with these:
Parrot 3200 LS Color:

THB Bury Comfort Compact 9060:

I just want a good kit that wires into the vehicle and uses the car speakers. Any suggestions on other kits are welcome.
Thank You for the help.
Motorola T605. I'm looking at getting that one now and it looks pretty good. I would link to it, but I'm tired, I've been drinking, and I will be asleep in about 117 seconds from now.
www.safewireless.com
Visit www.safewireless.com and check out the car kit demos on the parrot car kits, this will give you a real feel of the kits. Also they have car kit and harness bundles.
If you have any questions, call them and they will tell you evrything you need to know about Parrot car kits.

I got this last night and its great http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390945
I was specifically looking for a wire free audio streaming soloution, but the hands free profile stuff works great.
Hi I have used a parrot ck3100 for years now (for the last 4 phones I have had) cant fault it updated the software through Bluetooth each time and still working today, easiest way I found to fix in to the car to mute radio and put call through speakers is to get a conversion lead form a dealer, (£20.00 ish in the uk) this fits between your radio and the car kit.
I have the parrot kit installed in my subaru. my tilt and my wifes samsung are paired to it and the friggin thing works great. i suggestthat if you have the original radio in your veichle, then get the wiring adaptor for that car. this way no wires have to be cut. if needed, i will post a link here for the website were i got the adaptor for my subaru.
I also have the CK3100. It USUALLY works great, but I have had some issues w/ my Tilt. Occaisionally, it will phantom dial when I first start the vehicle. When that particular glitch occurs, it will continue to randomly mute the stereo for a couple of seconds every few minutes.
A recent firmware update to the Parrot seemed to fix the problem, but it started again after a week. I just got a new Tilt (warranty replacement) and haven't had the problem again, but it's only been a couple of days. It was a week after that firmware update before the issue recurred.
If you go w/ the Parrot, I highly recommend www.parrotkits.com for a wiring harness. I'll say that I did not like the way it functioned in my Nissan Titan due to the way the factory stereo is configured - it caused a loud pop in the amp when switching between the stereo and phone. In most other vehicles, this should not be a problem. It sure did make the install a breeze.

[Q] Car Dock for i9023

Can't seem to find an official Samsung car dock for the i9023, does anyone have any experience with using an i9023 with the official i9020a dock?
(Looking at getting this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OEM-New-...981735?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item53e8eab627 or otherwise importing from US)
Anyone? Does the official dock work with i9023? Thanks.
I ended up buying one, works fine!
Thanks! Will give it a try.
Does the car dock put the Nexus S into car dock mode when connected ?
Pretty sure its a passive dock and therefore doesn't. I've heard of people putting an NFC sticker (about $1) on the dock and using NFC Task Launcher to make it auto open Car Home, though.
If your car has bluetooth and auto-pairs, you could also set up Tasker to open up Car Home when it detects your car pairing.

Installed Joying double-din in 2011 Chevy Malibu; My experience for anyone doing this

First off, got off Amazon within a week. I did upgrade my speakers and add an amp, because I was quite sure the output voltage would not suffice to drive speakers to my enjoyment.
Removed factory radio. The Joying unit is deeper and since I was using the rca jacks, it made it impossible to push all the way in my dash to mount. So I borrowed a sawzall and cut the old rear mount for the factory radio. This gave plenty of clearance for me to mount the deck.
Mounted the Bluetooth mic right above the rear-view mirror with the clip. Mounted the gps antenna on dash at base of front windshield. Routed through a-piller, driver's side.
So got everything put back together. Flashed Malasya custom rom, and upgraded to newest mcu.
The unit is snappy and everything seems to be working as expected.
I have ordered a backup cam, hd tv receiver, 3g dongle. will mount the current sirrus antenna roof connector. using power amp to read my mp3 info.
I am new to xposed framework, so im learning what it can do. no chimes suck so i might bite and get the adapter kit to fix that.
Well thats just my general experience for anyone looking to take a plunge...:silly:
Thank you for sharing your experience!
A direct link to your unit would be welcome!
