[Q] Help please, may have bricked my phone! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, first I have to explain that I have flashed custom ROM's before, but am not technical at all. This time I tried to update from JB 4.1 to 4.2 and now the word 'Semaphone' is on my screen and nothing else is happening. Is this fixable? Please, please help me if it is. I will need step by step instructions.
Would really really appreciate it if someone could lend me some advise.
Many thanks

Thanks for reply yes, Three button recovery mode brings up 'Downloading............ Do not turn off Target!' Is this salvagable?

Your bootloader has a problem, you need to reflash it.

Sorry to be such a nuisance, but I am a complete beginner. I have Odin, I have downloaded the two files, where do I put what to flash it?!

Sorry for being off topic, but why the hell do you flash a 4.2 Version when the source was released just yesterday? I'm even wondering where you got that version from? Oo

Okay I got this from the post, so I'm gonna elaborate this to you so you do it correctly, okay? Note this, I'm using the XDA app to reply this.
1. Turn on USB debugging.
2. Open Odin on your computer. Select OPS - AriesVE.ops(Odin) and Select BOOT - Boot_loader.tar.
3. Turn off your phone and go into Download Mode(Volume Down + Home + Power Button)
4. Connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable.
5. Check Odin. If Odin detects your phone, it will appear yellow and state Com: 0 or something like that.
6. Then, flash your phone. Wait for it to complete the process and let Odin reboot your phone.
If problem still persist, please do tell me.
Another note, this is base on my experience and I'm not on or near my computer. So I'm sorry if anything happens.
Good luck!

Many thanks, I've got it sorted and running a Jellybean Rom again! Hurray! I thought I had messed it up forever. Lesson learned. Will not try that again............

Your welcome! I hope my assist helped you whether big or small!
Just make sure, you do the regular protocols, backup everything and wipe data etc.
If you want a fresh phone(meaning to delete your current/older rom for a newer one), you could always format system(formatting the system will delete your ROM, meaning your phone will not boot until you flash another ROM).

Try using recovery mode

The phone-!-computer is a download mode, so if you can get to that, you should just Odin 1-click back to stock KK2 (get one with CWM) and reflash Illuminance.

That screen IS download mode - it's just telling you it won't go any further than that.
Follow the steps for what you were trying to do before with Odin, and you should be able to fix it straight away.
Don't worry, this phone is almost unbrickable.

First link has the answer.
unplug phone, pull battery, reinsert battery, while holding both volume buttons insert usb cable, open odin, remove usb cable, connect usb cable to phone and pc, flash. thats the process. done it countless times with the screen you describe.
Just getting stuck with ODIN..
I continued with ODIN update after seeing this issue.. but somehow the screen is stuck at 'Set PIT File'. DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET. Does not seem to be going any further for 30 mins now..
the screen you are telling about is just like another version of download mode
first open odin one click then connect the device in download mode and click on start button you will get device running
Try leaving the battery out for like 5 minutes and/or use another odin 1 click

GalaxyS rebooting in loop and no download mode!

Hi,
I have flashed my GalaxyS with the hardcore kernel. (I rebooted in download mode with "adb reboot download" bacause the 3 key combination didn't work for me).
Now the device is rebooting endlessly with the boot screen "GalaxyS".
I can't access download mode now.
How can I fix this issue?

Hm okay - lets think... you didn't get in Download-Mode before... Now you have a bootloop (what FW do you were on? What Speedmod Version did you flash? etc...) - why should you get in Download-Mode now...
Can you go in Recovery?
If so then you can use "adb reboot download" another time

Hi , if you cannot access download mode through adb or the three button combo you will have to make or buy a USB jig to force download mode (search xda or Google or eBay) then next step is install stock firmware .

1.The combination button must follow corect order [Vol up (or down) + Home + Power]
2.Try to remove battery and put it back, then go to Download mode.

I've put myself in a bit of a hassle. I think I accidentally flashed the wrong ROM through Odin into my i9000 when being very stressed out, since I couldn't be reached while at work because of a boot loop.
Luckily I got saved by the fact that the OS still boots, thus allowing me to enter recovery or download mode using ADB.
But, I can't enter recovery or download mode using the three button combo anymore, seeing as my current ROM is performing too bad I'm now afraid to flash a new one. If I get stuck in a boot loop now I wouldn't know at all what to do.
TL;DR: What can I flash into my phone using Odin to make the three-button-combo functional again?
EDIT: Would "[ODIN] DarkyROM 10.2 Resurrection GT-I9000" work for me?
Cheers

My phone is already rooted and temporarily using CM9, but will flashing these files provide me with the correct firmware? And by firmware I mean which ever software is on a level low enough to handle key presses before boot.
Thanks
EDIT: From what I've read, it appears as the reason I can't enter download mode probably is because I don't have a primary bootloader. I'll try to flash the version with bootloader included.

