For ppl who worry about battery life should watch this video. It might help u =)
It just keep getting better
Enjoy

My first day was no where near that bad. I got about 18 hours with regular usage and that's a lot for considering I use my phone all day for work. I love my nexus 4!

That actually goes for all android phones, it keeps getting better cause you build a cache.
Sent from my 3rd Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

I had significantly better battery life than him even before the last android update. I also don't put ****ty apps like HD widgets and facebook that like to either wake up the GPS or draw stupid amounts of power for no reason.

Some people shouldn't make videos.
Just saying.

Should i get this phone? Advice pls!

Hi all. Im due an upgrade i summer. Im looking At this phone or the desire s. But is this phone buggy? Is the dua core really something special? Reviews on the 2x arent too good atm, the phone has many negative points abt it! It was like that with my tg01. I got it because it was the worlds first 1ghz phone. (just like this is the worlds first dual core) my tg01 has soo mamy bugs with it and it was rushed out. Is the 2x like this? I hear it is very buggy. I dont want to get another phone like my tg01 where i rely on custom roms for the phone to be usable.
So long story short, is this phone good? Is dual core something special? Or is speed more or less the same as single cores? Some ppl say that dual core is not needed with android.. Is this true?
Sorry for the quick messy typing (not on pc) and looking for some quick answers!
Cheers

bump :')
anyone?
Its GPU is a bit ahead of the Samsung's... The CPU is far ahead. In Smartbench 2011 I score 4142CPU and 2953GPU and no samsung devices are even on the charts (with 1.4ghz OC but still stock is a lot better, and I would recommend installing a custom rom...). The call quality can be quite bad until you flash the baseband but after that it should be great. I have nothing bad to say about this phone, and when 2.4 comes out it will only get better (2.4 is rumored to come with real dual-core support)
Even though mine's been working quite well for past 2 weeks as my daily phone, there are also people who are quite fed up with theirs.
I hadn't read xda's user reviews prior to getting mine, but if I were to get another 2x now, I would wait for LG to provide a firmware update that significantly reduces the lock-up/reboot/battery drain issues. It's just to be perfectly sure that I will get one as stable (or more so) than my existing 2x.
I believe the battery drain issue can be fixed manually. just need a through check on whats running and how
thank you all for replies!
(xilw3r sorry i have run out if thanks!)
i
so most issues will be fixed with updates? but does the phone need to use a custom rom to be usable? is lg's ui good?
and is dualcore really much of a difference? do you notice a giant speed difference betweeen other android phones, or is it overhyped?
is battery life good on this? how long heavy use can it last under wifi?
im really stuck considering this and the
desire s
LG ui is laggy and a personal choice, i use lancher pro plus. heavy use and wifi battery lasts a few hours.
Battery doesnt last a day with low usage for me. 5-10% per hour on standby. With 3g on and mail twitter etc sync every 60 minutes. my old hero lasts longer with heavier use
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA Premium App
Can't comment much on the performance or UI as I moved over from Symbian. Though, it's much smoother in its user interaction than my son's LG Optimus One, but that's single core, 600mhz.
On days that I don't play much with it and actually use it like a typical work phone, the battery remains above 50% by 6pm. I think usually about 1 to 1.5 hour talk, hourly email auto-checks, less than half-hour of browsing and less than 20 SMSes. I am not a heavy user: I don't IM at all, nor GPS or game much. Just typical work-type usage.
Note: I switch off wifi when I am out of the house and rely on 3G for data connection. I find that keeps the battery lasting longer.

then you have some application/service/process running roque
Mine easily last 10 hours in standby with only 1% battery use (wifi and 3g and autosync enabled)
if you have 5-10% drain per hour on standby, you have some application/service/process not going to sleep as it should, using cpu and power, and preventing your phone from entering standby mode.
Thats not a problem of the phone - but a software issue that you as user need to investigate and solve
with low usage I easily get 2 days running - with moderate use 1½ - and with heavy use 1 full day.
No strange processes running here, spent a few days of testing with different roms aswell drain still exists

thanks fir responses! i was gonna say 5-10 drainage in an hr is bad! is the a common problem? i heard abt these battey issues!
Battery usage:
16h after power was unplugged, I still have around 40-45% of battery. Low usage (WiFi/3G on, a few calls, gTalk, but no email sync activated).
ROM: 10b

I relly want this phone but im not sure about it anymore.. i read so many many many big bugs about it, and seems that almost EVERYONE is having them..
optimus one was a great phone with dew bugs, why cant they make the same quality on a HIGHER END handset lol :S ?
If you look through the forums of any phone, there will be a lot of people talking about how they have some sort of problem.
Nexus S
yea but o2x is A LOT, mean u have 60 page thead about reboot issues.... that doesnt look too promising ..
You can always return it if you have too many problems
Nexus S
The stores have em already, G-slate and G2x. Played with both today, I know the manager in store but before somebody make a dumb comment pertaining to that, aint nuttin top secret and no special info was bestowed on me because of who I know. The stores just have them stocked already. The slate is nice though, good build, nice size and weight, kinda reminded me of the ipad but lighter. Honeycomb makes our phones look like gameboy colors.

