[Q] Lotus Traveler - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see that in Nokia's spec sheets for the Lumia 920 they list IBM Lotus Traveler support, does anyone know if this is built in and natively supported or are they dependent on an app from IBM (yeah right...) ?

I'm wondering this too, I work for a company that uses the crappy Lotus Notes and would like the Traveler app so I can get my email on the road.

yep, it's a dog of an app on android so I'm hoping for native support

Surely someone owns a WP8 that can confirm it either way

Hi everyone!
I'm working for one of the Polish companies that are using Lotus Traveler.
I just contacted with one of our user that have Win 8 and this is what if found out:
1. There is no additional Lotus Traveler in Win 8 on the app list.
2. There is no option to choose Traveler in mailbox setup wizard.
What it looks like is that Traveler on Win 8 will be setup the same way that is setup on iOS - by special profile generated by Traveler.
There is beta program that your company can join to get beta support of win 7.5 and 8.
I will get test phone next week, so if I will get some solution i will share it with you.
If you will have any questions regarding Traveler let me know as I'm supporting it for my company.

IBM tweeted at me that support was coming Q1 next year, so by IBM's normal release pattern expect broken support added Q4 next year and bugs to be worked out by about Q3 2015

Nice, how did you manage it to work?

And how to WE get access to it ?

Any news on how to get Traveler working on Windows Phone 7 & 8 with version 8.5.3. UP2 ???

Anyone find out if this is going to be released soon ?

How Traveler work
Let's say your traveler is set up on traveler.mycompany.com :
Now all you have to do is to connect your smartphone to traveler.mycompany.com, then type your login/password (your login can be "John Doe" or "[email protected]" or eventually if permitted by your admin "jdoe" , your password is your lotus internet password : the same that you use for webmail service )
Now you're on a setup page, and all you have to do is click on the "configure you're Iphone/Android etc..." link.
For iphone, it will set-up a profile on your device and that's all.
For Android, it will start downloading the traveler app automatically
For Windows device, i think this is like Iphone, a profile and then an activesync connection.
If anybody want's more details, feel free to ask i'm a lotus domino/notes and traveler admin.
regards

SO this can be done without a 3rd party app and just like a standard Activesync connection ? Does this have to be enabled server side for this to work (I'm a Exchange admin but, don't know notes too well, working at a company on notes)?
I do know there is iPhones and Android devices using the Traveler apps accordingly at my company.
As Notes DOES NOT support Windows Phone devices as of yet, Will it setup a profile for me or do I need to copy the info and create my own connection ?
Would love to get this working so I dont need to pop out my laptop to check an email here and there...

Traveler does not have support for latest windows mobile devices.
It does actually support windows mobile only up to version 6.5.
I cannot be sure this will work, but you can try to install it as a regular exchange account directly from your device.
If your traveler address is https ://traveler.mycompany.com, then enter https://traveler.mycompany.com/servlet/traveler on your device. ( add servlet/traveler at the end.)
If it doesn't work, please note traveler 9.0 should be released soon and will support latest windows mobile devices.

Can you download attachments ok? Everything else works for except attachments

Hi,
I could not Download attachments. So we upgraded to Traveler 9 with IF1.
On traveler 9 you can not open notes encrypted E-Mails. IBM is working on it.
On 8.5.3 Not all Mails are synced to my device.

