MTP mode not showing half the files - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, when I connect my phone to my PC using MTP mode it shows me only some of the files, most of the other files are missing.
This is becoming very annoying as I cannot see most of my files but can see them using the File Manager I am using on my phone.
Please help, is there a solution to this?
Is there a way I can mount the phone as a USB Mass Storage device?
Or maybe install a recovery without losing any of my data and then mount as USB mass storage using that recovery?
EDIT: I am running stock 5.1.1
I cannot upgrade to 6.0 until I get a backup of all my files.

Thank you.
But I would also like to know if it's possible to mount as USB Mass Storage.
Or is it completely impossible without losing my data?

Maybe via a custom recovery?
Or that is not possible either?

TWRP only has MTP. No idea on CWM or Philz since I don't use them. But I would assume they use MTP as well.
USB mass storage was removed from android over 3 years ago in Jelly Bean. So the odds of it being in this 2014 device and it's recoveries would be slim to none. MTP is better for the android OS, less chance of corrupt files and crashes.

Okay, thanks.
But CyanogenMod did support UMS mode in 5.1.1, but doesn't seem to be there in 6.0.
One final question.
Using MTP mode to transfer photos changes their last modified date, messing up the dates on all my photos.
Any way to fix that?

You can try to use the MTP mode of TWRP. I've always had luck using it when not all files where shown in the booted up system.
I don't know any way to fix this, but copying files, as the name implies, will always create a new file at the target location, which will then have the creation date from when it was copied, as it is a new file.
You can actually sort these files after their original creation date in Windows but you'd need an android gallery app, that is able to do the same.

2 suggestions
1. Uninstall your lg mobile drivers and reinstall latest driver, available in my mediafire folder if u don't have it.
Or
2. Try a stock cm kernel and try mounting again.
Wasnt you doing sokething with the volf.stab? Like changing internal as external card?

How does the system recognize the phone? Go to Device Manager (or something like that) and watch if there is a yellow mark upon a driver.
I had the same problem yesterday, I had to delete and reinstall drivers

[Q] Mounting USB mass storage in CM 10.2

I recently flashed my stock B&N Nook HD+ with CM 10.2. I am ultimately trying to use the Nook HD+ to transfer photos from a CF flash card, in a usb reader to a 500gb USB HD. I have the usb devices plugged into a powered hub. I have tried numerous apps to get these two devices to mount at the same time. I have spent most of my time with Chainfire stickmount.
Some things that I have seen:
When the devices are plugged in, they are recognized as uba1 and ubc1. This differs from the many references to sda1, etc. I've seen in web searches. If they are unplugged and re-inserted, these value change. That makes manually mounting them rather inconvenient. I have successfully manually mounted these devices.
When inserted, stickmount, prompts me, and says "searching", but never lists any mounts. If I make directories in /sdcard/usbstorage, those paths are displayed as active mounts instead of the "searching" display. But nothing is really in them. From this, I'm assuming that Stickmount is supposed to create these directories.
I attempted to make entries in fstab.ovation, similar to usb0. But after re-boot, the file reverts to the original condition. I guess that I don't understand the boot sequence well.
Has anyone had any success mounting several USB mass storage devices to the Nook HD+ and CM 10.2? If so, how?
Well, your almost there... just jump over to here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307585 and have fun with usb devices.

If you are referring to the USBSwitch app, I have tried that. It appears to only mount one USB mass storage device on /storage/usb0. But I already have to use it to turn on the OTG USB host function, anyway. I see the related entry in fstab.ovation that makes that work. As I mentioned before, I think adding a similar line in that file using, say usb1, would work. But as I mentioned, I can't get my edits of that file to stick.

You will never get an edit of that file to stick. That file is part of the boot initiation sequence that is permanently embedded in the boot files.

That's what I suspected. Is it possible to add a file to the init.d folder to perform mounting tasks? Or will that file be wiped on re-boot too?
Thanks for confirming my suspicions about fstab and the boot sequence.

Yes, it is possible to add mounting commands to the init.d folder and they stick (at least until you flash a new ROM). But for how to write those commands you are on your own.