But the G2x was also better than my expectations! By far blows most of the others out of water.

By the summer? This phone will be old news then.

Not a bad device, but...

This is a good device. I'm coming from iOS, so Android is new for me but the Nexus 7 is awesome. I only waited this long because pre-ICS I was afraid of fragmentation and went to the 'more stable' iPad 2. Now, I kind of regret that!
I have noticed a couple of things that trouble me, but it could just be me. Today I was running on the battery for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. I had played Dark Meadow, Duke Nukem 3D, Hanging with Friends, and setting up widgets on my home screen (I still haven't gotten used to what widgets on what home screen)..but it was already at 75% discharging (the wording seems odd but basically 25% of the battery already been used). I have the screen brightness down; and I do stream TWiT.tv through an app..and I get about 3-5 hours of battery life doing that. Is that normal?
BUT playing audio podcasts with screen locked, wifi off when it sleeps, etc i get 13 hours (yes, last night it clocked in at 13 hours 1 minute before battery died.)
I'm wondering this is normal. I do love the device though; so it may just be me being odd and worrying too much as i am new to Android
Overall, after selling my iPad 2, I'd give the Nexus 7 a 9/10. There needs to be more games I love (like hero academy, um..there were a couple I really loved on iOS that I loved but can't remember the names at all!) and at first I was having a hard time getting epub and pdf books onto the device, even using FBreader but I converted them to mobi and that's not a problem anymore.
Seriously, I love the device despite what Ithe issues I had--and they are my issues, not Google.
Some of those games you installed probably have some background service for ads or something, think of open feint and the like. Those services if not optimized for JB will drain your battery.
Auto brightness fr me and my battery is avg 8 hours with gaming, reading, Skype/googketalk video chatting.
Try to see if the games you have also have tegra versions usually marked by a THD in he title, they will wok better on this device.

I deleted most of the games if I don't like them, but I do make sure that they're THD 99.99% of the time. I also turned down my screen brightness. To give an idea. I just turned on F-Con's TWiT.tv app, with the brightness down..and it's at 68% discharging (I really wish they would have said 68% left or something) and it's been running for an 1 hour 45 minutes on the battery.
I'm really starting to think, and I posted this on G+, that I can't do ANYTHING with my device unless it's audio only and it's a little frustrating, but like I said, it's also probably just me being an idiot somewhere somehow. I really don't know what else to do to keep it from draining so fast (at least it feels fast) unless I keep it plugged into the charger when I'm streaming video. I know when I play games I like to go relax and lay down so I'm comfortable and I only stream video when I'm at my desk..so maybe just keeping it plugged in when doing that would be the best option.
It say "discharging" because that's exactly what it's doing. When plugged in, it says "charging".

Yes, thank you. Just not used to that term being used. Remember, I did come from iOS they don't use it, at least from what I remember and saw, in their settings.

Good point! I've tried not to charge it unless it's going dead.
I think my main problems
-I stream twit.tv while on battery (maybe I should plug it in?)
-I've watched video podcasts while on battery (Maybe I should plug it in or switch to audio?)
-I have the brightness turned up (I've tried turning it down but it gets too dark for my bad eye sight)
I mean the list of stuff I do is:
-Play casual games
-Try more 'intense' games like dead trigger, duke nukem 3d
-send an email/text message via the voice typing
-Use Google Now/Voice Activities
-tweet, facebook, g+
-Use Google Drive or Evernote because I'm a writer.
-watch twit.tv
The most intense thing I do are the games and twit.tv. But I can still get 6-7 hours even doing those two things. So the battery isn't horrible, it's just me being hypersensitive I'd imagine.

Thank you! I would never bash it because it's not iOS. They were, at one point, two different beasts. Now, they're starting to become..well not the same as they are very different but they are starting to do more of the same. Personally, I just got tired of that walled garden of Apple. With the nexus 7, I've already downloaded stuff from Amazon's app store, the play store, etc. the only thing I haven't done is gone to a developer directly and installed something.
Overall, I love the nexus 7. it's the perfect size for reading a book and for playing many games. Google Now is nice because I can check the Pirates or Steelers score or the score of their rivals.
I really do love this.
Got my N7 last night. Full charge overnight. Today I was on it constantly. I had almost 9 hours with almost 6 hours screen on time. This was playing FPse and xda and a few other games.
Facebook SUCKS on android. Their app has background crap that chews through the battery. Delete that crap and either use a Widget (Android Pro Widgets) or a 3rd party app or just use the browser. Not only will these alternatives work better, you'll also see tons of extra battery life.

