I have my new Lumia 820
I have two email account setup on it
One using the default setup option
One setup as exchange
Both set to "as they arrive"
good 3G signal, brilliant in fact 13.5mbps
Yet the emails do not arrive quickly at all, average 5/10 minute delay, sometimes longer, or 20 minutes later when I've forced an update.
Irritaing as the iPhone 4s I'm trying to escape from is binging instantly on both accounts
In fact Ive set it to 15 minutes pull, we're at the 25 minute point and one of the accounts is not getting the email that's been there 25 minutes waiting for it.
There is something about gmail and Windows Phone. I have found on any WP7 and now WP8 device that gmail will not push emails to the device and all sorts of weird things happen if I try and make that work. Very odd. I set mine to "every 15 minutes" which works fine for me, but it is a pain.
I am close to moving to Outlook.com just to change this!
Creating duplicate named OutLook.com accounts and getting the GMails to forward to these makes it work well
But its a cludge.
You guys are setting up your Gmail as Exchange, right? m.google.com for the server?

Hi all,
I have an AT&T Tilt, and use e-mail on it. However, it is very annoying for me to, every time I want to receive mail, wait about a minute or so waiting for it to log in to the mail server. So, my question to you is: Can I stay logged in to the mail server? Then when I push Send/Receive, it doesn't have to log in again?
Thanks
What type of email are you accessing? Exchange, POP?
I assume it is a POP account since you mention "log in"?
Are you getting a pop up window that askes to log in?
If it takes an excessive amount of time to log in, could it be a problem with your mail service? It only takes mine about 3 seconds to log in.
Yea, mine takes about 2-3 seconds to login. Once I hit send/receive, it logs in pretty quickly.
If you have a Gmail account or Yahoo account or something like that, try setting that up as an account to see if it isn't fast.
I don't think there is a way to stop it from loging you out / disconnecting after you send/receive.
Windows Live for Windows Mobile.
Its not working correctly for me on Hyper Dragon III Full rom. Installed a cab for Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800. I then set up email (I have a legacy hotmail account) via messaging > windows live. Inbox fails to sync, but contacts will sync. After fiddling with manage folders sent items will sync but junk mail wont. So at present i am able to sync contacts, and sent items, but not inbox or junk mail.
Tried thinning down both folders (Less than 50 messages each) but no dice. Any one else having difficulties with windows live and hotmail, or know of a fix for this issue?
I know the server isnt broken because i can sync sent items and contacts...
Trim them down some more. Same thing happened to me. I think Microstink changed server settings and won't synch a heavily loaded inbox. I have only 26 items in hotmail inbox now and it works fine.
I thought they took care of the heavily loaded inbox by only displaying last 50 msgs...
Any who, slimmed inbox to 21 messages, and still no sync "Failed to synchronize Inbox"
Surprisingly junk email did sync with only 5 messages... Ill slim down my inbox some more, bur will be upset if my inbox will only sync with 5 msgs.
It worked after slimming inbox to 4 msgs. whats the point.
Had 25 emails in my inbox and it brok'd again... Boo . Is there another way to sync hotmail besides going to mobile live via PIE, or using mobile live?
This is ridiculous, i would say its an issue with my build current build of Windows Live Mobile, but sent items and junk mail are syncing now... Its the inbox that wont sync. It seems to be very enigmatic.
Anyone having luck syncing hotmail/live inbox with other builds of Windows Live Mobile? If so what build are you using? What rom are you running?
Thanks in advance,
James
This happened all of a sudden for me... I don,t think it's a ROM issue but a server issue. Might be a good time to consider using Gmail. I don't have this issue with my Gmail account.
Not a bad idea .
Hotmail seems to be working ATM. I'm gonna have it do syncs every 15 min for the next day or so.
Opened a gMail account as well, nice that they have imap!
What's the maximum attachment limit for Hotmail on mobile?
It doesn't seem to bother with anything bigger than 2MB... how lame!
Kinda makes HSDPA pointless lol
I've always had problems with Windows live, first setup it syncs flawlessly then nothing but fails. Totally useless. Like you say whats the point in having to log in via PIE, clear your emails out, then re-sync. I'm absolutely amazed that Microlimp haven't sorted this out yet I mean come on its not like people receive less that 5 messages a day what with spam and whatnot.
Useless.
The only solution I think is to forward all your mails to a Gmail account, but im pretty sure that's not a free service, nothing in life usually is.
Live Mail won't download
I've been running into the same problem where my hotmail account won't download. The symptoms are that the email account works fine (access from a PC always works), then suddenly poof, my phone won't synchronize with the server anymore.
On the WindowsMobile website, this is a known problem with the email service and MSFT is trying to fix it, but it's still broken.
The workaround is to find the offending piece of email that is causing the logjam. Once it's been moved to a non-synchronizing folder or has been deleted, Live Mail downloads just fine again. The problem is finding the offending piece of email. For expediency, I just copy ALL my mail to another folder, just to get the downloading working again. I have not found the characteristics that cause the problem, but I do know it doesn't happen to simple text emails.
I've been having problems with this for the last month, very annoying.
AutoSync
So far so good, with auto syncs every 15 min. Hopefully it will last, or at least allow me to find out what mail is causing the sync to break... I didn't know that there are bugs in Windows Live, (or perhaps it !is! a feature to have sync break) maybe it should be degraded back to beta.
I have been having this problem for the last few days, thanks for the notice that it was due to an e-mail jamming it up.
It was my e-mail coming from skyfire, the one telling me to log in and dowload the beta.
I deleted it, and it is working just fine now.
Autosync
Autosync-ing every 15 min or so seems to do the trick, so far for me. Haven't had any issues since cleaning out my inbox and setting up auto sync.
* Damn, didnt realize that i get so much cr*p!
It's taken me a while but now I am convinced that no matter if I have my Fuze connected to charger or not, every morning is it hung up on email "disconnecting" and I usually have to soft boot. Sometimes I can change applications, sometimes it won't let me, to cause the email program to resume. I have it set to periodically check my email every 2 hours, and it does get some email, but then hangs and doesn't get the rest until I can un-hang it. Anyone know what the problem is? I'm using the original ROM. TIA
Solution?
Did you ever find a solution for this?? I am having the same problem...
Regards,
Joao
No.
The only thing I can do is whenever I want to get email is to either reboot or sometimes I can force is to disconnect, select a different email account and try to log in.
May be,just may be, you have a 'bad' email(s) in your inbox. It affect the sync process.
I once had this problem with my windowslive live account, I cleaned my inbox and I wz able to sync normally.
This is just a probablilty,,,