The ub driver is obsolete and not present in recent Linux kernels. You should blacklist it and use usb-storage instead. If you can't blacklist ub, you can get the same effect by writing "usb-storage" to /sys/module/libusual/parameters/bias.

I am not familiar with the procedure to blacklist a driver. Any searches that I've done on this procedure reference folders/files that I don't see on my device. I also don't see a libusual directory on my device within /sys/module. I DO see a few USB related directories such as usb_storage, usb_wwan, usbcore, usbhid, and usbserial. Or do you mean that I need to create this path, /sys/module/libusual/parameters, and a file, "bias", with line containing "usb-storage"?

Boot into TWRP and connect to PC. See if you can mount MTP that way. Not a fix but could get your files transferred. Also may prove if more than a ROM issue.
I have the same issue? An it still is not coming up with TWRP? I tried the DEV M preview, it's good. But will not connect to PC as MTP?
Usb debugging off, selected mtp in dev options, reboot phone. works now?

I tried different ports but the phone will connect adb and ptp so I assumed it was the phone. When I connect using mtp, it makes the connection sound but nothing happens.

Why does my computer no longer recognize my phone after doing marshmallow update?

I have two Nexus 6s, one completely stock and one that I just upgraded to Marshmallow. I downloaded sdk and minimal adb and fastboot today in order to install marshmallow. I just plugged in my completely stock unmodified Nexus 6 into my computer to get my photos off my stock Nexus before I send it back to amazon and although the phone charges, nothing pops up for it being a storage device, I switched it between MTP and PTP on the phone but it does nothing, the phone does not show up, same goes for the Nexus 6 that has marshmallow on it, also switched that to MTP. My computer detects the phone because it allows me to eject it from usb but that is about it. Anything else I can try? trying to get pics off the old Nexus before I send it back.

btw adb sees the phone no problem
I have the same problem. Windows seems to recognize the phone, but it displays no content when I try to browse files.
Just did a clean flash of the factory image.
EDIT:
Ok, I'm an idiot... here's the solution:

nope that does nothing on my phone, both are set correctly at MTP or PTP, nothing works
BTW when I eject the USB it lists it as "android adb interface" I have a feeling that is why it is not showing up?
Mine just says MTP when I eject it. Did you try toggling USB debugging on and off?

I deleted the adb driver and that fixed the issue but that can't be the correct way because I think it would be pointless to have to install and delete the adb driver each time I want to use it? I knew it was more computer related than phone related but what is the correct way to make the phone work with a adb driver installed on the computer?

I honestly don't know. I've always had mixed results. Sometimes it would work automatically, sometimes I'd have to manually install the google drivers when the phone is in the bootloader.
Had the same "problem", to fix it and for windows to show the contents of the phone, you just need to pull down the top drawer and select mtp file transfer from the USB options. It is set for " charge only" as default. Try it out!

Exactly: it is not a problem, but just a new way to manage USB connections. You just have to pull down the status bar and choose one of the USB options for your Nexus 6
lol you guys aren't understanding, I did that and it did not fix the issue. The phone was still not recognized as a storage device. I also tried a Nexus 6 that was on 5.1.1 which does not have the charging only option in the drawer and it also was not recognized but once I deleted the adb driver from my computer, my computer saw both as storage devices when I put them into MTP mode
Go into developer settings
Make sure checked Debugging on
Then Scroll down
Look for MTP CHange it to something else in the settings
then back MTP Your computer will then see it it bug in 6.0

Retrieve data from broken Nexus 6

Screen was already broken, but accidentally dropped it again and totaled it last night.
So basically, the screen is DONE, and I thought I had USB debugging already enabled but it WILL NOT show up in cmd as an adb device, so it's possible that it was not enabled. How can I enable ADB and pull my files from internal storage? Please someone help, I have important pictures and videos.
Thanks in advance guys!
EDIT: I also am not sure what version I was running, is there any way to tell without the screen? Trying to play with Nexus toolkit and need to know my version
Have you got any custom recovery?? Like TWRP? Cos they usually have mtp enabled by default.

The device should show up in ADB whether USB debugging is enabled or not. This sounds more like a driver issue than anything else. Have you tried installing the Android SDK tools and installing the drivers from the SDK manager?