HTC TyTN II with Lotus Notes/EasySync Pro

Hello,
has anybody already succeeded to sync his Kaiser with Lotus Notes? If so, how (I think I have successfully run the application unlock and switched the device to a One-Tier Security), but EasySync keeps claiming that the device is not connected or ActiveSync is not running ... neither is correct. Thanks.
I'm using Nokia Intellisync handheld addition v6 to sync with Lotus Notes.
The only problem I have is that I sometimes have to soft reset the kaiser so it can re-connect.
Dave, thanks for the hint ... I may have to resort to that if I can't get Lotus Easysync to work. Did you have to do any type of Application Unlocking ... or id Intellisync just work? J
I use EasySync Pro V4.24 and have not had any problem with it sync'ing with my Tilt. Didn't have to do anything other than load the app on the phone. worked right out of the box.
Hmm, no, that doesn't solve it. Just installed Lotus Easysync Pro 4.2.4 and the error is the same ... 'Unable to connect to device. Verify that ActiveSync is running'.
This is how I did it:
1. Install MS Outlook 2003 (maybe 2002 will work)
2. Install Lotus Notes connector (free download from MS).
3. Connect them up and sync the 2 apps.
4. Run Outlook and sync the PPC with Outlook not Lotus.
You can always just keep Outlook running in the background all the time if you are one of those unfortunate people who doesn't think Lotus Notes is marginally worse then gouging out your eyeballs with rusty nails
Cheers,
Joe
[EDIT]You will need to upgrade to the latest version of EasySync which in compatible with WM6 - I think this is 4.2.5 or 4.2.6.
If you don't want to pay IBM approx. 50ukp for the privilege or can't get your employer to buy the license, try Googling "PDASync" which comes in a 'free' evaluation version or I paid about 30ukp for the full version.
This works fine for me!
I've been syncing Lotus Notes 8 with my kaiser using Easysync Pro 4.2.5. No issues so far.

It works straight out of the packet, and it's very easy to set up.
Ok, I downloaded a Trial version of PDASync 4.1 ... and it works right out of the box. I would still be interested to figure out why Lotus Easysync 4.2.5 is not working. Would be greatful for any additional clues. J
Just curious- have you disabled your software firewall? Had many PDA's hang on that.
I use Mnotes from commontime it works well
I just use a program called Mnotes -> http://www.commontime.com
Easysynch Pro does not work here either - something to do with mishandled Notes permissions I believe - Noyes 8 client here.
But I've cracked it here with XTND Connect - very well behaved both with my old Treo and new HTC Ty TN 11

did you enter the notes id file password in the easysync settings?
Thanks - but yes
Possibly not helped by my Notes install being a bit odd - multiple address books for example
try the visto solution...
go to preview.wirelessinbox.com
1) sign up an account
2) download the desktop assistant
3) you can sync your kaiser with lotus email, contacts and calendar over the air (aka push email with PIM functions)
i am using exchange plus a couple of other internet email accounts with this.
hotmail, gmail and yahoo mail is supported directly on the visto application on the kaiser.
Only ONE Thing is important
If you install Lotus Easysync and it installs itselves to the PDA, you're prompte if you want to install it into the Memory or onto the Card.
NEVER INSTALL IT ON THE CARD.
Otherwise you have to hard reset your PDA and re-install everything. I tried every other hack and fix and application and more and this is how it worked. Just installed it after a hard reset of the PDA and installing everything else, into the memory and it run.
No Prob using MS AS 4.5 + IBM ES PRO
Hello All,
Greetings from sunny Greece.
Downloaded Microsoft ActiveSync from MS website, installed IBM EasySync Pro v4.2.6 (on TyTn II --> device, NOT SD).
Works like a charm with Lotus Notes 7.0 (did not try 8.0 though).
Just had to provide my Lotus Notes Password.
Unable to connect to device. Verify ActiveSync is running.