I will actually do that. I trust guys like you since you have more experience with Android than I do.
I actually got, so far, doing everything that I would even with the streaming of the TWiT Network..I got 9 hours 48 minutes 18 seconds. Almost 10 hours doing what I normally do (play games, emails, txt, streaming video, etc) So I think the battery's starting to normalize to what I do (is that even possible? lol!)
Still 6+ hours doing all of that stuff, to me, is pretty dang good. I used to get about 4-5 hours on my iPad 2 doing all of that stuff.
I got 5h20min screen time with 2 days usages

Gaming drains the battery a good bit, it's as simple as that.
I've had no problem with the battery life, it isn't super long but it's more than sufficient... (I have the brightness jacked way up.)
Under Settings -> Accounts and Sync, be sure to disable Instant Upload. (Along with anything else that you don't need, but I've found Instant Upload to be a major battery culprit.)
If you root, you can get BetterBatteryStats for a more thorough analysis.

Except I'm not gaming 24/7, I'll play for 5 minutes, maybe 10 (only sometimes longer)
Like I said I'm checking email, playing say Hanging with Friends, Tiny Tower, etc. then sending a text message, or a tweet or a facebook update, or a google plus update then I'm watching a twt.tv video or the livestream when a show is on.
It can't be just the gaming. and like I said, it could just be me. Today, for example, even though I streamed twit.tv, played a couple of games and all the rest..I still got 10 hours.
I've turned off wifi when alseep, as an example. I turned off instant upload. stuff like that. I still average abotu 10 hours a day, it was just that one day I got about 5-6 hours. I'll give it a try Monday or Tuesday again. I'll do nothing but stream off of the app I have for TWiT and see if I can reproduce it but it looks like 10 hours is about average for me.
As I said, and I know I'm repeating myself, it could just be me being hypersensitive about a new device and a new OS.

I may be the only one to actually like the Facebook widget... I never actually open the app, but it is fun tabbing through
all my friend's statuses on the widget. My battery life seems fine...
Aside: One little feature I love is use Google Now to verbally "Set alarm to 25 minutes". That is how I know when my meal is ready...

Performance and Battery in JB.

I was wondering. I looked everywhere and cannot find exact confirmation or Review. The 4.1.2 update is coming soon for the Optimus 4X and I read on 2-3 blogs that it'll apparently improve battery life. Is that true? Has anyone tried that themselves? From what I observe on my 4X that there are a couple of apps running in the system sucking up the battery. Will the future update fix this to extend its life? Sorry if this question was asked before and/or I've made a double post.

One day+?! Holy-- yeah that's surely an improvement to what I'm experiencing now. Is the phone running smoother as these blogs say? Any crashes/freezes or its a perfect charm. I'd just want to know what to expect...
Also, I've noticed that my phone tends to warm up from... almost everything. Is it still happening?
Edit: Sorry about this post... I rushed on asking this question without realizing that there's a Q&A section.. is there anyway to move the post? If not then I'll delete it.

Depends on what you think is important. My phone is my "phone". I expect it to be as such. I can't imagine Web browsing for 3+ hours on my device. My Dell mini is better suited for that task and has better then 3+ hrs battery life. But maybe if your a gamer or a Facebook addict or Web browser cowboy, you find like people that use their device in the same manner as yourself and then compare notes.
Because of my job I'm often on the go and don't have the opportunity to recharge my device at leisure. It's nice to know it can be used as a phone all day and I'll still be able to call my wife at the end of that day. There if definitely improved battery in 20x after a few services are disabled and be r uninstalled. Prior to leaked JB my device required recharge after i got home. This is how I use my device and the condition under what I use it. These are my results but your milage may vary.
Yes the interface experience for me feels silky smooth. No lag, and no crashes or FCs. Best device I've owned to date.

its not specificly the browsing he did that makes the post usefull unlike some people posting battery charts its the fact that he posts screen on time rather then the chart.
the full charts are useless as you cannot see how often the phone was actualy used.
if i link you 2 charts 1 with slow battery drain in standby and no apps used at all (no screen on time) lasting 2 days exactly and 1 with near no battery in standby and 4 hours app use.
they both look the same if you post a battery chart but only the second one shows the potential of the battery life.
the first just shows the phone needed to be charged after 2 days the second showed the phone is capable of lasting 2 days with near no idle battery drain and gives a verry descent 4 hours screen on time.
a phone that is configured correctly and had good 3g/wifi signal and has 3g/wifi managed correctly, has no apps with adds and no apps that drain battery wil berely use any juice in standby leaving almost all the juice for screen on time.
a badlymanaged phone might drain up to 10% an hour because of adds and poort wifi/3g management/signal.
so in a perfect world (which we should aim for) only screen on/inapp time is important as there should be no other power hoggers.