Not likely. This has been going on for over 5 months, and I only store mail for 3 days. Sometimes I have to delete the account completely from the Fuze, and start over new. Then it will work for a while. Very frustrating, especially coming from Blackberrys which worked flawlessly for over 5 years.
by the mean 'inbox' i meant about server inbox,,,
well, blackberry sell its email service since 5 years ago, while WinMo OS introduced this pushmail service like,,, a year?
but still, we HTC owner deserve more
HTC: when beauty meets intelligence and power,
Blackberry: email, email, email, email, and prestige,,, LoL
(I'm an iPhone and BB hater LoL LoL, a lot of ppl in my country bought those devices only for its prestige,,,sigh)

I know you meant server inbox. But, if I make a new, identical account, it works, even though I make no changes to the server, so I do not think it is anything on the server.

I am not using any "push mail" service. I simply have the HTC poll the different email servers to see if there is any email at a preset periodic time. It usually "hangs" on the same account, even though I have two accounts on the same server. But, I do poll the "problem account" more frequently than the other account, so it may just be the law of probabilities. In any case it is quite frustrating, especially since is seems you and I are the only ones with this problem.
Actually, my problem is a bit different than yours, my phone was never 'give up' on retreiving emails from google and yahoo (which use IMAP4 idle connection). It just has an issue with live account sync.
And the problem was solved (by cleaning my live inbox)
I googled about this winlive issue, and turned out I have lots of comrades LoL
I got my Note just a few days ago and I am getting to know it but I'm having a really stupid and annoying email problem.
I have an iPad and a Note and the same gMail account configured on both. When I get an email in the gmail account, the iPad gets it first EVERY time. If I test the email by sending it from my PC, the iPad will get the email in a few seconds. The Note always takes longer. Sometimes 10 seconds, sometimes 20 minutes and occasionally, never at all!!
I've tried both the gMail app (which I hate) and the stock Samsung app (gmail setup as exchange) individually and both together and sometimes one will get email first and the other will get it 10 mins later!
I've also configured my wife's iPhone 4s to get the same emails and that too gets the emails exactly the same time as the iPad.
What on earth's going on?
I had a Galaxy S before the Note and that would get email at exactly the same time as the iPad, every single time.
Auto sync is on, email is on push for both email apps. Both devices are using the same gmail account.
Can anyone please help, I've completely factory reset my Note twice and the problem's still here.

Try this:
Set it up as an Exchange account like this:
enter user name and password
do manual set up
select Exchange
leave domain blank and /your user name as is
leave password as is
change server to m.google.com: 443
select push
Syncs just like any other Exchange account. Should receive everything at the same time.
Thanks. I tried this and it didn't seem to make any difference but I tried something else that seems to have done the trick.
I was previously syncing email, contacts and cals via the gmail account and not using the exchange account. I unchecked ALL the sync items on the 'normal' gmail account ie no contacts, no mail and no cals but checked contacts on the exchange account. Just to recap:
gmail account --> no sync for any items
exchange account ---> sync mail, contacts etc
selecting anything else to sync using exchange seems to have done the trick. It now seems to sync and for the moment, it's getting the email within a few seconds of the iOS devices. Few seconds later later though
Now onwards to tackle the sucky battery life...
So far I am really loving my Windows Phone but I have little thing thing that is nagging at me. Has anyone noticed an inconsistency in email push. Has anyone else noticed this? I have my live, gmail, and exchange syncing and they are all set to sync when mail arrives. I've noticed it because I can get notified on my desktop that I have mail in exchange and sometimes my phone doesn't notify me until 15 minutes later.
I only use exchange (2010) and my phone normally get it before my desktop.

In some corporations (like mine) the Exchange Server has two separate instances -- one for the corporate network and one specifically for the mobile device support. Synchronization between the two servers is not instantaneous, so there can be delays (both ways) between when emails are received on each platform. Sometimes, the Activesync software (used to support the mobile devices) can introduce delays as well.