Please Help! My company migrated to Lotus Notes

Hi all,
sorry for posting, but i've realy used the search functionality but all link i've found about this were dead.
My company migrated to LOTUS NOTES coming from Outlook.
How can I synchronize my Calendar / Contacts with my Kaiser?
Is there a free software alternative?
My God. My company migrate from Louts Domino to Exchange/Outlook
I can imagine why
Do you know a good sync tool for Lotus notes.
Local sync is enough (no need to direct sync with the domino server).
If you want to just sync with the local lotus notes installation then you can use Mnotes from commontime.
If your wanting to sync on the move then you will need to use Msuite but your company will need to install the msuite software on a server to push the mail out.
Both work excellent but I prefer to use Msuite
Mnotes works great , but try as well the new solution direct from Lotus Notes. Lotus Traveller is a real notes client and does all kind of push mail , sync or text info messaging .
Works perfect with my notes 8 .
Like multi-plattform blackbery funcitionality but from Notes Native.
Hi,
my company migrated to Lotus Notes 6.5 (therefore i think i can't use Lotus Traveller)
Next problem. I've tried mNotes, but after i've installed it it tried to connect to the internet (if i click on the service in the right bottom corner and look on the first page).
Why does this tool wants to connect to the internet. To a CommonTime Switching Center (csc.commomtime.com)
I've thought the sync runs local????
Kind Regards
Seppl
Oh God they Went TO Lotus Notes?
Time For a New Job.
First Act of my Reign When I came to my company, was to get us off Lotus Notes. I could never get it to work right On PCs, Let alone my Mobile.
My company use notes and I can't connect through the Wireless to the server and they wont pay for a data plan. So I installed outlook and used the Lotus Notes connector to sync all my contacts, calendar, and email to my phone. It kinda sucks. It would be nice to wirelessly sync all the time.
But hey it works.
I use Intellisync. It does not have the best of interfaces, but I successfully sync with Lotus Notes 7 and have done with 6.5 in the past.
Having said that, I am regularly complaining to our IT director about Notes. Awful program.
My company uses Lotus Notes 6.5.4. Everybody complains but I.T.'s response is "Notes is superior and has better blah blah blah stupid users we're not changing."
I use Commontime's mNotes to sync; if you pay for the subscription plan, you can also get push email. It's works good, but has minor flaws; for instance, I sync at home with Outlook, and occasionally notes within todo's are copied to Notes, and sometimes I get a "replication or save conflict" especially if I've been on the road using InOffice.
But Intellisync can't handle the home Outlook sync. It duplicates entries like crazy. If you're only syncing to a single desktop, Intellisync is good but with 2 desktops it's worthless.

Sounds like we might work for the same company!
I finally got fed up and set up a hosted Exchange account with Sherweb. I set up a rule in Lotus Notes to have all my emails automatically forwarded to the Sherweb account, and have an alias (my work email address) for the outgoing mail. Now I don't have to use Lotus Notes at all anymore because they give you Outlook 2007 for all your computers. I have push email and wireless syncing for calendar, contacts, and tasks, and couldn't be happier.
If you want to sync locally XTNDConnect PC is your program.
TDO
Easy Sync Pro works flawlessly for me. Why would anyone switch to Notes 6 when Notes 8 is the current version? makes no sense.

Activesync with Lotus Notes

I'm wondering how to active sync with lotus notes?
I'm intressted in getting my calendar into my diamond, and have the contacts on the computer incase of an accident.
Any good way of making this work?
Activesync won't even sync with windows mail, only with outlook. Even under Linux it was not possible to sync anything.
I know this is not a professional answer - but I think it's a no go...
greebear
Upgrade your Lotus Notes server to version 8.0.1 and then utilise Lotus Traveler (which is included with 8.0.1) to sync mail/calendar/contacts, etc, with your phone after installing the Windows mobile Traveler Client...
Not sure what server we have at work, I'm home right now. Will check it out monday. Thanks for the tip captainsensible.
I used mNotes by Commontime for years - it's pretty good software and has been around for ages.
Will it work with lotus notes v 6.5 ?
This is the version we have at work so I guess the traveler client is out of question.

sorry, but this is incorrect!
I regularly sync my XDA Diamond with Kontact - the KDE PIM
distribution is OpenSuse 10.3, you need "opensync" and "synce"
the installation is quite a pain and it took me some time to get it right, but it works!
the good thing about opensync is that it is a universal sync tool, once you connect, you should be able to sync with any application a plugin exists for (be it evolution, mozilla, palm, other mobile phones, syncml, ...)

hi if you want remote sync (OTA) you should use Notes Traveler, if you want local sync - you can choose Easysync pro from IBM. http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/products/easysyncpro/

[Q] mail client activesync/traveler?

ok so search isn't working for me atm..
has anyone had issues with exchange activesync with the native mail client?
more specifically, i've been trying to setup Lotus Traveler manually by using [mycompanyhost].com/servlet/traveler
but it's not working.
on the other hand setup was a breeze on my Nexus 7 with seemingly (only looks-wise i'm sure) the exact same native mail client using the same settings.
if not the native mail client, then...I don't see any free alternatives on the playstore.
p.s. there's no way i'm using the official traveler client lol
thanks

