[Q] HELP - Softbrick Galaxy Tab 8.9 Telstra p7320 - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

Hi guys, having some serious issues with my Tab. It's the Telstra GT-P7320T.
So I had it rooted and flashed with the glitkis kernel all working fine still on the standard Telstra version of honeycomb. Then when their update for ICS finally came out (after nearly 6 months of knocking it back) I went to update it in the normal manner, not thinking it would have a hissy fit with the root and the custom kernel.
So after it downloaded it did its pre install bit, it rebooted, but then loaded into CWM recovery, and thats where its stayed. I've tried factory resets, clearing and formatting all the caches (davlik, system etc) i've used adb to push a few different roms and kernels etc to the device but nothing ive tried has worked. I flashed arlics ics rom, but it still just boots into recovery. Ive tried flashing the stock kernel and stock recovery but when i try to install zip from sd them they fail "install aborted (bad)"
Anyone got any ideas on what process and files I should try? Ive searched up and down the forum trying different methods for fixing soft brick and returning to stock but to no avail.
Cheers

hey mate,
i was just caught out by this last night. all you need to do is re-flash on a stock rom with ether oden of heimdall and youre good to go. im sure there is a oden flashable rom on these forums
take it sleazy!

Cheers mate,
Ive been trying to reflash a stock rom by pushing it to the sd card and installing it, but when i go to install it from recovery it tells me the rom file is bad and aborts, like its corrupt or something, so maybe i need to find some different downloads to try. Thanks, there's hope still at least, lol. I'll find the odin file and try doing it that way.

yeah, i think its becaute the cwm recovery doesnt know what to do with the update.
you need to have the stock recovery installed. dont take my word for it though.
just look up a tutorial for flashing a rom via oden. its really easy, just make sure the image you are flashing is of .tar.md5 extension.

You can get the stock rom at sammobile.com. down load the zip file then extract the .tar.md5 file out of it using 7-zip.
God promised men that he'd put beautiful women in all corners of the world. Then he laughed and laughed and made the world round

FIXED!! - Cheers Everyone!
OK, so I downloaded the stock telstra rom off the forum here, its at the top of page 3 at present, flashed that with Oden, which fixed the soft brick and allowed me to boot again. I then flashed the stock recovery, rebooted, got into the system and downloaded the ICS update again. Once it rebooted, with the stock recovery it was able to install and successfully boot into ICS!! I was more stoked than I've ever been before, let me tell you, lol.

how ?

try this exactly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688000
mrandroid,
OK, I went ahead and tried that. I still have problems. When I go to flash CM it fails the verification. I have tried CM versions in the past with the same result. I have even went as far as to verify the files by MD5s. I have tried what I have seen in other posts and downloaded the files through different browsers... to the same results. I often wonder if it has something to do with my phone. Even when I do nand backups the resulting images seem to fail verification, specifically system.img and userdata.img. The only zip update packages that I have been able to verify are small ones. I hope all this information leads way to a solution to my problem.

In clockworkmod recovery :o

ok so i have rooted my device today, now im trying to install darky's official port rom on my captivate, how do i install it from the recovery mode without hurting and bricking my phone in anyway. I saw a bunch of youtube videos which said to make a backup then wipe data and then installl the zip from sd.
Is this way correct or do i have to do something with odin3 with this rom?

If your phone is rooted and you have CWM on your phone just get to recovery and select install zip from sd card. Select where you put the ROM zip and select it. Simple as that. You can make a backup prior to installing the ROM from ROM manager if you want to do so. I personally do not do it anymore because I change so much and there are issues for restoring if you are not on the same kernel from the backup.
that failed
i tried that twice, installation aborted both times
It shouldn't have. You didn't rename the file to update.zip did you? Are you only rooted with no previous rom?
This is my captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.
problemmmmm
ok by mistake i touched some touch buttons and it rebooted my phone and is stuck on recovery, everytime i restart/reboot in recovery.
should i pull the battery?
i can get
i can get into download mode
I would use odin one click to flash to 2.1. Then get into recovery mode and flash the rom.
This is my captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Sorry I had to get some sleep. What process did you do to fix your issue? And yes the video was what I was meaning for flashing using odin one click. Glad you got it fixed.

