[Q] Can I use an Inc s cdma (verizon) ? - HTC Incredible S

Hello,
I have an htc incredible s for flashing; but it's an cdma device (verizon); when I'm configuring it I have an error message "Unable to activate you phone. You may need to find an area with better coverage (near a window, or outside). Please try again or call custom service for more assistance."
We haven't cdma technology in my country, then I want to know if I can use it as gsm device or no ?
Thank's

Of course not, it's a different technology, and as far as I know it doesn't have a sim card slot. Try to google it.

you mean find a solution on google or something else?

You will not find a solution to use CDMA for GSM it's mission impossible.
You don't have a SIM card slot so you can't use GSM SIM card.
By google it I meant to find difference between CDMA and GSM to understand your mission imposible.

WTF? I thought the N1 was unlocked?

Hey yall, I just got to israel and I had purchased an N1 banking on the fact that it was carrier unlocked... I just popped in the new israeli SIM card and every 5 seconds an error message pops up saying com.android.phone has stopped, this doesn't happen in airplane mode so I don't know what to do. Back in the states I had popped in an ATT sim and it worked fine.
it is unlocked but only to certain carriers and certain radio frequencies. american ATT and Tmobile I know work, cant tell you much about Israel though. What carrier are you trying to get it to work on and maybe we can see if the radios match up.
Yup, it is unlocked. There is something else going on wrong there. Try reseating the SIM card? Maybe you got a bad SIM card?
It's celcomm israel, could it be a CM 6 error?

hmm, the Nexus should definitly be able to pick up those 2G bands atleast. Call the cell carrier and see if it is on their side, i heard somewhere that some carriers block other cells unless you give them the IMEI to unlock service, or something like that.
Well, I just popped in my bro's Orange SIM and it works fine... But mine is cellcom so that may be the issue.. it is also a USIM card not regullar sim, could that be it?
it's definitely not a frequency thing, GSM is 900/1800 which the N1 supports and UMTS is 850/2100 which your phone supports
in terms of why the sim card won't work, try going to a cellcom store, one time i got a bad sim from them so who knows
Well, I found the right APN settings, but when I type them in and hit save it doesn't add itself to the list, I typed them in without the SIM card in to avoid the force closes, but when I put the sim back in, I still have the force close issues

isnt a USIM completely different technology? i thought that is what CDMA carriers in the states use, or the nextel technology uses. i dont think that is a gsm network...

no that's CSIM, USIM is just a SIM for UMTS (3G) networks
Force closes aren't connected to anything being locked, they're OS error.
USIM or no USIM doesn't matter. Nexus works 100%, with both Cellcom and Orange. In fact I've installed FRF91 on one with Cellcom SIM, and it works fine.
Reinstall stock or close-to-stock FRF91 and check again, if it fails - exchange the SIM.
You won't see the APNs in the list unless you have the SIM inserted, and if you've added APNs without SIM - they're most probably worthless (unless you've entered MCC and MNC, which are taken from the registered network when you have the SIM installed). APNs show in the list only when their MCC and MNC match those of the carrier. When you use MarketEnabler or MarketAccess, for example, the APNs disappear from the list until you revert back to normal.

Okay before I go any farther, some definitions are in order.
UICC = Universal Integrated Circuit Card
SIM = Subscriber Identity Module
USIM = Universal Subscriber Identity Module
RUIM = Removable User Identity Module
CSIM = CDMA Subscriber Identify Module
The UICC is the physical strata or card where the DATA is stored. SIM, USIM, R-UIM and CSIM are applications or modules flashed onto the card.
The SIM application (which is used in GSM networks) contains information about the users account and other relevant information that the handset will use to communicate with the mobile network.
The USIM application (which is an update to the SIM application and is used with UMTS [3G] networks) again, stores user account DATA and other relevant info required by the handset to operate on a mobile network.
The R-UIM was originally developed as an add-on to the SIM application to allow CDMA networks users to have the same functionality as a GSM user where by the user could change his/her handsets ad hoc. With the added benefit that a CDMA user could remove their R-UIM and insert it into an unlocked GSM phone and utilize like they would their own phone, thus allowing for seamless billing across foreign (roaming) networks.
The CSIM is an update to the R-UIM where by the USIM application is added to UICC to allow for seamless roaming across different types of mobile networks.

Is the phone sim unlocked? I don't know how it works with Sprint but that would be the case with GSM providers
If it's Sprint, it's CDMA.AT&T and T-Mobile are the only GSM providers in the US. However, it should work there if you get the SIM unlocked. The SIM unlock code is formulated based on the IMEI, so there are three ways to get it:
From Sprint. Probably the simplest, but tricky if you're not the phone's original owner.
Pay a site or unlocking service with the algorithm that decodes it from the IMEI. Usually runs around $10-$20.
Try the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586704
You can also try this app, but it only works on rooted phones running the original ROM:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.viper.simunlockhelperfree
Good luck.
How do i go about unlocking the Sim? I cant get the unlock box where I put in the code to come up!

Bro, A CDMA PHONE CANNOT BE UNLOCKED. IT WON'T EVEN WORK ON ANOTHER CDMA CARRIER LIKE VERIZON. ONLY SPRINT SIMs WILL WORK.
Make sure u buy a GSM phone if u plan 2 use it on another carrier.
But the phone uses GSM! It picks up the network here but I just cant get the unlock box

Then it simply isn't a Sprint handset. CDMA phones can only work on that particular network. The phone is custom-made just for that network

Can I turn my HTC Desire 510 CDMA (Sprint) phone into a GSM?

I have this HTC Desire 510 Sprint Phone, it has the SIM slot but in they said me that is only for the G4 connection.

tap phone and open the dialing pad an hit *#*#4636#*#* then tap Phone information and scroll down to "set preferred network type" in there you'll find a way to switch to LTE/GSM but I don't know if it will work unless the phone is S-off or already carrier unlocked.
Hi! thank for the responce.
My phone carrier is unlocked, i do what you said, then restar the phone, then put the SIM pin and a pop up message appear "Unlocking SIM" wait for 30 minuts and nothing happens, the little popup window remains there, the only way to take it off is pulling off the SIM.

So does mine and it's also CDMA and from what I know the CDMA phones cannot be unlocked from the carrier to use another network and the only one cable of doing that is the GSM phone not the CDMA ones. So mines still locked to Sprint and I'm s-off too.

If you want to get s-off, and your phone is 32 bit and NOT 64 bit, you can go to the website ---> The Root Ninja and download the app called Sunshine that @jcase made specifically for obtaining s-off. After you get your one time, one use license, if you need help with it you can either talk to @jcase or if he's not available you can come back here and I'll help you out. If your phone is 64 bit don't bother even trying to s-off it's not going to work with Sunshine and don't bother @jcase about it working for 64 bit because it doesn't and won't.

If you're not in USA then it doesn't matter because you're phone is most likely 64 bit since only 32 bit is sold in USA. If you're sim unlocked already there might be a way to get GSM to work so try this... Open the phones dialing pad and enter code *#*#4636#*#* and then tap Phone Information and then scroll down to "Set preferred network type" and select LTE/GSM auto (PRL) and then see if you can get it to work. But you'll most likely need your service providers APN (Access Point Name) and you'll have to set it up in the phones Settings in Network.

no, my phone is a virgin mobile (from sprint) i have tried the 4636 menu but with no luck, the phone only allows me to change to some of the options like LTE only, LTE CDMA, LTE WCDMA, CDMA EVDO GSM WCDMA LTE AUTO, GSM WCDMA LTE AUTO, GSM WCDMA, CDMA + LTE EVDO AUTO, and others and with any it doesnt wrabs signal. any of the gsm ones should do the trick but none does it.
and when i try to auto connect to network show that my simcard dont allow connection to this network and i tried 2 working sims with the same result

I've tried to tell a lot of people that there's no way to get a CDMA Virgin Mobile brand phone to work on GSM Networks, it's impossible and no one bothers to listen to me so I don't tell people to not try anymore I just try to support what they want to do. It's never going to work but you can keep trying and if you find a way to get it to work post the solution here.

ok, but how are you so sure?
the htc one m7 and the m8 from sprint can be used on gsm being cdma phones in first place, in fact i do own a htc one m8 from sprint that i succesfully unlocked and use it right now with a gsm network in my country.
also i do remember that other cdma/gsm phones like the htc pro 2 was capable to work on either network.
maybe something is still missing and we havent done all to achieve succes. ill keep try before selling the desire like this

Because Virgin Mobile purposely made it that way so that it can never be used with any other carrier but them... I know this because I have gone out of the Country a lot because I'm in the Military and when I asked VM to unlock the SIM card they said they cannot unlock it because even if they did it's never going to work with another SIM/Carrier and believe me I tried and tried while I was in Afghanistan and I eventually just gave up and bought a small stupid flip phone to use while over there instead. But like I said, you can keep trying. I'm not trying to tell you not to try because you might find a way when I couldn't.