I've got the Traveler ported on my phone. I don't understand exactly what's your problem. You couldn't install the Traveler or configure it? And what is the role of the activesync in this story? Maybe I could help you if you're more specific.

hi piskr
well i'm trying to avoid the Traveler client actually since it hits the battery life pretty hard
instead i'm looking to use the native Email client on the Razr i to setup a Traveler account by way of exchange/activesync
this is done by using the manual method of setting up Traveler where you enter your username and password and server yourself rather than say letting the Traveler client do it for you
but this method fails with the Email client every time saying it couldn't connect to the server
i just think this this is not normal behaviour since it works perfectly fine on a lot of my other devices e,g, most recently, my Nexus 7, where I attempted the exact same setup only minutes after the moto failing.
so I'm just wondering if anyone's run into this or know a workaround even.
K-9 mail only does webdav
and it seems most other activesync-capable mail clients on the store are paid apps
things ive tried:
clearing Email's data and cache
adding the account via Settings instead of Email's wizard (same thing really)
making sure Data sync is on when I do all this
Traveler manual setup:
Server field: [companyhost].com/servlet/traveler (dependent on your server settings)

Hi,
I must say that I've never succeded to establish LN client as a normal email client though I tried with my previous phones (Defy, Defy+). But I constantly use the Traveler client for email and calendar. I never have such experience regarding battery drain. On the contrary: comparing my battery use with others published here I'm far above average. I don't use bloatware, heavy wallpapers and don't play games though. But I use a lot of productive software (3 navigation systems, voip, 2 mails, cameras, tv client...)

then i take it you don't use push, but instead sync periodically?
My experience with the native android email client isn't good as well. It eats a lot of my battery.
To be honest: For connecting a company client I would suggest to take a look at the app TouchDown.
It is not cheap but from my experience it's the best client I ever used and it could replace Lotus Traveler as you can read here: alternative Lotus Traveler clientandroid/
You can try this app before purchasing it.

No, I use the mail as a push. I even receive mail on phone before it arrives to computer client. Mails are truncated though and I expand only those I want. Calendar synchronizes every 10 minutes. But look please at my consuption. In the time it was measured I read 2 mails. I advise you to give the Traveler a try again. Then monitor the consumption and find out whether is the Traveler really the one which drains the battery or is it something else?

Hi,
I'm an IBM Domino administrator.
I'm using the native email client with my traveler server but results are not the same depending of devices.
I'm using a Nexus 4 (Stock rom, non rooted) and it's working well :
For login I'm using the Lotus ShortName
Password= internet password
server= myserver.mycompany.com/servlet/traveler
Port 443
SSL Options : Accept all certificates
If it still not working for you, please tell me the Traveler server version ( Im using latest one : 9.0.1 If3 )
The problem with native email client is if your server require validation for your device, then admin profile cannot be installed before your admin has validated your device.

[Q] Nokia Lumia 925 & Lotus Notes Traveler - Attachments Problem

Hello, company wide we use Nokia Lumia 925 (Updated on latest version Lumia Black) and have company Email through Louts Notes Traveler 9 (Latest Version and fixpacks installed, Domino 9.0.1 64 bit, IBM Notes Traveler 9.0.1.0 Build 201312102121).
We are experiencing a very strange problem and maybe someone can help:
When I receive an Email with an attachment it apprears normally in my Lotus Notes mailbox & and also on my phone. When I answer to this email from my phone the attachment gets deleted out of the email that is in my Lotus Notes mailbox. The attachment is still shown on the email that i have on my phone but has been removed from my PC's client mailbox. When I look into the sourcecode of the email I see that the mail has been updated by the Lotus Notes Traveler Server.
I've attached some screenshots to this thread, maybe that helps understanding this weird problem.
Thanks a lot!

We use Active Sync.
Hmm... without knowing more than is easily available over a forum, I can only presume a bug in the ActiveSync implementation in Lotus Notes (people still use that?!?). Does it work better if you use IMAP? I would normally recommend using AS instead, but in this case that may not be worth the benefits.
We are facing the same problem but did not found a solution. We are also running version 9 of Lotus Traveler.
Do you have the problem with Android or iOS ?
