Hey guys, stuck in a bootloop after attempting to flash Fugumod on CM7.1 stable on my Samsung i9000 rom as per the title!
Any ideas?
Thanks for the help in advance
had the same problem. Just flash back to stock using Odin as long as you can get into Download Mode. Can you?
Yup can get into download and clockwork no prob. Back to the stock cm7.1 kernel? Where would i find the .tar for that? Or any other .tar that would let me boot and backup everything?
Cheers!
having the same problem...
I've tried Glitch, Platypus and neither of them can pass the boot screen.
But Fugu works in a mod rom based on CM7.1.
Would anybody help us?
I flashed Glitch and booted no prob. Seems a tad unstable though and would prefer to flash back to the stock cm7.1 kernel. Anyone know where to find just the kernel?

Flash the CM7.1 rom again without any WIPE.
If you do wanna backup the stock kernel, after doing what I mentioned above, try SGS Kernel Flasher to extract the kernel.
"Hi. I'm on SpeedMod K3-13 and want to flash CM10. Do I flash AbyssNote 4.2, reboot recovery, wipe and then flash...?"
"How do I flash this? I'm on stock ICS with CF-Root...?"
"I am on ICS Stunner 4.25 and want to flash ParanoidAndroid. What do I have to do...?"
These sort of questions crop up tens of times daily in various GNote threads. This little guide is meant to give you an answer to those and similar questions, so you'll know what to do. It'll also hep you to not get ridiculed by all sorts of cranky characters (myself included) in the fora.
Safe Kernels to Wipe and Flash From
You can go directly into CWMR, do a full wipe and flash new TW- or CM-based Roms (it doesn't matter which ones) according to their instructions. No need to go back to GB, no need to flash some new kernel, no need to reboot recovery. Just boot into CWMR, wipe and flash like you would in the good old GB days - there's nothing to fear.
TW ICS Kernels
1. All NoteCore kernel versions
2. All PhilZ-cwm6 kernels
3. All Franco kernels starting from v4 and newer kernels
4. All SpeedMod kernels starting from v4 and newer
CM9/CM10 Kernels
These are all absolutely safe to wipe and flash from directly. You can flash new TW or CM Roms, it doesn't matter which one. Following Roms are running CM9/CM10 kernels ATM: official CM9/CM10 (obvioulsy), ParanoidAndroid, Asylum ICS and JB, LiquidSmooth, all AOKP Roms, Ganbarou.
HydraCore Universal Kernel
Universal kernel for all TW- and CM-based JB and ICS Rom(developed by g.lewarne of NoteCore fame). It has MMC_CAP_ERASE disabled both in the kernel and CWMR. You can flash any type of Rom directly from its CWMR (full wipe and flash).
GB Kernels
All perfectly safe to wipe/flash from directly. Side note: don't listen to guys who tell you that you need to flash an ICS Rom or kernel before going for JB. They are wrong: you can flash JB Roms directly from GB.
Borderline Case: Safe - Sort of?
CF--Root ICS Kernels - All of Them
These kernels are safe to wipe from, but not totally safe to flash from. This is what Entropy and Jgaviota say about them:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29263870&postcount=490
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29268600&postcount=492
Having this in mind, my advice would be for you to flash one of the safe kernels over CF--Root, reboot recovery, wipe everything and flash away. Although CF--Root has MMC_CAP_ERASE disabled in its recovery, apparently Roms you want to flash from it can brick your phone with bad update-binary.
Unsafe Kernels - Red Alert!
These are just biding their time and waiting for a chance to brick your Note.
1. All leaked ICS kernels - ZCLP1, ZCLP5, ZCLP6, Angelom's Stock ICS kernel and Neobuddy's modified ZCLP kernel (in old Stunner Roms)
2. All stock ICS kernels running in Roms rooted by the infamous CWM.zip method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810954
If your Rom happens to have any of the above, don't panic. Head over to the kernel thread, download any of the safe kernels for Mobile/PC Odin (they are tar files, not zips). Put the safe kernel tar on your PC, fire up PC Odin, hit PDA and select your kernel tar. Put the phone into download mode, connect it to your PC and flash the new kernel via PC Odin. After the flash is done, go into the CWMR, do the wipes and flash any new Rom you fancy.
Where do I find the kernels?
Q. Where do I find and download all these kernels you're talking about here?
In Kernel Repository thread. Click here to get them.
This should be sticky,thank you!
Once again Chas, a good guide to refer to.....
could you give your advise about this scenario -- maybe it needs a special mention too
Mobile Odin on Cf root kernel ( this combination)
please refer this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30723213&postcount=483
once in a while we do find ourselves on rooted stock kernel or Cf root kernel and wanting to use Mobile Odin....
thanks

As posted above, I would not advise flashing any new Roms from CF--Root kernel, be it from CWMR or via Mobile Odin.
Drop into CF--Root CWMR, flash a safe kernel (see the OP), reboot recovery and be on your merry way.
Good stuff chasmodo Hope the sticky helps other users out.
Latest speedmod kernel I see is K3-13.....which one is V4 which is safe to flash from?
Is it the same as in this thread?

