Hi Guys,
I'm currently running the lastest CM Nightly and have never changed Baseband or Kernel.
The question is should i? and is there a better rom to be using?
Hi!
I believe you've got a good ROM now. The latest CM nightly is pretty good I think so there is no need to change that. (Although, you could try Temaseks CM7 KANG, but that's just my opinion , link in signature btw)
BB is another story though. You should ask yourself: Do I have good signal and call quality? If so, then there's no need to change it. At least I wouldn't change it. What I would try to change is your RIL (if it's necessary though). Download the GetRIL app on the market and let it check if your RIL and BB match. If they match then keep it that way . If not change it using that app.
Kernels on the other hand are optional. If you want to overclock your CPU, or if you want a ramhack then you should flash a kernel. Right now I believe you've got stock CM kernel on your phone, which is pretty good, but not the best. Take a look at the ETaNa Kernel thread, (link in signature) There you'll find more information about what this kernel does with your phone.
Oh and one more thing, you don't HAVE TO change your rom etc. I mean, it's not like we're forcing you to change it right? When you're happy with what you have right now, why don't you keep it like that? But, it's your choice obviously

cheers guys, where can i find the latest basebands as my call & signal quality isn't great
I think the first thing you should try (also because it's the easiest thing to do) is to get "GetRIL" app from gmarket or gplay or whatever it's called now and see if your RIL and BB match. If they don't, get the matching RIL and see if that has improved quality. If it has, great, no further action necessary... if it hasn't then you can proceed to experimenting with different BB

Also, not every BB works perfectly on every phone, country and provider... So yeah, as said before, first try a matching RIL and then look if you connection improves...
i've got the getril app and its showing that i dont have matching ril and bb but when i downloaded it to be matching and it actually caused me to drop more calls and have other problems,
restored so they arent matching but im getting better reception and generally internet works most of the time.
so my question whats the point of them both supposed to be matching?
LG 2x
Carphone warehouse open UK
unlocked
current ril 0218 (V10b, Europe)
current BB 1035.21_20111120
the app says i should get ril 1120 (v20l)
anyone have any better combo suggestions?

I suggest you just put that in. Nothing will gonna happen. If its worse than before you can put old RIL back anytime.

In the post that I have posted for the baseband are also the RIL to flash!
So, did you try to put this new RIL? Any improvements?
Like SP1996AC and I said, you should have started by changing only the RIL. This is the easiest of the operations and could have fixed your problem.
Like they say in America, you start by picking the low hanging fruit first.
You climbed the tree and found out that the fruit on the top wasn't good... now you have to climb down again and try the other fruit.

Thanks for the reply. I did try the suggested rail but it was worse which is why I went back to a mismatch. I will try the other combinations but at the moment its working OK so might stick to this until the weekend.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get all the potential from my O2x, so I have installed CWM, flashed DjangoManouche 1.2, and installed the Supercharger script from the Django topic, the question now, is why my battery drains so fast, I think I have overlooked something, and what can I do to get more power from my phone.
Thanks in advance

i can think of two issues...
1)try to change the BB/RIL combination to the one mentioned in the first post of the ROM by the developer...(DJ 1.2 is V20Q)
2)allow the battery to be charged and discharged for a couple of times....I mean a few cycles to check the actual performance...
Personally, DJ 1,2 is the best in GB ROMs - in performance, stability and speed....I am waiting for the Developer to come to ICS ...
Hope he is listening...one of my best friends in this forum.....I am waiting my friend for you in ICS
Thanks for the reply, I think that my RIL is right, because in GetRIL app, it says that my RIL is 0725 (V20q, Europe) and my baseband is 1035.21_20110725, how can I see if my baseband is 20q too?
And how many charges I will need to make, to get my battery working properly? At last, which kernel you think I get best battery / performance? And it's normal to get the phone at 40ÂșC or hotter when charging?
Sorry for my bad english, it isn't my native language

Are you sure that running for maximum performance, you wont damage or even brick your phone? And I guess 40c is kinda hot for the phone.. I used to get this hot phone on couple of roms this winter, but not any more.. I would suggest you to try out Owain's ICS , yesterday came out most stable and smooth version - RC0-35 And today he strted conversation with EaglesBlood , so hopefully soon we will get something amazing..
Friend, and your battery, how much time it lasts? Mine don't last for more than 12 hours of medium use, what kernel are you using now? And I want a stock ROM if I can choose :-D
Thanks for helping

Getting sick of the ICS battery and kernel issues and have decided to clean out the phone and install everything fresh.
I am currently on an unrooted stock ICS ROM (N7000XXLRK) and understand that I should go back to a GB ROM first then install ICS. I will search on here for a guide on how to do it (links welcome ) but am confused as to which ROM I should use of the many stock ROMs posted on here.
Since I am going to do a clean install, is it worth going back to the XXLRK ROM or is there an improved one which has sorted the battery kernel issues out? Which GB ROM can I safely go back to without confusing things before I reflash ICS?
Is it recommended that anything else is added or flashed while I have the hood up? Unless there is an uber stable custom ROM I want to stay stock, but will want to root it.

upgrading to the latest ICS kernel doesn't necessarily guarantee that your deep sleep and excessive battery usage woes will go away.... your deep sleep and battery drain issues are subjective and have lots of factors that might contribute to it.
Don't let the notion fool you into thinking that your issues(above) will simply be resolve by simply upgrading to the latest firmware. Because I'll tell you now.. it will not still. (infact there have been people complaining that upgrading to the latest ICS one have increase more their battery drain than ever before), unusual as it may seem... but it has been complained about already.