[Q] Can't install anything through recovery

Hey guys, so I had MIUI since it came out and kept updating it every friday like I'm sure everyone else does that has it, but today I wanted to try out a Gingerbread ROM other than MIUI or CM7 so I went and tried to install Mosaic IV. I followed the tutorial on MobileTechVideos for installing it and when I got to the part where I had to install the zip from the sd card I did it and it got stuck at formatting partitions. So I waited a while, about ten minutes, then took out the battery and tried starting over from stock again. Then I realized that I was supposed to use a different kernel for Mosaic IV then the one Josh used in the video. So I downloaded that kernel and used that one instead of the one he used in the tutorial. And I couldn't get into recovery mode with it. So I flashed to stock again and redid the whole thing, this time I got into recovery and flashed it but it still got stuck at formatting partitions. So at this point I was like crap I have to get a different ROM. So I tried flashing Serendipity and that wouldn't install either. Then I tried MIUI again to at least get back to what I had earlier today, and I got an error while flashing the captivate-efsbackup zip in recovery. I have no idea what to do, all I want is to just get off of the stock firmware which im stuck with for now since I have to go to work in a little bit. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
I had a similar problem, and the ultimate fix for me was this:
Flash back to eclair stock (which you did)
Master Clear (aka format internal sd - make sure to back up your stuff first!)
Install CWM (may have to go manually - renaming to update.zip and reinstalling packages)
Wipe dalvik cache and cache partition, as well as user data
Install a stable Froyo ROM (take your pick, preferably a full-wipe with no bootloaders)
Reboot to CWM and do a second dalvik/cache/user data cleaning
(If you're going GB)
reboot to download mode
flash stock GB (WATCH OUT FOR BOOTLOADERS!)
boot it up, let it settle, reboot to CWM
flash your GB rom.
(If not)
Go where you would go from a stable Froyo Rom.
That's how I got back from a messed up phone with GB bootloaders to a working Mosaic installation. I can't say it will definitely work for you, but it may give you some ideas.
+1 get clockwork recovery...you need to make sure the rom you are flashing is compatible with the version of CWR you are using.
For example a rom that needs to be installed with CWR3 you will need to install the zip presumably from CWR2. Pull the battery and reboot back to recovery - you should now be in the updated version of CWR. Then for safety sake - re install your zip.
Reboot and you should be all set.
I had lots of trouble going from 2.2 to 2.3. Flashing between 2.3 roms is very easy comparatively

so your saying that you went to a gingerbread rom straight from MIUI? if that's true it failed because you didn't have the gingerbread bootloaders before you installed the rom

I flashed the gingerbread stock rom and have it rooted with xcal's kernel, but when i flashed mosaic IV it got stuck at formatting partitions and i pulled the battery after about 15 minutes and then restarted my phone to find it stuck in a bootloop. So i had to start from stock again and now im back to gingerbread stock with root. I'm kinda scared to try again because it takes me like 30 minutes to get back to gingerbread stock with root. I think ill just stick with stock for a little bit

Upgrade to ICS stuck in boot loop...

