No USB Mass Storage - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got my Razr i yesterday and so far I am surprised (positively and negatively) as to how my Razr i performs.
One thing that really bothers me is the missing USB Mass Storage. At work I have no way of accessing the storage of my phone because I have no admin rights. Thats why I can not install drivers to access the MTP mode. PTP works at work but not surprisingly I can only see the pictures. It would be nice to have an option either to activate USB Mass Storage on our Razr i or somehow make PTP see all the phone.

Yes that's a big pbl!
For the moment you can download on the market an app to mount your SD card ( "Multi Mount SD-Card Lite" for example) but it's just for the external card, not for the internal..

Thanks for the tip with Multi Mount SD-Card Lite, it didnt work though or i cant configure it properly. I installed it and it told me something about mtp fix needed and to reboot my device which i did but still it didn't work and that msg appeared everytime even thought mtp fix was activated. everytime i connected it to the computer and pressed the widget it got the message sd card unmounted and on the computer only the automatic mtp assistent started

Try an other app because some works with root.. :/

yea i got root, so this shouldnt be a problem

Ok, so it isn't normal yes! Did you valid the superuser authorisation?
Instal the app, reboot, open it, valid with superuser and then connect your phone to the pc.

Doesn't work for me either.
I check the "fix MTP", root access accepted, reboot, etc. But still the same message.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=819888
It's work for me.

Even bought the app thinking that the free app might not support it but still nothing. I thing we have to find a way to prevent the mtp or ptp connection to fire up. Something like a charge only option should help.

strange, this app has absolutly no effect on my phone.
The phone still show as MTP on Windows XP. No UMS device at all ...

original thread of this app is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389375
and it clearly states:
MTP
Another thing to note is that devices using MTP (such as the Galaxy Nexus) most probably won't be able to use UMS via the App at all. There have been reported a few suggestions to fix that, but atm those fixes doesn't work. I'm working on that, but i'm doing this in my sparetime and don't have a device that uses MTP myself, so it's hard to work on that. Anyway you can try.
seeing as the Razr I is using MTP as well, no wonder it is not working
edit:
okay found a solution, look into my new thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34441900

2 suggestions
1. Uninstall your lg mobile drivers and reinstall latest driver, available in my mediafire folder if u don't have it.
Or
2. Try a stock cm kernel and try mounting again.
Wasnt you doing sokething with the volf.stab? Like changing internal as external card?

How does the system recognize the phone? Go to Device Manager (or something like that) and watch if there is a yellow mark upon a driver.
I had the same problem yesterday, I had to delete and reinstall drivers

UMS Mode for ExternalSD Card Jelly Bean Support

here simple application that will enabled UMS mode for External sdcard
root needed.
how to use:
safe way on version 2.5 is :
enable UMS Mode when cable usb is unplug
Back to Charge mode when cable usb is unplug
safe way on version 3.0 is :
do it on condition usb plugged
note:
if you plug into player or some device player , and you found that it cannot found the USB drive
in this case just do this
settings -> connectivity -> usb connection type
and do press or repress the "Charge Only"
in version 3.0 you will notice 1 triangle on task bar, its normal , it telling you mass storage is currently unmount
2 icon on task bar is telling you the mass storage successful unmount you can take it out
those of notice are normal if we do unmount the mass storage in android api level.
all the information about how to do it i found on XDA forum.

Version 2.1 gives reproducible blue screens with Win7 x64 SP1 at the first link when I confirm the superuser, or in further tries, when connect the USB cable.
Only uninstalling the apk helps to solve the problem.
A little off topic:
After UMS_mode.apk does not work for me, here is another way to access both memory cards in the P880 (and any other Android-Device) from Windows OS:
Install Total Commander (Shareware): http://www.ghisler.com
Install Total Commander Plugin "Android ADB" (Freeware): http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/android_adb.html
Android device driver has to be installed too!
Through links, both SD-Cards appear with 3 differen pathes in the P880 operating system.
The external SD-Card has its mount point in (!) the internal SD-card:
Code:
Internal SD-Card:
\\\ADB\LG-P880\data\media\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\mnt\sdcard\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\sdcard\
2. external SD-Card:
\\\ADB\LG-P880\data\media\external_sd\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\mnt\sdcard\external_sd\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\sdcard\external_sd\

Wow!
This is the greatest thing created for this phone so far.
MTP is painfully slow, doesn't work with cars/stereos/etc, requires installing drivers everywhere I go, crashes all the time, doesn't allow access with a file path, and somehow caused my sd card to wipe itself three times in two weeks, so this was a major issue for me that was making me regret buying the phone.
Initially after installing this app (v3.0), I had to repeatedly toggle UMS/MTP mode and plug/unplug my phone from the computer several times before it finally started working, but now it's perfect.
If you have a paypal or flattr link, and I'll send something your way. Or put it on the Play Store so I can buy it and update
Thanks!
thanks

I can not confirm unfortunately.
I wanted to give the app still a second chance and have installed 3.0.
Then I restarted the phone, without starting the APP before.
Now it hangs on startup LG boot logo.
Even without the second SD card the same problem.
Any idea without factory reset or flashing KDZ?
My phone is still stuck in boot, but I have an access via adb shell to system.
Unfortunately I have no permission to access "/data"
Could anyone tell me the aplication name of this UMS-Tool under "/data/data" ?
I only found "com.noshufou.android.su" in classes.dex, but don't know wether this is right:
Code:
[email protected]:/data $ run-as com.noshufou.android.su
run-as com.noshufou.android.su
run-as: Package 'com.noshufou.android.su' is unknown
[email protected]:/data $
Ok, I guess it's not quite working perfectly for me now that I've used it a bit more, but I still love it.
1) it's really tricky to get it working initially. I almost always have to toggle it multiple times and sometimes reconnect the usb cable.
2) like someone else mentioned, it never remounts the SD card so I have to restart the phone to get it working again after I'm done.
I have not had any problems on boot like BudCord.
I'm running stock firmware 10f.
Anyone have v3 hosted any where else? I can't download from media fire.. no captcha support..
Tried stock browser, dolphin, and chrome..
Any chance to get it working on mac os x (10.6.8) ?
For the moment it is the only default i found with this phone : the lack of "connections" with Apple's OS :/
PS : I searched on the web and I found a solution for Mac OS X users : Android File Transfer (on the official website).
Sorry I can not the url because I am new on this forum.

MSC Mode on CM11/FXP308 under Windows8.1pro-x64 bits ??

Hi everybody !
I have a Sony Xperia SP- C5303 - Rooted,TA saved,BL unlocked :good:
Rom custom : CM11/FXP308 :good:
My problem : I can't connect my phone in MSC mod, so I can't see my SDcard , to put files on it.
I have only the choice into MTP mode or PTP mode. (go on the tab, "USB connection at computer" in the right corner, under"Stockage" when you select "Parameters".) [Parameters>Stockage>USB connection (tab in right corner)]
So, I unticked the MTP mode and PTP mode.
I connect my phone at my computer, and i see a problem in the devices manager,my phone C5303 has a little yellow triangle on it; he isn't recognized.[/B ] --->error in .jpg --->link : ht tp://hpics.li/acab5e2
Under others modes (MTP,PTP), the phone works perfectly and he is recognized no problems. Even, in fatsboot mode and also in flashmode mode.
What can i do ?
I'm on Windows 8.1 pro X64.
Thanks

Wow your question was unanswered for a very long time!
I suggest for you to tick "MTP" in your device settings. As in OP, you have unticked both, which possibly makes your Windows unable to "know" the protocol in order to interact with your device.
MTP is Media Transfer Protocol, known to be widely used in Windows in order to connect media devices.

It was impossible (natively, maybe?)
I also prefer to use it mass storage too. Being that sometimes connecting XSP to my Linux box, it yields a mounting error, which forces me to logout of my Linux session, and login again. I don't find any solution for now. Maybe this should be requested officially to Cyanogenmod?

Yep, me i use the "mtp" mod ans its work nice. I have an sdcard adaptor too.
But this app can be useful too . Ex: to show a movie on the sd card from an external player (PlayStation for exemple).
Yeah this post is a bit old ^^
Did you try enabling/disabling Android debugging on your phone? Sometimes, my Xperia SP does not show up in My Computer when Android debugging is on.

USB storage

Does anyone know how to mount a usb storage device in lollipop and where the directory would be?
When I connect my usb otg device, the light flashes on the device so I know it acknowledges it but then it doesn't seem to mount. When I go to settings/storage the option to mount is at the bottom but when I tap it, it does nothing. Please help, this is really pissing me off.
Look into an application called StickMount, I'm guessing that's what you're missing.

needs root. why would an extra app be necessary anyway?
Believe it or not, Im pretty sure Android M will be the first release with native support for external storage (playing off memory here, so pinch of salt and all that). Until then, workarounds are unfortunately required. I agree with you though, you'd think it'd be plug-and-play.

MTP mode not showing half the files

Hi, when I connect my phone to my PC using MTP mode it shows me only some of the files, most of the other files are missing.
This is becoming very annoying as I cannot see most of my files but can see them using the File Manager I am using on my phone.
Please help, is there a solution to this?
Is there a way I can mount the phone as a USB Mass Storage device?
Or maybe install a recovery without losing any of my data and then mount as USB mass storage using that recovery?
EDIT: I am running stock 5.1.1
I cannot upgrade to 6.0 until I get a backup of all my files.

TWRP only has MTP. No idea on CWM or Philz since I don't use them. But I would assume they use MTP as well.
USB mass storage was removed from android over 3 years ago in Jelly Bean. So the odds of it being in this 2014 device and it's recoveries would be slim to none. MTP is better for the android OS, less chance of corrupt files and crashes.

Okay, thanks.
But CyanogenMod did support UMS mode in 5.1.1, but doesn't seem to be there in 6.0.
One final question.
Using MTP mode to transfer photos changes their last modified date, messing up the dates on all my photos.
Any way to fix that?

You can try to use the MTP mode of TWRP. I've always had luck using it when not all files where shown in the booted up system.
I don't know any way to fix this, but copying files, as the name implies, will always create a new file at the target location, which will then have the creation date from when it was copied, as it is a new file.
You can actually sort these files after their original creation date in Windows but you'd need an android gallery app, that is able to do the same.