First thing I am just wondering why this quoting is broked ? looks like something is broken in this thread.

Third I was just answering him the question he asked in "OP"
Fourth if you are facing deep sleep issues or your device is not going to deep sleep mode then OP can try this..
Turn ON the Airplane Mode.
Switch Off your Phone.
Take the battery OUT for a minute or TWO
Put it back and start your phone.
Wait for everything to load

I have tried the method you describe and also looked at CPUSpy with BBS and on top of that I have the keyboard lockup issue too in Chrome.
It seems that the quality of the phone is completely lower since the ICS updates with it not providing a full day of use on one charge as well as me having to be careful about bleutooth/wifi usage and time that I use the phone to surf. Quite ridiculous really and I haven't had to use a smartphone like this since the days of the HTC Diamond.
Before I revert back to GB and be done with it, I want to try an nice clean ICS install and give it one last chance, unless there is a custom ICS ROM you think I should consider.

Yes, using pc odin you can flash what you like. If you want good battery, it's worth doing a clean install ie perform data wipe/factory reset to clear any old mess, obviously if you're going onto ics make sure you have a safe kernel before performing any wipes at all.
To be honest though, for ICS you're getting pretty good battery life, I doubt you'll top it except going back to GB.
All the best, let us know how you get on.

Yes, I understand that WipeAll is the best way. But this mean, flash safe kernel = root (or can i just flash safe kernel on my stock ICS via PC odin? )
And root ICS = go to GB directly rooted kernel and....etc.
In my old Galaxy Spica I have change kernel or mod (rom) every month but was always just 2.2 froy. So no worry about it.
And still i am reading all thread of all rom in XDA. No rom is perfect. Its working but sometimes some bugs...so i am tired (2 years with Spica) of looking for the best kernel for my note.
Now i want just one normal working with a little good live of battery
btw. What is your live of battery on custom kernel 4.0.3. ? If you say i have pretty good battery i will not it change

Firstly battery: ics swallows a lot more juice than gb, so what you're getting is pretty good. I'm currently on paranoid android jb beta 1.4 with Beastmode kernel and getting roughly 8 hours with 4 hours screen on. I use it a lot! When I was on pure ics 4.03 I was getting around the same.
Roms and kernels: if you flash an already rooted gb, you can do so now with pc odin and it will automatically root. When you've done that, check to see if cwm is installed as it may be part of the package in which case your good to go, if not just flash a Chainfire kernel. Then you have cwm recovery (vol up, home and power) and flash this rom package which includes a safe kernel.
Hope that makes sense.

I presume these ROMs have their kernels built in.
Would you thus recommend one of these custom ROMs for my requirements over say stock ICS with perhaps a different kernel? I am not really looking for lots of features as I would like to build up the apps on my own, ie shut out bloatware. I would like it to be stable and have at least 15 hours of battery life with 3-4 hours screen time, which is what I enjoyed with GB. How do you think CM9 fits in with your selection?
Last flashing I did was on a Dell Streak which was easy as there was only DJ Steve at the time, Seems with the Note I am starting again from scratch, completely different flash process and loads of ROMs. Sort of blinded by it all to be honest

Hi,
Ive noticed.that the 3G battery drain in jb is horrible. I can only get 8hours with 2hours of screen time when on 3G. When i got the phone i immediatly updated to JB, so my question is: is the 3G drain better on ics? If so, what ics update should i flash.
Sent from my LT30p using xda app-developers app
For me ICS is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than JB if we compare battery drain. And yes, 3G is also better in battery.
I'd suggest you 4.0.4 - 7.0.A.3.195 FW. Stock one, totally non-modded.

Hello all, I've been digging around the forum for a while now and I can't seem to find a fix.
I loaded up C-RoM Mix v16 on my i897 just fine. And everything is working well except the signal is poor to barely there now. Everything I read points to changing the modem to a different version.
The current Baseband version = I9000XXJVT
Since this is a i897 I would assume it should be something for the i897 not I9000
However if I try to load a modem from soggycashew.weebly.com/i897-modems.html in CWM it crashes. I'm assuming they aren't modems that work with ICS?
Help? Suggestions on what\how to replace the modem so I can get better signal again?

You'll have to flash I9000 modems, they're compatible with the I897.

First, I'd suggest to use a JB ROM.

Umm yeah, seems like it is. He mentioned ICS and didn't take a look at the ROM itself before answering.
I'll edit my post, thanks :highfive:
