Accessibility - Motorola Droid Bionic

Just got my dad a droid bionic. He has an eye disease and needs the screen images to be larger. I was really hoping to find an app for him similar to the stock accessibility zoom feature, but a fullscreen version that he doesn't have to drag around. Basically he just needs to magnify the full screen somehow. I looked on the play store but all I found was video magnifiers for magnifying objects with the camera. Any ideas?

Edit: I am very experienced with rooting phones/recovery/custom roms. If anyone knows of a good rom or root options that would enable me to magnify the screen or even just increase the size of the icons/fonts that would also be acceptable.

Me too, I wanna know why this simple problem haven't any answer?
maybe it has something to do with the touch functionality of the Super AMOLED display. As far as I know it is integrated between the AMOLEDs. so I could imagine that this is turned of while you switch the display off. and so you can't use the touch sourface for control. but I'm not familiar with the tech specs.
but it would be nice to have such thing if you watch a vid. there you don't need the controls...
we could ask the developer of NoLED. he has some insight about the display and the controls. maybe he has an idea...
Any solution ?
+1 me also want! portable video player,,
Sorry to ressurect this but to some of us tv out is practically unusable (phone gets too hot due to the screen being constantly on. If some app comes around in fixing that would be a lifesaver.

Bad camera on my phone?

Hey guys, recently i have noticed that on my phone, when taking pictures in low light settings, It has these weird "lines" across the image. Whether the "lines" are horizontal or vertical, they are there.
For example, the images i have uploaded. This one has the horizontal "lines"
I have searched across the net, and I am not able to find any low-light settings with these problems. So... Do you guys think my Captivate has a bad camera? maybe, a bad sensor or something like that :O
P.S. Yes, i know i need a new keyboard xP
I didn't see any lines on that picture
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Its on the bottom of the picture. Its not like a black line but it is like a line of noise x.x
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
It's a bad camera, but it's not just you.
There's a reason why high end phones have LED lights. You can't create light out of nothing.
Wait... so is it a bad unit, or is it normal for the camera in low light conditions?

dude your keyboard is disgusting....i think i would have to wash my hands after using it
on another note....my first phone had a pink dot in all the pics i took, att store exchanged it without a question. no lines, but to me it kinda sounds normal
OP, I took a picture last night and it had the same effect. Disappointing because it was alot worse and it my favorite out of 70. Ugh.
I can't really provide any input on your Q though. I assume mine was just a fluke, but you say it happens every time for you.

Lol, well I still haven't gotten a definite answer x.x is this a problem, or is it normal for the camera in low light conditions? >_>
Btw, if it is pass the 30 days and I go to at&t, will they exchange it, or would have to go through warranty with samsung?

My phone does it too... its normal.

Ah, I see those lines. They are normal even in high end DSLRs. You have to increase the ISO quality, that means use the lowest number say 100. However, when you do this, blur is more obvious.
However, I also noticed that our camera's sensor isn't really good. I tried ISO 100 and timed. I also was not holding the camera. It took a sharp picture but it still produced the noise on dark parts of the image. Taking pictures using DSLRs on ISO 100 doesn't produce those noise. I'm really not expecting too much from this phone since it's got a very small sensor.
Ok. Thanks. My camera lenses was also kind of dirty and I cleaned it and it helped a little. But thanks for all the help

I may be mistaken, but I thought that those two values were the only options?

You can only choose between the two settings. No other options are available on root or non-rooted devices.
You'd have to get a third party camera app like camera 360 or vignette to change that stuff

I am now using Camera360 and I just have to say the quality of the pictures is worlds better then the Motorola app. The colors are more accurate and not washed out, and the focus is quicker. All in all the pictures I am getting with Camera360 are on par with my Panasonic Lumix camera, and the ones with the Motorola app (well they kind of sucked). But anyway, Camera360 was the best 3.99 (or 2.99 I forget) I ever spent. For anyone complaining about the Motorola camera, PLEASE give Camera360 a shot. The program doesn't use all of the screen because it is not qhd compatible yet, but the finished photo is still worth it. MUCH better
Side note: The "paper camera" app is pretty cool if you can't draw to save your life but want some memories that look awesome like that. I found it today & thought it was pretty awesome.

I gave Camera360 a shot. It was way too buggy for me. The viewfinder kept going black on several occasions. It also didn't want to quit when I tried to exit the camera a few times.

[Q] Camera

Love the phone, especially with the Revolt 1.5 ROM, but I hate the camera. The camera lag, time between touching the button and getting a picture, is terrible. So bad, I can't use it to pictures of people/pets in candid moments. Tried taking photos of my boss opening her birthday gifts. All I got was blurry photos of her face buried in the next gift, not the photo of joy of her opening gifts.
Is there anything that can be done? a setting maybe, or a software issue that a future ROM could fix?
Love the phone, other than the damn camera!

You could try a different camera app. I personally haven't had issues with the stock camera, but I've been using camera advance pro. More features and seems to work smoother

Get a real camera? I haven't noticed anything to terrible but this thing isn't a real camera to me.. I have a 60D for that
The only thing that can really be done is inside the settings menu itself. Change the focus mode to face tracking, and turn flash off. The bad part is when you change the settings it does not hold once close the app.

camera update
mtmichaelson:
thanks for suggestion. I am trying Advanced Camera. The shutter lag is much less; so that is great. Also I like aLL the options and look forward to getting to use them all. BUT, there is a proble. The app has locked up twice on me and it only has been 1 hour.
xjli:
I have had and will soon get a dedicated camera, but I would like to be able to capture spontaneous shots whenever the opportunity arises. I always have my phone; won't always have a camera. The Advanced Camera app might be the answer if the force closes go away.

I've got a 30D. Love it but doesn't exactly fit in my pocket hehe.
I've noticed turning the flash off helps with the delay. And as I'm sure xjili will agree, you should almost never have that damn thing on anyway. Flash ruins the white balance / color of photos and makes them look horrible. Easily the most over/mis-used feature of any camera.
My personal favorite is when people use the flash when taking a picture of something far away... Do they really think their built-in flash has a range of 50 meters? But I digress...
Does Camera Advance have any sort of "shaky hand" compensation feature? Awhile back I purchased Camera ZOOM FX for my original Droid; it had that option and it actually worked really well. I totally forgot about it until now, but I'll install it, see how it works on the Revo, and post a review of some sort.

From what I've seen, there is no stabilization feature, however three is an option for a burst about, which takes three images in rapid succession. That could get a clear shot if you have the shakes

Camera ZOOM FX seems to work very well, lots of features including the stabilization feature, but the accelerometer in the Revo appears to be too sensitive to make use of this.
Other features:
*Burst shot. You can set the delay between each photo as well as how many to take (up to 14).
*Add effects to your photos, with lots of effects available for download in the market if you're into that kind of thang.
*Can be set as default camera app.
*Timer delayed shot. Also has an option to take photo when you clap, but I haven't tested that.
*You can set swiping left/right/up/down to various functions like changing white balance, antibanding, zooming in/out, et al.
*Digital zoom seems to work pretty well.
*Haven't had any FC problems, and it definitely snaps photos faster.
*I like the interface considerably more than the stock one. Will get some screen caps if anyone expresses interest.
I'm definitely gonna be using this I instead of the stock camera. No problems shooting video with it either.

Contrast Issue

After watching a YouTube video from the app and I go back to the home screen everything is over exposed. the only fix I found was to lock and unlock the screen again. Anyone else having this problem?
I had noticed this once before when using Google Now but I wasn't aware what had caused it. At first I thought it was just the screen but now that I tested it with a youtube video you're right. When it screws up the colors it is really bad looking in Google Now because GNow relies on such a subtle distinction of colors, like the grey on grey. When the screen is working normally is looks fine but after a youtube video it looks really bad, the two greys meshing together. I'm really glad it's just some software issue. I remember looking at the screen once and thinking man those are some bad colors but the screen is really pretty nice when it's working properly.
Yes i do notice the same thing hoping Google comes with an update fast glad to know is not just me

Probably Nvidia PRISM power saving failing to shut off. Annoying. Software update should fix it.

I'm curious, I'm not seeing any of this and am wondering if you guys are running your screens at full brightness or something.
I have my N7 set to auto most of the time and am not seeing these types of contrast issues.
Sent from my Nexus 7
My Nexus is stock (but unlocked and rooted). I run my Nexus 7 almost all the time at 40% brightness.
I get this over exposed looked after playing most videos. Happens with YouTube, Play Movies, Gallery, pretty much any videos from any source. Turning the screen off and on works. Or I could just wait an minute and watch the screen gradually fade back to normal-ish.
This isn't my only issue though. My screen also seems to be poorly calibrated. Even without the video playback issue, some of my colors are faded, and whites are over saturated all the time.
Don't know if the two issues are related, but I'm going to try exchanging it because some people say theirs doesn't have these issues.
PS. I don't use auto brightness, that makes my screen way too dark (seems my auto brightness setting keeps my Nexus 7 at minimum brightness most of the time).
I have this issue (as well as minor screen separation), but can't replicate it consistently.
I just assumed it was the screen just 'waking up' from full screen mode, it usually goes to normal after about a minute.
Rarely i see a minor screen flicker/ or tearing (sortof like oldschool CRT television flicker on a few scan lines) during this 'recovery'

nope. brightness set to around 25%. like others, I can't always replicate but it usually happens after watching videos. locking and unlocking the device immediately restores normal contrast. This is the only semi issue i have on my n7. it doesn't even bother me that much, knowing it's a simple recovery

the problem lies within the software. perhaps you're a lucky one who is somehow avoiding this problem or you don't notice the problem yet.

I have the same issue with my N7. Android 4.1.1 completely stock, out of the box. It seems to be a problem with the hardware decoder as using software in MX player does not seem to trigger it, but the gallery player does. I see this not just after video playback, but around 5 seconds after starting playback when I begin to notice I'm losing so many details in highlights. A white contrast test on www.lagom.nl clearly shows the horrible detail level. I hope they fix it soon.

I have the same problem but how are you so sure that it is software problem. If it is a software problem then why do you get a screen shot showing no problem when in reality you can see it on your screen that you are indeed having problem on your screen at this very moment.

Another thing is that it only happens if you watch video in full screen. If you watch YouTube video not in full screen i.e. in portrait then there is no problem of over exposed colors.