Trying to install the Cynogen ICS ROM, and when installing the .zip, it loads the Samsung flash screen with Cynogen, then get the green guy and loads of text for about half a second, then it just reboots. Over and over for about 10 mins. WHat went wrong? What should I do?
It happend the same to me.
I just removed the battery and put it back, entered in CWM and reinstalled the ROM.
Good luck!
I somehow got into a recovery mode, but with the assumption it would all go wrong again, tried to install the .zip Darky rom instead, went through the process and said it worked but then it just went back to the Cynogen loop problem!? I just tried a Restore instead, but I haven't rebooted yet, should I wipe everything again, and try the ICM .zip again?
Yep, just go with the whipe. I hope you did a backup.
OK turns out the Restore failed, so now trying to reinstall ICS .zip again. fingers crossed!
yep backed it up, not that its seems to have helped.
Well now it's stuck in the Galaxy S bootscreen...
that really sucks....did you deactivated the lagfix before running the rom?
If the problem persists you have to run a basic ROM using ODIN.
Yes deactivated the lagfixI can't get into recovery or anything now, except download mode.
Download mode is all you need to run a ROM with Odin.
I recommend Amestris, it is a good ROM, good battery life but the thread in not complete, there are some files missing...for now.
I've put some older ROM on I had, then tried to install ICS again but now when I use Clockwork, and select the file it goes to recovery but I can't select any zip files, just reboot back to this awful old ROM!
I had same issue when I installed ics, what I did that worked was pull battery and go back into cwm, reflashed ics zip and it fully installed that time. Had same experience when flashing cm7 before.
Not getting anywhere with this. I get an option to install zip from sdcard which is where the update is (an where the darky update also is which worked), but there is an option to update from internal SD, which is not where the file is. Is it in the wrong place?
I think you would be best to use Odin 1.3 to flash DarkyROM Ficeto JVT base rom.
are you sure those files are still on your sd card?
The reason you need to pull the battery and reflash the ICS rom a few times is because Samsung ROM (most) have a different partition layout to CM7 based roms (which the ICS port is one).

[Q] Continuous boot, assert failed troubles (Help)

So I posted a help thing about EFS a while back and didnt get to much help with that but i managed to figure things out. Now however
ive got myself into another predicament i cant seem to get out of.
So, from the start, i have a galaxy s3 (GT i-9305T) it was rooted, i still had the stock rom, but was running the beoffla kernal.
The idea was to download and install "JustArchi I9300XXUGML2 stock, deodexed and all the rest" then start finding
some nice themes. Ive got philz_touch_6.07.9-i9305.tar installed for my recovery.
This is where the trouble starts...
So first off i wipe the cache and the davik cache, go to install the rom then i get this: (ill go from installing update)
assert failed: write_raw_image (" /tmp/boot.img" , " /dev/block/mmcblk0p5" )
E: Error in /storage/sdcard1/Just archi........zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
Now i looked up a whole heap of pages to see if i could sort it out myself and i tried a few different things,
none of which have prevailed. First i tried to reflash an insecure boot image then try again, nup. I tried to
flash back to stock recovery and re format (No errors) then back to custom. Mounted /data and /system
and re formatted which worked with no error, still same error when flashing rom though. Also tried flashing
with different custom recovery, no luck there either.
There were a few other things i tried but i cant really remember what i did because
this has been a problem for a while now. Some of the pages i looked over for
information were:

Finished downloading the stock rom, tried to install with philz recovery and got this:
Installing: /storage/sdcard1/I9305TDVBME2_I9305TTELBME1_TEL (STOCK).zip

Opening update package....
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
And thats it, no kind of specific error codes or anything.

Hi.
If you downloaded the stock ROM from sammy mobile are these not meant to be installed via Odin?
There are a few post if you search for some of the pre rooted stock ROMs that you can flash with odin.
I would start from there.

The roms i downloaded from samsmobile were in .zip files, which im pretty
sure has to be flashed with one of the custom recoveries.
Thanks though
at first seems you tried to flash rom designed for i9300
then, you downloaded an ODIN image and you have to flash it by ODIN, no way you'd flash it over any recovery
to be more specific:
unzip the file I9305TDVBME2_I9305TTELBME1_TEL (STOCK).zip you downloaded, you should get a huge file with extension of .md5 or .tar
read in the forums how to use ODIN to flash firmware

letting my phone sit in a bag of rice in pieces for the night
and am going to check things out tommorrow.