I said v4 and above, which means v4, v5, v6 etc all the way to v13. All of them are safe.
Sorry newbie here. Appreciate the confirmation. Thanks

(Just kidding)
Mobile Odin uses its own safe kernel during its operations. Kernel u are on becomes irrelevant as soon as it boots into its own recovery mode. Or am I the one spouting B/S?
Maybe guys claiming Mobile Odin bricked their devices did wipes on ICS beforehand. Damage already done. Just waiting to freeze next time bad blocks are accessed

Yes, we all know that. However Entropy also said on more than one occasion that MO sometimes fails to flash kernels properly, and advised using SetCPU to double check which kernel you are actually on after a MO flash.
Ah yes, the Franco brick. I use Mo to flash stock. (and yes, I check kernel before wiping) PC Odin worries me in case I get BSOD at the wrong time during flash. Got a new SSD for my Pc and its happening a fair bit. (still working on that one)

Yes, BSOD or micro power outage is always a concern when using PCO. They never happen but one is always frightened.

It's a SpeedMod kernel.
So if I get it right?
If anyone is running speedmod v13 and rocket rom v7 u dont need to be afraid of the MMCBUG, and can flash cm9 directly from ICS if rinning Speedmod v4-v13?.
So any kernel with mmc_cap_erase_off isnt able to brick youre device while wiping...
How sure is this? was there any reported bricks from speedmode kernels, or any kernels with mmc-cap-erase-off???
Thanks in advance?
(and yes i did read a lot and Im still confused, i just want to be 100 % sure)
Take care

There's been no brick reports after flashing from safe kernels.
Thanks for excellent guide: short, clear and exhaustive explanation! :good:
Great idea as usual .Thanks , Mr,Chas..
Thanks
Great thread, Many thanks for put this in place.
How can i move from Custom ICS rom with HydroCore to Assylum CM10 Rom and incase if i need to revert how can i flash GB or ICS stock roms.
Thanks
Hi, yes, this is Dog.
No, seriously, today I tried to flash semaphore kernel 2.2 (JB) to my Jelly Bean Port Rom , wich came with Devil's kernel. When the instalation finished the phone rebooted and now it gets stuck with the Semaphore's kernel screen.
Recovery doesn't work.
Download mode DOES work.
I don't know too much about bootloaders and deeper stuff.
So, what shall I do? I just downloaded Tsunami's AOKP JB ROM, but its a .zip and Odin only allows .tar.. And I dont have a nand backup with JB (i have it with ICS)
Help me! please!
SOLVED: Flashed Devil's kernel back with Odin. Then reflashed the rom with CWM.
i want to switch from kernel hydracore v7 STD to speedmod i have tried to flash it with odin and with cwm but it won`t work it shows the letters samsung galaxy note N7000 and then it stop working
then i have to flash the hydracore kernel otherwise it wont reboot
can someone help me
What ROM are you on ? speedmod is only for TW ICS, so if you are on any other ROM thats why it wont boot.
i`m on stock ICT TW

This happens mostly on ics
In the hydracore thread, there is a zip file named returning back to Hydra v5.3. Download that and flash that first using cwm followed by speedmod
Flash this https://rapidshare.com/files/3372118715/Returning back to Hydra v5.3 std.zip
Then flash Speedmod..
Hi. I am new into flashing in Android and considering of flashing to another rom , sweet rom to be exact. But there's this hard brick bug that is preventing me to do so. I am currently on Stock Jelly bean and it's too laggy , that's the reason why i wanted to flash to another Rom.
Anyway , is the JB kernel still not safe? As shown in the thread of sweet rom , it states there i would just have to flash my current stock kernel to Philz JB Kernel , to proceed into wipe. Some of the instructions are so foreign to me. Is the risk there? Also , i tried Chainfire's gotbrickbug app and it states i do have. That's why i am afraid into further flashing before i get some more information since i am still a newbie!
Thanks in advance bros!
hi,
asfar as i know you just have to flash a safe kernel
(i prefer K5-5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181599 - touristinparadise.blogspot.de/2013/03/samsung-galaxy-note-jb-download.html) trough odin.
after flashing you have the CWM, from there you can flash every ROM you want
I rooted on ICS 4.0.4 with CWM.zip x) not recommended because the kernel isnt safe (?), but it worked for me

Hmm , SweetROM instructions states to flash Philz JB kernel before wiping and then flashing? Sorry man , i'm quite a bit confused!
you can flash any safe kernel first,, philz or speedmod or hydracore.. as when you install the new rom.. it will replace the kernel with its own