We need a gsm 510 radio to work on it. if someone have a knowledge uptill radio level, who can patch radio of 510 then it may work..
but @MrMike2182 is right too.. lol , but we never know... like sprint htc m9... people thought its impossible to unlock, but now you can sim unlock it ..

im begginning to suspect that the lower level devices the issue is that the hardware is acutially different. flagship phones are not made with many different variants,so the simlock and profile are controlled via software and thus able to be "unlocked"
ive gotten a sprint one max to work on gsm,but tried alot of different things trying to get a virgin mobile desire 816 to work with zero success. the fact that folks to use these phones on other cdma networks does indicate they are no longer sim locked.
cheaper phones like this the best advice is to sell it off and just get a gsm version. there are plenty out there that will work without the hassle.

Trust me I've done everything under the sun to get this sucker to work on GSM and it won't do it... When Virgin Mobile refused to SIM unlock it saying it cannot be unlocked I got pissed and S-off'ed the phone and it works with other CDMA carriers but it just won't work with GSM but I was thinking it may have something to do with the radio but I don't want to mess around with that just yet because that'll brick it for sure if I get it wrong..

true. lower end devices, dont have capabilities. i used htc one max sprint on gsm , it works on cdma with nv and also on simcard. m7 also works that way, but to make it work with other cdma sim, we have patched radio for m7, it was realased on some chinese forum, later posted by someone on xda. Htc one m8 sprint, verizon works best. works on gsm, works on cdma sim, works on nv too with other providers, you dont even need to touch radio.. i even relocked and got latest ota. still it works best with all. truly world phone..

SM920P Can't establish wireless data connection troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I bought a SM920P Note 5 (Sprint) in , I could use 3G at VietNam without any problems but when I arrive at Japan, I can't use 3G anymore, only ordinary phone calls and SMS. The phone keeps alerting this error : lte:esm - 29 emm - x unable to stablish a wireless data connection.
I have entered the APN setting of the carrier. I tried to put the SIM into another phone and it works without problems.
In the settings>more>about device>status : the networks says HSPDA. So I changed the Bearer in the APN setting to HSPDA but still no luck !
My OS now is Nougat, and I don't think the phone is rooted because I'm receiving auto updates.
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this problem?
Forgive me if there were missing information, just ask me and I will provide, sorry I'm not very "technical" !

I only have 4 mode in my network mode :

If I chose CDMA or LTE/CDMA there won't be any signal at all, the working options are GSM/UTMS and Automatic which I assume is the GSM/UTMS itselft.
Any ideas ??

Did you get Sprint to unlock your phone for a different carrier before you left? Those APN settings have to be set exactly right and you must save it. Once you change your network mode it may take a bit to get signal.

I do not know if rooting it would do you any good. I am not sure if changing the firmware would allow you to change carriers. I am not even positive that's the problem. Did it ask for some kind of code after you inserted the new SIM?
Is it a data only SIM? I think it needs to be a data only SIM being a CDMA phone.

No problem. I could be wrong but I am pretty sure your Sprint phone is CDMA and I am pretty sure that the only thing your phone uses your SIM card for is LTE data. So if I am correct you need a SIM that is data only. The other phone it works in, is it CDMA or GSM?

Actually I don't know anything about the CDMA or GSM things. Here is the result I got from googling the spec of the other phone :
Technology
GSM / HSPA / LTE
So, assuming you're right, can I just "disable" the calling and SMS function of the SIM, make it to become a data only SIM? I already got into a 6 month contract here, so I can't change the contract type in about 5 months !!!

You are welcome. I do not think you can do that to a SIM. The other phone sounds like a GSM phone and if the SIM works in that phone it will not work in a CDMA phone. I would go to your new carrier and ask if there is anything they can help you with. That's assuming that you are not carrier locked to Sprint. Then you have the fact that the CDMA SIM will not work in your other phone.

Yes I am sure. I have seen CDMA carrier phones that were refurbished by third parties that "claim" they are unlocked for GSM carriers. I am not sure how much I trust that. You may hit up Sprint support and see if there is something they can do for you. If you bought it on contract from them they may not do anything for you.
Good luck.

Try to change the band in *#*#4636#*#* menu. Try CDMA-only or any includes CDMA. CDMA sim must be in 1-st slot of the sim-holder. I`m not sure if the phone supports CDMA but you can test it.