I managed to start the download mode by pressing both volume buttons, and while having done so for about 1s I connected the USB. This brought up a message telling me to press VolUp to get to download mode and VolDown to reboot again. I was stumped by this seeing as nothing happened as I pressed VolUp, I then decided to press VolDown which got me to Download Mode.
I'll try to install XXJVK now. Cheers!
TL;DR: VolUp+VolDown -> Insert USB after about 1s -> Press VolDown even though it tells you to press VolUp

odin and download mode problems
hi there
i'm not just a Noob, i'm also very far from being a pro', so all the professional terms mean nothing to me. this is why the forum is very confusing for me...
I got my galaxy S Hebrew OS on it, wich turned out to be a troublemaker. i'ts a phone I bought in china, so it sill has strange chinees notifications no one can understand... and no facebook access, and I can't download skype (it says "skype is not available in your country", even when I had an israeli sim and israeli wifi).
I want to upgrade to Gingerbread (2.3.4), assuming it will erase any sign of the hebrew os, plus improve my phone generally.
I have a guide, odin3 and all the necessary files. when the phone is on download mode, the odin won't recognize the connection. I don't have kies, and when the phone in on ordinary mode there are no connection problems (i'm on "mass storage" in the usb options). I tried it with an israeli sim in, a chinees sim in, and without any sim at all. nothing works. everytime the computer reacts with sound and everything (this sad sound of "i know there's something there and can't connect it"). it's a new laptop with windows 7. I don't have another computer, but I can go to a friend's house if there's a chance win xp would work... should I? are there any other known solutions for this problem?
in addition- do you know (or does anybody know) how can I fix the chinees problems (blocks?) with facebook, skype etc.?
*** i'd be glad to receive answers by mail instead of filling the forum with my stupid questions
thank you anyway

I'm not certain but it might be called update.zip, because if I remember that's the only name that will flash in the stock recovery. As for finding it, just try searching for update.zip. it should be on the root of the sdcard(no folder) because that's the only way I thought it could install. Any ways I'm probably wrong but at least you can try.

I'm not certain but it might be called update.zip, because if I remember that's the only name that will flash in the stock recovery. As for finding it, just try searching for update.zip. it should be on the root of the sdcard(no folder) because that's the only way I thought it could install. Any ways I'm probably wrong but at least you can try.

i tried that too. it was unsuccessful. im almost out of ideas. does anyone have a clue about multi csc code that can automatically apply upon booting into stock recovery and then make it automatically reboot the phone?
This is exactly my problem. I just took a picture of it. this it what it says as soon as i boot into recovery. No options. Nothing. Just reboots

I'm not sure really what CSC code is but I think your talking about stock Odin flash able package. That should get you back to stock and flash the stock recovery and wipe everything. However i think it will bootloop after it flashes so you will have to boot into recovery and wipe data. If so check out the wiki. There is all the info you need. I have another idea though. I haven't done this myself but you should be able to push a clockworkmod recovery.img to the phone from a terminal if you have adb also in the wiki. I can't view your pic because I don't have a Facebook but maybe someone else can. Good luck

That is the stock update pushed by Samsung from what it sounds like. Also sounds like a data packet might have dropped during the downloading of it causing a bad install. For simplicity get cwm Installed and boot thru that and flash from cwm. Wiki has all the info needs.
Wiki please read completely on rooting and install of cwm. Suggest 6.0.1.2 version. Personal preferences on that.

Problem solved. I just randimly pushed the 3 buttons on the phone before the rebooting part came up in the script and finally got the menu, took may tries to get to that point but as soon as I got to that point, I was quick to install clockworkmod successfully. Now problem is gone. Hope this thread maybe helps someone else

I have a similar problem. Which 3 buttons are we talking about? Power+Home+VolUp?
Easiest way, take out battery, push volume up and power, insert battery while holding, when Samsung appears release only power, when the android guy with package appears press menu

Make sure you push the "Menu" capacitive button (left in the row of four buttons below the screen) when you see the green Android guy and the box. That will get you into the stock recovery menu.
I had to reboot into recovery a couple of times because I missed that part. What a pain!
