Flashes unsuccessful, need help - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. I'm new to the touch pad, but I have a lot of experience with the Epic4G from Sprint using CWM and flashing zip files. I have preware installed in my webos, and I have CM9 installed as well.
I've spent a few days reading threads here, but haven't been able to flash anything. I think I must be missing something.
Nothing happens when I flash zip files in CWM. I reboot to recovery, flash the zip file, wipe caches, but nothing is changed when I reboot the system. Been trying to install the unofficial with the working camera, and the oc kernel.
Thanks for any help.

Did you check md5s on the zips? Also, is your recovery updated?

As soon as I post a request for help, it works. Of course. Lol.
Yeah, I'm not sure what worked this time, but since I posted previously I set manual flash override in ROM Manager and installed the CM9 unofficial preview 7, the preview 9 update, and gapps, all went. I also installed the kernel that I mentioned, but it got stuck in a boot loop after and had to do the ROM over again.

[Q] I must be retarded ... need help flashing a custom rom

hey guys Im a new to the whole rooting and flashing custom roms thing. I love my N1 and I figured it was time to start playing with it more then the usual out of the box customizations.
I rooted the phone using the one click root app:
(cant post the link since Im a new user)
and then installed the Rom Manager.
I then installed the ClockworkMod recovery like it says to do.
Then I performed a Backup of the Current Rom using the Rom Manager
then Downloaded CyanogenMod 6.0.0-RC2 along with the Google Apps add on.
once the download completed it says do you want to do a wipe and also asks option to back up current rom. I checked both boxes and the phone boots into recovery mode.
Now this is where Im confused on what to do. At first I wasnt sure it the Rom manager would auto load the new rom, so I let it sit for like 10 min and realized it wasnt doing anything. Then I pressed the power button and volume at this point it gives me 3 options ..
1) reboot
2) Wipe
3) load update.zip
First I did a reboot ... which did nothing but re boot the phone, then I applied the update.zip and it failed and then I went to the Cyanogen Mod wiki page
on there is said to: "Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset. "
so I did that and then tried to install the update.zip ... which failed ... and basically erased my phone like the noob I am
So can someone please help me and tell me what Im doing wrong? also I installed titanium back up this time around to back up my apps.
Sounds like ClockworkMod Recovery did not flash. Try flashing it again in Rom Manager.
Should have been posted in Q&A
Thank you. Ill try that.
Sorry for not posting in Q&A as i didnt know about it ... Im new here so please forgive me.
Might be Clockworkmod ROM Manager...
I had all sort of problems with 2.1.0.5 and can't use any of the backups I created with it (they just hang when I try to restore them).
Everything seems OK with 2.1.0.6 though...

I reflashed Clockworkmod and that fixed it ... it flash the CyanogenMod rom, but once I was on there the radio wouldnt work, to I went back in re flashed the recovery.

You had issues too? I couldn't restore any of my backups the other day as well.
Yeah, I was having random problems with my backups... took me a while to realize it was only my newer backups.
Finally worked out that it was the version of ROM Manager. Older versions work great, as does the latest...

CM requires the 4.06.00.12_7 radio. Go to settings - about and look at the baseband version, that is your radio version. Also keep in mind most ROM's will not setup your APN, you will have to do that manually. I thought CM did, but I have not used it in a while. I am addicted to Enomther's ROM.

Help: CM10 stuck on boot screen since I flashed it.

Before I used CM10 i just used the stock (flashed latest GB) that came with my phone. So I flashed CWM5 and cleared all the three stuff I was supposed to. I installed the CM10 zip and since then its been stuck on the boot animation, not even a loop. Just the animation.
Any ideas whats wrong?
Thanks in advance

Well happened with me once when I had put AOKP ROM in my Galaxy Note.
Here is what I did:
Go to Recovery.
Wipe Cache.
Try reboot
No results?
Recovery again.
WIpe Dalvik Cache Also
Try reboot.
Still no results?
Try to wipe data/fac reset and re flash some other ROM as of now (which you are confident about that it will work)
Now go ahead and let the old ROM boot. (Surely it will, as you would have used prior)
Now, go connect USB and check MD5 of the file you had kept on SD Card (I mean the CM10 file)
I found that my MD5 didnt match.
If you think it didnt match download again.
If you know it matches then go for reflash.
But this time before flashing the new ROM just use some cleaning script such as Ultimate KErnel Cleaning Script. In Galaxy Note I used Jbroid Kernel Script. I aint sure now if you can use Jbroid in Ace.
Goof luck!
Press Thanks
I got it working, what I had to do was flash CM7, then CM9 then CM10 :/ after that it was fine Thanks for the help
Welcome
The problem was with the kernel being different in CM10 and official version.

Try to flash with twrp. You can load it as a zip file through CWM or install Goo Manager (can be downloaded in the Play marketplace).

Hi, I'm having the same issue. I've flashed a couple different ROMs, all flash the samsung screen then reboot. I tried CWM first, now I am using TWRP.
Suggestions? I think I need to flash a boot.img but I couldn't find a good guide on how to do this.

I don't think you need anything beyond the zipped rom files if you ALREADY have TWRP installed. What I do is go to recovery. I wipe Dalvik cache, wipe cache and then factory rest. After that I install the zip. I've found that when ever I've been stuck in the boot loop, it's because I didn't do a proper wipe.

Thank you! This did the trick. Apparently in my many attempts I didn't do the right combo.

[Q] Problems with Gapps and boot problem with CWM.