Andoird Lollipop Preview build LPX13D Battery Life Thread

I've been using it for a little over a day now and the batter life has not wowed me. I've seen better battery life on KitKat. That being said, this is not a final version, and a lot of the Google Services based apps aren't updated yet.
Please share your results of battery life time, and Screen On Time so the community can get a consensus of battery life running this new Developer Preview.
I have achieved just over 4 hours of SOT after my first days use.
Just my thoughts exactly.

Hammerhead | L Developer Preview Final
Probably shouldn't whine around since it's a developer's preview but I agree with the above posts.. Battery life has been quite pathetic for me as well. Can't make it through a day on a single charge now.
Really missing ElementalX!
Back on kk due to heavy battery drain .. On first preview battery life was awesome .. Don't know what's wrong in the new preview . i hope the final build will be better
I highly doubt the final version will be any better. Less then a month away for final release. It takes a long time to find all those issues etc. It's going to be a work in progress for months.
The final version may be a bit better but I can't imagine 3 weeks is going to make a huge difference.
Absolutely fine for me, same as KitKat.

Apparently not... People who have wiped everything and installed only gmail/tapatalk are also experiencing huge drains even after a few battery cycles.
In my case, the phone sleeps just fine and goes to deep sleep without any wakelocks. However, when I start using it, battery drops down every few minutes and it doesn't even last a day. The overall drain is too much. May be few of my most used apps aren't fully compatible with Lollipop and hence the drain...

I believe the final version is ages ahead of this preview. IMHO they probably had to set up a more or less stable build for developers to test the final API, It doesn't mean the final version got much more changes.
They probably got the tech stuff done and released it for developers without caring of other changes, just technical to make sure apps would work...
Battery for me is being horrible too, got many batdrains but I think It will be improved on the final version.
At 65% battery now. Uptime 16 hours SoT 1 hour 44 min.
Lost 2% battery in 10 hours sleep this night while it was on wifi.
By the way this is the first battery cycle ever on this phone. Bought it yesterday, went home and flashed Lollipop right away then fully charged and started using it. So the usage has some app downloads etc.
The final version for Nexus 5 will not be in the 3/11.
Google will only update at that day the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, Nexus 9. (hardware without LTE).
Nexus 5 will be update to Android 5.0 later of November. (like Nexus 6)
I have this preview version and I see that the gpu driver need some polish.
Personally I get the same battery life on Lollipop than on Kitkat. Maybe little better especially when screen off. I had the "miscellaneous bug" and my battery suffered a lot but I removed many apps (G+ ?) and the battery consumption of the "miscellaneous" things drops to only few percents.
part of the battery life drain is due to the much more aggressive on-demand settings

Same here.. mostly the same battery life..
Overnight drain is reduced - the graph is pretty much horizontal during that time. Once you start using it though it doesn't seem any different.
Only thing I have installed currently is the google apps (chrome, G+, gmail, maps).
Please use the current battery life thread here

Sot (for who has bad one)

Hi guys
I'm not discovering the fire but I want to make a little contribution for those who has bad sot (I was really annoying for me because I can understand the upsets users ones), this was my discoveries:
The first one and most important:
It seems that the phone is programmed for a certain time of use, I mean it has a maximum time for sot: 6 - 9 hrs so you have to use that time to spend it on screen time because the phone also uses the battery for other stuffs. So if you pretend to get 6 hours or more in more than 1 day you will become mad and taking the phone and throwing it throw the window.
The second one:
Continuing with the last point doesn't matter if you try to save battery reducing resolution or stuffs like that. I use every day performance mode at max resolution and sound quality. The important thing is manage very well the brightness so disable the 10%extra from performance mode. Actually I could reach 6 hours at 1% with a intensive use with wify, data, gps and stuff like that.
The third one:
It is unuseful try to disable things and apps from the phone, they are not important on battery usage except for brightness and (at least for me) AOD. This one drains my battery and I really don't know what to do with this so it is disabled for me.
And the fourth and last one:
It seems that the battery needs a intensive usage in order to get it max potential. Some days ago I use the phone heavily charging it with the dex dock and using the interface and I noticed before that the battery expand it life.
Well, I'm testing if a dark theme is useful or not in order to get better sot but mean while I'm pretty happy with the battery life (40 days of usage); at beginning was very upset with this.
Hope to be useful for anyone.
Cheers and my best regards and thankfulness for the help of the community.
Thanks man
What's this 10% extra thing you are referring to?
My wife's default Note 8 gets approximately 5.5 hours SOT mine 6.5 to 8.5 SOT. She uses Facebook and the trash associated with it l and light themes. I don't,.also location on mine is gps only.

I advised her, but she doesn't care about getting more sot. That's all she uses the phone for I think, Facebook and Candy crush. Both of which are rubbish.