Hi, I'm a noob for messing with my phone.
Although I have googled for 7+ hours I have found nothing that helped me, only things that **** me over.
So here is the story:
I decided to install Cyanogenmod 10 on my device. That worked out okay and stuff, but I couldn't install gapps. It said everything was ok but when i started CM10 gapps wasn't there. I tried 10-20 diffrent versions of CM10, all with gapps and diffrent versions of gapps but it didn't work.
Then I installed CWM. I installed CM10 + Gapps with CWM. Then I tried rebooting my device. CWM booted up. CWM boots up everytime I try to boot the device. I googled and found a file, exitrecovery.zip. I installed that via CWM but it didn't work. So, after some more googleing I found a thread on here that said to flash Boot_loader.tar onto my phone via Odin Multi Downloader. Of course, I messed that up. I tried to flash it using "PDA" instead of "BOOT". So that didnt work. I flashed it again using "BOOT" but now it shuts down after the Samsung text on screen.
I am about to attempt to flash the stock OS into my device using the Package option in Odin (Luckily Download mode still works).
Is using Package the correct way to flash the stock OS into my phone?
When I have it working again I want to install CM10 with gapps. Why didn't gapps install?
How can I install gapps correctly?
How do I get out of the CWM boot loop?
Someone please help me because I don't know what to do anymore!
EDIT: Succesfully flashed in stock firmware. But how do I install CM10 and have gapps working?
Thanks in advance,
-Spore
Easyest way to rescue your phone is to flash 3 file ROM with pit and re-partition.
one of many guides is here
Use one of multicsc ROMs (i'd use JVZ)
Then it gets little tricky when getting to CM10
First of all flash semaphore kernel for JVZ (google it)
Then I'd go through CM9 stable to CM10. Flashing guides are easy to find
Edit. Maybe u're using wrong Gapps? for CM10 gaps are from 20120606 (or something like that - newest are for cm10.1)
Got it working!
I figured everything out on my own.
Here's how I did it for anyone with the same problem:
Download the files ill list below.
Put them all on your phone's internal SD
Boot into Recovery Mode
Install CMW6014-TOUCH-CM9recovery.zip
Reboot into Recovery Mode
Clear everything.
Install cm-10-20130130-ivendor-alpha7-ariesve.zip
Install gapps-jb-20121011.zip
Reboot.
And you're done!
Files are listed down below. Since I'm a new user i have to put a dot in the URL.
The only other file you'll need is fs1.d-h.st/download/00026/J34/cm-10-20130130-ivendor-alpha7-ariesve (dot) zip
does this work for cm9?

Hello, thank you for posting this. I noticed that the one file that you said we should download looks like it is for cm10. is that correct? I have cm9.
Also, what do you mean by "clear everything"?
{EDIT} I figured it out. For any other user that has this problem-- you must ensure that you are using the correct version of gapps as others have noted.
In OP's answer to his own question, he used cm10. and the appropriate gapps for jelly bean. That didn't work for me since I was using ICS. Do not use the file he listed for cm10 unless you mean to install that specific version of cm10, which probably won't work for your phone.
Also, google took about 6 hours to recognise my account on the play store. This is apparently a common issue, and I have read multiple threads where people are not seeing their device linked up to their account after upgrading to custom ROMs. The play store app worked on my phone, but not when using an outside device linked to that account (my desktop). I called google support and they said that they had no idea what was wrong, 3 hours later, it just started working.
So be patient if you do not have the option to use the play store from outside sources right away.

[Q] HELP - Softbrick Galaxy Tab 8.9 Telstra p7320

Hi guys, having some serious issues with my Tab. It's the Telstra GT-P7320T.
So I had it rooted and flashed with the glitkis kernel all working fine still on the standard Telstra version of honeycomb. Then when their update for ICS finally came out (after nearly 6 months of knocking it back) I went to update it in the normal manner, not thinking it would have a hissy fit with the root and the custom kernel.
So after it downloaded it did its pre install bit, it rebooted, but then loaded into CWM recovery, and thats where its stayed. I've tried factory resets, clearing and formatting all the caches (davlik, system etc) i've used adb to push a few different roms and kernels etc to the device but nothing ive tried has worked. I flashed arlics ics rom, but it still just boots into recovery. Ive tried flashing the stock kernel and stock recovery but when i try to install zip from sd them they fail "install aborted (bad)"
Anyone got any ideas on what process and files I should try? Ive searched up and down the forum trying different methods for fixing soft brick and returning to stock but to no avail.
Cheers

hey mate,
i was just caught out by this last night. all you need to do is re-flash on a stock rom with ether oden of heimdall and youre good to go. im sure there is a oden flashable rom on these forums
take it sleazy!
Cheers mate,
Ive been trying to reflash a stock rom by pushing it to the sd card and installing it, but when i go to install it from recovery it tells me the rom file is bad and aborts, like its corrupt or something, so maybe i need to find some different downloads to try. Thanks, there's hope still at least, lol. I'll find the odin file and try doing it that way.

yeah, i think its becaute the cwm recovery doesnt know what to do with the update.
you need to have the stock recovery installed. dont take my word for it though.
just look up a tutorial for flashing a rom via oden. its really easy, just make sure the image you are flashing is of .tar.md5 extension.
You can get the stock rom at sammobile.com. down load the zip file then extract the .tar.md5 file out of it using 7-zip.
God promised men that he'd put beautiful women in all corners of the world. Then he laughed and laughed and made the world round
FIXED!! - Cheers Everyone!
OK, so I downloaded the stock telstra rom off the forum here, its at the top of page 3 at present, flashed that with Oden, which fixed the soft brick and allowed me to boot again. I then flashed the stock recovery, rebooted, got into the system and downloaded the ICS update again. Once it rebooted, with the stock recovery it was able to install and successfully boot into ICS!! I was more stoked than I've ever been before, let me tell you, lol.
how ?
